    I watched it bearing in mind that it was the first of four parts and I thought that the pacing was fine and in fact at times it felt a little rushed. At 3 hours I never got fidgety or bored. Always a good sign. Loved the cinematography too and some great Western characters. Overall it gets a solid 4 out of 5. Already looking forward to the next one.

      I agree, I don't quite understand the bashing this movie took. I'm with you in being excited for the rest of the movies in the series too.
      Sometimes (a lot of times) critics opinions don't make much sense to me. If I took critic's opinions as gospel, I'd certainly miss out on a lot of great movies (especially comedies) that have impacted what I enjoy watching.

    I love how the critics are dumb as a bell. It's clear that it's the first film of four, yet they treat it as a standalone. As a standalone, it doesn't work, so if the sequels are scrapped, it's gonna be one of the worst films in history. However, it builds sympathy for the characters and plot, making me want to see more. If Kev delivers the whole package in style, it will go down as the pinnacle of western genre.

      I'm with you, it's such a shame it took such a big hit critically.. because of that, the people who loved it have to wait longer.
      To hell with critics, they're such pompous idiots. It's so easy to dump on a movie, and then back track later. If they come out saying they love it, and then everyone hates it, then it's harder to take back that opinion. Critics shouldn't have the weight they do when it comes to a movie's success. Ultimately, the fans suffer due to a few self absorbed critics.

    To comment on Horizon, My husband and I watched it and it brings out parts of the West that are spot on natural, with the guy in the beginning reading the book about taking the land back and edge of your seat one minute w emotion the next....It was all about Cinema in your own home. Very well done I don't care what the critics thought. They are wrong. I can't wait to see part 2 and after.

    Horizon Saga 1 is one of the best movies of the year. People complain about remakes, Costner gives us something very original. The scenery, narrative, and music are a perfect blend of the westerns of old. The movie movies quickly and the end came too soon for me. I am praying Sage 2 has a cinema release as it is the BEST way to see the film. The length is exactly the same as Oppenheimer, but no one complained about that film timing. It is a must see and very student should watch the film.

    I actually intentionally paid the most money I could to this , saw it in theaters and paid for 3 tickets and bought it on prime video for the 25$ .
    My reason is because I want more westerners and Americana put out in theaters. I can’t stand the superhero movies and the woke BS so something like this , that I can actually relate to is a breath of fresh air. The last movie I saw in theaters was the remake of Death wish
    ( dumpster fire 🔥) and the MEG , ( nowhere near as good as the novels)
    So I rarely go to the theatre these days but I’d see all these in theaters if they were to release them that way . I really don’t care how they put them out , I just want them to finish them and get them out for us all.
    Kevin is going somewhere good with this , open range and dances with wolves are masterpieces and Horizon will be too if it gets it’s chance .

What was with the scene near the beginning (right before we cut to 1863 that showed the single Native American attacked by the band of Native American warriors on horseback? Did Desmarais see it happen and what does it have to do with the story being told?

      Not revolvers, because of Smith&Wesson's control over the "bored through cylinder" patent only rifles and single shot or Derringer type pistols used cartridges until the patent expired in 1869, the Smith&Wesson Model 1 which was the only revolver manufactured while the patent was in effect was only chambered in .22 Short their Model 2 chambered in .38 S&W didn't even come out until 1877.
      There was a few exceptions where Smith&Wesson signed contracts with companies allowing them to convert pistols but that wasn't until 1868 just a few months before the patent expired in 1869, so there were very few.
      After the patent expired conversions started happening in small numbers at first building up year after year until 1871 when a Colt employee was awarded a patent on a way of converting revolvers that really took off after that, even 2 year's later when the 1873 Colt SAA came out they converted far more revolvers than they sold new 1873's because a conversion was cheaper than a new 1873, of course that only lasted so long because there was only so many cap and ball revolvers to convert but there was enough that they remained popular throughout the entire period of what's considered the Old West, and more popular than the 1873 actually because of price.
      But ultimately conversion revolvers weren't really around until when newly manufactured cartridge revolvers were being produced after the Smith&Wesson patent expired, so no, you wouldn't have seen them in the 1850's and 1860's.

    • @mallanac
      @mallanac หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Metaldogg Yes, but only in smaller calibers in USA. Bigger calibers like .44 and .45 used the conversions in the film were not made before 1870s. The .44 Henry cartridge was made from 1860 but was not used in revolvers before 1870s.

    • @mallanac
      @mallanac หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@b.a.n20O3 I would really like to know which conversions from the 50s you are refering to. The colt Kevin Costner has is a Colt Richard conversion, transition version, i.e. from 1871-1872 using a .44 cartridge which did not exist before the Civil War. Somewhere in the film there is a Colt Walker conversion, which "could" have been converted in the period where the film is set except that there would be no .45 cartridges invented for it.
