While the 90's series they're basically just an underground freedom fighting outlaws who fight crime and the government and in the films they're basically an academy whose staff members occasionally go out to fight anti-mutant organizations.
yes! they did a great job of foreshadowing there. When her eyes begin to glow linked with Cerebro, that is when she has used so much power that the Phoenix force begins to emerge. I read an article about it from the writers back then. They intended a Phoenix saga but the show ended so in the final scene they show her turn into the dark Phoenix and then the energy bird and fly away. Would have loved another season. The next season was going to be the Age of Apocolypse with Scott as his right hand man (shown in the future vision also)
From whatr I recall, X-Men "purists" were actually a problem, since they took issue with everyone being younger and in high school in this version (despite, yknow, "mutant school" being literally the main X-Men concept) dismissing it as just "X-Men for kids". Even though this show had the best interpretations ever for Kitty, Scott, Wanda etc. Got Jane, Professor, Mystique, Logan etc. perfectly too.
whade62000 that actually bugged me about the original, it was called a “school” but everyone save Jubilee was already an adult. This one not only were there other students but people TEACHING them!
@LordDeraj I could never buy Jubilee as an adult either because they always drew her as a grown-ass supermodel xD I thought the others were just messing with her because of her babyface when she'd get angry about being treated as a child.
What's wild is that Parallels the second X men movie where she like had to sacrifice herself to stop the damn meanwhile here she does it fine on her own LMFAO
@@funkycrawler619I think you all forgetting the fact here Jean in the movies can do all of that easily but in that time she knew she is in fact losing control . From beginning of the movie even before the attack to the mansion Jean shown something is wrong with her and she knew that too. She knew if she lost control it will be over for everyone in the team and all the civilians. So she deliberately choose to sacrifice herself. She stop to Kurt from teleporting her , she used telepathy with professor X , she stop the dam , she control the ship , she lifted the ship . And when she finally sure her friends are safe (she already have red eyes and she is literally losing all the control to her evil side she deliberately choose to let go so her evil side doesn’t destroy everything around her .(professor X literally created another persona inside Jean's mind in order to control her "so she doesn’t be a danger to herself and people around her " but it was a very wrong move because once that persona wake up it created endless destruction. And Jean knew this , professor knew this too . In the movies when wolverine time travels and old professor talks to younger one he advice not to Cage the monster in her and create her restless and much more destructive persona . And the young professor take that advice and that future turn out good . Until this time professor X loses control and kills every mutant (because he is old he has a seizure everyone died including wolverine but wolverine has healing factor so professor and wolverine we're the only mutants survived . And couple of lucky ones) in the end no happy ending for Jean...
The thing I love about Evolution is that in this version, Jean is this badass without ever getting Phoenix!! She was even able to go toe-to-toe with Professor X when he was Apocalypse's Horseman of Death!!! In a way, I'm kinda glad the new season WAS cut, that way we can keep Jean the way she is!!
90's Jean would have been destroyed by Evolution Jean. They should have really used this version of her in the movies. She's not incredibly powerful but she gets shit done and gets it done well. Both her 90's and her movie version nearly pass out or have to call on the Phoenix persona in order to pull off half of this Jean's feats
I've always think that scene is for movie version. Love this Jeangrey in her all aspects. Utilizing each and every things she can do with being a telekinetic and a telepath not like the original series who has been a very dumb and weak as hell.
Or pull a Green Lantern and create a PK ramp to go over the other train, or off to the side of it, that would have given her more time to slow it down.
To be honest, I prefer Xmen Evolution over the 90’s Xmen because they actually made Jean Grey useful and they didn’t have that weird love triangle with Jean, Scott, and Logan. I only liked Rogue and Gambit better in the 90’s Xmen.
I liked it especially as a fan of Rogue/Gambit in the original cartoon, I liked how they made the characters at least still have good chemistry with one another to give like fans of the original pairing something to want even if it wasn't romantic. @@MrDibara
Evolution had a love triangle with Jean, Scott, and Rogue instead, but it was much less awkward. Rogue just had a crush on Scott, and it was actually endearing instead of creepy like Logan's possessive feelings for Jean.
Montero Prince it isn’t marvel’s fault it’s Disney for trying to pump out the under produced bad shows. Look at Iron Man Armored Adventures and the two x men show Nicktoons did Marvel right they should’ve kept making shows
Jean’s “phoenix power” was originally simply Jean’s own natural mutation evolving far too rapidly for her to control, and her psychic powers increasing beyond her capacity to regulate. The only reason it was later retconned that the Phoenix was a separate entity that duplicated Jean while keeping her in suspended animation was because the writers wanted to bring Jean back to life after she died in the Dark Phoenix conclusion, and not forget that she previously killed an entire planet of people. It was a way to not hold her responsible for her genocide and evil actions and return her to the X-Men roster.
As a kid watching X Men Evolution, I was always so enamored with Jean’s character, and her powers were just so cool to me. I’ll never forget the scene with the train exploding, it was very thrilling for me to see her hold the explosion from reaching the buildings!
Evolution has my favorite version of Jean. She has a fully developed personality and is an absolute unit! The way she buried Mystique 6 feet under gets me every time.
6:44 You see the psychic shield suddenly expand and morph into the Phoenix itself. It’s just green instead of red. This would lead into season 5, which Jean would’ve actually evolved into Phoenix as her mutation grew too powerful for her to be able to control (like the original intention in the comics - no alien Phoenix force) - sadly the show was cancelled here.
Which I think is a better interpretaiton that the more powerful she got on her won the stronger the Phoenix got. Honestly better take on the Phoenix arc imo @@arc7375
Yeah, I always wondered, *what the hell was up with THAT?!* In the 90's _comics,_ Jean was even stronger and more competent than Evolution Jean! _Why_ did they do her so dirty on the 90's cartoon?!
Jean was BADASS in this ! you did miss some scenes of her kicking ass though but cool video that outclasses the stupid Jean from the old cartoon ! Here they did her justice she was smart, strong and beautiful
yah i remember when she took 3 of the Egyptian statues out so quick after she regained consciousness while all it took all the other X-Men so much effort to beat one 😂
In the 90s Jean was able to lift the Blackbird telekinetically. However, this incarnation features Jean lifting, repelling, and supporting equal to greather weight than the Blackbird- like the dam and the force of the explosion that Avalanche subsided into the earth - and more often than the 90s version. The only time Jean displayed immense power in the 90s was when she became the Phoenix. In X-Men Evolution, Jean even used her power subvertively as she manipulated multiple minds at once, demonstrated offensive manipulation of her Pathic and Kinetic powers in combat, and had a night on the town with fellow female X-Men in Season 2, Episode: "Walk on the Wild Side". X-Men Evolution's Jean was QUITE useful... Great video!
HAHAHAHAHAHAH Jean could BARELY even do that. Her TK was written so inconsistently: at one point she's able to hold up a fallen building (for 10s) but she can only (albeit badly) slow down the Blackbird from falling from a building ledge, and even then Rogue was there to help her (both times) and she was mentally fatigued that Bishop had to catch her. Even at the last season, she couldn't keep herself, Scott, and Wolverine afloat when they were falling. She can use her TK to float at times, but then forgets other times: moreso the latter! Evo Jean was the best representation of her powers and her growth into those powers.
90s Jean would straight up start moaning and fainting from anything that she deemed too heavy. This Jean seems fine with heavy things, and doesn't need iron supplements.
@3:23 I remember this episode. That was one of my favorite moments of the show, Jean coming to save her man, and the music that played when she showed up. You KNEW Mystique was in TROUBLE! haha!
Comics Jean was always OP - world's most gifted telekinetic AND she's got half of Professor X's powers. There's a reason the phoenix force chose her. (And I think Jean's story is about being someone perfect really. She's not only gifted with beauty, smarts and powers - she's deserving of them too - humble, kind to others (helper to younger students,), good values (gives everyone a chance, she picks hard-working boy scout Scott over cooler bad boys too). But even she has her problems, struggles managing the large responsibilities she accepts to take on, evil powers that seek to control her, being just as vulnerable and mortal as everyone (more so) on missions. Tbh the Phoenix Force is the perfect locical way to advance her character too - how do you challenge someone who's so powerful and perfect? Push that power to a level where she has to worry about being so powerful she might destroy anything just by touching it, so perfect that she involuntarily starts crushing lesser things in her path.
In X-men: Evolution they were supposed to be like 17-18 and jean did as much as possible not to mention how powerful she was at such a young age. Jean was super powerful without phoenix, and the other shows tried to downplay her power to make phoenix look like the peak of her powers. She did almost all the work the professor did and don't forget when we found out professor had a son and he was like mega-powerful yea she tried her best to fight back knowing he was stronger. In conclusion x-men: evolution was the best animated x-men tv marvel made :)
I’m still salty all these years later that evolution was canceled before there was a proper legion (the son you mentioned) arc ever properly happened, instead leaving with a cliffhanger episode regarding him.
I like the fact this series took time to show the mechanics of their powers without limiting their actions. You could tell from the animation just how much work Jean has to do, but you know she can do it
X-Men: Evolution has the best portrayal of these characters - why is it so hard for the movies and other animated shows to get it right? Jean’s powers were so useful! Rogue could do pretty cool stuff with her powers without just standing there or having Ms Marvel’s powers, Scott was a great team leader and Kitty and Kurt were likeable fun characters
Poor Jean couldn't walk across the sitting room without tripping over a small gust blowing in from under a crack in the front door. I love this Jean so much better.
I'm so glad this show was my introduction to the X-Men as a kid and because of that characters like her : susan storm, scarlet witch and gwen Tennyson have always been my favorites
Jean in 90’s: “Storm, could you get me a glass of water” Jean from Evo.: “I held a whole dam up with the water overflowing girl are you even trying 🤦🏽♂️”
Oh I know the feeling. I thought Legion was so cool, killer design and great power, would've been nice to see more of him. I'm guessing that maybe had the show continued, he would've made another appearance.
Man, I love the '90s series, but it really did all of the female characters dirty. Every episode had a moment where one of them fainted and got saved by one of their male teammates. I know X-Men Evolution is very 2000s, and it took a lot of liberties, but it did a much better job of illustrating how formidable the X-Men were.
You mean like what she did all the time? She single-handedly saved the X-Men from being buried underwater and atomized Apocalypse. I don't know why some people are in denial about all the good things presented in the movies, but it's pretty annoying.
Jean : * Can't hold an explosion that's growing larger * Me : Understandable. Jean : * Unable to hold a man in her Telekinesis for more than 5 seconds * Me : Bruh

Like the fact that the X-Men are more than just mutant freedom fighters, they're a family. While the 90's series they're basically just an underground freedom fighting outlaws who fight crime and the government and in the films they're basically an academy whose staff members occasionally go out to fight anti-mutant organizations.
jeans telepathic sheild at 6:45 looks like the Phoenix emerging
Spider Life I don't wanna be a spoiler but she dies in this series on the future flashback with professor X
how do u know
It is a hint for the Phoenix. but she isn't dying in the flashback.
It is....... her eye also glowing
yes! they did a great job of foreshadowing there. The next season was going to be the Age of Apocolypse with Scott as his right hand man (shown in the future vision also)
*busts open a gate she could have easily flown over*
You know...sometimes it's about sending a message.
I loved this show as a kid
I never forgot that train scene, that was so epic
Axel what about when she kicked ass by throwing mystique like a rag doll? Wasn't that awesome.
I have that in my channel
So sad they didn't get to the season 5 with Phoenix :(
I. Th. It was popular enough.
It was more likely that it didn't sell enough merch (toys, etc).
That explosion scene with the train is what I've always wanted from jean
reminds me of Wanda from the MCU
@@idontcaresirwanda couldn't control a grenade explosion tho 😂
Jean Grey singlehandedly controlled a much larger scale explosion 💥
she turned the war helicopter blades into a heart. queen 👑
2:56 If 90’s X-Men Jean tried that she would have quite literally had a stroke
90's Jean: *faints from opening a window
This Jean: Flys effortlessly
i will forever be grateful i grew up with THIS version of jean her telekinesis sound is so pleasing & the animation STILL holds up imo 🙏🏼
3:58 I simply love how they portray Jean's power in Evolution and the sound effects of it too hehehe
The ripple in the air of her tk and any of the telepaths.
Yeah that’s true in a way
Imagine this jean with Phoenix. She’d be unbeatable
And the masterpiece that gave Jean Grey justice. Best part? She was powerful without the Phoenix Force!
This is probably the only version of Jean Grey that I actually like, that Train scene is so cool, imagine if it were remade in movies with great cgi
I've always think that scene is for movie version. Love this Jeangrey in her all aspects. Utilizing each and every things she can do with being a telekinetic and a telepath not like the original series who has been a very dumb and weak as hell.
She could have speeded up the train passing through in combo with kitty
Michael Spence or taken off the wheels or just lifted it it didn't seem that large
Or pull a Green Lantern and create a PK ramp to go over the other train, or off to the side of it, that would have given her more time to slow it down.
Michael Spence or she could have just lifted the train engine
she just slowed it down and made it longer to phase 🤣💀 still one of my
favourite characters though
Michael Spence this was alpha level Jean Grey, when she had blocks on her mind. But doing that would make the scene look soo easy.
To be honest, I prefer Xmen Evolution over the 90’s Xmen because they actually made Jean Grey useful and they didn’t have that weird love triangle with Jean, Scott, and Logan. I only liked Rogue and Gambit better in the 90’s Xmen.
Rogue in this show was still pretty cool, though
Yeah rogue and gambit I liked their dynamic in the older one. Though I appreciate they actually didn’t sideline gambit in this one .
@@flowerbloom5782 That little mini-arc with Gambit and the whole "rescue his father" may have been brief, but it was cool nonetheless. 😊
Ah, back when marvel made good tv shows
Montero Prince Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are good tv shows
He probably meant animated TV shows.
Montero Prince it isn’t marvel’s fault it’s Disney for trying to pump out the under produced bad shows. Look at Iron Man Armored Adventures and the two x men show Nicktoons did Marvel right they should’ve kept making shows
Man have times changed.
This show was good but it wasnt Marvels peak. Spectacular Spiderman and Avengers:EMH were. But yh their recent stuff isnt as good.
X-Men: Evolution not only created a perfect Wolverine but also a useful and less annoying Jean Grey
And possibly the best Cyclops!
@@ShadowSonic2 way better than the one in Wolverine and the X-Men
This is definitely the best incarnation of Jean.
Im still obsessed with Jean’s psionic battle against Horseman Xavier. Top ten xmen battles of all time.
At 3:46 It would've real boss if Jean had said "You got that right, BITCH!"
My favorite Jean scene in Evolution! I wish this could happen in the upcoming Dark Phoenix film, but that Mystique is good
Imagine how powerful this adaptation of the Phoenix would've been.
The sad thing is, season 5 was actually going to tackle the Dark Phoenix Saga. Before the series was cancelled.
@@schnaiderwissen8915let’s get it back
@@susanstorm7910
Does it mean this ain't Phoenix Jean 😮
@@Swahili14I mean… this is jeans true power, without Phoenix
Jean’s “phoenix power” was originally simply Jean’s own natural mutation evolving far too rapidly for her to control, and her psychic powers increasing beyond her capacity to regulate.
The only reason it was later retconned that the Phoenix was a separate entity that duplicated Jean while keeping her in suspended animation was because the writers wanted to bring Jean back to life after she died in the Dark Phoenix conclusion, and not forget that she previously killed an entire planet of people.
It was a way to not hold her responsible for her genocide and evil actions and return her to the X-Men roster.
I hate how people think they can jump into the whole phoenix arc without this level of development
Perfectly describes why Wolverine and the X-Men’s take on it failed badly.
@@901Sherman true
Don't forget the movies...failing TWICE
Kitty might have gotten the train through if Jean didn't slow it.
Bad team coordination
Kitty was the last resort incase Jean wasnt able to stop it. It was all a team initiative
Rex Nemorensis blaming Jean that much? Jean was doing better job than Kitty ever did.
Rex Nemorensis Kitty was only there to phase it through if Jean couldn't stop it.
😂 I just realized that. At least they tried though lmfaoo
How is it that the teenager version has more power and control then the grown woman
3:33 her hair turns into the Phoenix lol I just noticed that
6:44 You see the psychic shield suddenly expand and morph into the Phoenix itself.
Thats so cool! I never noticed the hair phoenix moment!
I loved the effects of her Force fields!
It's actually telekinetic fields but yeah.
As much as I love the 90s cartoon they did her dirty by making her so....like that.
Yeah, I always wondered, *what the hell was up with THAT?!*
In the 90's _comics,_ Jean was even stronger and more competent than Evolution Jean! _Why_ did they do her so dirty on the 90's cartoon?!
This is why Jean is my favorite :) I loved how X-men Evolution actually showed off how awesome she is.
Jean Grey is an asset for the X-Men.
She's more than an asset. She was a role model for the new recruits.
“My turn”
She ate that
this was the marvel's teen titans
The X-Men were always Marvel's Teen Titans. In the comics they started out as a team of teen superheroes.
That’s a REALLY good comparison!
X-TRA THICC basically their teen titans mixed with Doom Patrol which they were created around the same time
Básically
to bad the good shows get cancelled
Love the animation and the sound effects, they look dope af
I love that in the first minute of the video Jean gave Scott an X-Gasam so good he passed out like 90's Jean used to get all the time.
Funny thing is, I think that EVO Jean only ever had one X-Gasm that made her pass out. She was fighting Xavier's Son, Legion.
@@ShadowSonic2legion is more powerful than her????
@@susanstorm7910Without the Phoenix, yes he is
Jean was BADASS in this ! you did miss some scenes of her kicking ass though but cool video that outclasses the stupid Jean from the old cartoon ! Here they did her justice she was smart, strong and beautiful
I know I missed some from the first season but this video was long enough.
Most useful thing the 90 Jean did was episode 4 with the Morlocks. Only time she was fighting.
She did kick butt in that scene until she got knocked out
yah i remember when she took 3 of the Egyptian statues out so quick after she regained consciousness while all it took all the other X-Men so much effort to beat one 😂
Yeah like the girl power episode. Where she makes a car fly
She also doesn't faint or trip like 90s Jean was so prone to do so often.
You KNEW Mystique was in TROUBLE! haha!
Kitty should’ve phased the train underground
forceminder kinetic energy. It wouldve crashed and explode the moment she stoped phasing.
Or Kurt should have just teleported the train
I don't think Kurt has the power to teleport something that big. Plus he can't stop the speed, it'll still crash wherever he teleports it.
this is how jean should be using her power to fly too! not just walking!
Nah, Jean was the weakest X-Man before she became Phoenix.
@@agentofchaos7456 Only in the 90s cartoons. She's one of the first five X-Men in the comics and one of the Omega 12 etc.
He wasn’t just the 90s show but in the 60s comics.
I'm glad they didn't make her another damsel in distress
The phasing of the train probably would’ve worked if they were both moving lol
jean in this show: meh that was nothing
jean in the animated series 92: instantly unconcious after using her powers.
Better than the 90's as men Jean Grey.
90s Jean would have been like "These helicopters are too heavy!"
I think X men evolution is one of my favorite incarnations of the X men franchise. Cool cast nice suits really cool look.
You could tell from the animation just how much work Jean has to do, but you know she can do it
90's jean was worse than useless.
It's because the other shows and the movies are too far up Wolverine's ass to think about other characters
This is seriously the best version of Jean Grey. She not a "super strong"damsel in distress all the time
This is just the best version which is sad because she’s a teen and in all the other versions she’s an adult
Jean in 90’s: “Storm, could you get me a glass of water”
Jean from Evo.: “I held a whole dam up with the water overflowing girl are you even trying 🤦🏽♂️”
its even more ironic cos looking up "jean grey is use" comes up this and not jean grey is useless lol
And it will surpass that video in views soon!
yeah shes not useless. its a no brainer
And now it has more views!
hah!
They Don't Reply Back u do know that jean grey doesn't exist tho, right?
Jean from the 90’s: “I wasn’t strong enough, can’t hold it… uggahah”
Jean from Evo: “Hold my glass and my house sis, and I ain’t get the Phoenix yet”
The scene with the explosion was incredible 😮. Best depiction of telekinesis ever.
Change the title from "useful" to "OP"
LMAO
I. Th. She wasn't in this series.
Dani Lang Rogue was in this series
In "power surge" Rogue could not deal with Jean's power. Jean is the OP one. Legion was also awesome.
Oh I know the feeling. I thought Legion was so cool, killer design and great power, would've been nice to see more of him. I'm guessing that maybe had the show continued, he would've made another appearance.
OPness is the only way of usefulness I guess
Man, I love the '90s series, but it really did all of the female characters dirty. Every episode had a moment where one of them fainted and got saved by one of their male teammates. I know X-Men Evolution is very 2000s, and it took a lot of liberties, but it did a much better job of illustrating how formidable the X-Men were.
Evolution was really on it with the girls this time. Even had a whole Girl group where they were kicking ass. I wish they would continue this one too
I like how this show remembers that Jean can use her powers to fly.
3:27 One of my favorite things about X-Men Evolution is that both Storm and Jean gave Mystique the BUSINESS 💥🤛🏾
Both Xmen and DC have one thing in common their animated shows are better then most of their live action movies.
Evolutions version of the phoenix would of been amazing.
Loved that she was voiced by Ranma girl type Venus Terzo.
I want to see she being useful like this in the movies. Come on Fox!!!
You mean like what she did all the time? She single-handedly saved the X-Men from being buried underwater and atomized Apocalypse. I don't know why some people are in denial about all the good things presented in the movies, but it's pretty annoying.
@@schnaiderwissen8915she did it with the Phoenix, not on her own. The movies and 90’s versions of Jean are horrid compared to her in comics and here

Jean : * Unable to hold a man in her Telekinesis for more than 5 seconds *

Will never understand why they did that, Jean in the 90's comics was a badass like Evolution Jean!
Jean Grey / Phoenix

This is why I like X men evolution so much more than the 90s version.
Evo Jean can stop choppers, trains, explosions, even the Juggernaut when needed.
