    As much as I love high-end cars, I don't think that you need to spend tons of money to have an amazing experience. In fact, for a lot less money than you'd expect, there's one car that will give a very unique combination of the modern and classic supercar experience! That car is the Alfa Romeo 4C! In this video I give you the introduction to my heavily modified Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, the least expensive car in my garage, but arguably the most fun! I know the power figures might not suggest "supercar" performance, but there's a lot more to the very misunderstood 4C than a lot of people realize. Let me explain.

    • @samyb2834

      @@SA-be1bn Alfa Romeo is under FCA. FCA has garbage reliability and poor built quality. Actually, I'm surprised that Car Problems is pushing his car so much with a tune. The transmission is the weak point. The thing with the 4C is that it's a very simple car. The panels can be removed like a race car, the engine is reliable, a lot of parts are shared with other FIAT/AR models. So even if things break ,they are cheap to replace. You wont be charged the Ferrari/Lambo prices. Italians do not give a shit about reliability. They want to make the sexiest car. They want you to connect with the machine. It's all about what you feel driving the car. I drove a lot of cars and the 4C is one of a kind.

      @@samyb2834 The ALFA 4C has excellent reliability. In three different large sample reliability tests such as WhatCar for 3 year ownership of cars.....the first spots were the usual....Toyota, Lexus, but the first non Asian car was ALFA 4C which beat out Honda! BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Jaguar were way down the list. I bought my 2015 4C Launch Edition new and it has been trouble free. Many of the owners, including me, track them and it has proven to be pretty much bullet proof and never overheats even in very high ambient temperatures (this is a problem with many performance cars today....3 laps and than the go into cripple mode until cooled down....not the 4C). The Trans is NOT the weak spot....in stock condition or mild tunes it is fine. The trans is good for up to around 350 hp (engineering certified) and clutches last very long time. There is a strong after market support for suspension upgrades, etc. With just a few mods it is a terror on track. But even stock with better tires (the stock are junk for track use) it is very competent. If you want to learn more about the 4C join the ALFA 4C Forum...we have around 6000 members. I am one of 3 Super moderators there....RKBerta The car has cons of course, only 3.5 cf storage space, a little bit harder to get in and out (although I have no problem and I am 72 years old), no sound insulation to save weight so louder but it is a good loud, and basically completely impractical except for putting one hell of a smile on your face. I have other cars so not my only daily driver, but others do DD them and as long as you don't need lots of luggage space it is fine. By the way it has about twice the luggage space as the latest Ford GT ;-) I have owned other ALFAs...a 1970 ALFA Duetto I bought new and kept for over 40 years and a 67 GTV SCCA road racer. Lots of other cars have been in my garage from many countries and manufacturers. Only ALFA's makes me want to keep them for a very long time. I don't claim it to be the best or fastest car...but they are really special.

    Yeah a list of mods would be super cool and a list of other mods you’d do would be cool too. 👍🏻

    • @RobertKarlBerta
      @RobertKarlBerta 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go to the ALFA 4C Forum and they have all the mods and tricks discussed. In short....a good alignment with front toe set to 0, a better set of tires (the stock Pirelli PZeros tend to emphasize tramming) Michelin, Continental, Bridgestone all make tires hat are much better and improve the handling. If the steering is still a bit too nervous for your taste more caster will help. A couple of after market companies make spacers for that and give you more negative camber if you want to do more tracking. The car has plenty of power stock but a tune will make a lot quicker. You will be amazed how quick it is for a 106 ci engine....thanks to that light weight and a strong torque power band. Stock it will do 4.1 seconds 0-60 and mid 12 second quarter mile While it isn't a drag car the gearing and torque curve give it real grunt out of a corner and it doesn't need to always be wrung out at high rpm to get that power. There is plenty of after market support. One other advantage of a light car like the 4C is cost of consumables. Tires, brake pads, fuel, etc. will be a LOT cheaper than a heavier sports car like a Vette if your track it. The car gets excellent gas mileage also. Worse I get when hammered is 24 mpg. Normally it will run better than 28mpg and on long trips on freeways I get 34 mpg.

    The 4C is far cheaper right now for low mileage used ones than a C8 Corvette (mid-40s vs avg mid-60s to 85k) plus it’s far more uncommon (about 2500 produced), and IMO looks better. I say this as a Ferrari owner and huge C8 enthusiast - I have a lot of respect for the 4Cs.

It's rarer than a C8 or Lambo, it is less money and grabs just as much as or more attention on the road. Probably more fun to drive as well. It's like a misunderstood masterpiece that will be appreciated as we move towards cars that do all the driving for us.

    I totally agree on the 4C. I had a yellow 4C Coupe at the same time as my Performante Spyder and never took the Lamborghini out!! I added stage 1 upgrade taking it from 240bhp to 280bp and did the geometry. Not sure why you spent over 15 mins saying how good it was without listing all the extras (surely you know a lot of them) and not including any B roll shots (that would require more than a camera in your car).

  • @RobertKarlBerta
    @RobertKarlBerta 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I agree with your review. The 4C is a great car. I have a 2015 Launch Edition bought new and LOVE it even more than when I first bought it. It is not a GT sofa with wheels car. It is a raw drivers car that takes no prisoners. Yeah, like any car there are areas that could be improved....but a couple of minor mods, a good alignment, and better tires will take it into the next level. They have proven to be pretty much bullet proof and while not Chevy or Ford cheap to maintain they are a LOT cheaper than other cars like Porsche, Audi, BMW, Jaguar and of course Ferrari or Lamboghini. They do have one issue for some....limited storage area, but I have never found that to be an issue. If that is a big issue for you than get a SUV. But you will miss a heck of a lot of fun. The car really is impractical for anything except putting one hell of a smile on your face every time you drive it.

    • @RobertKarlBerta
      @RobertKarlBerta 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Forgot to mention....before my 4C, I owned a 1969 ALFA spider bought new and kept for over 40 years. If I had the garage space I would still have it also. Loved that car very much. By the way a member of my ALFA club has a 67 ALFA duetto with over 300,000 miles on it and it still runs tops. Sports cars need to be taken care of and maintenance done regularly....and they need to be driven, garage queens of any car will have problems as a result of not getting enough regular exercise.

Ferrari what it is a great driver and looker but you get to much attention. The TT is great for what it is too and I use it everyday. As with this Alfa the TT has a 1.8 turbo engine at standard 180 BHP which is a fine balance of power and economy for everyday driving. I could just chip it to get more power of 220 or more but my eyes saw one of these beauties yesterday and I said to my son I want to get one as I have always liked the Lotus cars. Exactly what this video is about I feel the same way. I like the excesses stripped away similar to the Lotus for that pure sports driving feeling/feedback.

      Storage needs? If I'm not going to drive for more than 4-5 days, I plug in the battery tender. That's about it.

    My dream car is a 4C Coupe (sorry, i don't like removable tops), however as i see your permanent smile on your face, this car suits you very well, even this is your cheapest car in your garage! :) Your face is the best answer for the little 'unkown' factory in Lombardia for their passionate works....
    Always a joy to hear people who drives often more powerful cars, even supercars, that they still can enjoy this lightweight Baby Ferrari. Man, Your words are authentic statements.
    I'm still loving my 4th Alfa Romeo in a row. I hope you'll enjoy yours for as long as you wish.

      I think the same - although there are now after-market articulated 'hard' tops for the Spyder which look far better than the OEM cloth from outside, but can still be folded and stored in the boot.

    I did 3-hour driving experience alternating between a Lamborghini huracan, a Ferrari spider, the mustang 500 Shelby, a regular seventh generation Corvette and the alpha 4c and out of all of them my favorite was the alpha!! And I was actually able to fit my 6'6 ass in it lol

    I’d be reaching for the clutch and gear leaver all the time. The first time my dad drove an automatic, he kept pressing the brake out of habit.

    did you drive any lotus? Every time i think of 4C and it's competitors on market, unique car that comes in my mind is an Exige or Elise

    • @rkberta
      @rkberta 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly the Elise and Exige aren't sold in US anymore. Have driven both and my neighbor owned an Exige highly modded and now a 4C also highly modded.Says the 4C is better....more power, more solid, more interior space and better looking (subjective of course). The carbon fiber tub is amazing....rigid as hell. Lots of potential with just a few minor mods. The Exige and Elise had a kit car feel to it and issues with trans and front suspension on the one with the Toyota engine.
      But they are still neat cars....wish the newer 6 cylinder Exige Cup was sold here....but the price would be very expensive and Porsche would be a better buy and better car so would have a competitive disadvantage price wise. They Exige Cup would go for more than two or three times the price of a 4C here in the US.

    How problematic is it to daily drive this car? I get that the cargo space is extremely limited but what else? How annoying woudl the lack of power steering be after a while? I'm dying to get this car but it seems wrong to daily it.
