So you wanna buy a supercar? There's a lot to consider, but one of the very first things that will draw you to one car over another is the spec. How much does spec matter? Which options are important? In this video I share some of my thoughts, opinions and actual first hand experience on what does and does not matter when it comes to spec. Modern supercars are all about options, and there's so many of them that are a complete waste of money! Great advice! I’m saving for my dream car, an AMG GT C Roadster. A month ago I saw a 2018 Selenite Grey Magno one but with light grey interior. Only 34kms on it (yes, I said 34kms, dude bought the car and parked it, if you can believe it!) full warranty and all the performance packages included. It was a deal, and although I didn’t quite have the money ( $138k ) yet, foolishly I didn’t even try to talk to the dealer cause I wanted a different color interior. Maybe I wouldn’t have been able to afford it, but take a lesson from me guys, when you see a deal, don’t let an esthetic hang up stop you from at least giving it a shot!

Just wondering, what's your view on infotainment GPS vs a free app like waze? I personally don't like spending ~2-900$ more on a GPS when there's an app. Maybe just me? Just interesting hearing about other people's spec preferences.
@@Carterthielftw_ I'm not the original commenter but I'd say imo having a built in GPS is just more convenient. You don't need to worry about anything. Just get into the car and type the adress and that's it.
If you don't have much money/want to save money, then go with waze. If you want more convenience, go ahead with the built in GPS.

Great videos! I like the commentary and personal experiences you have with these vehicles. Always something to think about if/when people are in the market for one of these high end cars.
Related to the spec topic, many manufacturers have custom order programs that are quick and reasonably priced. To that end, I've custom ordered several BMW M cars, received the cars in less than 3 months from date of order. Paid sticker; can't get a discount on custom orders but you get EXACTLY what you want. Less than 90 days is not asking a lot for delayed gratification.

Keyword is budget, for the used C7 Stingray I opted for the appearance and comfort packages(2LT) instead of waiting to save money another year or two to get a more powerful Z06. A red interior was a must, it pulls and wows the eyes. You have to be happy when opening the door each time. I would of been disappointed in a black interior. I chose the look of the car and having it now than waiting to have horse power. It was also important to have memory seats and I'm glad I found a car that had them, since it's a sports car it's tough to get out or in. Imagine readjusting the seat and steering manually every single time you get in or out. It would of gotten miserable real quick. As for appearance you can always buy the cheaper car now and add on aero kits later on when the budget permits it.
I wanted a gray car but I bought a black stingray because of the performance /comfort packages and extended warranty so it won me over. Black was my 2nd choice and it sure is beautiful when it's washed but I quickly realized it's a black curse because every time it rains or a few days driving it in the sun it gets real dirty and looks like crap. My intentions was to wash it only a few times in the summer but because it's black I have to hand wash it 1-3 times a week. By the way I consider the C7 in particular to be in the super car category.

Carbon ceramic brakes are great until you have the cost of replacing them....... which you will be doing if you're an advanced track driver, so totally agree with steel rotors.
Race buckets aren't DOT approved in the US and it's a govt. safety thing in Canada too I believe.
They also released the C7 ZR1 in the orange and that color makes the car pop......here's your second chance!!!!

Good video and true. However there are some cars that when you seen in a colour you have to have and do not accept anything else, a bit like the green in the AMG GTR. Other cars colour isn't so important.
I don't think I heard this in there anywhere, but there are also some spec options that could legitimately impact your experience if you do plan to keep a car forever. Carbon Ceramic brakes come to mind. Depending on how you plan to use the car, you can save potentially 5 digit sums on purchase price opting for iron rotors vs. ceramic (if available), and if/when they eventually wear out, you save again. Are the CCBs "better"? Yes objectively no question. Are they a better value? Unlikely in most cases as the performance advantage won't be felt by 99% of owners 99% of the time. Other things like that if you're buying a "forever" car and have to worry about out-of-warranty maintenance: Mag-ride suspension as well as front lift systems on cars where they aren't a must-have for usability. Both are nice-to-haves that can/will eventually cost an arm and a leg to replace/repair.
Front lift is fore sure an option that you want on a lot of cars like this. I actually recorded a bit about that but ended up cutting it out. I personally try to avoid CCBs whenever possible. Not a ton of benefit considering the initial cost and long-term replacement cost.
I bought my dream car in a z4 Alpina, because its a car from 2005 I was able to get the full specd out version. Go for a little older car and get everything you want would be my recommendation. It truns heads like its a ferrari and the driving experience is great, ot forgetting that natural straight 6 sound is unbeaten

My '18 NSX is bare bones...the carbon fiber options are way overpriced, and my experience with the car is fantastic. I don't need the "extras". You're totally correct. I'd never know it is a "base" model if I wasn't aware of the options.

The vast majority of the time they take away value. I personally try not to make any modifications that wouldn't allow me to revert the car back to stock when it comes time to sell. This allows you to sell your used aftermarket parts after the fact to get some of the money back. I personally like modifying cars, but it's not the best move if retaining maximum value is your number one priority.

Everything they're making right now is super cool! Knowing how much they depreciate, I wouldn't buy one new, but the new shape Vantage definitely appeals to me. I've shopped around for the previous gen Vantage as well. No immediate plans to get one, but an Aston is definitely on the list to own at some point.

Is the Roof Scoop on a 720S really change something or its just for the look ?
As far as I'm aware, Mclaren does not offer a roof scoop on the 720S. There is an aftermarket one from Novitec, but I don't think it's functional, which is lame. I car like that shouldn't have any fake vents. The 600LT roof scoop is fully functional though, which is very cool IMO.
You should've also gone over mandatory specs. We know for a fact that cars that are missing some key specs won't sell easily. Mainly talking about Apple Carplay here.

Does the interior of a car matter a lot to u? And not just the colour of it.
In a performance car, I care about a seat that holds you in place properly and a decent steering wheel. Everything else is secondary for me when the main reason I'm buying a car like that is to drive it. In a luxury car, I'd care a lot more about the particulars of an interior. In short, it depends on the car.
