    I have had seven Alfa Romeos over the last 30 years and my reliability experience has been extremely good, I have never been left standing at the side of the road waiting for a recovery truck. I have had a few issues such as failed electric windows on my 3.0l V6 GTV and a throttle position sensor on my 155 V6 but in general, they have been extremely reliable and reliability has improved over the years so I would have no worries about buying a modern Alfa.
    I will have a 4c spider eventually.

    Hey Stef I don't think you can quantify reliability on just 5months of ownership, maybe 3 years will be better along with say 20k miles. I await your video accordingly.

    • @StefABtv
      @StefABtv  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes I agree. It’s why I’ve spoken to owners and asked their experience too as mentioned in the video. Most say the same. :)

      There are many 4C owners, like myself, that have owned them for a longer time. I bought my 2015 new and it has been trouble free other than a broken knob that was replaced on warranty. I am one of three Super Moderators on the ALFA 4C Forum which has members all over the world. The car has proven to be pretty much bullet proof and reliable. Of course like any car there are outliers but pretty minor. No recalls either. What Car ran a survey of all brands in Europe and ALFA was the top Euro brand for least number of issues. All the German brands, Jag, etc. were way down the list for reliability. At the top were a couple of Japanese and Korean brands....but ALFA beat Honda by one spot on the list. Bottom line....most cars today have good engine and trans....the most frequent issues are electronics like dash displays, interactive screens, etc The 4C is a relatively simple car and that helps.

    • @robbymariani
      @robbymariani 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lup Fa 26k miles on a low production car is not the same as 26k miles on a civic. I’m sure people who are looking to get a newer 4C are interested in the comments from a long time owner.

    4C is a bespoke sports car, this is not to be confused with a mass produced hatchback that is fettled with to create a performance car, the 4c was built at Maserati factory on its own platform. The 4C is a future classic, it provokes emotions which is the main quality of a sports car, Stef thanks for updating us regarding the reliability of the 4C, poor reliability will not deter real enthusiast!

    Alfas have never been unreliable. They are expensive high end cars that are expensive to maintain. Bad owners make these cars unreliable by not servicing and doing maintainence. The problem is that they depreciate alot, and makes no sense to do an expensive repair on a car that isnt worth it anymore. So they get thrown away or sold for nothing. I have had over 30 alfas and i can bet anything that they are more reliable then anything german. Especially cars made pre 1990, they never die. (Rust is the only problem i have and is an ongoing battle for me with these cars) (i go through alot of fishoil)

    Good review, yes the anchoring in the carbon chassis seems a bit weak and should be preserved by avoiding fast speed on bad roads, then any Fiat/Alfa requires the proper fluids it is vital and then, yes they are extreemely robust.

    I live in the USA the cheapest price i found that I could remember last year was $46,000 USD (that was for a launch edition) but this year because of the coronavirus used cars are up almost 7% the cheapest one I see now is at $47,000 for a regular edition so this thing is holding its value very well. As of right now a launch edition is nearly $49,000. We have to wait till next year to adjust inflation due to the virus. We wont see real price till mid of 2021. But with that being said yes the alfa 4 c is reliable but you are forgetting the most important part ... that is the maintenance. I'm part of the forums and here's the biggest issue it's recommend requirement from Alpha R to inspect/check the torque settings of all the bolts holding the body and subframes to the 4c's carbon tub. Alfa says it needs to be done at 12, 36 and 60 months or 12,000, 36,000 or 60,000 mile. This process will add a estimate in USD around $1,000-2,000 to the service bill. I've been told the cam belt goes out faster than expected, but that is from a small number of people so I'm not sure if it's a mass issue. If I'm not mistaken that cam belt issue is from the earlier year models of the car, but I would have to do more research to give you a more precise facts. This is what steered me away from purchasing this car.

    It’s probably decent, but that’s a damn short ownership cycle

      I’ve pulled data from existing owners who have run the car for 40k miles with no issues

      Stef ABtv we can’t corroborate that data. We don’t have a source.

    I read that the tub bolts service is pretty dear? Is this true?

      I have a 2015 4C LAUNCH EDITION Bought new and no issues at all other than a broken knob that was replaced on warranty. I am not gentle with it either....some tracking and autocrossing. Yes part of the maintenance is a bolt tigthening every 12,000 miles. Runs around $900 US. The car is extremely ridged due to the carbon fiber tub and stiff suspension so like any sports car you need to check bolts every 12,000 miles. It may have been a bit of over concern by ALFA though as I have yet to hear of any of them having severe problems with loose bolts. When I had mine done last all bolts were correct torque. By the way other sports cars also have bolt tightening and suspension work required. Some like Porsche are far more expensive to maintain overall.
      The body panels are basically a more modern form of fiberglass and same as what is used on Corvettes today. It is dent resistant compared to steel body panels. If you had a more severe ding, it can be repaired just like you would on a Corvette. One nice feature is all the body panels, bumpers, hood and rear engine cover/hood are bolted on as individual pieces so can easily be removed and replaced if major damage....or also removed to gain easy access to the internal engine, trans, etc.
      No it isn't Chevy/Ford cheap to maintain....but as far as sports cars go it is generally cheaper than the other brands.
      By the way....before getting the 4C I owned a 1970 ALFA duetto that I bought new and kept for over 40 years. I would still have it also if I had more garage space.
