  • Shay and Michael were on a walk when they saw a big bee just walking on the side of the road. On their way back they saw her again, so they picked her up and realized she didn't have any wings! They named her Ruby and took her home to make sure she would be safe while she got stronger. While there, she became best friends with their cat, Pyro!
Special thanks to Shay for sharing Ruby Tuesday's story with us! Keep up with Pyro on Instagram: thedo.do/phonopony.

That bee could've had a very short and difficult life, most likely alone and without the mobility to survive on her own. But you gave her the best life she could possibly have had. For you, it was a month of your time, for her it was her whole life by your side.

Bees, ants and other insects communicate by scent, sadly not by the involuntary sound their wings make. Luckily bumblebees from different hives seem not to care when they are on the same flowers but if you tried the same thing with an ant, the other ones would shred it to pieces.

Fun fact: Insects and other arthropods absolutely have consciousness and self-awareness, albeit basic and vastly different from our own. Since it's brain and nervous system are so small signals are able to be sent and received much faster than humans can, essentially allowing this bee to perceive time in high fps slow motion. In other words, that single month meant a lifetime to that bee.

You want to hear something crazy? I rescued an ant one time. No joke. I found a single ant in my toilet. Just above the water, stuck and couldn't climb out of the slippery porcelain. I keep a clean house, so when I saw a small black object in my toilet bowl, I knew it had to be foreign. For some reason, I felt like I wanted to give the ant a chance to climb on and escape. And without hesitation, it literally jumped on my finger and crawled up. It didn't want to leave. I gently placed it on the ground and it didn't want to leave! I gently brushed it off and it hesitantly went about its way, but maybe I should have adopted it!

First of all, THANK YOU FOR SAVING THIS PRECIOUS BEE!!!! So much compassion which every animal deserves! I recently rescued a bumblebee this summer(our house is made of cedar and they love to carve holes in the wood for their homes which we don’t mind-afterall we are ruining the land which they need to live on) who was not quite an adult. She couldn’t fly as well because of perhaps a deformity as she had no wings? Will never know for certain why however I can tell you I sure did take care of her everyday-she had her flowers and sugar water. While I knew in my heart she wouldn’t live as long as she would in the wild with her wings I at least know she lived longer than she would had I not helped her. She was very lethargic and not doing well when I rescued her so when she became the same way 18 days later I knew it was her time to go. She passed peacefully in her little home right after I put her there. While I normally put them back in their home/hole, this one did not go back in so I didn’t force it as I didn’t want to chance her falling out for a second time. Love from my home to yours-Katie

This was just so precious and special. People overlook that insects also have important roles in our lives and that they all have emotions as we do. They become afraid, happy, and sad, they feel joy and become emotionally attached just as people do. Most importantly they are capable of love. My daughter loves life in every form and has a such deep respect for all living creatures and plants. We've had Wolf Spiders as pets that had free reign of our house, they drank from the dog bowls and hunted for their food to eat in the home, and they chose to stay inside with us. We had a huge female and she had no fear of any of us, including our dogs and cat. When she finally died she came out from the hole in the wall she dug out for her house, laid herself across my daughters' feet, and passed away peacefully. She lived a full life, had babies for the next generation, and lived very well and safely in our home for a little more than 2 years. For our family it was a very special time, the bond we had with her was as precious as any of our other pets. When I see videos like this one it makes my heart so joyful. We are bridging a gap we've never considered before. To have this kind of special and deep bond with a Bubble Bee is truly remarkable. Bubbles are so sweet.

Every other living being, look very different from us, and so their brain and everything else about them works very different than we are familiar with, and we are not able to really imagine how they really work or think...
But that does not mean that they are not intelligent at all, in fact within the last 5-10 years we REALLY have been seeing things that are so intelligently profound from all sorts of living beings behaviour, that scientists are now trying to figure out what it really is, and really means to be intelligent.

    • @jaymxu

@@theonefrancis696 Yep, even other spiders! I have actuallly made one of those big dark European House-spiders my pet and never kept it in captivity, started feeding it every single evening at 8PM, and it started showing up every single evening at 8PM near the same location, if i didn't exactly stand where i should have been (to test it) it would start looking for me, and always stand a good 4ft away from me on the wall or ceiling and stare at me from that distance and waited until i fed it, i named it Fred.
In winter it would go to sleep above my bed on the ceiling, so that it would feel my body head going directly up against him and keep him warm, it would keep insects away, and never caused any issued, one day he just vanished, and never ever saw him again nor any other spider, presumably maybe his children would be around but nope.
And i figured out this is even possible with ants, i am not joking. And this made me a very very smart and aware person today, literally EVERY living being is intelligent. In their own way but it's definitely there!

Many years ago at the pond near our village there was a young swan frozen in the ice. It was so young it still had its greyish brown feathers and apparently couldn't even fly yet and was left there. Before that my mother and some other people always fed it so it would survive through the winter. It's mostly a farmer village so there's enough food suitable for ducks and chicken around which the swan got as well. Then one day it apparently had broken into the ice on the pond, couldn't get out anymore and the hole froze close again. The fire brigade could rescue it though and after it was nursed back to health they let it free on a river at the next town over where the few swans of the area usually stay during winter.
Each year a swan couple returns to the pond to breed. I don't know how long swans live but it could be possible that one of them is still our swan, or maybe one of its offsprings.

OMG - This is amazing. I love Bumble Bees. I have seen them so tired that the have a wee nap in the flower with their butts sticking up. Such an amazing insect.

This is the second story that I’ve seen of someone looking after a wingless bee. And both stories are just as heartwarming as each other. Ruby was very lucky and happy right to the end. I couldn’t imagine her being safer and more loved anywhere else. Beautiful story!

This was the best thing I have seen in a while. Ya got me bawling over how good they were to a bumble bee. God I love the wee creatures, makes me feel good to see em treated well.

You are an amazing person!!, to have noticed Ruby’s needs from the very beginning takes so much intuition.
Good for you, perhaps there was something you needed to learn and Ruby was placed there to help you learn. God bless your kindness!!. 🙏🏼❤️

It shows that even a little 🐝 can have an amazing impact on human lives.
I bet along with her teaching you, you researched a lot about her.
You gave her the best life because we both know she wouldn't have survived without your intervention.
She loved you so much that she stayed around beyond her life expectancy.
She was the queen bee ❤️ 🐝 🌼

Thank you for caring for the smallest and weakest of creatures, and loving her! Animals just know, and they feel love too.

Well although that bees life was short and rough due to its inability to fly I'm sure that it lived a happy life, because of how much it was cared for and loved truly amazing how even a bee can become a friend especially in today's world. Ruby will be missed but she will never "Bee" forgotten 🐝

Most likely from the Deformed Wing Virus. I saw a video about a bumblebee with it when another lady and her son were taking care of the bee they found and an expert said that's most likely what the bee had. It's sad. :(

@@astucity After some research it appears its a virus transmitted in the pupae state by mites that are vectors of the virus. Its a known cause of colony collapse disorder because the mites continue to cause the virus until the whole colony dies. Its fascinating.
