    Most of these things are due to price, I don't see how going in reverse is that difficult for you, but I've got a car that uses the same mechanism so I guess I'm used to it. The shifts are WAY better short, you don't want to be shifting with a long throw in a sports car it makes shifting really slow compared to the shorter throw and is actually harder for me to miss gears when using short throw shifters. The thrustmaster shifter is about the same throw, but the leaver is longer and the shifter is gated.. and it costs twice as much..

    • @OCRacing
      @OCRacing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      I agree with what you said. I think the biggest problem with this shifter is simply how little force is actually required to switch gears. Totally aware that this is due to its low price and in all honestly, I don't know of any other H-pattern shifters in the market at this price point. This shifter isn't bad considering the price, I wouldn't say its necessarily good either. Its kind of just decent for the price. @wolo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    The problem with reverse is actually well known, it seems it occurs in all versions. This is caused by micro-cracks on the circuits of that small board with two wires and a switch, which can be found at the very bottom inside of the shifter. The reason it don't react sometimes is after some number of pressing the lever down to use the reverse, it presses that button on that tiny board, and clearly it's not sturdy enough and eventually connections on that board are sometimes split/broken (there's two of these lines, leading from one of the wires to the switch and then back to the second wire.) To fix that you need to re-make these two circuits, ie. by soldering some wire instead, which will be much more sure working in such stressful conditions.
    So: open the shifter, carefully remove the main shift mechanism and locate that little board somewhere under it. (it's good to hold the mechanism, to not have to waste time reassembling some parts of it when you let it split to parts.. try to find someone to hold it for that time or maybe use some clamp, like these for woodworkers) Then fix these mentioned connections on that board (don't waste your time examining how they look and trying to find the break on them. You'll probably won't, such are too small to recognize them easily, just solder wires to connect the points which are originally connected with these lines, then put it back, assemble with the mechanism and that should be it.

    having buttons and a sequential mode would have been really cool for sure. no clue why they thought removing the buttons and stuff was a good idea. I have to agree about the plastic bit on the knob, after a handful of sessions with it, it started moving around and popping up like yours. I got used to the reverse gear, it became easier once i got a frame for my rig and wasnt afraid to push on stuff. and yeah it is pretty toy-like. i like how easy it is to push into gear (i practically just slap the thing forward to go 4th-3rd). but yeah, having a nice clunk feeling would complete it. But the price tho! considering a thrustmaster shifter is like $170 and all you get extra is sequential mode and a 7th gear (dont know if it feels any better, I would hope but i havent tried it), logitech prob doesnt see a reason to make the shifter better or cheaper. good to know other people have some of the same gripes as I do.

Aftermarket shift knobs make it much heavier, and then the shifter feels sloppy as you are able to easily overpower the detent bearings (these let you feel a click of resistance between gears). These things last a year at most. My second one just started hitting the shitter so I spent the money on the TH8A from Thrust master.
    It's a longer throw, but has a sequential and 7 speed manual. It uses magnetic hall effect sensors which means that the only moving part is the stick itself, and there are no moving internal parts to wear down. It's genuinely made out of 99%, the only exception being trim pieces that don't affect anything reliability wise. Had the thing for 12 hours and the difference in quality is night and day.

    Totally agree. I have the same reverse recognition problem. Also agree on the toy feel. Once you have driven a real 5 speed, this is totally annoying due to a lack of resistance or feel like a real transmission. It also has a tendency to go from fifth to second and second to fifth if you let it go where it wants naturally. Having an actual gate to shift through would help this significantly.

Whenever I have long nights of sim racing I have to remind myself the next time I use my car to actually put more strength and effort into moving it. Same goes for the wheel actually, it is quiet smaller than a real wheel. But oh well, it does the job its designed to do and it does it well without breaking so I am overall very happy with it. Also yes I purposely used shitter instead of shifter

    It's great for the price. Everybody needs to be realistic here because it's a video game accessory. If you want unmatched realistic shifting then go learn a real standard transmission. Otherwise, pop the knob off, pull the boot up and do the hair tie or rubber band mods for a "heavier" shift.

The G27 had 6 wich was better. The G920 and 29 have a bit more on the wheel. Also, the shifter beeing optional, i can see why they dont want any buttons not available for everybody. Imagine being a console racer and missing out on some buttons. ;)
