      it works fine for me, I've been having mine with my G25 ever since the G25 came out. So quite a while now.
      Only thing that really bothers me is that Reverse tends to stop working. To fix that, I have to open it up and clean the contact points. Then it works again for a couple of months.
      It does feel a bit toy-ish and there is some side to side slob in 3rd and 4th but barely anything in 1-2 and 5-6 though.
      And last year, The boot ripped on the front. That still happened a lot later in it's life than i imagined it would.
      Overall it's still going strong non the less today

    Personally, I would put longer, stronger magnets inside of a spring, so as you pull on the stick, both the magnet and spring will pull back right up until you overcome both the spring and the magnet. This *should* prevent the jarring feeling you can't help but get when a solidly-mounted magnet releases.

  • @d.joseph4356
    @d.joseph4356 2 ปีที่แล้ว +118

    I bought the mod kit. The gated shifter helps prevent miss-shifts. The magnets add a tactile feel “click” but does not increase resistance of the shifter. I don’t think they are meant to do that anyway. Also bought the paddle shifter mod. It works well to add a more positive tactile feel to the paddles. Just note that the fitment onto the steering column requires the user to put some tape under the clamps in order to prevent it from slipping. Bought the clutch and gas pedal adapters to increase spring tension. I don’t think they are effective. Installation is abit of a pain as well.

    hrmmm clicked this out of curiosity with what mods are out there for my setup but i hadn't noticed a particular problem with miss-shifts or gears popping back out of place like i've seen in some other videos but i also noticed the people with complaints all are using nicer wheel setups with the intended mounting for the shifter whereas i'm just using an only drafting table with the wheel, joystick (AKA 30$ handbrake), and shifter are all on the same level just with the brake(stick) slightly behind the other two to prevent bumping it when moving to shift quickly.
    i wonder if perhaps the G29's shifter being a somewhat budget friendly option is designed to work in a tighter space or with the arms higher up than the nice mounts and where most cars would have them IRL. ( i'm just speculating after a morning of mod rabbit-holes)
    thanks for the vid, great to see whats out there and you covered it in 6 minutes rather thoroughly so that was appreciated. will definitely be back for more videos!~

    I've never had any problems with the Logi shifters. Had the classic G27 shifter and the new one. Once you get used to it it becomes second nature. I can even shift LHD or RHD without missing gears. However, I do wish it felt a bit sturdier. I have no complains about durability (even my old G27 shifter still works), but it does feel flimsy and it lack that solid snap when shifting a real gear lever.
    I though of getting this, but my concerns are that the internal components are exposed. There is grease inside and if you get dust in it, it won't take long until you start experiencing cars popping out of gear, or not getting into gear at all. You are pretty much reducing the life of your shifter.
    Second, is that it does look pretty rough. I know it's 3-D printed, but the knob just looks alike a huge hunk of plastic.
    If this thing was in a way internal, with a custom boot to keep the dust away, and maybe the ability to use your own custom knob, then it probably be a better choice? I mean, at what point does it stop form being a good investment. The Logi Shifters are only like $60 afterall.

    "doesn't increase the force required to shift through the gears"... makes sense, since the base mechanics aren't altered, just the endpoint where the gearlever clicks into place is altered with this mod, and the feel of the release out of a gear, but not the flow in between those two states.

Some of the pieces just seem way too thin so I'm not sure why he was saying the quality was so high when you can tell just from looking at it that it's not. Something 3d printed like this is going to crack or break from extended use and type of force it'll be put through constantly shifting

    • @Case_
      @Case_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funnily enough the old version of the Logitech shifter that was sold with the G25 wheel can be switched to sequential mode. Works pretty well and is worth seeking out the old version instead of the new one, also because the old one actually feels somewhat sturdier.
      Also, fun fact: the shifter actually isn't based on microswitches for each gear. It just has two potentiometers (X and Y axis) and the stick movement is fully analog, with the gear switch "button presses" simply being simulated for specific stick positions. If you get the Bodnar adapter that allows you to connect the shifter as a standalone USB device, you can customize the actuation of the virtual "buttons" for the gears, which is of great help if you're trying to avoid mishifts, especially as the shifter gets older and the potentiometers drift a bit.

    If the shifter works similar to an arcade stick then there may be a way to stiffen it up.
    The idea is that a spring pulls the stick into the middle/neutral position. If that is the case then exchanging the spring to a stiffer one would solve this complaint.

  • @stephencutajar2548
    @stephencutajar2548 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    I can see numerous faults with this, the gear dividers would be the first to break with more aggressive shifters, the magnets would need to be set an angle to match the gear rod and this mod would not do anything to the actual movement through the shifting, and that gear knob should definitely be rounded at the top. The best option would be the one from 3Drap with the optional metal plate which incidentally I criticised before because the piece that was used for the resistance breaks in a matter of a couple of days but they have since solved the problem using different filament for the part.

    • @liamturner6424
      @liamturner6424 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the actual gear deviders are done within the shifter hence why it works with the stock shifter boot on it which also means the plastic bits that stick out shouldt break off unless your reealllyy agressive with it

    • @ay-leck1369
      @ay-leck1369 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't even think the dividers could break unless you are physically trying too. Similar to what @Liam Turner said, the rod of the shifter is connected to a mechanical sub-piece that loosely locks into place with little holes in the shifter base. In other words, the system of the shifter does not rely on these dividers. If anything, the dividers are purely cosmetic to make the mod look more like a real life shifter.
      All in all, there are likely better alternatives, but this mod shouldn't be ruled out as a piece of crap.

    No matter how strong the magnets provided are, they will never provide the resistance you're looking for since the metal shaft is only going to be attracted to the magnets, not repelled from them. That shouldn't be a negative point for G-Mod since it is not supposed to create any type of resistance. If you want resistance, you'll have to use rubber bands underneath the gate.
