I prefer Wheel because it feels better to use, it's definitely more difficult especially because going from one extreme angle to another in an instant is slower on a wheel but the feel of it is so much more satisfying. I haven't been able to play on a controller ever since I got my wheel.
Its because of the arcade component in game. If you turn the wheel fast from left to right in a real car or a good sim you'll get spun in many cases. So you need to play with gas/brake and also catch your car with a little opposite steering move - that can't be handled on a gamepad.
There's an inch of movement on the controller but so much more on the wheel - it's much easier to be accurate and dial in the fine angles with a wheel. The controller is good for the hacking about of Rally driving or even Drift but not so great for tracks, high speed corners or aero heavy setups, imo. The speed with which we can switch from full lock is only a compensation for error (in practical use) - it doesn't help make the time as such, just save losing more.. Ultimately they both have benefits and negatives and both of those will vary from user. I'd say controller for Arcade games and wheel for those trying for physics beyond NFS.

I’ve been drifting with a controller since the early 2000s and it’s no thing to jump into any of these sims. The only thing that’s not apparent from the start is with the joysticks you have to be very very precise with your input. Little taps and light pressure to hold a line.
On the controller take the left analog stick and push it forward. Then rock it back and forth instead of hard left and hard right like you're doing. That allows you to make very very precise movements and able to hold exact angles.
Lower the dead zone of the joysticks on the controller as much as you can and it will let you make more precise turns, but if you have a broken joystick if will drift by itself so you might have to keep it turned up
2:18 you have to adjust the deadzones for controllers to minimize car sway without steering input. I can drift perfectly fine with controllers its the throttle control that sometimes gets me
@@Andrew110 depends on the dead zone but those are capacitive triggers and already way too sensitive too I like the ps5 controllers resistive triggers which would be perfect for forza! Controller is just more competitive and easier to control the car in this game specifically. However in B class using a wheel can be very strong when driving FWD cars. I’ve only seen a few people race well on wheel
In my opinion, wheel for realistic experience, controller for racing and it’s much easier to drift. Controllers have the advantage of completely being able to turn the car quickly which is pretty much what you need in Fh5 and nfs
I've found it easier to control angles if you pull the left stick back and steer using the joystick border, rocking it to the left or right for which direction you need
I feel like the steering wheel is extremely useful in certain games, for example, in nascar games a steering wheel would allow you to precisely hold the turn angle and keep your line steady throughout turns, but for other games, the steering wheel isn't really that much more beneficial
I think you should set the steering difficulty settings "normal" for controller and "simulation" on steering wheel. The "simulation" settings for controller for most people is just too responsive, turn10 does a great job with that auto-adjusting for joystick input in normal settings. although it could be not responsive enough for several people. And one more thing, i suggest you to use an Xbox Series X/S controller bcs they have that rumbling feedback on the trigger buttons (i forgot the name) that really helps in giving you information when you throttling, drifting, lose traction, and braking. I don't know if this is also applied in PS5 DualSense with their adaptive feedback.

Quick tips, use a steering wheel, take automatic off, trac control off, stability control off, abs off once you get used to the others, and that’s it. No matter how nasty you get on controller it will not translate to real life, a wheel will.
Steering with a controller I never just go left right, exactly because its difficult to peg the right steering angle, I usually push the analog all the way forward and then roll it from left to right, it gives you way more control
When I started drifting on the controller, the only thing that's difficult for me is the lack of fluidity. Non FD cars don't "ride" on the turns, they just feel tight, which means they're loose. I adapted to handbrake drifting instead of power over, because the game thinks 600hp isn't powerful enough.
i also drift with a controller and im pretty good at it, it all depends on how you tune your car if you have enough hp to wheelspin you have enough to drift i've even got the ford transit van at b class able to drift without massive engine upgrades. if you havent locked your rear differential for a start then thats a big tuning mistake also if you dont play on manual or manual with clutch then its more awkward trying to keep it in the correct gear traction control and stability assist also kill drifting
i thought the easiest way to tune a car to make it driftier is just to increase the rear supension (springs, shock and all) stiffness and decrease the front suspension stiffness?
As someone who’s never played on wheel or keyboard, and only on controller, the main downside is if you want to have manual with clutch and telemetrics (I’m ortty sure that’s what it is) I had to change it to be pretty wacky controls because they made literally almost every button required or it won’t work, so you must assign everything to a button (I was most annoyed by quick chat and map buttons being required) and you can’t use a normal setup, I had to set rewind to right stick up 😭 and telemetry next/last to left stick ip/down They made it so it mostly has to be completely at that spot though so I almost never accidentally rewind or switch telemetry modes but I can’t look around as well. Also here’s a top for Xbox players, if you play with cloud gaming it will lag, and if you drift you can turn on cockpit drift camera in hud and gameplay settings, only helps if you play in cockpit/first person camera
Steering wheel gives you much more of control. That especially matters in less arcade games. The difference with a gamepad is like you are playing 3d shooters with very huge sencitivity and limited by only simple and rude actions. A gamepad gives you more freedom in control - walking, flying, and still you can be a top driver with a gamepad. So I like both of them and more often prefer a gamepad. But if I want to go to just driving and feel it I want to use a steering wheel no questions.
Wheel is infinitely more difficult, especially in manual. You also have the option of clutch drfting in addition to handbrake drifting whereas on controller, your options are streanlined/limited, and everything is quicker/closer and more easily accessible. In my opinion, the force feedback system in FH5 still isn't that great or communicative, and countersteering is way more difficult and slower than on controller which is inhumanly quick, and you also don't have to fight against physics there.
one thing that never gets mentioned because its barely supported or used....PS4 motion controls! unfortunaly the input is a little delayed, but i got used to it and i prefer it over stick. takes practice and thinking ahead, but it you can get the angles much better
I use controller and I’m really good at drifting but I still really want a steering wheel. Oh and using a controller I literally just lay back and zone out drifting
Love your vids. Don't know why I was not subscribed? I am an iRacer, that is my jam. I just picked up this game to mess around and kick back on the couch with a controller. To not think and just dink around a bit. It is absolutely fantastic for that. (I also am a wheel gamer, and m&kb for most titles. Rare I play anything with a controller but this game nails it!)
I think the best way to choose depends on how chill you want to be, i mean controller is generally easier, but wheel is more realistic. Controller is simple, wheel is demanding but more realistic.
I have a wheel g29 for gran turismo but come one, for Mario kart, nothing beats the controller and turning the controller on angles, so satisfactory for hardcore
if you want to drift on controller very easily any of the dodge mucle cars like a challanger and look for drift tunes with AWD, best performance score and use automatic, its so easy and its very easy to maintain angle too you dont have to wiggle with it.
havent played forza but in general when it comes to racing games pushing up when steering with a controller will help you be more accurate; i guess you can treat it as the wheel that way
A wheel is more fun, but for drifting and races, controller is definately easier. Me and my bestfriend always use a steering wheel when free roam racing/drifting, but when we join an online race or drift session we switch to controller, controller is way easier to control and to do some laid back stuff in
NEVER a steering wheel is gonna be better than a controller performance-wise, but it will ALWAYS be more fun when doing chill stuff like cruising, offroading, drifting, etc etc. I always play games with wheel when casual but switch to controller when im tryharding :D
Just started using wheel w/ FH5. Wheel is way, way more fun most of the time. Controller is much, much easier, especially for drifting and for rally/loose surface driving. I know the fact that my experience level with controller vs wheel plays into it, but still - controller is just easier by nature. You don't have to been nearly as precise with steering inputs to still be fast ("fast" as compared to MOST of the player base).
My rules are: Controller for Fighting, Racing, 2d games, platformers, metroidvanias, some action RPGs that require a lot of skilful comboing, Hack n Slashs. Keyboard for FPS, First Person RPGs like Skyrim, Deus Ex, Cyberpunk and certain others RPG's like the Witcher or any MMO. If a game has both driving and shooting I sacrifice having a satisfying driving experience bc shooting well is more important

i also drift with a controller and im pretty good at it, it all depends on how you tune your car if you have enough hp to wheelspin you have enough to drift i've even got the ford transit van at b class able to drift without massive engine upgrades. if you havent locked your rear differential for a start then thats a big tuning mistake also if you dont play on manual or manual with clutch then its more awkward trying to keep it in the correct gear traction control and stability assist also kill drifting
i thought the easiest way to tune a car to make it driftier is just to increase the rear supension (springs, shock and all) stiffness and decrease the front suspension stiffness?
Controller might be easier, but nothing beats a wheel for fun
As someone who’s never played on wheel or keyboard, and only on controller, the main downside is if you want to have manual with clutch and telemetrics (I’m ortty sure that’s what it is) I had to change it to be pretty wacky controls because they made literally almost every button required or it won’t work, so you must assign everything to a button (I was most annoyed by quick chat and map buttons being required) and you can’t use a normal setup, I had to set rewind to right stick up 😭 and telemetry next/last to left stick ip/down
They made it so it mostly has to be completely at that spot though so I almost never accidentally rewind or switch telemetry modes but I can’t look around as well.
Also here’s a top for Xbox players, if you play with cloud gaming it will lag, and if you drift you can turn on cockpit drift camera in hud and gameplay settings, only helps if you play in cockpit/first person camera
You're so good at drifting on a controller bro! Best controlelr drifter i know
Some of the reviews you gave the controller is in my opinion underrated because sadly I already used one
Dude😂 your are so funny lmao, shortcut" rams straight in to a shed😂😂
Haha, this was awesome to watch. You're very entertaining, and that's honestly difficult to pull off well.
Hey, thanks!
goosiest: goes offroad
WHO PUT THIS HOUSE OFF THE ROAD
The steering wheel connects a lot more your mind to the driving experience of this game it’s for sure
No need to go to the gym for the steering wheel; I drive a car without power steering so jokes on YOU!
I use an Xbox X series controller. It’s pretty easy for me. I can do many drifts and maneuvers, even with stock grandma cars 💀
one thing that never gets mentioned because its barely supported or used....PS4 motion controls! unfortunaly the input is a little delayed, but i got used to it and i prefer it over stick. takes practice and thinking ahead, but it you can get the angles much better
I use controller and I’m really good at drifting but I still really want a steering wheel. Oh and using a controller I literally just lay back and zone out drifting
Love racing slower car classes on the wheel feels more real
As a poor person with only a controller; I see this as an absolute win
idk about controler vs steering but I wish games would use actual fences that don't break apart like dry leaves on the slightest touch
Welcome aboard!
relaxation = controller
steering wheel = Trainging and workout yeah
Man I always get last by not knowing it’s off-road then picking a super car 😂😂😅
I think the best way to choose depends on how chill you want to be, i mean controller is generally easier, but wheel is more realistic. Controller is simple, wheel is demanding but more realistic.
I have a wheel g29 for gran turismo but come one, for Mario kart, nothing beats the controller and turning the controller on angles, so satisfactory for hardcore
Controller is easier, but it's not about making it easier, it's about having the best experience
if you want to drift on controller very easily any of the dodge mucle cars like a challanger and look for drift tunes with AWD, best performance score and use automatic, its so easy and its very easy to maintain angle too you dont have to wiggle with it.
havent played forza but in general when it comes to racing games pushing up when steering with a controller will help you be more accurate; i guess you can treat it as the wheel that way
watched your video after a year still the best
