    Wow! Killed it! I was just here for tech tips on my new pedal and about to click another video when you started the song. But that performance was top notch! Great arrangement and all around musicianship. You've clearly put a lot of thought into everything you're doing. Even little things like scatting motives from the horn parts brought me a big smile. I'm gonna listen a few more times while I make lunch, lol.

    Watching you do looping is so fun and helpful . I just got a looper today and have been playing with it so much. I’m a drummer and steel drum player, correct term is steel pan, and I wish I could beatbox as well as you.

    • @EmilyMcVicker
      @EmilyMcVicker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh dang! Drummer? you're gonna be a pro at looping. I wanna see what you do with ur looper and steal drums! How unique!

    • @numanuma20
      @numanuma20 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EmilyMcVicker My main instrument is steel pan and I play to backing tracks that I’ve made using midi files I downloaded with my virtual libraries, tracks I’ve made in Band in a Box, highly recommended it for creating songs fast with real instruments in the songs or I download karaoke tracks. My only experience with “looping” is using Ableton Live thus, I’m new to live looping.

    • @numanuma20
      @numanuma20 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve been messing around with my Headrush Looperboard that came in a few days ago and I like it. I use it in free mode which doesn’t quantize the loops I make. I’ve been off beat so far when recording loop so when I play them back, they’ll be cutoff to early. I also need to figure out how to stop it from recording the click track.
      P.S. I see you using a shaker and tambourine somethings and recommended getting a Meinl aluminum jingle shaker.

    Gosh, I used to perform 'Lovely Day' in my set almost twenty years ago....but with a backing track I'd made myself. Funny you should mention the Roland VR-09. I bought one a few years back, mainly because it was super light and could take batteries. I was going to take it busking, but taking a keyboard busking (as opposed to a guitar) has its own problems. Anyhow, I sold it, along with most of my other keyboards and now have just one, the mighty AKAI MPC Key 61. It is the best piece of music tech I have ever owned (and I've owned a lot over the past forty years). It now is my go to' piece for all pop / rock recording. It won't do orchestral simulations of which I still need my mega PC, NI libraries and Komplete Kontrol S88MKII, but for everything else, the Key 61 and a Tascam Model 24 mixer can achieve things my £20K studio couldn't do. I love technology for that. Your 'Lovely Day' has a very laid back approach. I think the only thing I really missed was a picked, funky guitar part, which could just be the tonic as it would fit in with all the chords and would repeat really well. I also think an electric piano which sparkles (tinkles) a bit more more than the sound you had might be better, but I'm nit-picking. As always, your super vocal performance makes everything shine irrespective of what I've just written.

    Emily, this is very nice. I have a question. How do you have button 5 (track 3) configured in this? I see you're going directly from recording vocal 1 on track 3 to overdubbing vocal 2 , also on track 3, with a single button press.
    I have my record buttons configured as TRK1-6 REC/PLAY4 . I'm looking at the parameter guide now....

    • @EmilyMcVicker
      @EmilyMcVicker  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you got to into the ‘loop’ button and then *i think* ‘rec’, the default is rec>play>dub but I switch mine to be rec>dub>play. Hope that helps!
      Is that what you were asking asking?

    • @Tcsingandstrum
      @Tcsingandstrum หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EmilyMcVicker Yes, that's what I was asking. I had been looking at the ctl functions, I didn't think to go into loop/rec as you suggest. So it's an easy fix, although it changes the behavior for the entire track. I'll have to see if it works with my workflow.
      Thank you so much!!

    Do you exclusively use the Boss RC-600? I was considering buying this device but I wasn’t sure if there’s anything it can’t do as well as other options. I just want to make sure if I invest in a looper that I’m getting the best product for the money 😊

    • @EmilyMcVicker
      @EmilyMcVicker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is definitely my main one these days. I like being able to operate with my feet so I can play instruments with my hands. And I think this is the best floor looper at this time. But looping is very specific to the performer. I also have a 505mk2 that I demo a little on here, but there are less types of gigs that would make me bring that one over the 600. I should make a video about it

    You definitely should Lean On Me. The song is so perfect for live loop. You just need to know the when you sing the bridge “You can call on my brother” the melody doesn’t match the rhythm. I think the melody is a beat ahead.

    I love how quickly you get the loops up! Something for me to aspire to. Does the RC 600 have an auto record function like it knows to arm track 2 after you close track 1 or are you just tapping that fast?
    P.S. Withers also did "Just the two of us" which is another fun one to loop that people love. I want to learn the rap from Dr Evil (Austin Powers) and throw it there one of these days. 😂

    • @EmilyMcVicker
      @EmilyMcVicker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes! I want to learn that one!
      With the recording, it will stop recording on one track when you start recording on the next track. So if you can mentally prepare for what’s next, it’s a good trick 👍

      Hi Emily. Thanks for calling back.
      I forgot l was on the internet and
      could find things out. It does not
      have an arpeggiator, which is very
      good to have for trance type music.
      I was really bummed, cuz your
      keyboard is SO much better in every
      other way than then one I can
      afford in that price range - especially
      the sounds. Thats what I hate
      about instrument companies....
      they always give you this - but
      not that. That - but not this, etc.
