Your animation is amazing. Great use of Character animator. I must learn this video to come up with a small space man character for my space animations. you have great angles and scenes too. Inspirational.
Just wanted to say, thank you so much for this tutorial. It really helped craft the puppet for my company mascot. Definitely subscribing and looking forward to seeing more of your work!
@@ChrisOVEMERY I've been having trouble with the legs being wonky and the way you space them without the dragger on the knee made it look really nice. I'm gonna give it a shot.
@@ChrisOVEMERY I wanted to make the stream today but got held up! I finished the project involving the walk cycle. It went super solid! I like the walk cycle function in CH, it is simple but perfect for what I needed it for. I want to play around with it a bit on my own time to see how custom you can push it, but for a standard walk cycle it was perfect. The tutorial you made was great! The troubleshooting part when you talked about tweaking the 3 areas(rig, illustration, behavior) was key, very helpful. Here's a little rough clip of the piece I did drive.google.com/file/d/1Cgpb253toygXrIxa_qyLwWgPhfZ8Evuw/view?usp=sharing Thanks for the tutorial!
I actually liked when your skull logo was distorting. I was wondering how you must have rigged it to look that cool, feels like the jaw was moving, thought maybe you had a dangle on it with physics, but then you mention it was a mistake and you fixed it haha.
Thank you for your video. It's quite informative. I've notice the standing position has the basic leg and torso angles as the left profile. Is there truly a standing position where the character is actually not angled and, if so, can that front standing character (think the Blank (Photoshop) character image) be manipulated into a right/left profile easily? Thank you.
Chris, any plans on doing a background creating tutorial using photoshop? I really love your work. I’ve never been into animation really until now. (I’m a medical student thinking about dipping my toe into animation for fun) I have no clue what the hell im doing tho. Cheers pal.
Awesome hearing your getting into the animation game Bruce! Have fun and play around with it and you'll learn so much! Regarding backgrounds I have a stream highlight on the subject "How I'm drawing backgrounds for animation in Photoshop (Stream highlight)" up on my channel. Check it out! Some more in depth tutorial will come in the future though!
Super cool. As a beginner I am lost what to do once this is done. Like how do you import it to whatever set you've created for its environment. And which adobe product do you use to make the environment he's walking in, at the end? I hope you don't say after effects, I'm already juggling learning An, Ch and Ps, super overwhelmed but I will not quit
I don't know if you're gonna read my comment or not after 4 weeks! First of all thank you for all your helpful vids and tutorials 👌 they are wholesome and very educational 💙 Secondly I hope that you would make another version with same step by step full rigging tutorial for the newest release of the beta version of Ch animator. I do motion graphics and in my workflow I've been relying on duike and other similar character animation scripts in after effect but now with new updates I'm thinking about switching to Ch and I'm sure that others well do also. Thanks for your efforts
It took 20 minutes lol ;D Thank you very much Ehab. I'm sure I'll look inte the new features and do tutorials in the future! I wouldnt want to do it for beta though, as things might change when released in full, so Im waiting for full official release. Thanks again!
when you stop walking , it defaults to the standing layer, even if that pose is in the opposite direction to where you were walking. it would be nice to have it stay pointed in the same direction as it was walking when it stops walking. do you only have one standing pose per puppet?
@@exnewyorker4374 Thank you. To my knowledge there is no solution within Ch. There might be (Im not a pro), but since I always render as .mov with alpha I kinda cut it up and flip inside of After Effects later.
Heyy unknown dont wanna share my character since its the one I use in all my videos but there are abunch of free ch puppets on their page set up the same way!
congratulations for your channel Chris, where did the reference of this character that you are using come from? Do you have a drawing that you can point me to as a reference to this or a specific style name?
Great tutorial! I have a question; when releasing the arrow keys, the character snaps back to the standing pose which looks to the left of the screen. What if I need the character to walk to the right of the screen then stand with its face looking to the right?
great video. but when I go to the rig tab in the software I can not find the properties panel as you have it in the write of the screen. what should I do?
My issue when tag the character with the walk behavior is the behavior tags the head turns inside my group as views. So I have to remove the headtags or I have to put the walk behavior directly on the body
Thank you so much. I get so stressed out with this. I'm making a few characters now for my show and I get so anxious that I avoid starting. I'm interested to see how you import everything into after effects and start editing. I guess I don't understand how it works. For example: say I make a character walking for a few seconds. Do I "record" that in character animator and then save it, export it, and import that specific file into after effects? Do I then import another file of him standing and keep copying and pasting those files in the timeline below?
Hey, happy the video helps. Depending on what you want, but yes, mostly like the way you describe. The beginning of this video for example is character animator-puppet walking (.mov with alpha) and then cutting to the fall animation (a png-sequence with alpha) on top of backgrounds drawn in photoshop. Just walking and then into standing I would record as one take in Ch though as the transition from walk to stand looks pretty good. Hard to answer such a big question in one comment but it mostly boils down to knowing what software works best at what, exporting the files with alpha and sewing them together in Ae.
@@ChrisOVEMERY thank you very much for your detailed answer. It's kind of funny how your story about creating an original cartoon worked out. I was the exact opposite. At the 10:14 part of the video, after adding the cycles, I went into record mode and my character disappeared. Idk what happened. The rig is still in tact, but not showing in record mode.
How do you fix your character begin able to walk but not showing up when just standing? Like my character will walk but it won’t show up if I’m not using he arrow keys

Mainly for walking, standing, basic gestures and talking. You CAN punch. You CAN sit down, but I dont think it looks very good and personally tend to do that in other software.
