I just came here after reading an article of how animators are struggling to get right pay from studios. Now after watching your video I can see their perspective very clearly. If such a short film took such a long time and effort, can't imagine how tough it is to make those action animes. Truly amazing work and kudos to all animators for making amazing art. And great explanation on the process.
in case u still haven't started photoshop is best place for animation. second best krita, third best blender grease pencil. although grease pencil is actually 1000times better than Psd and krita if you know how to do it right way because grease pencil is complicated. but best software for experts good luck with your project
@@theeddytor3490 Photoshop is for stills. Can you illustrate (pun intended) what you mean by best place for animation? Why wouldn't Adobe Animate be...since...it's....well, in the name?

I agree! I just jumped straight into making one and it took me 7 months but at least I can say I finish my first short film now and I am proud but yeah I will definelty be taking the advice from this video for future projects
For the free animation programs I recommend Blender. I'm using the Grease pencil option for 2D animation, but you can also mix it with 3D if it's needed. I do most of my concept sketches in Krita because I'm used to raster based sketching since Grease pencil is basically working with vectors/vertices but you could do it all in Blender too(I do this out of habit probably). Krita also has animation workspace but I haven't tried it only because I got used to Blender first. (I have some short animations on my channel all done in Blender (・ω
Opentoonz is another great option for anyone looking into free programs made for 2d specifically! It has character rigs, tweening, raster AND vector layers, lots of special effects, and more! Its what I use to animate all my vids :D (except for my one blender one lol)

Great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it and sharing your insights. Blender's 2D animation pipeline "Grease Pencil" is pretty robust lately. Obviously blender is free and open source so massive save there.
