I remember when I first heard this song. I had the cd on in the car and was giving a friend a lift. They were talking away and this song caught my attention so I abruptly told them to shut up. He thought he had upset me 😆
I am from the U.S... this album & song came out when I traveled to Australia to be with someone. That someone ended up taking everything I had and leaving to be with someone else in Tasmania. All I had to comfort me were a couple of friends I made at work & housemates (I'm extremely grateful for them!). And this album helped to get me through so much. I'd listen to it on repeat as I slept, or tried to sleep. I remember feeling strong until certain songs like Scalpel and Choke made me realize I needed to just fucking let it out and cry like a baby.
This song has always reminded of when I was 20 years old. I did the midnights grind for years and tried to give her the best life I could... But it never was enough for her. I will never let anyone come before me again. The higher on the mantle you put them the harder the fall. Thank you for the music ✊

Layne once told Jerry he had the ability to sing and should. The dynamic is now Jerry lead on most with Will harmonizing. Kinda like what Jerry did with Layne. Will does Layne parts in the old stuff because Jerry has his roles in those songs and I think it would sound discombobulated if Jerry did Layne parts and Will did Jerrys parts. I donwish Will was more prominent but I also believe that they are trying to show that Layne was replaced so to speak but that they are just carrying on. Either way I love all their music old and new.
@@jtough7499 A lot of the reason why William does Layne's parts in the old songs live is because Jerry can't hit the really high notes like Layne could whereas William can
@@zaydjawad3653 Jerry sings with power, just very rarely in a live scenario. A good example is All I Am, which has never been performed live. Another good example is the high notes in the verses of The One You Know, which he did great in the studio version but not so good live (it's clearly right at the top of his range). He sings with power on Breath on a Window (another track that was never performed live). Personally I think William should only sing for the parts that are out of Jerry's range, as Jerry has a way nicer voice to listen to otherwise.
One of AIC’s most underrated songs!
One of my favorites

@@neilmartin3220 Never interrupt an AIC song.
Everything on TH-cam is underrated.
Do you realize how great a drummer Sean Kinney is?!
Damn Jerry sings really nicely here especially in the chorus. William harmonizes very nicely too. Awesome track
No question the best band that came out of the 90's. Jerry is the most underrated musician of all time.
Oh my god I didn’t even know they did this song at the guitar center session… so good
One of the most underrated songs… so damn good
Such a beautiful and sad song. Jerry's performance is stellar here
This song is so emotional. Just hearing it in this live version, gives me goosebumps.
In studio version, it's a trigger to cry a river.
This song.... Jerry's Voice!!! Amazing!!!
Thank you, AIC. So grateful I'm not in this situation.

Best post Layne Staley AIC album.
Fuck, this hits very hard my friend.
Can't stop playing. So sad.
With time it became my favorite AIC song... Amazing lyrics.
The tightness of this amazes me
Thanks for the upload. Makes me think about when my mom kicked me out of home. I've forgiven her but I feel it's a wound that will never fully heal
It's okey brother, healing or not, build yourself stronger from your experience, and better it for your offspring
You should have done right....im sure she gave you plenty of chances

Got put out by my mom at 19 with no education, no money, and no skill set at the time. I feel you brother. We're okay now but it left a scar.

I was in tears. One of the many underrated songs from my favorite Band of ALL time.
This is sooo good
Simply amazing all the way around..
I cried a lot because of the beauty of this song. I'd love to hear this song by Layne Staley but Jerry Cantrell...His voice like blessed.

I always thought the post Layne Staley AIC wasn't going to be worth listening to. I was wrong.
Holy shit I never knew Jerry started the lead vocal on this one
How am I just now finding this??
que padre que subiste esta rola en sesion es mi favorita de ese album.
I love this song as much as it reminds me of years of hurt and the nightmare of my marriage

I just wonder if William was the lead singer here, how would it sound? I think he should be the lead singer.

take where you are for the devil
maybe to evolve.
but the devil for where you are?
good luck.
As a bassist, I love Inez. But here, I don't like that bass tone... Too much distorted for kind of a song..
This is one of his nicest basslines, but you are right it should have more of a clean tone here, to match the rest of the instruments
They rocked this whole guitar center show. One of the best bands ever and still kickin ass today
Hey Mike friends don't let friends get friends haircuts. Just joking Jerry
