Abbys determination for revenge basically cost her everything. She gained nothing from killing Joel, and only got everyone she cared about killed murdered because of it.
I don't think she regretted it. Remember it was her father who was murdered by Joel. Her mission of revenge had strong support and she saw it through aided by the idea that her dad was on the cusp of saving humanity.

They took a man's now adoptive daughter away from him at gunpoint to maybe find a cure that they have no means of distributing, all without even asking Ellie. They thought themselves as saviours but were in many ways as bad as those governing the surviving cities and outposts. They brought their ultimate fate on themselves, and they knew how dangerous Joel was and still just decided to escort out of the building rather than shooting him. They were doomed to fail.

The only one I felt pity for was Owen. He seemed like the most grounded one out of all of them. The others were either psychopaths or cowards such as Mel.

A vaccine that wouldn’t stop people from dying by the infected, or cure the infected. The vaccine might save lives but it would not save humanity. But the fireflies would’ve killed her then and there to manufacture a vaccine which probably wouldn’t have been deployed worldwide. That would somehow makes the game somewhat redeemable but that’s not what they want you to have. They don’t want the players to be able to make a choice which is really strange in this type of game.
If they did a telltale walking dead scenario where you can choose and shows what percentage of people chose to kill or spare Abby I guarantee it would be a 99% for killing Abb. The other 1% is accidental button presses

The fireflies were bad people, killers, terrorists, thiefs and in this game they are trying to romanticize them, the fireflies were awful people and they deserved to die by the hand of joel.
They were stupid people too, part 2 they deliberately leave out the fact in the first game they did find people immune to the virus from the audio recordings but died during trials. And Marlene was power hungry too.

First of all, we just see fireflies in the end of the game. We never or see them in the mid game or early game, just in the end. Second, fireflies could make a cure to this outbreak but because Joel's jealousy there won't be any cure

Letting Abby live after all this is not a satisfying conclusion by any means. It would have been better if she followed through.

The fact that Ellie didn't manage to kill Abby in the end is one of the most heartbreaking and realistic things in this game. She didn't do it because all this time, more than revenge, she was looking for a culprit. Someone on whom she could pour out all the distress she feels since the loss of Joel. But this hatred ended up eating away at her from the inside and destroyed the one Joel loved like his child. And because she realized that it would never bring him back, she didn't kill Abby. Because otherwise, it would mean that she's definitely no longer Joel's beloved daughter. And because of that, Ellie understood that the person she was most angry with was not Abby for killing Joel, but her for not being able to save her father. What a heartbreaking moral.
They did not show David's face after getting slashed by Ellie with a machete but showed Joel's face clubbed. So Joel is worse than a pedophile? WTF logic
If you really think about it, they most likely didn't show Nora's death because she's a black character. If we actually got to see Ellie smashing her skull to a pulp, there would be complaints about TLOU2 being racist. That being said, I'm black and I wouldn't have been offended by seeing Nora's death uncensored; Lord knows, this game has enough negative controversy as it is.
You got to admit that those guys have to team up to take Joel out and talk high mighty about it (talking about Nora) but Joel fought his way through the hospital by himself to get Eille.

Using cutscenes and dialogue to expand the characters and their motives works, but they didn't do that. I feel bad for ellie, she never forgave joel face to face, but that just made it sadder not accepting an apology from a person who is already deceased will linger in your heart forever. But joel was like a father figure to her, so just the feeling not being able to apologize to your parents is already hurting me from the inside.

Or, look at it this way, if Tommy hadn't put up such resistance in the first game, maybe he would have taken Ellie off Joel's hands. Maybe he would have let Ellie die for the cure. You can't say it's all his fault, but his decisions certainly shaped the story in more ways than one.
From saving the world to futile revenge storyline. From a surviving beast to trusting a couple of strangers. Joel survived a TANK, a HOSPITAL OF FIREFLY SOLDIERS, the INFECTED TUNNELL, a SNIPER from far range and killing him with MELEE etc. It was bad to have high expectations :(

Abby is unforgettable she killed my favorite character and main character in last of us 1 he lost his daughter he saved allie’s life cause he felt something wrong at the end he was a hero even if he didn’t give the vaccine to everybody he went through the roughest path no one can replace that man plus his brother was a nice guy, Allie killed people for smaller things but she didn’t kill her right then and there which didn’t give me the satisfaction that I needed to get from a ending
To be honest, it’s weird to me how she could kill Abby’s friends but not the one who killed Joel herself. Maybe it was because she wanted Abby to feel the same hurt she felt when Abby had killed Joel but even if that were true, she despised Abby. The entire gameplay after Joel’s death is Ellie trying to find Abby by traveling around and killing people in her way. Yet in the end, she looses everything and doesn’t kill the girl who brought her the most hurt. And as she travels once again to find Abby, leaving Dina behind with their child, she doesn’t kill her. She returns to find her farm house completely abandoned. Dina left. She lost everything. She’s alone. I’m not sure what the game is trying to prove here or what the overall theme is but this is my perspective.

I could have understood your point at least a bit if Abby or one of her friends at least explained to Ellie why they did that, but they didn't and Ellie finds it all out only much later in the game when it's too late to stop. That bitch even has the nerve to act like Ellie and the members of her group should be thankful that they spared their lives. Revenge itself is not dumb if done right, even if it won't bring anything to the avenger in the end.

I see what they were trying to do here, and it COULD have worked so well. The thing is, for this kind of "grey" conflict to occur, the player, or viewer has to care about people on BOTH sides of the conflict. After Abby killed Joel, what they needed to do was expand on Abby's character a LOOOOT. After killing such a beloved character, the writers needed to expand on her a lot, make her a likable person, and really let us see things truly from her perspective so that we could see why she would legitimately want to kill Joel. We needed to see her in the light a lot more. And honestly get a lot more time with her. And it needed to be written very well, so that we would start to care about her, and make us actually feel bad for her, as well as Ellie. Expand on the other people in her crew too. Show them in a different light. Show them being good people, caring about each other truly. Don't write so many of them to be such assholes, because that just makes them irredeemable, and thus the player then has no reason to care about them when they die, and thus the entire purpose of a grey conflict is destroyed. It's clear that the game wanted us to care about Abby on some level. The problem was that they gave us no reason to do so, the didn't give us ANY insight on her as a person, and she never seemed like a good person to begin with. If they wrote her and her crew a lot better, and actually made the players legitimately care about them as people, this game would be so much better, and the conflict so much more engaging, and emotionally powerful. And after having done everything I just said, give the player a choice at the end, to either spare Abby, or kill her. Imagine how much better that would've been.
Completely agree bro, I know Joel has done many horrible things in his life, but the difference with him is that we learned about his past, his feelings, his fears and sadness, we learned why he did all those things and why he closed his heart to the suffering of others. We understood why he choose to kill the fireflies and save Ellie. Theres not such backstory for Abby, wich makes it difficult to empathize with her. Manny's death was probably one of the more satisying ones for me, right up there with Nora. Nora was a coward, who was only 'strong' behind others. The reason Manny getting killed was so satisfying was because he was basically nothing more than a cheerleader in Abby's cause. While Owen felt for her need for revenge, and supported a certian amount of retribution, he wasn't cut from the same cloth as Manny. The way he spits on Joel in some lame show of support, as though he did something unforgiving to Manny's family. Not even Abby spat on Joel.

So many people show nothing but hate for Abby and her friends. Yet I just imagine a timeline where Abby is Ellie and Ellie is Abby. We show love and care for the ones we witness and played as first but not for Abby who lost her father and her people who lost the hope of a cure. It’s a really funny and messed up world we live in.

This could've been salvaged if we had gotten to decide what happened to the others. Like with the pregnant woman, sparing her would make sense and would be an interesting way of showing that Ellie isn't completely evil. But no, we were just forced to spare the one person we were genuinely invested in killing.

Anybody remember that Family Guy episode where Quagmire's sister is married to an abusive arsehole who beats her and it gets so bad that Quagmire, Peter, and Joe - an actual police officer - all agree to kill the bastard? I feel like this is the kind of game that would try to make excuses for his behaviour and want us to empathise with him.
She didn't kill abby so abby will forever live on the fact all her friends died and regret killing Joel. Also Ellie won. Tommy Dina still alive while Abby has no more
Abby had all her reasons to kill Joel, she won't regret it and I understand why she did it. Imagine if it was your father, the only man in the world who could create a cure btw, who got killed by one man and that man doomed humanity? You would easily be like Abby. Joel is no hero, he is the villain. Abby is inside a good person in difficult circumstances. Also, she and Lev is going to have a sister/brother relationship, so she still got something. No one really won. Ellie literally is the one who lost everything, not Abby lol. You totally missed that part. Tommy will never forgive Ellie for letting Abby go, and Dina is just gone, packed her stuff and left revengefilled and hateful Ellie behind.
What murder is the most satisfying here? Which one do you think quells Ellie's rage the most?

I don't think she regretted it. Remember it was her father who was murdered by Joel. Her mission of revenge had strong support and she saw it through aided by the idea that her dad was on the cusp of saving humanity.

They took a man's now adoptive daughter away from him at gunpoint to maybe find a cure that they have no means of distributing, all without even asking Ellie. They thought themselves as saviours but were in many ways as bad as those governing the surviving cities and outposts. They brought their ultimate fate on themselves, and they knew how dangerous Joel was and still just decided to escort out of the building rather than shooting him. They were doomed to fail.
This is like John Wick going after the mob and not shooting the guy who killed his dog
But imagine the story half way through the guy who killed his dog is the main character for the rest of the film

The fact that Ellie didn't manage to kill Abby in the end is one of the most heartbreaking and realistic things in this game. She didn't do it because all this time, more than revenge, she was looking for a culprit. Someone on whom she could pour out all the distress she feels since the loss of Joel. But this hatred ended up eating away at her from the inside and destroyed the one Joel loved like his child. And because she realized that it would never bring him back, she didn't kill Abby. Because otherwise, it would mean that she's definitely no longer Joel's beloved daughter. And because of that, Ellie understood that the person she was most angry with was not Abby for killing Joel, but her for not being able to save her father. What a heartbreaking moral.

Or, look at it this way, if Tommy hadn't put up such resistance in the first game, maybe he would have taken Ellie off Joel's hands. Maybe he would have let Ellie die for the cure. You can't say it's all his fault, but his decisions certainly shaped the story in more ways than one.

Abby is unforgettable she killed my favorite character and main character in last of us 1 he lost his daughter he saved allie’s life cause he felt something wrong at the end he was a hero even if he didn’t give the vaccine to everybody he went through the roughest path no one can replace that man plus his brother was a nice guy, Allie killed people for smaller things but she didn’t kill her right then and there which didn’t give me the satisfaction that I needed to get from a ending
To be honest, it’s weird to me how she could kill Abby’s friends but not the one who killed Joel herself. Maybe it was because she wanted Abby to feel the same hurt she felt when Abby had killed Joel but even if that were true, she despised Abby. The entire gameplay after Joel’s death is Ellie trying to find Abby by traveling around and killing people in her way. Yet in the end, she looses everything and doesn’t kill the girl who brought her the most hurt. And as she travels once again to find Abby, leaving Dina behind with their child, she doesn’t kill her. She returns to find her farm house completely abandoned. Dina left. She lost everything. She’s alone. I’m not sure what the game is trying to prove here or what the overall theme is but this is my perspective.
This game is trying to prove that revenge will not bring anyone back.

@Billy Bob From Ellie's perspective it doesn't matter whether they were menaces or not. Abby bashed Joel to death and the others helped her. I could have understood your point at least a bit if Abby or one of her friends at least explained to Ellie why they did that, but they didn't and Ellie finds it all out only much later in the game when it's too late to stop. That bitch even has the nerve to act like Ellie and the members of her group should be thankful that they spared their lives. Revenge itself is not dumb if done right, even if it won't bring anything to the avenger in the end.

I see what they were trying to do here, and it COULD have worked so well. The thing is, for this kind of "grey" conflict to occur, the player, or viewer has to care about people on BOTH sides of the conflict. After Abby killed Joel, what they needed to do was expand on Abby's character a LOOOOT. After killing such a beloved character, the writers needed to expand on her a lot, make her a likable person, and really let us see things truly from her perspective so that we could see why she would legitimately want to kill Joel. We needed to see her in the light a lot more. And honestly get a lot more time with her. And it needed to be written very well, so that we would start to care about her, and make us actually feel bad for her, as well as Ellie. Expand on the other people in her crew too. Show them in a different light. Show them being good people, caring about each other truly. Don't write so many of them to be such assholes, because that just makes them irredeemable, and thus the player then has no reason to care about them when they die, and thus the entire purpose of a grey conflict is destroyed. It's clear that the game wanted us to care about Abby on some level. The problem was that they gave us no reason to do so, the didn't give us ANY insight on her as a person, and she never seemed like a good person to begin with. If they wrote her and her crew a lot better, and actually made the players legitimately care about them as people, this game would be so much better, and the conflict so much more engaging, and emotionally powerful. And after having done everything I just said, give the player a choice at the end, to either spare Abby, or kill her. Imagine how much better that would've been.
Completely agree bro, I know Joel has done many horrible things in his life, but the difference with him is that we learned about his past, his feelings, his fears and sadness, we learned why he did all those things and why he closed his heart to the suffering of others. We understood why he choose to kill the fireflies and save Ellie. Theres not such backstory for Abby, wich makes it difficult to empathize with her.

We all have an issue with how he died, we all expected him to die this game but the fact his character was disrespected and killed off the way he was was a huge back-stab to all the fans and supporters of the game. He should have died protecting Ellie either from people or zombies, but we didn't even get any closure between Joel and Ellie. This was a huge middle finger to fans and I hope the TV show is done differently. After the first game being as great as it was this was the biggest video game letdown I've ever seen. So glad I didn't buy this.

Manny's death was probably one of the more satisying ones for me, right up there with Nora. Nora was a coward, who was only 'strong' behind others.
The reason Manny getting killed was so satisfying was because he was basically nothing more than a cheerleader in Abby's cause. While Owen felt for her need for revenge, and supported a certian amount of retribution, he wasn't cut from the same cloth as Manny. The way he spits on Joel in some lame show of support, as though he did something unforgiving to Manny's family. Not even Abby spat on Joel.
I still don’t like that they show Joel’s death, but they can’t show you beating Nora to death double standard.
I hate Nora for saying that Joel deserved the beating he got, she said it in a such a venomous way. I wish we could see Ellie bashes her skull..

This could've been salvaged if we had gotten to decide what happened to the others. Like with the pregnant woman, sparing her would make sense and would be an interesting way of showing that Ellie isn't completely evil. But no, we were just forced to spare the one person we were genuinely invested in killing.
