*THANK YOU ALL!* So many kind comments here - I mentioned this at the end of the video. What is your NEXT story? I have a ghost ship, a russian bow hunter who took revenge OR we can dive into WLF, Scars and then eventually their war - eager to hear folks!
after this the game became so much less scary. like coming out of this hospital i knew that this game couldn't possibly throw anything worse than that at me. it was liberating.
Which honestly was funny cause even though I was unaware of the Rat King, I could feel a buildup for the Rat King long before the hospital section. This entire section was tense beginning to end.
For me the worst was that i read about the Rat King by accident and spoilered myself. But i stopped reading immediatly, only knowing his name. So i was in anticipation for this enemy the entire time. It was nerve wrecking!
LeslieWithers I remember seeing the Rat King written in a comment about the game and I just left it alone, thinking it was the name of some human villain. Hooooly SHIT was I wrong
The hospital was by far the scariest part of the game. 25 year old corpses everywhere, Clickers, Hidden Stalkers and all in almost total darkness. And without question that bloody Rat King. It was horrifying and I LOVED IT.
Jop Makkar As soon as Nora said the first infected and ground zero I was like..... shit but I really like visiting areas right at the start of the appcalypse
I still think the most tense moment in the series was the hotel basement with the stalkers and bloaters in the first game. Something about it just makes it terrifying.
@@Mark-gt5uu When it comes to infected encounters I think you're right. For me, the start of Seattle Day 2 as Ellie up until Jessie goes back to the theater with Ellie is insane.
After Abby hears the rat king behind the door, I decided to use listen mode. Seeing the massive outline behind the door gave me the scare of my life. Good stuff!
I heard the gurgling sound amd I was like wtf is that? And as it comes closer to the doors, my eyes were wide and my heart was pounding. I did not wanna face this monster again. Finished the game once
That note the infected person wrote as they succumbed to their bite it was pretty sad. Even while his mind was being overcome by the infection he still wanted to see his wife one last time I think that’s the part that gets me. The notes is in this game are really really good!
It's like what Sam was saying in the first game, that are they still people under the infection? Is that runner still Jenny (for example) confused as to why she has the urge to chase and eat you?
When I first heard she say ground zero I knew some deep shit was in the making When I heard him I was terrified, I knew it wasn't a bloater But then I saw the generator, that's when I knew I fucked
You think Abby ever brought this up to like anyone? Just walking along and she’s suddenly like “Btw I fought a demon that was like many of them fused together” and Lev is just like “WTF!?”
Can you imagine being one of the infected patients that would fuse into the Rat King? Its been confirmed that the infected people can still feel and see as a runner, clicker, etc. They just have no control of their body. Imagine feeling the fungus overgrow around you for 24 years, I can understand why Sam was afraid of that.
Every advertisement was set up by one point or another. Abby finds a coin: "hey dad, look what I fou- *AD* Ellie turns to Dina:"I think you should know..." *AD* Lily spots a building in the distance:" Look! It's an..." *AD* Rounds a corner, pig snare goes off, bandits whoop and hollar: "Look boys, we found us an.." *AD*
If you go into listen mode when first attempting to open the trauma center door you can see the outline of the Rat King. It terrified me the first time I saw it
Somehow the most disturbing thing to me were those clickers fused to the wall that burst out to attack you. It’s not the jumpscare factor that gets me; it’s the thought that it’s entirely possible for those infected to adhere to walls with still-functioning bodies, only to slowly drown in those disgusting fungal growths until mobility becomes completely impossible. Christ it feels truly vile. The creators of the Last of Us really pulled off the body horror better than anyone else.
I won’t lie. If I did that the first time. I would’ve been freaked the hell out. Probably more scared than I would’ve been before the ambulance jumpscare
@@sleepywalker87 I did it on my first playtrough. I was more hyped than anything: wow he is big, doesnt seem like a bloater, nice, its probably a boss! Than when i had to run i was scared af
Yup.. Decent down the apartment building and this hospital level was the creepiest parts of the game. Those infected that jumps out from the wall gave me a few heart attacks.. Lol and then this rat king.. Wtf holy shit balls
They should make a spin off of the last of us like they did for Uncharted focusing on a character during outbreak day so we can see the true horror of people turning. Some of the enemies could be FEDRA soldiers as they're mentioned in both games. That would be a great way to fit them into a game.
That would be cool, but I think a large reason these games are so interesting is that you have to figure out what happened on your own. Using the notes and clues left behind to piece together the whole story like a detective. I feel like showing us the outbreak would remove that sense of mystery.
I think they should do this that way we can see what joel and tommy went through especially joel after he lost his daughter and him and his brother becoming hunters and fire flies, meeting tess, bill, and Marlene and Robert and this time we could play not only as joel again but as tommy too
I definitely agree! I don't think this game is as good as the supporters say nor is it as bad as the haters say but I think they could have changed some things to make it better. Abby not brutally murdering Joel would have been one of those things. I would have been fine with her doing something to directly cause his death, like trapping him in a room to get infected. They said this game was supposed to be about anger. I could feel Abby's anger throughout her story. Ellie through most of her story had almost no anger to me. I asked myself several times through the game, "Does Ellie even care?!
I wish this entire game as from Abby’s perspective and you’d think she’s Ellie’s mom or something only to reveal in the last act that she’s after Joel. The 3rd game should have been about Ellie’s revenge.
I feel like Abby should have been hunting Joel and Ellie through out the game, bringing her friends along on the dangerous mission just for him and slowly losing them one by one just revenge for killing her father. I actually would have cared for Abby if I got more time with her and experiencing the journey with her revenge story full of anger.
Definitely. There might even be some worse ones. Imagine the kind New York might have either underground or broken free and rampaging around deep city streets.
Integral Gamings idk if you remember the journal entry Ellie had in her notebook where she said “ I’m in the outskirts of Las Vegas and I can hear thousands of infected inside, trapped in the buildings, I’m going to go around.” It said something like that. What if all of those infected were all mixed up together, like a mutant. That would be really interesting to see!
@@ajaynorris3526 If this fungus can do these things to humans, it could easily mutate to do it to animals. Hell in real life it attacks bugs. I wonder why they haven't touched on that yet.
@@squirtle88 it might just be for there to be a believable way that people continued to hunt and eat animals. On the other hand I swear to god if I saw a bear bloater I wouldve out right shat myself. Could've been a great thing for the gams though and to add more variety to the infected without changing the human subjects too much.
its based off an actual thing called by the same name when a bunch of rats are stuck together by their tails and forced to move around together, usually dying pretty soon after
I think it was a missed opportunity to leave a few collectable recorders that contain logs of the staff who worked at that hospital. Just to have a better understanding of the trauma and horror that went on down there. Much like in the University level from the 1st game.
Small detail!..When Ellie was interrogating with Nora before killing her , you were actually able to hear the rat king!..Basically when Ellie was finding Abby so desperately , there was just a floor between them...
Imagine your entire life has led you to this end of becoming a pile of decaying mushrooms, hidden away forever in the darkest corner of a building, forgotten.
The Rat King could also possibly be patient zero. This means that since October 2013 in-game, this one has been under the hospital deteriorating and merging with the others. Another thing that came to mind is the fact that some mushrooms and fungi create networks underground that work faster than the internet in exchanging information. Imagine all the buildings overrun by those dormant, non-combative cordyceps that rot the buildings and release the spores. They could all be sending information to other states, which would explain the presence of shamblers and bloaters in all the states we visited in TLOU and TLOU2. As Tommy tried to explain, they move in herds to places with the perfect environment to spread much like real fungi do. Barometric pressure, humidity, sunlight, and all the other aspects that help propagate this mutated mushroom.
See this sort of thing would make for a good video. Some theory crafting, some out of game references to in world events. Instead he makes a click bait title and reads the artifacts we all found in game. So lame.
True but I think it’s stated in the first game by Tommy that the outbreak started in The South and Washington is in the Northwest, so I don’t entirely know if that theory could be plausible.
@@brycegum_221 it started in seattle but kept hidden (cuz thats always a good idea) there were many other cases happening but it started in seattle, i believe word started getting out when the south was hit
The worst part about the rat king is the infected that are fused are still alive as if they’re all individual creatures, sort of like conjoined twins, absolutely petrifying.
Stalker: We should hide behind the walls and go running at her The Rest: CHARGE Stalker: Nah man we getting our ass beat. Hide behind wall. The Rest: CHARRRRRRRGE Stalker: I really thi--- The Rest: CHARRRRRRRGE!!! Stalker: Ight im out
This whole section was AMAZING. The silence just made the build up even better. Loved the little notes, and the story behind ground zero. Awesome storytelling and gameplay.
The hospital was so stressful cause it was so quiet at first but you just knew it was building up to something terrible. Then you kept coming across the notes. Everything just building up the tension. I killed it only by panic running everywhere and shooting at it randomly when I saw it lol.
So glad this thing didn't get spoiled for me. I heard something big moving around and assumed it was probably just a Bloater, then I saw where it had torn its way free from that closed room and the path of destruction it had left and started to get a little anxious...but then it appeared in the ambulance and I was with Abby in just wanting to get the fuck away from it as quickly as possible. What gets me with it is the fact that the other Infected could detach themselves from the main body and move around on their own, as well as how fast it could move. One of my favourite segments in the whole game. Like something out of Dead Space, or another survival horror series.
@@Jirrell Agree, and as someone who as worked in ERs, they are staffed to he point that there are just enough staff to cover the normal rate of patients. If there is a big increase, they would be overwhelmed and more so if some staff left to try to reach their own families. Plus this would be a historic new disease with no information and no treatment - little they could do except contain the infected in hopes of slowing the rate of spread.
I mean what's the doctor gonna do, inject him with medicine and see if it works out better for him? I doubt doctors weren't doing anything at best they're all talking about what the hell to do as it was an emergency for a disease that none of them know anything about
@@Itried20takennames agreed, I mean, look at COVID. Our health-care workers were beyond overwhelmed and it wasn't fair to not one person in the medical field.
This part terrified me. I feel like it well known that during any monster/infection apocalypse not to go to any hospital or medical base unless you absolutely have to. I feel so sad for the people that met that terrible fate
The scariest part about the rat king and the hospital level for me is that the rat king and all of the mycelium and cordyceps growth, is that most of those infected are civilians that came there thinking they’re sick, but also the EMTs and Paramedics that transported them to the hospital as well as the hospital staff like CNAs, Nurses and Doctors that were all still probably containing in that growth as well as the rat king because we know they didn’t get out and obviously were infected and turned once the military locked them inside, and as an EMT myself I find that part the most horrifying, just to think that perhaps if something like this were to happen I’d have to be on the front lines potential unaware of my own demise
@@gruntlife5055 as an EMT did you experience something similar (of course not at the level of zombie outbreaks) during the beginning stages of COVID where people still had to go to hospitals while being infected? Very curious about your experience in real life.
Also the sad part is that these are most likely patient zero and the first ones infected, they probably didn’t even know it was a zombie/monster outbreak. Usually you see in movies/games calling the early infections as “disturbances” or “riots” because they see people going crazy and attacking but not knowing the actual reason why.
It was Sunday, 4 in the morning. Its dark both outside and inside my house. My whole family is sleeping after my parents set up a strict 12 o'clock curfew time. I decided, eh I'll risk it and plug in some headphones and sneak in a few more hours of The Last of Us Part 2 before I go to bed. Then Nora leads me down to the lower levels and my god it was frightening. The atmosphere of the place, filled with fungus all over the floors and walls. I constantly aimed my pistol at the walls in case some embedded stalker pops out. I was on edge the whole time, scavenging for supplies, not knowing what was right around the corner. And the whole time I had to stay as quiet as possible in my house. I turn on the electricity, kill the clickers, and make my way to the ambulance car. By that point I could hear every single click, every single screech of the infected from before with my headset. The darkness outside my window helped engulf me into the world of TLOU and I was beyond ready to leave this place. Abby approaches the vehicle and finds the medicine. "Finally lets get the hell outta here" I thought to myself. Then I heard it. The heavy, booming footsteps of something massive. Something disgusting. Something ancient. Something that was down here for over 2 decades, even older than me. The car shook and Abby with it. Something appeared in front of her. The light slowly rises up to reveal the ugliest goddamn thing I've seen in my life. The Rat King. Bodies upon bodies glued together by the fungus leaping straight towards me with incredible speed. At this point no one has seen anything like it before. I was used to killing regular infected and clickers on the outside, among the lush and colorful greenery. But every single infected I encountered down there was utterly so much more terrifying because of how well they set up the atmosphere. So when I saw the King of all infected, you bet your ass I shat myself and ran as fast as I could through the doors to search for a way out. In the end I just chucked pipe bombs at it until it died but man was that an experience I won't forget. The simple timing of me having to play it so carefully and quietly at 4 in the morning along with the great level and atmosphere design by Naughty Dog made this moment truly one to remember.
Kid you need to write for a living reading this was so much more satisfying than anything this video had to offer including actually seeing the putrid beast that is the rat king
The creepiest part of when I played this was when I would try and open a door, walk off, look around, loot some stuff, then hear the patter of footsteps, turn around and see the doors opened. One time, I walked away from a red door, then when I look back, its been completely forced open and crushed, and a trail of blood leads into it. I presume that door in specific was opened by the Rat King. But the rest wrre just as creepy.
Yeah okay that literally never happens except for this one scripted event when you turn the power on it’s not like it magically opened right behind your back you’re in a whole other room when it’s torn open
1:30 Lmao I was like “did naughty dog employ VGS to do v/o’s for TLOU2?” Nah. My dude just wanted some sound-effects continuity. Love that realism, dude.
I would volunteer to voice act this. According to my friends I can fake scream so well it actually legitimately sounds like as if my arm had been torn off.
At first when playing as Abby I couldn’t wait to just get back to being Ellie but she really grew on me and her story was amazing. This part just topped it off for me
The person who mercilessly battered Joel’s face in while his daughter figure screams in the background grew on you? Well, it’s because of viewers/players like this who are easily fooled into sympathizing for a character because they play fetch with a dog or take care of two kids that we’ll get more ridiculous games like this in the future 🤦♂️
@@miiketookit oh geez, Joel killed her father, was it right to torture him?, no, but if someone killed your loved one wouldn't you want revenge?, I played with an unbiased attitude and honestly couldn't blame Abby for feeling the way she did. @melissadavis453 we haven't seen if it's possible for animals, specifically mammals to get infected. The next game could show us infected bears and cougars that have been infected for decades.
@melissadavis453 it also might not be possible. In the first game there's lab monkeys that were experimented on but didn't turn. They were "carriers" of the cordycep virus and bit the scientist and infected him. I read that's cuz monkeys have eaten cordycep ants in their natural habitats so they evolved a certain immunity. So it's possible other animals aren't immune in the same way
Dude the fact that you recorded all these letters (I'm assuming with your own voice or an editors. Cause I don't think you can hear them in the game?) Shows great dedication. Thank you for this video. You've earned a sub on the first video I've ever watched.
Judging by the relative lack of enemies in the area I figured they were "saving me" for something big. After I heard the growl after I tried to open the door before I activated the power and went in listen mode and I saw this huge mass behind the door I was like wtf was that?? Lol
Brilliant video man. This was the most tense part of the story for me - as soon as Nora leaves you and you begin to venture down there by yourself, you knew you was about to play through the most horrifying part of the game. I really love the letters/notes in this game as well, they really paint a picture of things that have happened and give you so much back story. Would be great if you could do a video on the crashed ship - that was probably my favourite part of the game and had so much backstory to the events of what happened on board.
i loved it, but the ellie flashbacks are the best parts of the game, they really give me nostalgia of tlou1

I also really enjoyed the notes leading up to Boris and how you end up fighting him in the end. Or that the first time you hear of Isaac was almost way back at Fk Fedra Gate.
After 3 years I played this game a second time. This go around on survival when I tell you this part was stressful on harder difficulties. Every time you see an ammo box it has 1 bullet. After playing this a second with the emotion of the game long gone you really appreciate how great a game this was and how it released like right on time in my opinion.
For all the hate that Abby gets, she also ended up getting the best boss fights/encounters in the game. At least, that's how I see it. Edit: I'm pleasantly surprised by the amount of genuine open-mindedness in the comment thread that I unintentionally started.
She has the best parts when it comes to infected, Ellie's story is more against humans. I honestly loved the game and the 2 different types of gameplays and I personally learned to like Abby even though I hated her intensely at first
She would of had a terrible fate also if Ellie hadn't helped her out in the end, I didn't even know which she was hanging. I literally approach 3 other bodies before finally getting her off
The hate is misguided and nonsensical. Abey did Joel dirty, yes, but Joel killed her dad and numerous friends. She’s a flawed human who went on a revenge mission but same goes for Ellie and Tommy. Her character is well written, well acted and completely convincing. Don’t even get me started on the people complaining about her physique, people need to question why it should offend them to see a muscular female who doesn’t fit into their gender stereotypes. It’s pathetic.
@@blacklava4978 I actually like Abby, yes the hate is mostly misplaced, but with how they did Joel and Ellie dirty while introducing us to Abby, is like spitting in the face of those who wanted to see more of Ellie and Joel bonding like a family as it was PROMISED and IMPLIED in all of the trailers, correct me if i'm wrong but i've never even heard of Abby and how she was introduced just poured a lot of hate at her with how out of context and unlikeable she was, with how out of character Joel, Ellie, Tommy and the rest are, you can understand why people hate Abby considering she was given way more attention and care, TL;DR Joel and Ellie got done dirty, Abby took a bullet, Writing is forced and unfocused with constant flashbacks, Abby should have received more attention in interviews and in Trailers.
Hands down one of the most interesting settings for a game like this. Going to ground zero where the first outbreaks began sounds so mysterious and intriguing, and to find out that the rat king was what formed inside of the first outbreak containment is even cooler. Definitely an underrated boss in my opinion, the setting and atmosphere are amazing, and finishing the fight really does leave you with a feeling of exhaustion and badassness. I really think that in a year this game is gonna be looked upon in better light, Abby did not deserve the hate she got, she was an interesting take on a character and her development and connection with the player as a character is fantastic. I went from hating Abby to understanding her, and cheering with her whenever we got out of some of the brutal shit she has to go through. Last of Us 2 is a very misunderstood game, and it's a shame considering how much time was spent on it just to have crybaby fans who didn't even allow themselves to understand why Abby isnt necessarily good or bad in the same way that Ellie is neither good nor bad. Both kill, neither for pleasure, but for what they believe is right.
@SUNALESŐ Exactly thank you, so many people miss the fact that both characters in the end contributed to breaking the chain of revenge they both created.
She doesn't kill for pleasure? When Ellie said Dina was pregnant, Abby smiled and said good. Before getting ready to slit her throat. Lev saved Dina and Ellie. Abby deserves to die. Unequivicaly. Don't let the game manipulate you from the facts. She killed Tommy (thought she did) and jesse without hesitation. Ellie didn't want to, it was in self defence or absolute rage.
You say that like Ellie didn't push her to that point, the fact that she spared Dina is a miracle considering how fucked up she probably was emotionally. Ellie and Tommy both wiped out all of her closest friends, which included a pregnant lady and also a dog. At that point in the game from Abby's point of view she actually took the highroad, of course this also has to do with Lev but that was his job the whole game to return humanity to Abby. Everything Abby did at the theater was to finish the whole thing and she would have done it with only killing one person. When your playing a game thats trying to be as realistic as possible in terms of character writing you have to be able to think of them as real people for a moment and get on their level emotionally.

The photo of the mo-cap performers strapped together to capture the Rat King’s movement shows how committed they were, how endlessly innovative the studio continues to be. It’s truly the stuff of nightmares. I watched my 21-year-old daughter during her first play-through, and as the supplies ramped up, the levels of cordyceps increased, and the generator cane online, she kept shouting, “Dad? Dad! DAD!” while all I could do was watch, knowing what was coming. When she beat it, breathless, shaken, and giddy, she said, “That was the best buildup and boss fight I’ve ever played.” The only saving grace for me during my first time is that the Rat King reminded me of the Titan-infused Joker at the end of Arkham Asylum. That thought kept me from losing my mind and/or s***. lol
@@IntrusiveThoughts838 Hahaha! Good one! Yeah, what were they thinking with her, anyway? I mean, she grew up as a Firefly with a prominent father who embodied the light that the Fireflies stood for. She had a lifelong friendship and flirtation with a Firefly soldier boy. She was exactly what Riley was hoping to be when she jumped ship to join the Fireflies - Abby lived the life Ellie would had if she and Riley hadn't been bitten. At the height of their purpose, when Ellie was found and her father could save the world, a rampaging murderer kills Abby's father, their purpose, and her community. Joel destroyed everything she knew and loved. She stays with a group of friends and finds the WLF. It's not their group, and they care nothing for the ongoing conflict with the Saraphites, but it's a solid community where they can feel safe, contribute, and move on with their lives. But Abby can't move on. For four years she trains to be ready to exact her revenge, all the while tracking leads, getting discouraged. Because of her obsession, she loses her relationship with Owen, much like Ellie did with Dina. But they stay together, loosely, and still have her back when they find Joel's location. Abby begins the game where Ellie ends it. She exacts her revenge and is left without a purpose. This is just as the Isaac is ramping up the WLF to full-sale slaughter the Saraphites, a fight she never felt connected to. She rejects it and focuses on the truer purpose of helping Yara and Lev. Meanwhile, she doesn't know anything about Ellie's mission. I loved that about the game, that the first time Abby hears that something is happening is when she and Manny are trying to take down Tommy. It barely registers - she's focused on getting to Lev on the island. The image of her rowing away with Lev from the burning carnage was one my favorites from all of gaming. It was Abby renouncing the fight and emerging from it with the heart of the game in Lev. She let Ellie live in Jackson. She let Ellie live in the theater. She leaves after Ellie gives up in Santa Barbara. She recognizes herself in Ellie and refuses to kill her. She is done with fighting. Yeah, what were they thinking with this girl? I love Abby. I couldn't wait to get back to her storyline in my second play-through. It amazes me when none of this is interesting to players, but I get it. I've played games that other people think are masterpieces and gotten bored or turned off. But to say that they didn't write an interesting or likable character in Abby perplexes me.
@@ChadMichaelSimon At first I thought I'd be reading another comment bashing the game and Abby. Then I read the whole comment and I couldn't agree more. You summed up everything pretty well and I wish more people that played this game would read this nice little text you wrote.

The thing is though. Who was the FIRST ever infected? Like not just the US, like the FIRST infected ever recorded. How did the infection affect him/her and how did they try and treat it, which obviously didn't work. It's so fascinatingly to speculate about what happened to the world outside of the US.
@Crazy Bubuska This whole Outbreak started because of South America's food supply becoming tainted with the Cordyceps fungus. So Patient Zero is somewhere in South America, and it's possible they themselves is a Rat King.

@@Olivia_220 I'm more surprised that Abby wasn't fucking traumatised by it. I know, she has killed hundreds of other infected like clickers, bloaters, etc. But if I was her, and killed all them infected and saw and encountered THE RAT KING I would genuinely be traumatised. I guess she is used to it, since literally nothing surprises her.
Just did this. Killed it with a gun. Out of shotguns and flamethrower or even explosives. Applause for ND, this is the most traumatic yet fun gameplay i've ever experienced in my life. The Last of Us Part II, get ready for game of the year.
The Rat King idea most likely came from the film “The Thing” with Kurt Russell. To this day one of my favourite films. Brilliant special effects for its time.
The rat king is from the nutcracker the story of which being the princess sent the nutcracker to get something that would cure what ails her but the rat king got in the way so the nutcracker had to kill him.
Ratking is also the name of a phenomenon when a bunch of rats get their tails tangled together and are forced to crawl around lika a big nasty rat lump until they starve to death. Probably where they got the idea from.
Abby is such an incredible character. It’s sad that people are blinded by their hatred for her to see just how amazing she really is. Also, if Joel killed my dad, I’d go after him too. She was completely justified in avenging her dad.
Exactly like Joel didn't have to kill her father at all just hurt him or something. You were able to see how Jerry was scared so with few words and injured leg he would've just give Ellie to him. I love Joel but it was his fault all of this happend....
Because what ND had did to Joel and with Abby killed Joel, it split the Fanbase in half. Look, I get it, Abby wanted Justice for her father, but Since throughout the first game Ellie and Joel had bonded to a father and daughter relationship. Unfortunately , I'm with the other half, hopefully in the third game, Ellie Kills Abby for Justice for Joel.
@@GeneralWestern17 Do you not realize how hypocritical that is? Abby killed Joel because Joel killed her father. Why does Jerry not deserve justice but Joel does? That doesn't make any sense.
@@GeneralWestern17 Abby had no idea Ellie and Joel were close like that, maybe until Ellie showed up after she had already pretty much beaten him to death. Even then she still is probably mostly in the dark. Just like how Joel had no idea the doctor he killed to save Ellie had a daughter. In Abby’s mind, this random man came in, killed a bunch of soldiers, killed her father, and then took their one chance at making a vaccine for humanity away from them. It’s completely understandable why Abby views Joel as the bad guy. She doesn’t know what we know about Ellie and Joel, since she is an outsider. Just like the audience and Ellie were when she killed Joel. Outsiders, oblivious to the pain and trauma behind everything that caused her to commit such a heinous act of revenge. Which then causes the same exact thing to repeat with Ellie. Who goes on her own heinous revenge plot. Killing people who weren’t entirely involved in it. But we get to see Abby’s side of the story and understand why she did what she did, and how bad it affected her. We get to see how she is similar to Ellie in ways. And how in the end they’re both broken girls who lost their fathers and everything else near and dear to them. We get to see how they’re not so different after all.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA "Abby follows the destruction of this beast to an eventual ambulance, that has her needed medicine, when this happens." *cue ad for KFC that begins with a couple opening their oven to discover their completely charred dinner* Knowing what she finds before watching this video, the timing of that ad couldn't have been more hilarious!
I wish I had flamethrower fuel at that moment lmao..I was playing on moderate and barely found any, moderate can be tough sometimes when you get into fights like with the Rat King...ran out of ammo mid-fight and had to panic grab some in the dark while running for my life..scariest boss fight in a while
I just realize that when you first start playing as Abby, when Manny, Abby and Mel are all talking about those kids, Abby coldly says that got what they deserved for working with the scars. But later she ends up saving two, and traveling VERY high to get a medical supply kit for Yara. When Yara is shot, the first thing she does is step in front of Lev, pointing out that he's just a kid. The Abby from a couple months ago would not have cared about these Scar kids. And even when they get jumped by those people at the end, the first thi ng she says is to not touch Lev. She cares about Lev to the point where she'd DIE for him. He has become her life now.
Wish they had more of this in the game, they really should've went all out with the infection and made multiple bosses and different infected enemy types
Yea I've played the game and I've watched 3 playthroughs, if you think dogs and shamblers is enough content then you should have higher expectations from a game that took 7+ years to make.
@@pieck5460 Yeah it seems like these guys forgot that The Last Of Us 1 was all about the infected. The infected really take a place on the back burner in this game.
I just finished the game, and the Rat King was one of the more terrifying enemies to deal with! It was fun listening to you voice the written dialog of those letters in this video, which you performed well, and put some different sound quality EQ to blend it with the environment. Thanks for the insight!
It was disappointing that they gave Abby this SUSPENSEFUL fight almost as if they knew that Ellie probably couldn’t handle anything like this... Abby got all of the intense encounters and it’s like the Devs gave her all of the best sections because they knew we’d hate her. But after a while I fell in love with Abby’s character
We need a Lore about this Hospital on Outbreak Day, about Don Carter and the Fedra Crews who kept getting overrun by those hordes in the basement around the early days!

I would say you're right..but if there is going to be a pt.3 then......lmao
For me the worst was that i read about the Rat King by accident and spoilered myself. But i stopped reading immediatly, only knowing his name. So i was in anticipation for this enemy the entire time. It was nerve wrecking!
LeslieWithers I remember seeing the Rat King written in a comment about the game and I just left it alone, thinking it was the name of some human villain. Hooooly SHIT was I wrong
And then Ellie had her fingers bitten off
The hospital was by far the scariest part of the game.
I like the hospital, but I hate this final fight tho
@Yeshuas Return There's an abandoned mall in the first game's DLC.
@@Mark-gt5uu When it comes to infected encounters I think you're right. For me, the start of Seattle Day 2 as Ellie up until Jessie goes back to the theater with Ellie is insane.
They really went above and beyond to make this thing look disgusting

Also the room where it was trapped looks disgusting

I actually think the Shambler is way more disgusting than this, it triggers my mild trypophobia.
That is terrifying. Kudos to ND for using real-life occurrences to come up with memorable enemies.

That note the infected person wrote as they succumbed to their bite it was pretty sad. Even while his mind was being overcome by the infection he still wanted to see his wife one last time I think that’s the part that gets me. The notes is in this game are really really good!

You think Abby ever brought this up to like anyone? Just walking along and she’s suddenly like “Btw I fought a demon that was like many of them fused together” and Lev is just like “WTF!?”
They probably encountered a gross clicker one day and Lev was like “that was the nastiest thing I’ve ever seen” and Abby was like “cute.”

Its been confirmed that the infected people can still feel and see as a runner, clicker, etc. They just have no control of their body.

This was one of my absolute favorite parts of the game. I was genuinely horrified.

Yup.. Decent down the apartment building and this hospital level was the creepiest parts of the game. Those infected that jumps out from the wall gave me a few heart attacks.. Lol and then this rat king.. Wtf holy shit balls
My brother was scaring me even more because he was talking about what it looked like. I was just sitting there thinking wtf is gonna happen?
I literally sat outside the flaps of the containment area for like 20 minutes, because I couldn't get myself to move. Too scared.
They should make a spin off of the last of us like they did for Uncharted focusing on a character during outbreak day so we can see the true horror of people turning. Some of the enemies could be FEDRA soldiers as they're mentioned in both games. That would be a great way to fit them into a game.
But there would be no special infected since its in the early days of the outbreak
cristiansandoval47 so what? Different type of experience from tlou or tlou2.
That would be cool, but I think a large reason these games are so interesting is that you have to figure out what happened on your own. Using the notes and clues left behind to piece together the whole story like a detective. I feel like showing us the outbreak would remove that sense of mystery.
I think they should do this that way we can see what joel and tommy went through especially joel after he lost his daughter and him and his brother becoming hunters and fire flies, meeting tess, bill, and Marlene and Robert and this time we could play not only as joel again but as tommy too
Like fear th walking dead?
A lot of people don't like Abby, but I have to admit, she had some of the coolest and most intense scenes in the entire game
She'd probably be popular had they not done Joel dirty
I definitely agree! I don't think this game is as good as the supporters say nor is it as bad as the haters say but I think they could have changed some things to make it better. Abby not brutally murdering Joel would have been one of those things. I would have been fine with her doing something to directly cause his death, like trapping him in a room to get infected.
They said this game was supposed to be about anger. I could feel Abby's anger throughout her story. Ellie through most of her story had almost no anger to me. I asked myself several times through the game, "Does Ellie even care?!
Because they really want you to like Abby
I wish this entire game as from Abby’s perspective and you’d think she’s Ellie’s mom or something only to reveal in the last act that she’s after Joel. The 3rd game should have been about Ellie’s revenge.
I feel like Abby should have been hunting Joel and Ellie through out the game, bringing her friends along on the dangerous mission just for him and slowly losing them one by one just revenge for killing her father. I actually would have cared for Abby if I got more time with her and experiencing the journey with her revenge story full of anger.
The real question is could there be more “ rat kings” in areas around the world, where the circumstances are there for that to happen .
I bet there are other kinds of infected we just haven't found yet. I still feel like there are animal infected for some reason.
@@ajaynorris3526 If this fungus can do these things to humans, it could easily mutate to do it to animals. Hell in real life it attacks bugs. I wonder why they haven't touched on that yet.

What could be worse than the rat king?
@melissadavis453 we haven't seen if it's possible for animals, specifically mammals to get infected. The next game could show us infected bears and cougars that have been infected for decades.
@@Irose_YTBE okay. that's frightening to think about.
Dude the fact that you recorded all these letters (I'm assuming with your own voice or an editors. Cause I don't think you can hear them in the game?) Shows great dedication. Thank you for this video. You've earned a sub on the first video I've ever watched.
Through out the entire game, this was definitely the scariest area.
The infected hotel was spooky too, but at least you weren’t alone.
That section of the game is easily the most anxiety ridden section between both games for me. It feels like I'm playing Resident Evil or something
It even has the note of a human slowly turning into a zombie.
The developers said that this part is an homage to the resident evil franchise.
This was the first time in the last of us that made me feel like I was playing a horror game
Stay tuned
As soon as Nora said ground zero I was going 'how much ammo do I have and how much I am going to need' XD
Nora said "Ground Zero" , Me: * Crafts all the bombs I could make *
i loved it, but the ellie flashbacks are the best parts of the game, they really give me nostalgia of tlou1
She also has a much better Weapon Loadout than Ellie's
@@blacklava4978 I actually like Abby, yes the hate is mostly misplaced, but with how they did Joel and Ellie dirty while introducing us to Abby, is like spitting in the face of those who wanted to see more of Ellie and Joel bonding like a family as it was PROMISED and IMPLIED in all of the trailers, correct me if i'm wrong but i've never even heard of Abby and how she was introduced just poured a lot of hate at her with how out of context and unlikeable she was, with how out of character Joel, Ellie, Tommy and the rest are, you can understand why people hate Abby considering she was given way more attention and care,
TL;DR Joel and Ellie got done dirty, Abby took a bullet, Writing is forced and unfocused with constant flashbacks, Abby should have received more attention in interviews and in Trailers.
So true
omg, finally!
P R E A C H 🙌🏻
That entire section was amazing Abbys first few hours really felt like a survival horror
It's what the whole game should have been.

When she beat it, breathless, shaken, and giddy, she said, “That was the best buildup and boss fight I’ve ever played.”
The only saving grace for me during my first time is that the Rat King reminded me of the Titan-infused Joker at the end of Arkham Asylum. That thought kept me from losing my mind and/or s***. lol
You're a good Dad sir!
Chad-Michael Simon too bad they weren’t motivated to make a good story and a like able character named Abby
Unfortunately , I'm with the other half, hopefully in the third game, Ellie Kills Abby for Justice for Joel.

In Abby’s mind, this random man came in, killed a bunch of soldiers, killed her father, and then took their one chance at making a vaccine for humanity away from them.
