    In case anyone is wondering. an induction cooktop running on truck power would only be pulling 1.5 kw. You could run it on hi for about 4 days on a full battery. Don’t worry about cooking, it uses very little juice.

    I also took my Rivian camping a few weeks ago!
    Most of your stuff looks great!
    A few recommendations.
    Make sure you turn off your 110v outlets when you’re not using them - it drains about 5% per night even when not in use.
    Also, I would recommend getting a solid cooler like a yeti instead of a powered one. We camp in 100 degree days and the yeti will keep items cool for at least three days in that weather.
    Finally, Costco sells some black and yellow bins that fit underneath the cover that will give you significant more space for a lot less cost.
    It looks like your cage plus cover ran you close to $800 - you could get away with $20. However, if you need a lot of stuff, maybe that cage is key.

    • @scottlunt7904
      @scottlunt7904 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info Rohit! If you have specific products that you would recommend, please let me know. The cage is expensive, for sure, but it was necessary to get all of the camping gear in. The bed was full of other stuff (including a bike). I'll be playing around with other configs and would love to find the cheapest options that work well.

    Your truck and setup is awesome! I watched your truck on TFL when it smoked all others. Would love to purchase this truck or the F150 Lighting but I’m pulling a travel trailer. Ordered a F150 Hybrid Powerboost but I believe will purchase a all electric truck when the mileage is double of what it is now

    • @scottlunt7904
      @scottlunt7904 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mark! Yeah, the towing is an Achilles heel for EV trucks now. Wind resistance seems to be the biggest killer.

    Love the camp site location amongst the aspens and no-doubt some great trails. The R1S meets my needs more than the R1T, but nice to see some R's hitting the nature ;-)

    • @scottlunt7904
      @scottlunt7904 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, the R1S would have been great in this situation, although packing all of the bikes would have been a challenge. Can't wait to see some configurations of the R1S once they're in the wild!

    Looks like you've got lots of good options for accessories. Thanks for the video. I'm thinking of looking into something like a Hitch Fire grill for camp cooking for similar reasons. That Yakima rack also looks perfect for the bed of the truck! The electrical-tape connector for the compressor is perfect, haha.

    • @scottlunt7904
      @scottlunt7904 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, we need to come up with some better connectors for the toys and the air compressor line. Thanks for watching!

      @@scottlunt7904 Yeah, I snagged a set of adapters for the compressor line from Amazon to just leave in the gear tunnel door for just that sort of thing, but I'm honestly thinking I ought to throw a roll of tape in there too!

    wonder if that camp kitchen will ever see the light of day, they sure hyped it up in the beginning and I have one on my hopefully by originally 2H23 Max Pack pre-order, but they still haven't shipped it or the tent have they?
    Would you use the kitchen at all or is the battery drain a concern? our Model X before I sold it was really bad at phantom drain, even will killing every connection, turning off all the monitoring/overheat stuff, anything I could find to it even resetting the password it'd loose 10-13% a week just sitting idle in driveway.

    I would suggest investing in portable solar panels. You can always take em out put it on the truck or away from the camp let it get all that extra juice and just hook it up to the truck 🤷🏽‍♂️its a little expensive but if you can buy a Rivian outright then I'm sure yall are fine lol.

    • @scottlunt7904
      @scottlunt7904 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent idea. I have not looked into solar panels just yet - wanted to get really familiar with the truck and the electrical system first so see where the needs lie. But, that's just around the corner for sure. Thanks!

    How bad is the battery charge loss after say 3 days? I have a reservation for the R1T, but still on the fence. We spend several days boondocking and overlanding before we would even get close to a level 2, let alone level 3 charger. I think I may need to buy a bigger generator lol.

    • @RivianDad
      @RivianDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are some little things that have come up over the last 10,000 miles, around a year. But not many. My biggest concern is the weight of the vehicle, which makes it a little trickier to drive in really slippery conditions, but that is offset by the fact that, it has a motor on each wheel. Making it great for driving off-road. Some minor quibbles, but nothing major. Overall, I absolutely love the truck.

    Any generator fits under the tonneau? For extended trip, carrying a generator might resolve all the mileage worrisome

    Did the stock mounts for the Yakima Megawarrior work with the Rivian crossbars?

    • @scottlunt7904
      @scottlunt7904 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes. they fit no problem at all. Note that if you moved the rack from the bed to the roof, you'd have to move the mounts to a different bracket as the crossbars on the roof are further apart, but that would be simple enough.

  • @JackMott
    @JackMott 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What kind of range with all the bikes mounted?

    • @RivianDad
      @RivianDad  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t think the bikes mounted change the range by much probably less than 5%. Which means range is still somewhere between 250 to 300 miles.

  • @j.r.basham

    You didn't really say how long your trip was with all those things plugin. How long did it last before you needed to charge again?

    • @RivianDad
      @RivianDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was three nights in one campsite but we moved the truck around here and there but only for a few miles. We dropped 22% charge over the first two nights plus driving around about 40 miles. More drop than I expected. Unfortunately my data was a little wonky so I didn’t want to put that in a video before I know for sure (and why). We charged again in Aspen before we left and made it back to Frisco easily. We could have gone all the way home on one charge but we charged in Frisco while we had lunch.
