    With Chris having the Ace Frehley sticker on his Les Paul Custom is proof how one guitar legend always influences the next. Ace has influenced so many people to pick up the guitar. Kiss as a band has influenced endless other bands and musicians, especially during the 70's & 80's

    I’m 40. Before TH-cam these guitarists were like gods, and highly unattainable. It’s so good to see that they’re just the same as the man going about his daily work, albeit with exceptional musical talent. It makes the concept of learning and playing so much more accessible.

    The level of guitar love and brotherhood in this band is so amazing. Pat giving Chris pickups, Dave buying Chris his first Foo-era guitars. Kids going to guitar stores and no one's nice to you, so true Chris! And that Chris Kies knew the pickup details and maker, so damn good. Guitar geeks who know their stuff and have such cred in so many ways. Thanks for another great RigRun.

      I remember being at Oxegen Festival in Ireland in 2005. It was a heatwave, so I decided to wander into the tent for some shade. It was so empty I could easily walk to the front barrier, barely even two rows of people were in there. The band came on, I thought the frontman looked familiar. Lo and behold, it was Chris Shiflett, and the band was Jackson United.

  • @RastaSaiyaman
    @RastaSaiyaman ปีที่แล้ว +3

    What Chris says about Dave buying him new guitars, very much mirrors what happened when Pat Smear joined Nirvana. Because according to a 2011 interview with Guitar world, Pat had no pot to piss in and worked at the SST record store, just to keep himself fed.
    It was at that store that Kurt Cobain met him one day and said, “Excuse me, you look familiar, aren't you…?” So Pat who knew Courtney struck up a conversation and was offered the spot as guitarist for Nirvana straight away. But in order for him to get to Seattle, he had to pawn his last remaining guitar.
    So Kurt picked Pat up from the airport and went, “Where's your guitar?” And after hearing about how down on his luck Pat was said “No problem, I have a relationship with Fender, they'll hook you up.” and pushing a “Nirvana Inc.” Credit card in his hands.
    So Pat showed up at rehearsal and Dave and Krist were going “We actually have Pat Smear from the Germs in our band, how awesome is that?” followed by “But how on earth is he still alive?” Kurt gave Pat a blue Mosrite to use before the Fender deal supplied him with Strats. Pat can be seen using the Mosrite on the band's SNL performance.
    Pat also recalled that Fender would send over cheap budget strats for the band to smash up, but that he and Kurt actually liked those cheap ones better than the Custom shop strats Fender supplied them with.

    The explanation that Dave gives about the three guys and their tone/approach to guitar on the documentary when they were recording Wasting Light is probably the best. He says Chris is the skilled precision guy, Dave himself sort of up the middle rhythm/lead, and Pat is the power and noise that completes it. The fact that they are all so regular and “normal” about it all is probably why they are so successful. Great video!!

    • @jayjayripoff
      @jayjayripoff ปีที่แล้ว

      My favorite Shifty sounds were on the tour right after Wasting Light came out, Vox AC30, Fender Bassman (w/ bckups), he was very clear and heard properly in the mix.
      Now, the thing is, the original Marshalls obviously had lineage from the Bassman, did the Super Leads go that bit too far into the hi-gain? If so, then the Friedmans are that far it's going towards mush.... I always wondered if this contributed to his parts sitting back a little in the mix (though not so much recently actually, (re. the tribute shows) )
      Also, I think the reason for him switching would have been the reliability of the vintage Vox and Fender amps vs the brand new heads.
      (also, if your ever renting(which I doubt that band would ever need to) you'd always be able to get an AC30 or a Marshall head....)
