    Thanks for posting the video, it saved me a lot of time looking for the problem. Ford should be ashamed of the way this car has been built, with so many sealing issues, including door seals that just fall off. I say this as an automotive engineer with some 30 years experience of designing cars.

    Another useful video Marty, I've recently done the vents on my 2014 Focus behind the rear bumper which is another water leaking issue on these, after I'd sorted that I found another leak which was one of the bolts had loosened on the rear spoiler and water was dripping onto the parcel shelf. I'll check the seam on mine now after watching this 👍

    These water leaks issues are on all Ford focuses! Ford should stop production on such design also pay customers compensation.
    Though cause of the leak in this video maybe different to the majority of the Ford focus leaks people experience.
    Anyways.. it is an engineering flaw that cannot be just so fixed, but can temporarily drain by taking the cap off from the vents in under the back bumpers. Though may many release some or most water, you still may find the whole thing still wet or iced up in winter conditions.
    Ford won't fix the flaws, because hardly anyone put a case against such production. People continue to buy...So they continue to sell with the flaws and make money on the design. So as a business who cares for quantity and money over quality.. why would they change!

    The passenger side footwell of my car is wet. I’ve put some sealant by the tailgate hinges and I’ve removed the glovebox to check for any leaks with a hose running and I can’t see any leaks. Inside the boot is dry so I don’t think it could be the vents behind the bumper. Anywhere else I could check ? It’s only the front/ rear passenger side that’s leaking

      We used a sponge to soak up and ring out mist of the water, then left it to dry naturally, as long as you fix the leak and use the car regular with the air con on (doesn't mater if heater is on hot), it will dry out naturally

    I’ve had water in my boot as well. I found water in both voids behind the rear bumper. If the seal was leaking would water get into the vent voids?

    • @Martysworkshop
      @Martysworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear there is vents that can leak behind the bumper so might be that

    • @markrimmer7428
      @markrimmer7428 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No - the vent voids have sound-deadening material in them, so they fill-up with water from around the vent seals, and eventually it overflows into the boot and saturates the carpets. The cracked seam-sealer at the top of the hatch causes gutter water to run inside the rear quarter panels and drips down onto the boot carpet in the rear corners via the hole in the trim above the shopping bag hooks. Less than an hour ago I finished drying out my own Focus which has exactly this problem, although not as severe. I'll be getting a tube of seam sealer tomorrow and doing both sides ASAP. I only have water ingress as far as the base of the rear seats, so hopefully I can nip this in the bud quickly. Thank you Marty for putting my mind at ease - a very simple fix 👍👍

      If you have coolant inside the car then I'm afraid it must be coming from your heater box, ether your heater matrix, unfortunately it's not a simple repair to my knowledge, here is a link to a video that shuld help m.th-cam.com/video/tiXmE-Muv4I/w-d-xo.html

    Hi. I've just noticed same issue on my 2017 Focus mk3 ST estate. Water in spare tire and damp right rear passenger carpet. I'll check this seal first... way less time consuming than removing the bumper. Hope it helps. Thanks! Btw. did this solution help you in the long run? Did the leaking stop permanently?

      Our car is the Ford Focus mk3 2014 when I was retiring my wife had got money put away so we wouldn't be Paying Arnold Clark more money, we have never owned a car outright 😏 But when we got it from the showroom all shiny and new Happy Days, couple of years down the line things started to go wrong water ingress flickering side lights Door seals Drivers side first. The water getting in is the biggest pain, the car has only done 73000 miles not a lot really, still looks quite smart from the outside, but really disappointed thought it would have been great to own one outright. Rant over shame on the design faults 😢😢

    This sadly is a coincidence not a Ford manufacturing fault as they explain, as the problem doesn’t happen in all their Focus’s then amazingly they just put it down to being unfortunate, good get out jail card, so it’s just a coincidence, a coincidence that 100’s of thousands of people encounter this problem and the vents under the back bumper,
    Poor show from such a big company,
    My car is the swimming pool edition, stinks of damp and mould now,
    And Ford just wipe their duty of care,
    Couldn’t even advise if the car is therefore safe to drive with water and electrics,
    Won’t ever be buying a Ford again bs company
