I have a 18 x 7 wheel currently and I just bought new enkei wheels that are 18 x 8.5. I’m keeping my recently bought tires that are 225/40/18. Would this be consider a “stage one” stretch? I’m not into stretching tires but I’m wondering if my tires would work (they are stated to work with 7.5-9 widths)
I want the Stage O straight up and down look with the sides walls as close as possible to the same height on the LS400. Comfort is most important to me. The LS will be lowered but not slammed. Rims are 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 Tire setup choice and these are the tire size I have access to: 235-40/19 and 245-40/19. Sidewall difference is 4mm (245 is taller tire) 225-40/19 and 255-35/19. Side difference is only .75mm so they are basically the same height and diameter. My worry is the 225 on the 8.5 rim will not give the straight up and down look. Thr 235 and 255 will be a good setup also with a 3.75mm difference in side amd .3mm difference in diameter. However what i have access to they are different brands and different designs. Your thoughts please!! Thank you in advance for all your help.
Thank you for posting this. I want 18x9.5 +38-+42 or 18x9 +33 wheels, but I don't want to go beyond a 245 tire width. Trying to be as close to stage 0. Which by the math is the perfect width for a 9.5 inch wheel. But I've seen 245 40 18s in 9.5 appear stretched...on the OEM 8.5 wheel, that tire appears stage 0. In most people's setups it appears that a 265 35 tire is flush for 9.5 inch wheels...
I apologize if this question sounds crazy I'm still learning. I understand you can stretch the width of a tire but can you stretch the diameter? My tire specs are 225/45/17. Can I stretch that on to an 18x8.5 wheel? If not, can I stretch it on to a 18x8 wheel? My tires are designed for 17x7 wheels but I really want an 18 inch wheel with a wider tire but nothing past 8.5. If anybody can help me with this I would appreciate it a lot. I'll even send a dollar to you on PayPal😂
Matt Parker not sure if i‘m using the right terminology. Not a native speaker. You can’t put a 17 inch tire on an 18 inch wheel because the bead that keeps the tire on the wheel is partly made of steel. And steel won’t stretch. So if you want to run an 18 inch wheel you will need new tires. In this case 225/40R18 (wich a run aswell). My wheels have a 7,5 inch width wich is basically this square look. If I understood Alex right you could go up to 9 inch on this tire (for a stage 3 stretch) before you get problems with debeading
@@lucagrundmann9469 Thank you for making it clear to me. I will go with 17x8.5 wheels now. Do you have PayPal? I will send you that dollar no problem cause I really wanted to know 😂
Matt Parker it’s no Problem. Just make sure you get the right offset or you have to use spacers. Otherwise you‘ll hit your suspension with the wheel inside
I thought 215 would have been closer to an 8.5 inch wheel, so what about 205/40 on a 17x8 wheel, there's a red vw polo in the gallery with that setup, are those conisdered stretched?
This was a very informative video but should have another disclaimer that changing the side wall and width of there tires there changing the rotation of there wheels which will throw the speedometer off on there vehicle if not done properly
Shorter tire height , better acceleration, speedometer will read fast. Taller tire height, more top speed, speedometer will read slow. Altering your tire height has the same effect as swapping the ring and pinion in the differential, and is cheaper.
I'm planning on putting 17" 9J ET45 on my mk4 golf with coilovers, what would people recommend for a good fit? Not looking to put it on its arse, just so the wheel is arch level. Cheers

So for example I've got a set of 295/35R15 Hoosier R7 Autocross tires, and I'm trying to pick between 15x13 or 15x14 wheels. With the 14" barrel I'd be at a Stage 4 stretch (show car, goes on a trailer, don't worry about it) would that be different since it's a slick and they tend to run a little wider than street tires? And thanks for the video and the gallery, you guys have saved me a lot of time researching setups in the past.

235-40/19 and 245-40/19. Sidewall difference is 4mm (245 is taller tire)
225-40/19 and 255-35/19.
I'm running a 225 35 on my 10.5 and a 235 35 on a 11.5
Thank you for posting this.
In most people's setups it appears that a 265 35 tire is flush for 9.5 inch wheels...
k_wrx_ I’m running 245/40 on my RPF-1’s. 18x9.5+38, 2015 WRX. I took the tires from a 16 STi, I’ll be getting 255/35 soon

@@lucagrundmann9469 I know about the offset but thanks dude
I'm running 17 x 8 +40 offset on a 215/45 R17. Does that consider being stretch?
A little bit of a stretch there but not terrible! 👍
Good suggestion man very good point! 🤟
Shorter tire height , better acceleration, speedometer will read fast.
Taller tire height, more top speed, speedometer will read slow.
Altering your tire height has the same effect as swapping the ring and pinion in the differential, and is cheaper.
I subscribed to this channel.. I don't regret it.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Oppps my 215/40 fell onto my 10.5 🙈
I'm planning on putting 17" 9J ET45 on my mk4 golf with coilovers, what would people recommend for a good fit? Not looking to put it on its arse, just so the wheel is arch level. Cheers

Giving stretch a “stage”
I see you guys are still answering comments on this even 4 years later, that's crazy.
I've got a question for tires with meatier sidewalls like race slicks.
The only thing with the bigger sidewall is you may run into fitment/clearance issues depending on your setup
My brain hurts. 🙃
If I’m running a widebody on 18x10.5 +22 but I don’t want any stretch, what should I get??
Astrillex YT 305/40/18 to 275/40/18

That's where u like living in Germany .... Not only all those inches and mm and stuff but the law going to it as well u dont need to think about an 205 / 40 on an 8,5 wheel cause our law says that 215/40 to an 8,5 '' wheel is the max + the fact that ur new tire size need's to match up with the old one so ur speedometer doesnt tell u an wrong number u are allowed to go 100 km/h when ur speedometer says ur going 104 km/h but u are only allowed to go 100 km/h when ur speedometer says ur going 99 km/h so law can get u in trouble thinking about tire sizes as well
You can spie check it with your phone.
Some of the 4 wheelin coal rollin trucks around here seem to have found the tire stretch calculator 🤔

So is a 205/50-15 on a 15x10 that’s being run on a single cab shortbed Toyota pickup smart? Will it debead often?
You explained how and now you should explain why...
There is no why. At least no positive why.

How am i running 215-35-18? It's max stretched out tough" 🤣
On my C63 I've ran 305/35 on 19x10, a 275/25 on 20x10 (cracked a wheel), and a 285/30 on 20x10.5. Just got a set of bc forged 19x11 and deciding on tires right now
use a thicker aspect ratio , save your wheels use 40-45 series still a low profile i use 60 series.
DUDE 315/30? on a 19x14? WHO TF IS RUNNING THAT 🤣🤣
Crossovers. BMW X5Ms, etc.
Edit: or someone wit' dat wiiiiide body kit.
hi fitment industries i have 13x6 wheel what size of tire for stage 1 stretch?? thanks for the answer
im a stage 2 meaty
So OEM Specs say 275/35 on my rears (18x9.5) which would be considered a stage 3 meaty set up correct? So should I just run 265/35’s instead?
Correct, I would run the 265/35's!!! 🔥🤘
Guess I have stage 1 meaty
What would be a good width for stretch on a 7.5” wide wheel
I drive 185 35 - 7,5x17 on mk3 Golf and 165 45 - 7,5x15 on mk1 jetta
i had 195's on a 8 with less sidewall and it was minor, you should be fine to run that on a 7.5.
Don't stretch your tires. Be safe.
I have r18 front 8j rear 9.5. how about put on- front 215/40 and rear 245/35 tires
Hi i need help on choosing the right rim and tires for my car. Stock is 185/65r15.
Whats up man! Check out our online gallery it is super helpful when trying to find wheels and tires for your ride before you make the purchase on a set! bit.ly/2Ma4oca
Would I be okay running a normal 215/35/18 stretch on a 18X9.5 for both fronts and a 215/40/18 for both rears ?
My BRZ sensors & check engine light have been all out of wack due to “tire speed differentials” with the current tire setup I have now. Great video, thanks!
You definitely can run that set up it actually is super clean! I have a link here to our gallery with BRZ's running those specs, Check it out! ---> bit.ly/2QzK3PU 🙌
So i have SSR GTX01s that fit 245/45ZR17 tires perfectly. Accidentally got a set of 4 in 225/45ZR17, would it be considered a stage 1 or 2 stretch?
Hey what kind of wheels are the ones hanging up on your left next to the gold ones on 4:38 of the video
What if I put 205/40r17 on 17*8.5j, I understand after calculation it's stage1 stretch, but from the look, they look like stage2 or more. So does the rule always works well?
For sure, It could look and appear to be a stage 2 but if you look at the specs it would be considered stage 1.
