This video is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I want to get a set of 19’s on my E60 and now I know how to calculate the relevant tire size to maintain overall tire width to keep speedo accurate. Thanks guys! 👍😀
Man i was looking for something like this video for weeks. Haha, everyone talking about tyre and wheel size but none of these muppets tells you how to choose sizes to achieve a certain tyre look. Finally someone explained it.
Perfect video for me! I have an Infiniti M37S with 20x9 inch rims and now I understand why the OEM tires at 245 wide look stretched. Because a 9" rim is actually 10" wide overall. Standard tires are 245/40x20 so I'm gonna go up to 255/40x20. I want the shoulder vertical because to me 1. It looks better, 2. Offers more curbing protection to the rim and 3. Will give a marginally more comfortable ride due to the slightly taller sidewall.
@@LionTheHeart 😳 you're measuring across the face or back of the wheel, right? Wheel diameter is across the face or back of the wheel, outside to outside. Wheel width is measured from bead to bead, inside the wheel.
Upgrading from 14” to 17” on old Mopar. This video really helped clear up some confusion and confirmed I’m looking at the right size tire. Going to run a 17x9 on the back so I’m going with the 255. Thanks!!
I have a 997.1 911 with cont contact extreme 2s. 295/30 19inch stock rim. I don’t like how they looked stretched. I would like more square sidewall. The next size would be 285/35 19. Do you think this would solve that problem? Thx!
I just spent too long doing the math myself haha I’ll drop numbers for a base 370z, stock total ride height of front wheel setup is approximately 26.8”, and rear stock is 26.7” with the rear tire sidewall being 4.34” and front tire sidewall 4.42”, now for aftermarket wheels I’m going with a width of 9.5 front and 10.5” rear (bead to bead) so technically add an inch to both. As far as tire size 255/40 front and 285/35 rear would bring your TOTAL wheel n tire height to 27.04” in the front and 26.85” in the rear. In terms of sidewalls the front is 4.02” instead of the 4.42” and rear is now 3.96” instead of 4.34” so it’ll still be a comfortable ride and won’t have any difference in mph or total ride height 🙂
the 9.5 inch front wheel is 266.7mm wide and a 255/40 tire would give you 11mm of stretch (5.5mm on each side) which is 4mm more than the stock rear wheel on the 370z base
I am looking at a set of rims with tires mounted on them for my 03 Subaru forester. The stock tire size it 215/60 R16 and the ones I am looking at purchasing are 195/55 R16. What I am wondering is will the new set of rims and tires work for my vehicle and how much of a difference will they make?

I'm not entirely sure what would be a good fit for that setup specifically, but the process in the video would tell us that an 8.5" wheel is 9.5" wide. 9.5 inches is equivalent to 241mm. Whats the application? So, with the aspect ratio for both tires being 55%, the 215/55 is going to be both wider and taller by 0.4". This will equate to about 1mph difference at 65/70mph and may cause fitment issues, but probably not.

I'm buying a 97 Infiniti Q45 that has 225/35/20 already on them. The fronts need replacing. It's an everyday drive car. Is this a good size for this car or is there a better? Much appreciated.
Great question! You're going to want to do some research on forums to see what people are running, but why I typically do on a stock wheel is go up 1 size on width, and down one on aspect ratio. What this does is will give you a slightly wider tire for a more aggressive sidewall, and then going down on the aspect ratio should keep the overall diameter close to stock.

would i be aloud to put 19 inch ds05 wheels in my 18 inch tire ?
No, if you’re running 19in wheels you will need 19in tires
Can I use 265/55r18 instead of factory 245/55r18?
What size do u recommend for 2012 Charger?
Peep some of the Chargers in our gallery to see what size looks the best! --> www.fitmentindustries.com/wheel-offset-gallery?sort=date&year=2012&make=Dodge&model=Charger&drive=RWD
Every tire to rim size company says something different. Your site is only car tires so I guess that’s different too. Some sites say: 265=9” rim another says 265=10.5” rim.
Real informative, thank you! How much is too much when choosing a rolling diameter different from the OEM specs? I’m looking at a 0.6" (2.20%) difference.
You'd be totally fine there!
Hey man I have a 2005 honda crv I found 245/40/17s brand new for 200$ will these work without rubbing the original was 215/65/16s and I changed the wheels to a 215/50/17s already . but I found the 245/40/17s

Hey my rims tires now are 205/50 r15 my new rims are 16x9.5 and 16x10.5 what size tires should I go with?
It depends what look you want! My advice is to search those two wheel specs in our gallery and see what others are running for tires! -> www.fitmentindustries.com/search-wheel-offset-gallery
What about a 20×8.5 wheel ?? What's a good tire size for this wheel ??
Depends if you’re looking for stretch or not
@@fitmentindustriesgarage5583 , I'm just looking for a normal tire , I was just wanting 275/55/20 tires
That size would work well!
@@fitmentindustriesgarage5583 , great I was just making sure those 20×8.5 will fit the 275/55/20 tires
Anyone have some suggestion for my fitment? I use bbs chr front 16x7 et40 and rear 16x8,5 et30 on my honda city 2006..

I have a 2002 bmw 325i with stock wheels and it needs new tires. According to Google, the oem specs for the tires are 205/55R16 but the car has 225/50R16 on it. Which ones should I buy?

I have 18x8 enkei wheels that I’m powder coating. What tire would you recommend for a 2015 Honda Accord EX? I want the look of the tire to have some meat but not too much like a perfect drumstick 🍗. I bought tien coilivers so I’m planning on lowering the car a few inches too cover up a wheel gap I want a flush look or tucked but nothing popping out. I like the stretched look but not that much. PLEASSEE HELP!!!! I’m trying to treat myself not cheat myself with new shoes for my car.

I'm going from a 225/45r17 on a 7.5j rim, to a 225/40r18 on a 8.5j rim would this be ok? Or would a 235/40r18 be a better option
It will be a minor stretch but it would be just fine
Does increase in tyre profile from stock 205/60 r16 to 205/65 r 16 decrease vehicle power while climbing incline roads?
Yes, taller gearing by about 3%. Would you notice it ?
Would a 205/55 R16 tire be able to replace a 215/55 R16? Looking at some rims but they come with winter tires so I’ll have to replace for summer, want to see if I’ll be able to mount and swap what I have right now. Would the 10mm difference be major? I’d appreciate the advice😄
Whats the application? So, with the aspect ratio for both tires being 55%, the 215/55 is going to be both wider and taller by 0.4". This will equate to about 1mph difference at 65/70mph and may cause fitment issues, but probably not.
Fitment Industries Garage Ohh gotcha, thank you! Decided to not be a cheapass searching for used and now just getting a solid new set with guaranteed fitment after all 🙏
I understand this so clearly now after years of not understanding what you’ve been saying 🤣
@@fitmentindustriesgarage5583 Thank You kindly.
would a 19x9.5 40 wheel and 285/35 tire fit a q60 nearly flush ?
Yes! Here is that exact spec - www.fitmentindustries.com/wheel-offset-gallery/1271981/2018-infiniti-q60-rohana-rfx11-stock-stock
@@fitmentindustriesgarage5583 okay i see but he described it that he has 255 in the front and 285 in the rear but you guys have it as 285 for front and rear, will i be fine having 285 in the front and rear ? or should i switch it to 255 in the front and 285 in the rear

Can I change size from
215/55 17
To
225/55 17
Yesss! 🤘
Excellent video 👍
I'm to stupid to understand... I just want a wider look on my tires. rear and front are 235/65R17. I just want them a little wider, would I be okay doing 255/(whatever number) and 17? idk
So better to have positive then negative calculatin?
Hi guys I was originally running 255/45 R17 8j ET34 on my stock 2005 Bmw e90 or e9x I believe it is in the us. I have now swapped them out on a risk listening to my bother for a rears at 10x19 et22 and fronts 8.5x19 et34. Now I get what you guy say about the percentage knocking out your speedo but how do I know the over all percentage and speed difference when I have two different widths of wheel and two pairs of tyres with different sizes that I have to match up to the old stock diameter?
You'll just have to clock it yourself. When I went to a bigger setup on my car I just used an app to track my speed and it was only slightly off from the speedometer!
Any advice on an app I could use that would be accurate?
@@wesleysmith6413 The waze app is one of the most accurate around, make sure you are in service and have data turn on for most accurate readings
Are the alloy wheels universal??
(17 inch alloy can fit tyre of any profile Or a specific width??)
Essentially, yes. there's finite sizes you can safely fit, though.
Great video Sean!!
What size do u recommend for Corolla 2008
It depends what wheel size!
@@fitmentindustriesgarage5583 the tire size that I have now is 235/45/17 Y
Can you just explain how to read the info that comes out about the rims. This is so confusing
if i want wider wheels i would need spacers, correct? asking for a rx 8
It depends on how wide you want to go and what kind of wheels you want!
Fitment Industries Garage thank you for the response. might say fuck it and if its too wide i'll do some cutting lol.
Thank you very much for this clip! I've been scouring the internet for info that would directly help me determine the size of my new 20" wheels for my BMW series 5 f10 as I do not fully understand tyre fitment, but also do not fully trust the "salesman-like" recommendations of the tyre shops here in Bangkok, Thailand! Thanks again! Stay safe and blessed throughout these not so certain times guys!
Thanks for watching bud! Appreciate the kind words!
This video was very helpful!
225 55 18 for 9j rims ? What do you think?
That should be just fine!
This some good game right here 👌🏾
Its no problem going up on hight size: since most cars speedometer is stock 5-15% wrong(to small)
So going up 5% will only help ur meter to show more correct speed

Best size tire for a 2013 Camry 18x8.5 rims stock hight?
