In my area its always very hot all year round, I found out to add around 15%-20% reducers to the HS clears will help alot on the finishing , get rid of orange peel and those die backs. As for MS clears, i did not encounter so much issues. As you mentioned, flash off times is very important, even in very hot areas, min 15mins is required. Previously when i always follow the TDS on the clears add max 10% reducers, every finish, diebacks occurred. So i believe in the hot wheather, it will necessary required slightly more reducers for the clears,
I like to use a wet on wet with metallics too. Helps get the possible sanding scratches covered. Sometimes I like to do a intercoat ( clear basecoat) clear over the base before the clear just to make sure there isnt anything that will show through. I tend to miss a few things on my prep. Then I can do a little sanding and respray those areas before I put the first coat of urethane clear on there.
Totally agree with you I never make videos just to get views. If I feel the content is valuable I make it. Some videos I need to get views on so I try to get a good thumbnail. that will get some clicks. I do it mostly for the information to get out there but since the pandemic It has been more important to get the Revenue as well since some of my major customer base is still on hold and may never come back. ( sign industry painting is my main gig). I do my own project cars for fun. Started out in cars but got tired of crazy people and being broke.
Hypnotising to watch, I’d imagine that this is the reward for the previous preparation! Fantastic content and commentary, look forward to seeing more 👌🏻👍🏻
“Hi I’m Tony and I have a spray gun buying addiction”😂 Keep up the good work . Your explanation of drying/ paint coats is really helpful, I’m nearly paint speak fluent!
Awesome video as always Tony, the turnout on the live chat and premier seemed to be good last night mate, I found it hard to keep up with the chat last night as my head wasn't fully in it plus I'm just an old codger making it hard to take it in 🤓😂 The base and clear went on really nice mate and that Octoral WoW had a nice sheen to it and looked really flat which is IMO how it should be. I picked up a few tips with laying the base and clear so will be giving my clear a longer flash off time, it was interesting to hear which thinners you use and change it depending on the temps but I just use the Multi-Mix standard all the year round as my temps seem to be around the 25C mark most of the time these days. Huge thanks for doing these detailed videos Tony as I know they take a lot of time to edit but you go the extra mile to make them even better 👏🙏👍
Looking good Tony , it will be nice to see it after a cut and buff. | might go for the new iwatas when they land i've had a few over the years still got the lotus edition but don't use it much.
Hi! Just came across your channel and really enjoyed watching the MR2 and the blue Mini. I have a question... my 95 Mercedes w124 is 040 black single stage and still has its original paint. Its tired and in need of a paint job but shines like new when I wash and polish it. I would love to redo it with single stage for originality but also prefer how deep the black looks compared to the base clear blacks I've been seeing. How would you compare the MR2 black to the Mini's black roof? Which black is more satisfyingly deep? Would a clear over a direct gloss black be the ultimate black? Thanks! I'd send you my car but in the US...
Awesome video Tony the finished looked first class and I can’t wait to see you review the series 2 WS400 , but watching Iwatas video about the new versions , I’m not really sure how that digital gauge will go long term but that will be discovered in the future
@@TonysRefinishingTV yeah I saw why they did that and that is something really handy for sure , I’d love to see the sealing arrangement for long term removal and replacement
Fantastic results. Did you do a review on the iwata kiwami 1 3. I think you did. What was your findings. Iam looking to buy one to respray a classic mini. Also how many litres of primer and direct gloss did you use to do the blue mini. Thanks for any help and guidance.
@@TonysRefinishingTV I thought I remembered you making a comparison with the Iwata Bellaria w400. Any advice regarding the paint would be great to. Cheers
The Kiwami4 1.3 is for Japan and is the same as the W400 Bellaria, You maybe thinking about Pete's Hobbies on here he has done a lot of comparison videos of different guns including the Kiwami4 v the W400 Bellaria 👍
As you spoke about flash times, I’m in ireland and once in a while I do some painting, and lately have found that clear doesn’t fully dry, I mean top coat is touch dry and under is soft and stays soft for weeks even months ! I use extra fast thinners and hardner with it usually leave about 20/25min flash off time. Have you any idea why is this happening ? I don’t bake it by the way . Keep those videos coming black is the hardest colors to paint
@@TonysRefinishingTV im using pro mix hs from Eclipse, extra fast, I have tried fast as well and same problem. I haven't tried another brand yet which I want to and see if I get the same problem.
Hi Tony .... you said you guide coated then blocked with 240... what did you finish with before the black wet in wet or was it 240 then straight in with wet on wet thanks

I agree there too mate
Great craftsmanship! Another advantage of doing the tricky areas first is that overspray particles on the flat areas are covered in the second pass.
Great tip!

the 2 pack stuff
