More about actual enforcement than anything else. Some cities actually limit E bike speeds to about 15-20 mph. But few if any cops would pull over a bike for going to fast, and most those laws only apply to Ebikes. If you can go that fast (perhaps going down hill) on a normal bike your free from most those laws. That said it's insanely dangerous to do so imo. You don't really have much ability to stop or avoid dangers at that speed on a bike. Your stopping distance is not great.

In near future EVs and petro vehicles end up paying the same tolls/fees to enter city, because EVs cause excessive road wear, whatever.
Then restrict personal vehicle travel to cities via smart cameras.
Then vehicle free zones times enacted.

It's is getting more taxes. it also ruins productivity by causing delays to business that is not paid by the taxpayer which can just be wasted by governments where productivity and effectiveness is totally out of the question.
The other hidden danger is many of these concrete strips that are specifically designed to damage the wheels of cars if one accidentally travel over one of these. With the EVs they can damage the battery which might mean the EV needs to be written off which means that the councils installing these traps on city roads might be shooting themselves in the foot through stupidity of not understanding the consequences of the road mess that is created in and around the CBD.

The same nonsense is happening in Brisbane.
The city has a department of traffic obstruction which is wasting millions of dollars of ratepayers money on speed bumps, chicanes and lowering speed limits on good wide arterial roads. The 40 km/hr school zones around schools with their own designated traffic lights are also farcical and simply waste motorists’ time and exacerbate congestion. Numerous cycle lanes are almost empty for most of the day.

In general I am all for giving people options. Bike lanes and the like take very little space and can in theory relieve a lot of traffic. The problem is almost no one uses them because Bike lanes are poorly designed, unsafe and start and stop randomly through out your city. Leading you to almost no destination you want. When you get there good luck on finding any kind of place to lock up your bike.
Even if you do, bike theft is insanely common and the Police treat it as basically a non crime. You file a report and nothing happens.

I kept having to go back out to the road to get around cars parked on it, swerve off it when cars just drove straight across it without warning, or dodge the overgrown trees they apparently didn't see fit to cut back when they built it.
I'm not sure what the point of building it was. It's not compatible with bikes. Or wheelchairs. Or many prams.

They reduced the limit to 30kph in the Christchurch CBD (if you can call it that) and spent $300m (so far) on new cycle ways, narrowing a lot of roads and removing on street parking spaces in the process. All it's done is clog the roads, make congestion far worse, and discouraged people from going to the city at all unless they absolutely have to for work. Central city retailers and eateries are suffering because many people just can't be bothered - it's much easier to go to a suburban mall because it's far easier to get to and you can park for free right outside the door.
The latest hare-brained scheme is to reduce a major arterial road to the airport from 4 lanes down to 2, put in yet another cycle lane, and install an extra 9 sets of traffic lights with sensors to give cyclists priority to criss-cross the road on their contra-flowing cycle lanes. Because everyone taking a flight wants to ride to the airport with their suitcase strapped to their back, especially on a 2 degree winter morning....
Many city fringe or semi rural roads that used to have a 70 or 80kph limit have systematically been reduced to 50 - they simply lay a footpath and then redesignate it as a suburban road as a means of justifying it, even if the footpath then never gets used. We now literally have farms around my area that now have flash footpaths outside that have never seen a soul (or is that sole?) on them...
Sorry about the rant - I remember Sydney's 60 and 70kph outer urban speed limits very fondly from my time living there, so it's a shame to see that vehicular utopia perhaps coming to an end.

old pac from cowan to brooklyn got dropped from 80 to 70 overnight... no signs or notices that i saw.
how about all teh dead end rural roads that went from 80 to 50 overnight? then after a few weeks, endless court appearances by locals, they went back to 70...
only a few years ago did they finally scratch the "80" off my road... its been 60 for nearly two decades.
the roads are falling apart, theres no driver training, theres more and more new drivers that have never operated any form of vehicle EVER. single lane roads, bottlenecks, only a few "main arterials" that every week have extra lanes removed and turned into bike paths and bus lanes...
despite being less than an hour from the CBD, the closest shops with a petrol station is 20km away... we still have one or two unmarked roads that are technically "derestricted"... good luck actually DOING the "state limit" of 100... yet strangely enough it was no issue at all twenty years ago, before the roads were even SEALED...
theres also the extreme opposite in some places, rather than going too slow... liberty street in newtown.enmore last time i rode it was still 60... a single lane goat track full of roundabouts...
marrickville actually scares me, its rare to actually do 60 there...
bella vista, beuna vista drive is absolutely insane with its treelined median strips, roundabouts, twisting hilly road, and street signs written with 8point fonts...
as much as i LOVE syd enfield drive, whats the point when it then hits moore park rd, cook st, oxford st, all at 40? and up the other end... council st? bondi rd?
then at night time, these two lane roads, devoid of life... and youre expected to crawl along being "safe" doing 40 when you could quite safely do 120...

You don't know the rates of people using bikes. You don't know how to accommodate population increases to areas. You don't know how much roads actually cost to maintain.
You want non-drivers to subsidize your use of your private vehicle? Nah, you wanna use your private vehicle you can use the private toll roads and the private parking garages. Public tax should go to building public infrastructure that anyone can use and makes more of Sydney more accessible to all.
If you don't want to acknowledge that you actually live in a CITY where population density means there is literally not enough space for enough roads for all the cars, go and live in the country, or support public transport and other measures that dissuade driving so that you can be left all alone on the roads.
