A few answers to the frequently asked questions I'm seeing:
    1) How much did the government pay you? Answer: Nothing, I was paid $0 to make this video. I just took a private trip to China and brought my cameras.
    2) Was this a government-sponsored trip? Answer: No, I chose the factories I wanted to visit and a Florida-based bicycle trade group helped me with connections. I'm just a private guy with a few cameras.
    3) What if the factories hid the stuff they didn't want you to see? Answer: They probably did.
    4) Why aren't you eating meat? Answer: Health and environmental reasons. Why does what I eat bother you so much?
    5) Why didn't you go to a labor camp? Answer: Because my channel is about bikes so that's what I went to see. When I visit the US for videos, I don't go film the child labor abuses or lack of affordable health care.
    6) Why do you support the CCP? Answer: I don't. I ride bikes.
I hope this helped answer any burning questions!

I'm an expat been living in Shanghai since 2013, so I've seen China change so much in my time here and it is an amazing country with amazing people. Haters will hate, but it won't change a thing. Years ago before the advent of EV, I used to cross swords with a number of haters. Some claimed Chinese made cars are junks & nobody / no country wants to import / buy them. I laughed at their ignorance as ICE cars from Geely, GWM, SAIC, Chery, Changan, etc etc were already selling in a number of countries (albeit not in huge volume like the current EV). Fast forward to today, I wonder what they would like to say now. 😂😂

I fly to China every 10 days or so….exclusively to Shanghai. I have been very pleasantly surprised at this jewel of a city. The people are very friendly, hard working, honest and dependable. The city itself is immaculately clean, more modern and better built than ANY city in USA. It rivals Tokyo in cleanliness and beats Tokyo in infrastructure in my opinion. But I believe the openness and warm hospitality of the people is what makes this my favorite large city I have ever been to….great video

I’m a 72-year old grandma and have absolutely no interest in e-bikes. However, I was curious about your visit to China and your overall experience while you were there. Western media has fed us so many negative aspects of China and from what I saw in this video, nothing could be further from the truth. China is a very modern and innovative country. It is way ahead with the use of its high speed trains or bullet trains, the factories, the treatment of its employees, the cleanliness, etc. . . Those factories sure did not look like sweat-shops to me. In any event, I was very impressed with the content of this video and your overall experience in China.

You haven't even BE THERE. And you talk this positively about China. There are good and bad sides. You also just believe this type of media. Factories always have this "show factory" which is a small part where everything looks nice for western consumers to visit. The real factory is hidden, and do look like sweat-shops. They never show that to western visitors.

for example the people who drive cars for drank people or lady clean the street didn't make a decent salary.
sweat shop still exist but very rare. because when technology kick in and improve the efficiency, you need 10 people that can do the job instead of 100.
but i do hope China can be better in the future and people out side China can know my country better.

I am so envious my cousins in China .
For example the video -- where he filmed that Little - white truck with hydraulics. That Small city -- Changzhou , 2023 GDP $280 BILLION USD (yes USD). Just 1 City . GDP par capital-$20000 USD . Ppl always :” u mean $2000?” Me :” NO! $20000”. They :” u mean 20000 Chinese yuan ?” Me :” NO ! $20000 USD !”
      Most things r much cheaper too. Like E scooters ! A $2000 E scooter(35-45KG .70-90lb heavy) could be $2000 in USA , but $500-700 in China . A $1000 Dyson vaccume , u can find alternative for $300-400 super premium . The $ /value can go Long way !
😂 I seriously wish i stayed in China back then lol . Just where I am at (7 million ppl city ). So many Drug Addicts downtown just 😮insane . I am like at the downtown core of Toronto ! 😮

You should not be surprised. Things are different in China. Companies are mostly government-owned but management-operated. The Managers are treated well by the government - they trust them with running the factories. These "bosses" (managers) treat run their departments as if the department were their own factory. Family-oriented, often located hours away from civilization. Therefore, being part of a sports team, and other recreational activities is a must for everybody. The day beginnings with the boos walking around and greeting everybody and handing out some small things like a cigarette.
Comes Chinese New Year - all employees hand over a "red HAPPY MONEY" envelope as a traditional thank you to their bosses for giving them a job.
Nobody = Polit bureau included - would ever consider this as a bribery - it is tradition.

I have been paying attention to China for a number of years and I have to say that I would love to visit. It is intriguing how well they do everyday things. I am familiar with all of the products discussed in this video and they are well made. I unfortunately would in the past say bad things about Chinese products. I have seen from experience that if a product is not meeting their standards they improve it. Great video, I think that perhaps I should visit China and see for myself.

10 years ago, I was invited for a month in China, living with a family.
I stayed in tiny cities, Taiyuan and Linfen (respectively, only ≈5 million people and ≈3 million people - that's why you never heard of them). It was obvious that I was the only white guy there by the reactions of some people. For example, we decided to go to a nephew’s kung-fu competition. As soon as I entered in the venue, nobody cared about the kung-fu anymore, they were interested by me, so we wisely decided that perhaps it wasn’t the best idea…
I was impressed that at least 90% of vehicles even back then were electric.
10 years prior, Linfen was one of the 10 most polluted city on Earth, and I was impressed at the air quality after years of work (they closed 50,000 - yes thousands - of clandestine coal mines) to the point I would actually live there.
It was a trip full of beauty and strange things, and what I liked the most were the Chinese themselves. They are a fun-loving people who love a good life and good food. You go out at night and the streets are full of people enjoying life.
Watching this film made me miss China a lot… Thanks!

When I noticed the video is 50 minutes long, I was going to skip it. But the content is so varied and interesting, I watched the entire video ! Nice job. Thank you.
it is interesting to note that Chinese factories are not like the backyard junk shops after the communists took control of the country. Not only did it learn from foreign countries, but improved on what they learned.
It seems the world is split into two, one driven by traditional Internal Combustion Engines, and an electrified one like what is shown in the video, and in China. The US is determined to hang on to the traditional way, as demonstrated by Joe Biden who is desperate to retain jobs for the auto workers, all for political expediency.
Judging by the electrified vehicles in China, it is obvious that China is not waiting around for the US, or Europe, to see the benefits of EV. The west can go their own way, and who knows if they might finally become "born again EV" users.

You may not even get the same kind of VVIP treatment in your home country. .Your intense schedule involves so many high speed train rides on time and with ease is really a shocker to your countrymen.Your trips to so many gigantic factories in China has endowed China as the factory of the world. In China, the fact is that the government does not control the behavior of foreigners, as long as everything is legal. It is interesting that Westerners often believe in the media propaganda that the Chinese government controls everything, which is absurd. Is the CPC a god? Is there nothing it cannot do? Does it have magic? Are we living in a Harry Potter world?
I watched another video where a foreign student in China visited a factory and was shown around the facilities and then treated to a Hot Pot meal. Is this VVIP treatment? Yes. Is it related to the government? Not at all. It is simply the Chinese way of hospitality. If any foreigner approaches us with goodwill willing to understand us, we are happy to receive them well. Clearing misunderstandings is a spontaneous behavior of all Chinese people. We have been misled by fake news for too long in the world.
In China, if a high-speed train is delayed, it is considered a serious operational accident, and any displeased passengers will immediately dial 12306 (railway customer service) to lodge complaints.
As for overcapacity being a joke, Janet Yellen should give herself a slap. Instead of complaining about our overcapacity, she should reflect on how she and the Western world have shifted the so-called "high-polluting outdated industries" to Third World countries over the past half-century, letting the entire Western world benefit by controlling market pricing and making Third World countries bear the negative effects of industrialization.
Facing these negative impacts, such as environmental issues, Westerners suddenly come out with a noble sense of morality to blame China or other countries. China spent at least two decades overcoming the environmental problems of industrialization and currently possesses the world's only complete industrial system, which is why we have become the world's factory. While the Western world has been busy removing its industrial capabilities in the past half-century, some Western countries are now struggling even with basic industrial production. At this point, those self-righteous Western politicians jump out and blame China's overcapacity for causing the West's difficulties. Doesn't this seem ridiculous? The West's problem lies within the West themselves, so Westerns should not act like saints.

Wow! That was probably the best video you've ever done. I was trying to turn it off, but I just kept watching and watching until the end. There are lots of people in the world that are concerned about freedom., the world is becoming more and more dangerous, and bad actors need to be found and isolated. I was absolutely astonished by the amount of surveillance that there was in China. Those in favor of it would say, what are you afraid of? What are you trying to hide? Others would feel that they're freedom is being encroached. So it's an interesting philosophical discussion.
I know China has an energy issues, they don't produce any energy so using solar panels and other forms of electrification is certainly part of their way forward to get rid of fossil fuels.
I was particularly impressed with the discussion about how the air quality and pollution has been significantly reduced. I remember watching a video number of years ago where a person was wearing a face mask which they had to change every day. But it wasn't being used for disease attenuation, but rather for pollution. They would take it off at the end of the day, and you would see the black marks on the inside showing the pollutants that were trapped in the face mask. I noticed that China is not subscribing to any of these as some would say woke Paris climate initiatives, but rather taking hold of these initiatives themselves for the common good of the country.
I was very impressed with the way companies treat their employees. Not only were they giving them food and giving them a great place to work, but also incentivizing them to do a better job. I was highly impressed with the shop floor automation and component tracking on their manufacturing.
I've seen videos of Indian factories making e-bikes as well. They don't even come up to a person's ankles with respect to the quality, efficacy, and precision that I saw in your video.
I also noted the bullet trains that you were taking call across the country. Certainly a better option than flying or driving or buses. The speed was incredible, and the services that were on the train we're not far from The catered meals that you would get on airplanes.
The people that I saw seem to be very respectful, polite, and I was highly impressed with the amount of R&d that was being shown in the various factories. They have realized that if they don't do R&d, they'll be going backwards.
Finally, I couldn't help notice you're intrinsic desire to do good, and to donate something on every video to people that were deserving in the spirit of תיקון עולם.
Thank you so much for producing this video. I've already re-engaged it with several online groups that I and members of. Well done!

I certainly was the odd one out & many asked if I was from Russia being closer to it's boarder there. The food and people were fantastic, many went out of their way to help. My best friend is Chinese. I started doing business with China in 1984. I was in the electronics business and one of the largest distributor of computer hardware in the state of Indiana. I sold that business and later became a licensed exporter of acholic beverages, exhibiting American wines at Wine and Spirits Exhibits in major cities in China. The people are incredible considerate and extremely generous. Although, they will push and shove to get to the front of the line. Their business practice is unethical and difficult to deal with. It is customary to lie, exaggerate and renege on an agreement. That is their standard procedure.
In my Electronic business, I often would receive counterfeit Microsoft Software and hardware and turn it into Microsoft. China does not abide by international patents. You must file an additional patent in China and it still won't stop the counterfeiting.
Their government subsides many of their manufacturers and levy unfair taxes and import duties on foreign competition. USA wine producers must pay over 100% duty, plus taxes and fees. To get influence in Chile, they are charged 0%. China still receives developing nation status, even though they are the largest exporter in the world. They are not required to meet pollution standards and are the largest polluters in the world today. Their GDP is fake and they abuse the financial system and utilize their borrowed money to loan-shark and buy influence throughout the world. It is now coming to a head and they are desperate because they are exposed. Their economy is spiraling down and it's too late to make any meaningful changes to save it. Foreign investment has dried up and manufacturing is relocating to business friendly countries. If you travel there, you should consider what you eat. They have found that the slaughter houses employees are taking organs that are not for consumption and selling it to restaurants. Sanitary conditions are lacking. China is in economic decline and won't recover for decades if at all.

This is very similar to our last trip. They kept us occupied from day to night, then had to have dinners, so we had little chance and energy to wonder off. We finally had some free time, and there came a special last-minute arrangement.
I suggest next time, you can tell them you want 2 days free in the middle of the trip and 3 days by yourself at the end of the trip. See what they say and let us know.

Very interesting to see Chinese innovation 😊 They have come so far technologically in such a short time, and they have improved manufacturing techniques to tweak everything to whatever price point is specified.
Easy bullet train access, the food delivery system you described, it sounds like living in the future already in many ways.

I came across your video Micah by pure chance. I used to spend time in Eastern European factories producing furniture, and foundries producing architectural products. Both arenas felt very often what I imagined Hell's kitchen to be like, with absolutely NO health and safety and usually grim environments for the workforce. What an eye-opener your visits afforded us into the 21st century China factories. You make a great ambassador for the industry and I'm sure they appreciated your perspective as much as you appreciated their welcome and professionalism. A compelling video, thank you.

Don't listen to the haters and weirdos on here.
This is a very similar experience to what I had when visiting China a few years ago. I also got to see some factories as part of my work. It is an amazing and fascinating place, especially for those of us wowed by the tech, infrastructure, and ingenuity of the people.
Some people aren't interested in exploring the world, or even knowing about what goes on outside their bubble. I pity those people, because there are so many beautiful and interesting places to see out there. Although the ones who not only refuse to look outside their comfort zone, but actively insult and try to denigrate those that do, those people don't even deserve our pity.
Last comment, I'm no vegetarian at all, but I also would probably not be eating meat from the factory cafeterias, haha.

Two small things stood out for me and. The first was being able to post on the noncompliant power bank to your hotel. In the UK it would have been confiscated .
The other was the service for drunk drivers. To drive their own cars home with putting their return electric scooters in the boot.
Both of these are excellent ideas which could be done in any country.

In UK you cannot send LI battery items just like that. Depending on battery size (who knows how much?) it must have officially a UN3481 label ... never seen them to buy at Royal Mail. Here in the rail nobody checks for power banks or x-rays your luggage (nor sure about the Euro tunnel). Here they only complain at certain times if you enter the train with 2 pieces of luggage, not that that was made clear before booking the ticket, because they want to make you pay more ... Only on the planes there is a size limit, about 20000mAh. Above that better read the details. And in general, LI batteries are not really safe. Hence these rules. OOPS.

Here in Australia, I was traveling to another city via domestic airport, they claimed my battery was over the limit in capacity, they said I either need to throw it away or store it for $10 a day until I come back. At the end, I had to throw it away as it is costing me way more than just buying another one.😢

I am about to turn 76-years old. I loved your video. I have always had a fascination with China. I think you gave a view of China that contrasts with the perceptions of China that one has based upon typical politics influenced media. I want to experience China first hand. This may be difficult given that I don’t speak Mandarin or however you refer to the Chinese language. I hope that that the U.S. can again establish a partner-like mutual admiration based relationship with China. Their culture seems to be technically advanced and I enjoyed seeing their cultural, landscape and product designs.

Never say never, major cities in China does have a lot of English speakers and you will find most the public transport system have English translations for names and instructions. If you felt this is too much, you can easily join a tour group. They will organize everything. It will certainly be a one of the biggest eye opener for you, it will change your perspective on alot of things in a good way.

I legit have contacts in China. Got there doing some factory work, and just never left. Met this girl who barely spoke English, but was wiz at understanding it. Met in a VERY interesting way. He's been there of and on for over 6 years now. Makes a western salary for his occupation in China,, and does really well there as he also work elsewhere.
There is so much to do in China and its amazing how cheap it is there in some places.
Other places are just like living in major cities in the West or in Japan.
But everything is just so much better quality of life wise.
The thing that blows their minds away is the party life there.
On top of all the things you can do. You are never EVER bored in China.
The best part is all the attractions outside of the main cities you never really get to know about if you don't know someone who is from those parts.
It's a strange place, and yet ? It feels like the home you always wanted to live in.
The best thing is just the amount of stuff you can accomplish there being from the west as a Man.
I can't say enough good things about it.
And let me tell ya, the CAR shows are weird! With a Capital W.
For that the hot spot is outside of China, for more of what we are use to anyways.
But the fact that you can get plane tickets for 1/10 the price they charge for Western domestic flights really opens your eyes to some things.
DO check out the factory tours if you can.
Deboss Garage just went there to get some Cummins engines and parts, and it was cool video and a great trip.
But DO check out the nightlife!

Love this video and how you portrayed not only the products but the people and process behind the products. Totally agree with your takeaway at the end, "it's not where something is made or even who it's made by, but rather HOW it's made, whether it has the care that goes into making a quality product. At the end of the day, that is the real difference."

I'm really glad to see this video of yours. Over the past three months, I took two of my Spanish friends, for two weeks each time (taking advantage of their visa-free period) and a journey of 10,000 to 20,000 kilometers, to visit woven bag factories, electric and gasoline motorcycle factories, electric and gasoline tricycle factories, and pickup truck factories. It was very exhausting but also very interesting. I'm quite sure we also visited one of the factories that you have visited.

I’ll be honest in saying since starting to watch your TH-cam videos on Chinese made machineries it’s given me a different appreciation for small but compact machinery and the quality at which China now makes them in comparison to our fuel guzzlers American made ones. Getting ready to start a project in Belize and the L1400 loader will surely be one of the equipment I’ll probably purchase.
