I’m level 277 and I thought I was in a good spot for the DLC but I was wrong😂. So far all the bosses I’ve fought seem to be around the caliber of Malenia and Maliketh. This all stems from the fact that these new bosses have massive health pools, long combo streams, and on top of that they don’t seem to be as susceptible to bleed, frost, and whatever else I’ve been throwing at them unlike the bosses outside of the dlc.
Prior to this I kept playing with people online to help as many people get through Malenia as possible and to also help take off some rust I may have had from being away from the game for about a year. I even met “Let me Solo her” during this and I didn’t believe it was him till dood actually solo’ed her😂.
But regardless of how much prep I’ve put in, the only thing that’s been getting me through these bosses and staying sane is being able to stay as calm as possible whenever I’m getting pressured by em. This is something I worked on while fighting Malenia over and over again.
And while I think some nerfs might happen in the future, I’d just appreciate the devs just fixing how buggy the game feels after I downloaded the DLC cause some bosses lag mid fight making it just that much more egregious to beet them. Shit is not sweet people so if you want to even stand a chance against some of these bosses get stronger and bring your A game. I wish y’all the best🫡

Yea I can definitely see what you mean about the rage thing. I've been frequently talking in vc's with my friends while we all play through the dlcs, and they've been going mentally insane with their rage💀 while I've just been laughing, and enjoying myself in my struggle. I use to have similar issues as them, where I'd just rage about getting my ass kicked, but the souls games got me to stop with that, and it makes the games alot more enjoyable as a result.

My take on this situation: I’m a new gen souls player, I’ve only played er, a little bit of sekiro and bb, but mainly er, when playing through the base game, I always thought it was too easy (barring malenia) so the MASSIVE difficulty spike on this dlc has made me VERY happy. All of these “hardcore” souls players complaining that the dlc is too hard fail to see Miyazaki’s dream in making a truly difficult game, and in general are starting to piss me off, there is a reason that the souls communities main quote is “Git Gud”. I’ve just beat the final boss recently (at least 20x harder than malenia) and I still have 16-17 more runs with new weapons and incantations that I still want to do, beating all of base game and all of the dlc in every run. I also look forward to playing sekiro later, as I’ve heard that the game is very hard, so wish me luck that it doesn’t disappoint (:
Edit: when I say final boss I mean the final boss of the dlc, not radabeast, they were a pushover

Its tough, but its always been managable. If yer really struggling with the bosses, help others do them. Use the spirit ashes. Tische makes every boss easy still haha. Also some of the DLC bosses are very tough. But nothing it's even close too Malenia or Maliketh so far.

I'm at the last boss at the moment and I'm one foot in the "too hard" camp. Not because I don't enjoy a good challenge, but because of the way these bosses are "challenging" me.
Fromsoft games always been hard but fair, when you died, you could always tell what went wrong and from there come up with a counter. Combos were at a reasonable length and with clearcut punish windows.
Many bosses in the DLC are so bloody fast with incredibly long combo and so many effects blocking your view, that you're just left there thinking "what the pickle am I supposed to do about that?!".
It's by no means all the bosses, there's a few pushovers in there and I really enjoyed the madness boss.
My main issue with the DLC is that it doesn't bring me the same sense of accomplishment when I kill a boss. Because of how incredibly fast and aggressive they are, the way they shorten and lengthen some combos to punish you for taking a punish window.
It all just adds up to ruining my sense of accomplishment, it's no longer enough to Gid Gud, you also need to get lucky. A kill doesn't feel like you actually outplayed and outmatched the boss, it feels like you learned about half of the combos, panic rolled the rest and got lucky that one time.
Killing a boss only brings me a feeling of relief that it's done, not a feeling of accomplishment that I did it.
And the world feels utterly empty, yes there are permanent stat upgrades out there to encourage exploration, but that's about it. Because the DLC is set at the end of the first game, you'll already have plenty of upgrade materials and let's be honest, the crafting materials are as good as useless. There's hardly anything to find out there, sometimes literally, great swaths of the world utterly empty.
I've 500+ hours in the base game but I don't think I'll replay the DLC and it's a crying shame as I was looking forward to it.

During the first lion boss, I originally thought it was a bit unbalanced. After playing a lot more and reaching the final boss, I can say with full certainty that it is completely balanced. Some of the first bosses are pretty difficult, but once you collect a significant amount of scadutree fragments it gets much easier. I haven’t played many souls games and the longest one boss in the dlc took me was about 20 tries so far

The Shadow Blessing items make the DLC worth exploring. Any character weak or strong will feel helpless at the beginning of the dlc but after acquiring only a few of the blessing lvls u can feel the difference. To me u dont have to acquire all of them but its worth doing so. I feel its a good combination for a dlc because u now have a reason to explore and it rewards you quite well. Most challenging DLC in any of the souls games though. 10/10 DLC

So I finished the dlcs Final boss 2 days after release, for spoiler reasons I will not say their name if you somehow don't know who they are yet, and yes I used spirit summons. These summons along with the Scadutree Blessings only exist to help you in progression. I am hardly an above average gamer and I suck ass at elden ring, but I managed to do the dlc, in a brand new Ng save file, using means available to me, in under 72 hrs. I am now currently working on my summonless run and am in the progress of fighting Messmer. It's hard but doable. I dont see the issue, you play the game for it to be hard and they delivered

I only had real trouble with two bosses and the most tries I needed for one of them is 7 total. Now, this is not meant to make me look "super good" at the game, I think calling myself average or slightly above is more accurate. But what I was, when entering the DLC, was well exercised. I started a whole new playthrough before Shadow of the Erdtree and I kinda impressed myself by crushing some bosses that always used to wipe the floor with me.
I play these games for the learning curve and the DLC provided a fantastic one for me, personally.

I think the problem is people don’t have strong builds that tailor to their playstyle. A lotta people just stick with what they see other people using even though it’s not what they feel like they should be doing. Playing the game how you want to play it is the best way to ensure you beating the bosses. I haven’t had time to fully grind the dlc but I am taking my time exploring the land of shadows. I am currently fighting Rellanna and she is taking me quite a while. Through my little time with the dlc it is clear that it is a huge step up in difficulty. While I love the challenge and am enjoying learning new bosses/playstyle I get that others aren’t. But I think the reason the dlc appears so hard is that in my opinion it does not play like Elden Ring. It plays much faster as enemies are much more aggressive and relentless. They rarely give you an opening to comfortably heal and regroup. I had to completely change my build to keep up with Rellanna’s speed 😂😂. If anyone has any tips I’m all ears lol. Good luck fellow Tarnished.

The DLC is soul crushingly hard sometimes. Some of the bosses and even certain normal enemies feel like they've been designed to piss me off. And the metric-f*ck-tons of damage done by pretty much anything has been getting on my nerves more than a few times. However, that feeling of relief and accomplishment once you overcome an annoying area, or a boss that kicked your teeth in for the last hours is all the more satisfying. Coupled with awesome additions to the lore, some truly great areas, and quite a few of the best bosses Elden Ring has to offer, along with,as always, a banger soundtrack and so on, and this DLC is overall just fantastic, even if it's rage-inducing at times

What most people didn't understand about this DLC is that its a new equation. ER is a solved math problem by now and as long as you get your build right all is well. Unlike most other DLC in the series however, this doesn't present the same math problem with different variables, it presents a completely new math problem that players need to solve and the known solution does not apply. Here's a tip for anyone starting out: if in the base game an enemy had 50% magic resistance and 0% fire resistance with 1000hp, in this DLC that enemy has 2000hp and 70% magic resistance but still 0% fire resistance while you get to upgrade your blessing to do a lot more damage. So you need to adapt and use the right tool for the job. its no coincidence that the DLC throws a bunch of ancient dragon stones at you so you can upgrade more weapons.

I think part of it is the new player base. Newer players are not accustomed to the level of difficulty in Soulsborne dlcs. However, I will say some of these bosses are the hardest I've fought in any souls game (I've played all of them, dlcs included). Some of the bosses you really have to take your time on. The final boss of SOTE feels similar in difficulty to the final boss of Sekiro, and is easily way harder than Melania. Don't expect to clear it easily with any random build. Be ready to make a project out of that fight and you'll be fine and cool-headed.

As someone who played the dlc myself I don't believe people are necessarily complaining about the difficulty but rather the bosses feel unfair. In other fromsoft games bosses have telegraphed attacks, thus when you die you feel like it was your fault for not dodging the attack correctly. On the other hand bosses like Commander Gaius in the dlc have janky hit boxes(especially the dash attack),unending combo strings that don't give you nearly enough time to heal and fast attacks that you don't see coming. All these combined makes for an unfair boss fight, which is most likely why it has mixed reviews.

If you were a cheesy player in base game (range attack spamming and summons) then the DLC crushes you, if you actually got decent at dodging and blocking then the DLC is playable. So far, I’d say the DLC has been 10/10 on all fronts, amazing weapons, great cinematic, incredible world design, stunning art style and graphics, spectacular armour, and the difficulty isn’t that bad, it’s at the perfect level where you will die a lot, but the feeling of accomplishment is pride rather than, ‘thank god it’s over with’. Overall it’s definitely the best dlc from has ever made, and yes, I have also platinumed every souls game, and beaten all dlcs (except Sekiro)

Mate I get crushed in the base game. 40 hours in now where near complete. However the goat of Sekiro completed, platinumed and did a no death run. Tried no hit but always that odd thing swipes me

I played the dlc, killed every boss, Renalla, Mesmer, that pink Scorpio, the flower/tree, bayle the dragon, commander guya? The one on the hog behind black castle, frenzy flame guy and other. but radhan is my last one left, which I aim to kill in the next 2 days of grinding him

I got stuck on the new Lord of frenzy flame boss and the ghost flame horse boss, but all I had to do it just level up a bit and memorize a little bit of there move sets and then I was golden. I got stuck on Consort Radhan, so I had to change me build to the cursed bloody pokey finger shield build and that finally did it........ After 15 hours of fighting him. 🤣🤣🤣 It really is the best DLC Fromsoft has ever made, it's REALLY hard but that's what makes it fun. So if you don't like harder games then, this DLC is not for the faint of heart.

Tbh Elden Ring was the first (and sometimes only) soulsgame for a lot of people and it is too easy. Simply because of the open world approach and the chance of over leveling and getting good gear early that comes with that. I really like that the dlc is different in this aspect.

I’m Currently 5/7 main bosses through, it may take a couple hours for a few bosses (like Rellana or Messmer) but it’s still manageable and definitely worth it.
(For the record, I’m on NG+6 at level 520. So I was getting one-tapped by everything at first 😂)
Regardless, I main dual godslayer great swords and don’t use summons. So if an average player like me or my friends can do it, then it’s definitely achievable 👍👍

P.S. the only thing i want them to fix is the drops me and my buddy will watch eachother kill ghostflame dragon and got different drops, or some of the npc invaders drop nothing at all.

Then it's not for them complaining. Honestly, I saw/heard so many during the base game skip so much. They left out testing news weapons, missed out on lvling up (Im LvL199 and Shadow of the Erdtree feels very brutal), and rushing through the game. They're also complaining that they have to beat Radahn and Mohg (they're main characters in the lore 😂).
-- A beginning boss in Shadow/Erdtree, Blackgaol Knight, one shots so many players. Been farming as a phantom there for a few hours now and let me tell ya'... 😂 folks aren't ready. Also, use others to help you. Find those that will wait to get a 3rd player. I certainly do. If we have 3 we're more likely to win.
-- Folks struggling... keep trying. Those willing to help... truly help out and be patient. We can 💪 lvl up as a community folks.

My problem isn’t that it’s difficult, it’s why it is difficult. The difficulty doesn’t really come from bosses attack patterns but how much damage the bosses do per hit. When I die I feel cheated rather than beaten like I did in the base game. The difficulty feels kinda artificial instead of a genuine challenge.

The question then becomes, how else would you make a DLC challenging when by the time you get to it, you're already level 100+? They added in a mechanic(scadutree fragments/ashes) to scale your damage and toughness to that world and ONLY in that world. It works.

I like the challenge that is why I like the soulsbourne games!

I finished the dlc last night, it is very, very hard and the final boss made malenia feel easy, but I couldn’t have wanted anything more from the last piece of content for elden ring. The game gives you plenty of different ways to give yourself an edge and a lot of people in these reviews don’t use them and then complain. I challenged myself with a no summons or spirit ashes run and yeah the dlc kicked my ass but I loved every second of it, except for Gaius I feel everyone agrees the hitbox there needs some tweaking, but I still beat him nonetheless

  • @Melvinious
    @Melvinious 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

The only bosses i have issues with are the pig man and the final boss. Both of which are difficult to the point of feeling unfair, and i do not enjoy beating a boss and still feeling annoyed after instead of accomplished. I think gimmick mechanics are the least fun thing about the difficult bosses of souls games. Like malenias waterfowl dance, for example, if you are using a heavier weapon and she starts the animation as you are swinging its either death or she gains her hp bar back. Its a gimmick that feels unfair and it's not enjoyable. The difference is that malenia has that one instance of it feeling unfun, where the dlc bosses have multiple. That shit is annoying. Everything else is amazing though. I love that atmosphere. Messmer was by far my favorite boss fight

My opinion: I'm loving it. I think they tailored the challenge to confront the criticisms such as "spirit ashes bad.... gold phantoms bad... etc." Good on you FromSoftware for leaning into the game and giving us a rewarding challenge while promoting the new mechanics that, (again in my opinion), are super-ultra-mega FUN.
