Ha! I know Anne, and Dr. Essy as well as the rest of the crew. Dr. Essy bailed me out after a lethal heart attack in 2010 in Chiang Mia, Thailand. I follow the Essy nutritional lifestyle religiously at age 89. Personally, I can vouch for the incredible care Essy and Anne have provided me. I left the hospital with an insane bag of meds. I refused to take all the meds and was sternly told that I'd die if I didn't take the meds. I replied that at least I'd die free of chemicals. (Have not seen a cardiologist since.) I immediately started searching the internet for options - first found Dr Ornish and shortly after Dr. Esselstyn's book, "Reversing Heart Disease....." Its been read and reread numbers of times. Anne and her husband are international treasures! And, they have a thriving community of followers in Chiang Mai. Chef AJ, you do fine work..... Carry on! Jerry in Chiang Mai
CONGRATULATIONS for your wisdom in seeking out Dr. Essy! He saved my hubby’s life after our very well-known cardiologists had only stents and those debilitating stupid statin drugs to offer. Dr Essy eating plan did in three months what none of the meds did in YEARS. God Bless Essy and Ann! God blesses their family because they have given their lives to save OUR lives!!! 💕💕💕💕
Ann is just awesome! I had no idea she was 87 years young! What an inspiration she is. She said in the early days they 'just had to figure it out'. I am so glad she did!
Ive been following the Esselstyn Whole Food Plant Based way of eating for over eight years. My father died at 59 from coronary artery disease and everyone on that side of the family was type 2 diabetic which sometimes goes along with CAD. I dont take any medications at 68 my blood tests are spot on and my doctor says I have the blood pressure of a teenager at 117/73. And with my family history!! When I first started I wrote to Dr Esselstyn to thank him and he actually called me to see how I was doing! I was so surprised but then Ann also contacted me to support. These people are so wonderful, they’re the real thing without a doubt. I am so thankful for them. ❤
Anne is just so lovely and if I need a boost to my day, a smile on my face, or need to strengthen my healthy resolve, I watch her. I would love to see Anne and Jane create the rice and bean dish that they eat so often - maybe they have already done that. I'll take a look. Thank you. She is a breath of fresh air and a huge inspiration.

Dear Ann Crile-Esselstyn Thank You for everything you do ! I only know you from the TH-cam cooking videos that you do with your daughter and these videos have helped me so much !
Ann is so inspirational. I've been WFPB for almost 7 years now, and would never dream of going back to the dangerous SAD diet. (Standard American Diet). The improvements to your overall health speak for itself.
I love Ann and Chef AJ together! I've admired these women, but seeing them both together is just fantastic! thank you both for the inspiration and wonderful recipes that have changed my life. I'm a plant-based self-taught homecook and just love cooking and eating this way. Great interview with two giants in the plant-based movement. I love watching Ann and Jane cook together too. Ann is 87-years-young! Dolores
What a blessing to listen to Anne Esselstyn! I watch the demos she does with Jane frequently but it is such a delight to listen to a more personal interview. Thank you!
One of my favorites. I'm in my 70s vegan and appreciate her authenticity about what they eat and how they live. Until she described all the greens I might have thought they only ate plain rice and beans. What her father ate was fascinating.
Ann, I felt same way as you then my Dr. Talked me into a test checking capacity of my lungs. Surprise,surprise-- I ended up with lung cancer in my lower left lung. Dr was able to remove it all, thank God. I'm doing well now. I'm 76 yrs old. Think again about doing tests Dr recommends. God bless you from Katie in Oregon
Absolutely loved this! Thank you, Chef AJ, for helping us get to know Ann. I've never watched either of you, but have seen and heard about you both in the plant-based community for years. Wow, so inspiring. Our family is now whole-food plant-based for over 5 years (2 little kids and a third pregnancy currently.) Ann makes me excited to get older! She makes 87 look so fun and happy! And, I think that's one thing she can be proud of: I've shared this on my FB to hopefully help inspire those that may want to but are still scared to go plant-based, to see that it's healthy and safe, and in fact, 87 very rarely is how Ann is - healthy, happy and vibrant... And Chef AJ, I loved getting to know you as well! Thank you for bringing this content to us, it's so valuable!
Ann Crile-Esselstyn is an icon on her own! She is humble and a magnificent human being just as she is. She is authentic and truly amazing. She is a beautiful woman who appreciates others for the goodness that she sees in them and she lets us all know in the kindest of ways.
Thank you so much for this. I've seen Ms Esselstyn with her daughter Jane many times, and together they're charming personae. But this interview gave me a much more detailed impression of her as an individual. I found her to be intelligent, thoughtful and relatable. She is unvarnished, and seems to live an authentic life, supremely comfortable in her own skin. The standard question about pride was answered in an atypical way, and that was wonderful. Aren't we all ridiculously pressured or shamed into leaving our marks? Her joys seem to come from her experiences with her loved ones. Here here. Thank you as well for mentioning the terrific Japanese film "Afterlife." It's one of my favorites. Thank you Chef AJ for all you do for all of us, and for all the animals. And this series on older vegans has been superb. Kudos.
Watch her lecture on going plant based in Canada on U tube; she's a scream & very informative! She knows her stuff, I wish Jane would shut up & let her talk more!
As many times as I’ve listened to and talked with Ann, this interview of yours Chef AJ is so awe inspiring and interesting. What a privilege to listen to these two amazing women! Thank you for sharing. Just an aside, the red pistachios were died to cover unsightly stains on the light colored shells. One company started it to make themselves stand out in the marketplace, and then everyone else joined in. But then they developed harvesting methods that prevent the shells getting stained, so its not necessary to dye them. Possibly being influenced by red dye becoming unpopular.
