Delicious! First the Red Lentil curry and now this one😊 I nearly ate the whole pot in one evening! As I was watching I said to myself "I'm going to add spinach to mine" and lo and behold you added spinach😄 Reading my mind again, I really enjoy this recipe, thank you again❤
Wowzers! One of my cello students told me about your channel. Who knew that I could ever enjoy eating meals prepared at home by me (not a great cook) AND on a budget!?! Your presentation and atmosphere is so alluring and the flavors are so balanced. And you guide the viewer/listener through the recipe in a patient and encouraging way. I have also prepared and savored the garlic turmeric rice (twice) and Red Lentil Curry. Fantastic! Cooking with confidence in Kentucky. YAY!
Fantastic dish! I love the red lentil curry recipe you have on your channel as well (I add spinach and potato to it to make it even heartier and stretch the portions out a little bit). Eating plant-based dishes (especially those with lots of beans for the main source of protein) is such a great way to save money on your food budget without sacrificing flavor and interest!
❤ Lay ho, Wil! It's lovely to see you sautée the spices at the start of the dish. Your channa masala looks awesome, especially with the added spinach. Thank you so much for your brilliant, creative cooking shows. ❤
Chana masala is an Indian dish …infact all the pakistani food is copied from india, afghanistan and iran…pakistan doesn’t have much of diversity in food .. Sorry if this offends you but there are many people walking on this earth who are ancient than pakistan So calling chana masala as an pakistani dish is undermining work of our Indian ancestors and culture who created these wonderful dishes over time interval thousands of years
I will try this recipe 😋.. I buy the dried chickpeas now as so much cheaper. Soak and cook and freeze (in two cup portion sizes) so they are always to hand for such recipes. I'm going to add kale instead of spinach as it's in abundance on the island I live on. Can't wait to cook this. Thank you Will. Loving your channel.💕
What a great tip! We burn through a lot of chick peas in our house and it’s out of pure exhaustion that I don’t make from dried each time. I’ll try your method as it will save a lot of time, expense and my chick pea footprint will be minimal! I also just learned that the key to non-gassy chickpeas (from dried) is soaking them for 8-12 hrs beforehand and rinsing and adding a fresh batch of water every 3 hrs. I’m stoked, thank you!
@TonySopranoswife you're very welcome... another tip I have, once you have soaked them for the required time, I cook mine on high in the slow cooker for 4 to 5 hours ... its better on high so they don't overcook and get mushy. But just keep testing them. But cooking them in the slow cooker means not boiling them on the stovetop for ages. I hate all that steam when cooking things on the stove. I really recommend the slow cooker method I use it for all my beans and pulses. So.much better 💕👍
That's one serious delicious curry meal. I have all those ingredients in stock, Thanks Wil I will be trying this recipe out. As Always so relaxing to watch a master at work.
It is always a special pleasure for me to watch your videos. You are really unique. And really all recipes are always a taste experience. Thanks a lot for this!
Nice touch there with the coconut cream there towards the end!. Whole spices, in this case Cumin seeds are always to be added in hot oil. The cumin seed should almost pop when you add it to oil that's how they lend test to the fat. Adding them to cold oil is as good as not adding it. The cumin powder added will give the smoky taste, the seeds in hot oil add a different layer of taste.
Dear Mr yeung greetings from Nigeria have been following your cooking for a while now,I love them especially your tofu dishes, would love to see you on an Ash tshirt one day.cheers
Yum. I will be making this. The aroma from the sautéing at the start must have been yummy! I still enjoy having the tofu katsu from your recipe, my fav...i've done a few and all are delicious!
I love chana masala but it's $20 when I get it at an Indian restaurant. I knew the ingredients were inexpensive and I needed to make it myself. I've never had spinach in chana masala. Add some basmati rice and garlic naan and this is the Hindu version of heaven.
My only tip I feel confident about giving advice on a cooking show. As far as spices go, for those of us on budget, the most economical and freshest place to get them, especially if you've never used the particular spice or herb, is to buy in bulk. You can get 1 tablespoon of (fill in the blank, usually for me an ethnic recipe I ain't never cooked before). You buy them by the ounce (or grams). Co-Ops, Whole Foods, Winco, Health Food Stores that have actual groceries, not just pills, which by the by cracks me up. I'm into Indian food recipes, now they use lots of exotic, for me, spices and herbs. It's very affordable. "Bean looking" amusing.
Got inspired and just made that dish. Although I changed some things and added fried tofu, it was delicious. Thanks for these nice and easy recipes and that enthusiasm in your videos!
Very nice recipe chef 👍👌👏. I was about to make your red lentils curry when I got a notification for a delicious chickpea spinach curry 😊😋, so I am about to dig in yammy 😋. I didn't have fresh spinach so I use frozen ones still yammy 😋. Thank you for your effort 🌞😎
Thumbs up for this easy and extremely delicious recipe. I enjoyed it very much. For my taste I adapted the ingredients a bit: instead of green chili peppers I used dried jalapeños, in lack of fresh spinach I used frozen spinach. Furthermore I cooked oats (whole grains) instead of rice which is quite delicious. Thanks for your wonderful recipes! Greetings from Germany 👍👍👍
You’ve done it again, it’s amazing, thanks!! With the first bite I thought oh, this is bland and then I realized after chowing down a bit that I was addicted it was so moreish! I don’t know how you do it, but you sure have the magic, sir. 🙏 BTW, I used kale and soaked chickpeas.
Chickpea masala looks amazing. I do find it a little too thick. I would stir in half cup of mushroom stock before serving. It would be advisable to garnish the dish with a few cilantro stems before they wilt in a little while still on the stove. Use the leaves to garnish when serving and honestly I've made this without using any coconut cream. It still tasted amazing!
This dish was amazing!! My daughter & I scarfed it down😅 I had all the ingredients on hand except for spinach. So I substituted with bok choy from my garden & I had left over asparagus from another meal (hate wasting food). It was delish 😋 Thank you for another great dinner idea.❤

Couple of tips I got from friends and family: reserve some spices and add a teaspoon at the end; cooking dulls down the spices and that last addition just makes it sing; when cooking chickpeas add a teaspoon of baking soda it will soften down the peas without losing shape.. makes them creamy; soo good.. then when the rube had a chance to cook in baking soda for 10 minutes do I add all other ingredients :) my absolute favorite comfort food..
Depends on the spices...in most Indian/Pakistani/Southeast Asian curry type dishes (basically anything with a sauce) you add the dried spices to hot oil to open up the flavor, also called letting the spices "bloom", though garam masala is indeed usually added straight in at the end and not typically cooked.

Being of Indian descent I can say that you came very close to the chana Masala. This looks absolutely fantastic.
Well, he's not an Indian auntie, so that's strike one. 😂

Wow it looks awesome. Being Indian this Chana masala is one of our staple menu
As a Pakistani, I can attest that this is very similar to the chana masala we make at home. Thanks !
