What are your thoughts on the chiropractors who say it can increase your life by like 10-15 years? Like does it help your posture so much that you have more energy and think it will help you in the long run health wise

    • @Myxo14

I've never heard those claims before and don't have much of an opinion on it. I do believe that sitting for long periods of time in a chair that promotes proper posture will be far more beneficial to your health in the long term verse a chair that does not. In my mind, if by sitting in an ergonomic chair ensures I don't develop back pain/problems in the future, I'm all for it. A number of years ago I had cancer, and being through that drama taught me to take my health seriously. If I can avoid future back problems by buying a used ergonomic chair on the cheap (which is how I got my Leap and Embody), I'm definitely doing so...not to mention they are the most comfortable chairs I've sat in, so that should be reason enough.

First, I do NOT work for the Herman Miller company nor am I endorsed by them. This is my own personal experience. What happened was that I noticed a painful, tight muscle knot developing in the right side of my buttock. I am not a fat guy so I have now extra soft tissue to protect it. I purchased a Secret Lab (Throne) gaming chair last year but that chair was not bought because I had pain back then. Well, after sitting on Secret Lab's "Throne" for over 6 months and still getting this painful muscle knot... Hmmm. I was in so much and intense pain. One day I complained about it to my friend. She mentioned me the Herman Miller chairs. I had NO idea what she was talking about? Turned out her husband works for Exxon Mobil from home and Exxon provides the best available chairs to their employees who work out from their homes, especially because their work hours last up to 10-12 hrs daily. Then, while still on the phone with my friend, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, I got the idea to check and see if these type of chairs are available at Walmart's website. Lo and behold, I found one, the AERON. I ordered it asap and it arrived brand new in box for the fraction of the Miller's website's retail price. To sit on this chair is a NIGHT and DAY difference. The painful muscle knot is GONE. No pain or whatsoever. If this would NOT happen to me - as I'm a very skeptical person by nature- there would be just NOW WAY that I would EVER believe it. I still have a hard time to believe all this but I have to because I feel it. Cheers!

I am an 83 year old retired engineer, I have been using the Aeron for years now and it is an okay chair. The high price tag is not an big issue for me but still at the same time I think the money for it is not justified. There are other options that are cheaper and perform just as well, here again we are talking about the "Herman Miller" name. I had colluegues who absolutely hated it and prefered cheaper alternatives. In my eyes a chair for someone who got extra money to spare, but not for someone who might need to save up for it or someone with a lower income. As the money will be quite a lot for most people.

The money is justified, when those cheap chairs don't come with a 12+ year warranty rated for 24/7 use.
I understand that the Aeron isn't comfortable for everyone, but high end office chairs are the best for a reason. There are so many other high end but less expensive choices, like the Steelcase Amia, Haworth Zody and Herman Miller Mirra 2.
A lot of ppl tend to buy these chairs second hand, so it doesn't break the bank. They'll last far longer than any cheap chair and stay in a much better condition.

I've used an Aeron chair since 1997, and it's been a back saver! My first Aeron chair had a broken knob around a decade ago, and the company I bought it from replaced it (the entire chair) for free. This second Aeron has held up well -- despite my having sat in this chair for my work about 50 hours a week on average. So - yes - Aeron chairs are the best and worth every penny!

Yes! I had an Aeron at my last job and I could never figure out what it was about it that bothered me. That's what it was! I know that sounds like it should have been obvious but I got so used to doing it at home, I just accepted the way I sit was uncomfortable in the Aeron but never really put two and two together as for why. Now I'm torn between the Leap and Embody for my work from home office.

I just received a brand new remastered Aeron. The mods they made to the seat front design solves this issue. I personally have had an Aeron classic at work for 15 years, and while I can sit cross-legged comfortably--which usually involves putting a foot on a caster arm, I can see how some might not be able to. Also, the new tilt-limiters are far and away better on the remastered than they are on the classic. I never use the forward tilt on my classic but am blown away by it on my new chair. Working from home will never be better.

I don't currently work for Herman Miller or Steelcase, but I work in the industry. I sold the very first Aeron chair when it came available. People bought Aeron's because it looked cool. Great, more money in my pocket. They gave me one, but I gave it to my assistant. The hard frame dug into the back of my legs and cut-off the circulation to my legs (not good). Also, people can't sit on the edge of the chair because of the hard frame. I personally sit in a Steelcase Leap chair and have NEVER had fatigue issues or never had a hard frame dig into my body. Try both and decide for yourself.

    • @snekbaev
      @snekbaev 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

interestingly enough I returned Embody after almost a month as I started to have blood circulation related issues within the first several days (+ a bit of back pain), now testing Aeron and having similar issues again less acute though, but still. Same bottom line: don't blindly buy into any kind of hype when it comes to chairs but try and test for a longer period like 2-3 weeks as testing for 15-20 minutes in the showroom is virtually nothing.

Couple years ago at work we bought all new chairs for the office and tried out all 3 you have here plus another Steelcase option I don't remember. The Leap was by far my favorite and the clear winner in an office poll. Pretty much nobody liked the Embody. There were a few Aeron fans, but the plastic seat pan preventing any cross leg sitting was a major complaint as was the weird arm rests. Also as we are outfitting an office including conference rooms it only makes sense to get one size for the entire office which would obviously be the B size, but for a few people that was uncomfortable since they were either too large or small. I think the different sizing options really hurts the Herman Miller when it comes to adoption into office environments where the chair might have many users over its lifetime.

Great video! I did a lot of research when I was looking for a chair replacement for my work-from-home office, and kept coming back to this video.
I just received my Aeron Remastered today!
Just wanted to mention a couple of things:
    1) the armrests of the new Aeron Remastered do slide back and forth. so while the armrest height adjustment is a bit clunky (I personally don't mind), now it is very easy to slide the armrest back if you want to pull the chair up against a desk. With this, the armrests get an almost perfect score for me.
    2) I agree with the pretzel test results :( I am a huge cross-legged sitter, and while the Aeron is amazing at many things, this isn't one of them.

We got lucky and found a used aeron being sold from an office closing down for 650, so we split the cost between us it comes out to 335 bucks for an Aeron in a very good condition, with posturefit too!

I walked into the Herman Miller store in NY half a year ago, planning to order an Aeron. Saw, tried and immediately bought the Herman Miller High Back Cosm. In a way, it's similar (mesh seat and back, materials), but at the same time it's the anti-Aeron: Just one lever for up/down adjustment, that's it. The Cosm magically adjusts itself to your body in every position, then supports and cradles it, firmly and softly. It looks more modern and sleek, as well. But they all suffer from the same thing: the arm rest locking mechanism gets very loose with time and barely holds its position, so you constantly have to adjust it. And that lumbar support attachment breaks in half!!! (These chairs are used pretty much 24/7 so they have more than your usual wear and tear and are used by different people) just something to keep in mind.

About a year ago TH-cam randomly offered me to watch this video, I knew nothing about office chairs and couldn’t care less and it was one of those random videos, well, I watched it. Just a month ago I was told I was terminated and I would be getting on with chase, and I would be at home working. I remembered you mentioned how this was a high end chair. So that day I knew I needed an office chair and I immediately remembered this video I then rewatched it and Watched probably 30 other videos on Herman Miller and as of today, the aeron is in my living room ready to start work Monday. You are the reason I knew anything about Herman Miller and I don’t have a. 50 dollar target chair. I’m really glad TH-cam recommend a. Random video a year ago and that I watched it. With that said though. Your an ass for making me spend 1000 dollars on a chair lol. I don’t think I’m going to regret the aeron at all. Iv sat in it for a few hours today and it’s so comfortable. Thanks for the review! Went to a local herman miller retailer today to test out both the aeron and the embody. Initially, the leanback of the aeron was incredible, however the more I sat in the aeron, the colder I was getting from the mesh which I didn't like ( I had sweats and a hoodie on as well). After getting the tension down on the embody to a similar feel to the aeron, it was clear that the embody was the right choice. The embody hugged and pushed up your spine whereas it almost felt like your were "sinking" into the mesh of the aeron and I was getting too locked in place in the aeron. I like that you can sit in a couple of more positions on the embody than the aeron so I ended up going with the embody!

Yes! I was waiting for him to bring up this great feature. As a transplanted Canadian living in Southern California, I'm always running hot and the mesh back and seat of the Aeron chair keeps me cool. It's the only chair I've found to do this. I've had mine for over 25 years and just within the past couple of months (because I've been working from home and had to rely on my Aeron even more than normal) I've had to replace both the seat and left armrest pad. I was easily able to order the replacement parts online and repair them myself. I should be able to get another 25 years of use out of the Cadillac of office chairs.

Easy to vacuum. I also believe if you have the need to cross your legs, it is time to get up and stretch and walk around. Over the years that will take it's toll on your circulation. This is the simple fact that so many users fail to understand. The Aeron was designed for perfect posture, it's not meant to allow different positions.
Yes, the fit of the Aeron might still cause issues, even if you sit properly.

Great video and I sat in all those chairs you shown, and by far the HM-Aeron is my favorite chair. Back in the 1990's when they first appeared, I was hired as a programmer in San Francisco and I couldn't believe what a beautiful design and it was not too long before I seen the chairs in all the National News shows like CNN, MSNBC and CBS. Now, I notice the chair look a little dated and companies are not buying them as much, or at all. However, I personally owned an Aeron from the 1990's brand new, and I still use it as my main home office chair. Over the 26 years I owned the Aeron, I had replaced the seat, and arm rest cushion but other that, its a great value.

I feel like the design might not be fresh enough for those corporate settings that were introduced to the Aeron Classic in the 90s.
However, the Aeron has a very unique look and the vast majority of people would never consider it as a office chair. Chairs from Steelcase look a lot more like standard office chairs tbh.
I personally think that's what makes Herman Miller such an interesting office furniture company, as they're willing to come with unique products.

I've had enough of my back/neck flaring up and wanted to see if the HM chairs would help. My thoughts based on being at the store for an hour or so:
The Aeron didn't work for me because of the frame (nor did any of the other HM base chairs with a frame). I have huge thighs and even on a size C Aeron the frame was pushing up against my thighs. However the back support with the optional lumbar support was wonderful. If not for the frame I might well have bought one of these.
The Embody wasn't quite as supportive as the Aeron but I like how the chair moved with you. Despite being less supportive I found it more comfortable overall and a bit more roomy. I do wish it had an adjustment for the angle of the seat bottom like the Aeron does. I found the Embody Logitech less comfortable than the standard Embody despite the extra padding that's added. The chair fabric has indentations in it that are quite harsh, and I could feel them in my legs at the front of the chair.
I wanted to try Steelcase as well but the only dealer within 100 miles is a b2b office furniture store.
I ended up placing an order for an Embody, but it won't arrive until October so I have a few more months of my current chair/torture device. Hopefully the Embody will help mitigate back/neck pain aggravation that I'm getting now.
Thanks for your reviews, it's nice to get some feedback of what these chairs are like long term. I saw your earlier video last night but didn't see this one until coming back from chair shopping.

Congratulations on your Embody purchase! I've been very impressed with my Embody over the years. It took me a few weeks to get it dialed in, but once I found the sweet spot for me, it was fantastic. One of these days I'll do a dedicated long term Embody review.

How are you liking the Embody? I'm approximately the same height/weight as you and just purchased a a refurbished size B Aeron for ~$748 USD. I used it for ~ 4 hours last night and couldn't get past how much pressure it puts on my thighs. It ended up being painful enough that I had to switch back to my old gaming chair. I've been using it for ~1 hour today and it feels better but I'm so torn about returning it and maybe getting a new Embody

Thank you for your review! I wish more chair reviews were like this. I do pretzels! It's very rare to find a review that accounts for that.

Fellow Aeron Lover here, FYI there is Gen 2 out now, with even more adjustment. Sitting cross legged is really bad for your health, especially for extended periods. Nice review.

The seat on the Leap has a kind of hinge, that allows the front of the seat to bend downward to prevent cutting off the blood flow to the users legs. That's why it easy to sit cross legged.

I scored an old Aeron from my neighborhood FB group for free. I know it's pretty old because the arm height adjuster locks/unlocks via a wheel. I love the chair!

Usally i am not a huge fan of music overlays but due to the debilitating back pain i am experiencing i found it rather soothing. (Never use a soft lounge chair hunched over at a computer balancing on a cardboard box on top of a foot stool lower than the chair your on) wow when i type it out you can visually see how stupid i am. 😢 somebody help

I can have one of my legs crossed on my Aeron chair comfortably. 👍
This chair has been with me for almost 10 years and I can say there are reasonS why it is the most popular ergonomic chair in the world.
What's amazing is it has been debuted for decades and still remains one of the best in the market.

The AERON is a great chair. I use one at work. I am 6'2" 310 lbs. and I can sit in it all day only getting up to go to the bathroom. My only concern is that the arms wobble when I get up. If you can swing the price it is well worth it. Built to last.

    Nice review.
I have used one for over 10 years. But it has issues. If you lean back - no headrest, so I bought an extra one.
Also while leaning back, my shoulders hit the hard plastic. So I have padded the shoulder area, as well as padding in the seat - with washable blankets.

Coming from an office environment, I am "ass trained" to the Herman Miller :D
So I do have a quite a bit of an intrinsic bias.
As you say the Herman Miller is built to last and you can get one which is like new for a fraction of the new price from office liquidations.
Mine for instance cost me £280 and that included the shipping.
I is for this reason that I would consider the Herman Miller AERON to be a no-brainer for someone looking for a good chair - especially for gaming.
What are passed off as "Gaming Chairs" are what I like to call "Sweat Buckets" and cost more than what you would pay for a Herman Miller AERON second hand.

I have the Aeron and the Leap. The Aeron Ive had for nione years and its almost the same today as it was nine years ago, but the Aeron max height is an inch shorter than i need for the height of my desk. The Leap really has not held up to daily use. After five years the vinyl on the armrests are significantly cracked and the seat and back foam has compressed and flattened to the point where I cant sit in it anymore, but my ten year old who is 65lbs can. For me, i bought a new chair, a HON 2.0.

I just got my Aeron today, while having a Leap V2 previously. I must say, I really like the Aeron more so far. The recline is a lot better. I'm not a big fan of the 'liveback' feature of the Leap, as it doesn't feel like you're really reclining. And I'm able to sit comfortably cross legged on the Aeron too! My foot touches the lip a bit, but it's not a big deal. I have the remastered one though, so that might make a difference.

Does the mesh on the remastered cause fabric such as denim to wear away, noticeable in lint collecting at the bottom of the chair?

    • @nakulgandhi95
      @nakulgandhi95 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Tephnos Nope. You can notice dust accumulate but that’s just because dust can pass through the mesh.

Great video and I wish I saw this before buying the Steelcase Gesture! I can't sit comfortably in the Gesture but at least I now have a better idea of what I like and dislike in office chairs. I am considering the Aeron or Embody for my next chair.
