- Is the 911 Carrera Really All You Need?! A Jack of All Trades the RWD 992? This Video is a bit different than we typically do! Is the base 992 Carrera Enough for most drivers... I believe it is! In this video we cover some of the things I really like about the base 992 Carrera and why it makes a perfect daily driver.
*I know many of you may not like the automated car wash... I recommend a hand wash when possible but when we do a smash and grab effort we need a quick wash... can't have a dirty car 😉*

This is why I NEVER allow the dealership to wash my car after service. 😬😉
Did you see his all caps about this on the description?😂
@@slg8063Oh, hahah! I didn’t.
My dealership hand washes all 911’s.
☺️
After seeing the car wash scene I had to sit down, regulate my breathing and take a Tylenol. What the hell was that! It's like seeing a Rembrandt being placed in the dishwasher.
Wonderful affirmation for me, as I am about to pull the trigger next week ordering a well-spec'ed GT-Silver base 992 here in Colorado. Always love your videos as I grew up in Orange County, and moved out here in 2000 (But I'm back in LA and OC several for months a year). While I was watching, I thought "Looks like the Bake Pkwy area...looked on Google, and sure enough! Well done!!!!
Carrera T is all you need, manual, LSD, more noise, etc. That's why I bought 2 (991.2 and now a 992).
Yes, the "base" Carrera is absolutely all you need for a daily 911. My first Porsche (I've had 6 now, still have 3 of them) was a 2003 Carrera with "only" 320 H.P. and a 6 speed manual, and that was THE most fun 911 to drive on the street. You could really rev it out on the street without fear of being jailed. Any 911 is an amazing car, and there is nothing "base" about them! Also I really enjoyed the manual fore / aft adjustment. You always make great videos Mason, but can we talk about using an automatic car wash on a Porsche please.... 😢
Did you see his description? He knew we’d have a problem with this!😂
@@slg8063 No. What part are you referring to? Thanks
@@GTSCarLife oh how him using the car wash would not be popular!
@@slg8063 Missed that. Thanks
Yes exactly!! Thank you for the kind words! Right there with you was in a bit of a rush figured better have a "clean" car rather than a dirty one.... I always recommend a hand wash 😂
Great to see these road tests Mason. Well said and presented.
Interesting vlog, and timely. My local state has decreased all 'fun' roads to 50m/h. So my GT3 is now all but pointless. I have been pondering getting an old 911 again (993C2S), and keeping the 3 for track/sundays. To others, take on board what Mason has said, there is truth to it.
Normally I'm a very courteous driver, however this car COMPLETELY transforms me. It's so easy to go fast. I almost feel like I'm in a prototype at LeMans constantly have to contend with the other classes 😂
Thank you so much for this video, i feel like you guys kept it very real and that's exactly the kind of feedback that I wanted! (:
This is one of the best videos on the base 992, great work by the new videographer. Well done PCar Team
Thank you! 🙏🏼 So lucky to have him!!
I love mine. Bought it in 2022. Has an APR tune. A great car. Mine has a slick roof AND a rear wiper just like my old 964. Throttle feels sluggish in Normal, so I usually run Sport.
Awesome job guys. 🙌
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Interesting video, thank you for doing this. I have a 2016 Carrera, base. I wanted a non turbo as they have a more linear performance and this was the last production year for them. I have limited options; PDK, (While I love a standard like my last cars, it's not practical in LA) sunroof, 20" wheels 14 way power seats, Premium Package, etc. No sport exhaust, no sport chrono package. It's more towards a realistic sports car without all the options, although it's still like driving a computer. Because I'm not driving it on the track, and the street is not the track. It works for me. It still has a bunch of "Nannies" which to me are for people who don't know how to drive. If they sold a sports car like my 1972 Datsun 240Z, I'd buy it; much more of a drivers sports car, without all the "fluff". I really do enjoy the car however, which happens to be white with black trim like yours, and it gets a LOT of complements, but I still wish they would make an even more "base" model. I don't need power seats, power windows, etc and I'm not into one-upmanship.
Base engine spins up faster than the larger S and less lag than the Larger turbo blades in the S model.
I had a 991.2 Carrera and found it was more than enough car. List price was around $115k (it had premium package, PDK and sport exhaust). If one wanted upgrades, get a Carrera T for the upgraded brakes and suspension.
The video is pretty good though. I enjoyed it .
Review the new GTS ..I really like that one.
Does PASM on the base actually lower the car 10mm? I'm really curious to know the answer because I thought that PASM only lowered it 10mm on S models and above. I think only Sport PASM lowers it 10mm.
Wait, PASM automatically lowers the car? I thought that was only models with air suspension? Would this also apply to other models with steel springs and PASM like the Macan?
Nice video as always . I’d buy one
Thank you ☺️
I agree. Unless you are a track rat, the base has plenty of performance. Then you can always add a Cobb tune to replace those conservative factory settings and add even more power.
No manual transmission option, no bueno 😢 Otherwise, agree with you about being more than enough for a daily driver
I miss to see the road while driving. Good video.
Thank you 😊
@@Pcarwhisperer Nice video,I repeat😉👍🏻
Right now I’m enjoying my Taycan but the 911 is the dream, Targa 4 GTS to be precise....
the entire 911 other than the very high end models have the same engine block and the only difference is the size of the turbo.
Cool vid
Thank you! 🙏🏼
I have a quick question for Porsche 911 owners : please advise , Is rear wheel drive adequate for driving in snow (Canadian winters in Alberta) ? Or you need all wheel drive in snowy conditions ?
Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you .
No, it's not good, even with winter tires. You should get one with AWD.
Any 911 with a manual is all you’ll ever need. Nothing compares to it in my humble opinion! It makes you work and immediately rewards you with a heavenly driving experience like no other. Nothing in the market comes close at the relative price point.
Also, whether you’re a tall individual or not, a 911 will always give you “your” perfect sitting position! It’s an amazingly engineered machine.
1500 tune and your power is on par with the more expensive S and all you're missing is the limited slip.
I wonder if the Cayman 718 GTS is a better option than the base 911 for around the same amount of money. thank you in advance for the expert advice.
I have driven both. Overall I liked the base 992.1 Carrera much better. It is much more refined, nicer inside, and larger inside. The 718 GTS 4.0 does handle and grip better than a base 992.1, it also is better balanced, but it feels like a track rat, is nosier inside, much smaller inside, and not nearly as nice inside. The base Carrera still has a ton of grip and handles very well. Compared to a C7 Corvette, the 718 GTS 4.0 is as much of a step up from the base 992.1 as the base 992.1 is from the C7 Corvette. Power delivery is much better on the base Carrera, the GTS 4.0 feels anemic below 4000rpm, while the Carrera has a solid turbo charged 3.0 that delivers a much broader more useable torque curve. For more causal driving, the base Carrera is just so much better. For me the 718 GTS 4.0 was just too harsh and driving it for day I was just tried and was ready to return the car. With the base 992.1 Carrera, which I took on the exact same route, I just wanted to keep riding it around, it was wonderful and like a dream to drive. I have never fallen in love with any car I have ever driven as much as the base 992.1 Carrera.
Thank you @nafnaf0 for the detailed explanation. It's clear to me now that 992.1 is the winner 🏆
Oh hell no….put the 911 through a regular car wash 😳😳
I thought the sport exhaust option was just shiny chrome and no nicer sound to it. Which 911 has the snap, crackle, and pop?
I don't care for the sports exhaust at all. The base exhaust system on the base 992.1 Carrera sounds great.
Sounds pretty much like 4 cylinder Cayman S.
The best is a regular GT3
Some day..
☺️
It's refreshing to see a base 911 being reviewed. I didn't think id like the black wheels, but they actually look pretty good on this car. Just a shame to run it through an automated car wash with the spinning brushes.
Right there with you about the car wash 😞
I feel bad for that paint
lol scratching the paint in the car wash why???
Id rather have a dirty car than a scratched car! 😬
😔 Thought everyone would prefer it the other way and we were short for time 🤦🏻♂️
Those brushes were painful to watch. 😢
🙈
Wait the seat is manual?!
Yes on this car it has manual seats!
If I’m not wrong this is not a flat 6?
This car has a 3.0 liter turbo charged flat 6 👍🏼
it's a white car with german paint, you'll never see the damage of what will probably be single digit automatic car washes in its lifetime
👍🏼
Car wash!!!! Yikes ... that's how to ruin the paint.
THIS CAR IN THE CAR WASH MACHINE?!!! Bruh this is a +$100k car, man. No matter what the reasoning you have, not a good look at all for your dealership. 👎🏾
Probably a good video, I lost my interest as soon as I saw the car wash clip.
👍🏼
why would you run a car like that through a shit car wash like that????????
