This proves that Newman was the bigest star in Seinfeld
Yeah I had no idea he was in so many films, not the least of which is his pretty big role in Jurassic park
My favorite character
That's preposterous
Yes, Newman was an underappreciated character.
_Hellllllo, Mello._
That's a lot more movie references than I would have picked up in "Seinfeld". Seeing Newman in both the movie and its reference is doubly funny.
Same! I've seen a fair share of these movies too and some references completely went over my head.
Wow I didnt even notice that how cool is that?
Yeah I thought the same
Surreal
There's two clips in this video where he's in the original and in the reference
The best part about this is that they did all of these references correctly. They’re funny WITHOUT the viewer knowing where they came from. I’ve been watching Seinfeld since I was 9 and I found all of these bits funny despite not knowing the source material.
Same here, watched Seinfeld many times and found these scenes funny even though I didn't know these references.
But Knowing these references will put icing on the cake when I rewatch again.
That's the genius of the show.
And now there’s so many shows that reference seinfeld in the same way. Funny how that works
@@gabbar51ngh That's the genius of it. If they had done a Liam Neeson reference, you'd know they were makin' it up.
@@macstrong1284 this is how the mandela effect occurs imo. people remembering the parody not the actual movie it came from.
The fact that they got some of the actual actors that portrayed the originals is incredible. And Wayne doing it too!
Too bad they didn't do Jurassic Park
Jurassic Pancake
They're both named Newman too
It's as though the writers on Seinfeld were waiting for someone to come along and create this montage to validate their creativity and love of cinema.
You know Larry David's narcissistic ass loves this 🤣
Pretty sure the paycheck does that

I had no idea these were pretty much shot for shot spoofs and always considered them well written tropes. Also seeing Newman in the original movies they paid homage to kinda blew my mind.
Yeah that was funny. I wish they'd given him a line or something to acknowledge that he's playing the same role twice.
The homage to the final scene in "Midnight Cowboy" is also the episode where George thinks he has bought the car owned by Jon Voight, who of course co-starred in the movie. Brilliant!
That's also the same episode where Jerry wears cowboy boots and says "I don't want to be a cowboy".
Yep, that whole episode was one long homage to "Midnight Cowboy."
Everybody's talkin' at me
I can't hear a word they're sayin'
Just drivin' around in Jon Voight's car
I was today years old when I realized that Wayne Knight (Newman) is in both JFK and Basic Instinct and doing the same thing in those movies as he's going in the Seinfeld parodies of them. That's genius! :D
Yeah I know me too! I was completely shocked and I thought it was incredible 👍🤣
They should have made the Jurassic Park reference as well..
That's gold Jerry, GOLD!!
I was today years old as well lol
Same here! I see this is 3 months ago! I just got into Seinfeld again after 10 or so years
The great thing about these references in Seinfeld is they're funny even if you don't get they're a reference. That's just good writing.
@Jacob King I had the same reaction when I first saw Citizen Kane, and could pinpoint every scene recreated by the Simpsons
Yeah. I haven't watched most of these films...but it was still great watching the Seinfeld episodes.
Yeah most times it's only funny if you get the reference but not with Seinfeld.
That's how it should be. Nowadays, most shows (not all) tend to talk down to the viewer and blatantly tell them where the references came from. Rick and Morty is a prime example of this.
The Seinfeld episode with the wedding in India, where events are presented starting at the end and leading backward in time to the beginning, is based on the movie "Betrayal" with Jeremy Irons and Ben Kingsley, which begins at the end of the story and ends with the beginning. The screenplay was written by Harold Pinter. A character in the Seinfeld episode, I think the groom, is named Pinter. This wouldn't be a side-by-side scene comparison, so doesn't belong in this collection, but it's another clever movie reference in Seinfeld.
YES! Another good catch!
I love that episode, just watched it coincidentally.
@@beauwalker9820 Notice how they brought back Susan Ross just for that one regressive vignette at the diner. Looks like there were no hard feelings after all (between Heidi Swedburg and Seinfeld).
The episode, to clarify, is also called The Betrayal.
@@pkmntrainermark8881 I didn't realize that! A direct reference☺
The Godfather references were always so spot on! The utter climax and confusion of that episode for Kramer to end up being the Godfather was hilarious as hell 😂
What is "utter climax?"

they probably just looked for an article talking about movie references on seinfield and did this video
@@sliverbox271991 That is possible, but the work behind the editing is worth noticing.

even better having Wayne Knight being in most of the movies they reference lol.
Steven Spielberg saw Wayne Knight in "Basic Instinct" and thought, "What if Sharon Stone was a dinosaur?" and then cast Knight in "Jurassic Park."
Only basic instinct and jfk?

We live so far away and don't even know each other, but we both enjoy this great show that your mother loved. In a way she still lives whenever a movie reference makes you, me and so many people laugh.

This just further expresses how genius the writing of Seinfeld truly was
I can't believe it never clicked in my head that Wayne Knight was in two of the very same scenes they were parodying. That adds a whole new dimension to it.
Seinfeld was next level clever
This is how you do references, so subtly that the people who don’t know the reference could easily see it as part of the show
It's pretty on the nose, you just have to actually know the movies
The JFK one wasn’t exactly subtle, but yeah, a lot were.
The reference may register on a subconscious level
@@billcook4768 In the case of JFK I just thought that they were making fun of the "magic bullet theory" as opposed to re-enacting a scene from a movie.
Mike Hunt “back and to the left” wasn’t enough to make you think it was from a movie?
As a huge Seinfeld fan, and a decent amount of movie knowledge, I'm shocked by how many of these I had no idea were references! Gonna have to watch some of these movies now!
I knew a lot, haven't seen all the movies but my parents brought me up to speed on a few references along the way. Still missed some though!
the writing in this show was SUPERB, comedy is the hardest thing to write, anyone can make a person cry..but make them laugh..that's skill
What? Making an audience cry is not easy. That's insane. A lot of people are cynical or numb as shit and never cry. Not in real life or watching a dumb-ass movie. Why do we always have to put something down in an effort to praise something? Makes the praising completely hollow and worthless. Gaining access to people's true emotions is hard. Period. I'd like to see any of you loser elitists try.
No they can’t lol. Making a funny joke is way harder than making someone cry in cinema.
Seinfeld really was the best show ever, all the little details and ingenious comedic storylines. No one's done it better.
Can't agree more
Truth
I love how Seinfeld is just comedy bit after comedy bit, sometimes through the script and dialogue there'd be a number of jokes in a matter of seconds. It's always a back and forth type deal too. Millennials don't seem to get it
@@hippiecheezburger5457 Also it was a comedy. Not like other comedies like Friends, Fraiser, even Cosby where there were sad moments. Seinfeld was a true comedy, nothing more! Only sad moment was when it ended!
@@hippiecheezburger5457 Truth! I thank God I'm not a millennial! And certainly am glad I was around from '89 to '98 and grew up watching Seinfeld!
Wayne Knight being in the JFK movie as well is just fucking hilarious, going real meta there. Growing up as a small kid in northern europe I realized that many of these scenes were referencing something but never knew from where. Scenes in them selfes are truly funny but seeing this clip makes you appreciate them 10x more!
And him being in the same 'place' in both. And did you also catch that Wayne Knight was in both Basic Instinct and in the Seinfeld reference to it as well?
@@amsivertson yeah!
Yeah, and Wayne Knight's character in JFK is "Numa" Lol 😂
What’s amazing is that Wayne Knight was not only in one of the biggest TV shows, but was also in some of the biggest movies (Jurassic Park, Basic Instinct, and JFK) all around the same time!
I just realized Wayne Knight was in JFK. I guess I forgot and for him to be Newman makes me think did they come up with that scene because Wayne was in JFK? Or did it all just come together and be a coincidence?
I'm a young Seinfeld fan. I've seen all seasons multiple times but never took the time to research some of the less obvious references. Thank you for this. 🙏🏾
They forgot one: “Wolf”: in “The Muffin Tops”, Jerry starts shaving his chest. His girlfriend likes him with a smooth chest and Jerry tricks her into thinking he’s naturally hairless. However, they’re trapped on Kramer’s tour bus and Jerry’s chest starts to itch. He runs away and jumps around like Jack Nicholson in “Wolf”
when Nicholson starts to transform into a werewolf. Only Jerry howls as he scratches his chest and gets relief.
I was thinking the same thing.
Also Cape Fear
"Jerry!
Hello!"
Even when you're aware of the reference, what's really impressive is seeing these side-by-side and getting to appreciate just how close they got many of the shots. The staging, the framing, the editing... they really put in the work.
Not really?
Makes me wonder why they never did a Jurassic park reference for Wayne Knight considering his spoof of JFK and Basic Instinct scenes.
This was brilliant! Actually, it was “Gold, Jerry…GOLD!!!”
I'm a size 42 now, I'm huge!
Well, to be bluntly frank and honest, clever uses of the footage that went into crafting this piece of nearly perfect montage of movie segments, which merged beautifully with the Seinfeld clips, to be sure, that said, where I feel where the proverbial ball was dropped was in the lack of Schindler's List. I mean, seriously?! The English Patient is one thing, but how can you even remotely forget to include such a timeless art and memorable piece of cinematic wonder as Schindler's List?! It just doesn't work without it. That's just not right... especially where the whole Jewish angle is concerned. Don't mean to sound rude, & as much as I surely love the "show about nothing", but for me, at best, I'd say this was more like Fool's Gold... which would be perfect for Seinfeld's zany antics! Decent attempt, though.
Awesome. Surprised to see Cape Fear missing. One of the best Seinfeld movie references (Jerry! Hello!😂).
That took an awful lot of time to edit and piece together. Appreciate the hard work that went into this 11 minutes.
I love how Jerry overly hams it up when he's saying a movie line.
His voice crack on 'I will find you!' is absolutely priceless.
Jerry was always the weakest acting of the cast. But when you take it as his shtick, as a whole, it's kind of endearing.
@@claytonfs He was also hilarious. But 30 years of imitators have made him seem generic in retrospect. At the time he was unique and hilarious.
Yeah, you know. Comedians can't act...
He's kinda laughing through all his movie lines, it's hilarious.
Glad TH-cam recommended this to me. As a kid I didn't know most scenes were homages to classic films. As an adult I can now appreciate it more. Nice job editing!
That's literally what I was thinking I watched alot of Seinfeld reruns but never knew how much they parodied movies
Me too. I only got the overt references like "khaaaannn"
Yeah even today I would have probably only recognized a third of them let alone when I was a teenager.
The genius of Seinfeld. It’s like a onion, as you uncover another layer there are tears of joy.
Am I the only one that felt like crying at the end? That was beautiful.
You forgot Cape fear with Robert de niro in jail and uncle Leo doing the pull ups, when Jerry snitiched in him in the book store
Elaine references that too during The Red Dot when her coworker Dick comes to the office drunk.
Jerry! You ratted me out!
Hello?
It's also a reference to Night of the Hunter.

This is fantastic!! I've seen every Seinfeld episode so many times and while I recognized a number of these moments, I can't believe I didn't know there were so many more done in homage to the films. Well done Yaron!
This show was pure comedy genius , always love it when they allow the comedians in charge to do whatever they want to do,give them complete control, this show was one big inside joke that somehow tens of millions understood
It was gold, Jerry. Gold!
What about that scene when Elaine's close talker boyfriend speaks like in Schindler's list. " This watch would have paid for trip, this ring means one more dinner"
That one's my favorite!
Exactly
That one was great!
Very good catch. I forgot that one.
And now I get that part. Thank you!
I’ve watched Seinfeld at least 7x through and didn’t know 85% of these references. Great video.
yeah man. I'm a hardcore fan, seen repeat after repeat for 20 years and seeing this, gave me like 11 mins straight of goosebumps. seriously insane compilation.
Agreed!
Same
In the Line of Fire- I didn't watch that movie enough.
Same here :-) I have an excuse though: I haven't seen any of these movies :-) Still, makes me appreicate "Seinfeld" even more (as if that were still possible).
You have missed two (that I know).
1. The train sequence in "'Blame it on the Rain" in which Rochelle, mid meal, is asked to sign her check, but when she realizes her signature doesn't look good and asks to redo it, but is refused, is the 'Bubble Boy' episode.
2. In 'Prognosis Negative', when Harrison Ford is waiting for the phone to bring him the news, and some asshole hogs the phone, is exactly like the 'Seinfeld' 'Chinese Restaurant' scene.
This is one of my favorite videos on all of TH-cam’s existence

Damn I only spotted about 30% of these when watching. Amazing job putting this together! They clearly had a great time making Seinfeld.
Until the end... had to fight jerry and Larry to get a fair share
I know right? Most of these I just assumed was Seinfeld being absolutely nuts XD

Yup, Jerry had such a great time he couldn't even keep that grin off his face half the time. :')
One of my favorite things about this show. Thank you, Yaron Baruch for taking the time to put this together
Thank you for watching!
Feels like the type of high-production cinematic montage you'd see at the Academy Awards. Well done!
It’s too bad they weren’t able to get a Jurassic Park reference in to complete the Wayne Knight pantheon.
Maybe they could've done in episode where Newman tried to get rid of the dog that bothered Elaine, in sense that some bigger dog chase after Newman or something.
I don't know about the accuracy of this, but I read a long time ago that Wayne Knight was the first actor cast in Jurassic Park because Steven Spielberg watched the episode where his mail truck catches un fire and he starts screaming frantically. He immediately thought of Dennis Nedry screaming at the sight of dinosaurs.
At some point, Jerry should have said to Newman, “Our lives are in your hands, and you have BUTTERFINGERS?!” and cut to Newman eating a Butterfinger chocolate bar.
@@RafaCarrillo I think the flaming mail truck came after Jurassic Park. I say that based on the fact that Wayne was much heftier in Jurassic Park but was a bit lighter in the flaming truck episode.
Yeah like a shaving cream/barbosal reference would’ve been pretty easy
I never realized how much movie references there were in Seinfeld. Some of them I didn’t even knew they were references. And a lot I had no idea Wayne Knight recreate twice on the show.
You did an exceedingly lovely job; your choice in the ending music track is absolutely brilliant. This gave me joy to watch!
I've watched Seinfeld for 20 years and didn't know most of these references. I figured some were but to see them like this is just awesome. Thank you.
I’m a huge fan of Seinfeld and only knew some of the obvious references. I always thought the show was genius, but this is just next level. And Wayne reprising the roles - mind blown!
Yeah Kramer snd the cable company I had no idea was from a movie!!
Not to mention Wilford Brimley and Jon Voight popping up.
And this shows what a great actor Wayne Knight is. His expressions in both scenes are polar opposites: one with a serious tone and the other completely comedic. And always fitting perfectly into the scenes context.
Newman having a dinosaur poster in his apartment is funny too.
A t-rex i think.
Right.... True & Agree
I already love this show, but this just raises my appreciation for it even more
_"Face the wall, pimp!"_
You have to have lived through a certain time period. Futurama is the same way. Tons of references in it belong to 1960s-1980s culture, nerd culture of that time, and movies and other issues. Basically, it stops being funny and just starts being a weird show when you're too young to know anything about those eras. Same with seinfeld.

Fantastic edit! Love all of Seinfeld’s brilliant film references! Considering The Graduate is one of Jerry’s favorite films, I’m surprised that in 9 seasons, they never once did a scene with Jerry behind a pane of glass yelling for Elaine.
This was VERY well done.
Thank you for taking the time to make this happen.
I never put together that a lot of these were direct movies parodies, even from the movies that I've seen a million times.
Hell, I love JFK, and Seinfeld, and of course I knew that episode was referencing the movie.
But from whatever reason, I never put it in my head that Wayne Knight was playing the same role in both!
Same!
Great job! There’s another movie reference I’d like to add: When Paul O’Neill of the NY Yankees is told by Kramer that he has to hit 2 home runs for a little boy who’s sick in the hospital, that’s a scene from Pride of the Yankees, where Lou Gehrig promises to hit 2 home runs in the World Series for little Billy in the hospital.
See I woulda never known!
The show about nothing takes a whole new meaning.
Well done.
you're right, I couldn't put my hands on that clip so it didn't make it into the video.
@@yaronbaruch This was wonderful. I have thought about this same concept before but you pulled it off masterfully. You may have gotten some of these already but there is a scene where Kramer runs away from Jerry that mimics Fredo running from Michael in Havana in The Godfather II. There is also the quote about the dead parrot Fredo - "Fredo was weak and stupid - he shouldn't have eaten that key" which is also a Godfather II paraphrase. Thank you!
The ol’ “isn’t cinema wonderous” music playing against Seinfeld’s goofiness is peak absurdity.
Seinfeld recreating some of the most iconic movie scenes of all time as purely comedic is also peak absurdity. One could argue that this is what makes it fit so well.
Casablumpin - did you paint your avatar? It’s pretty cool! It’s from “Boardwalk Empire” if memory serves.
This is outstanding work! A joy to watch for many reasons; and it quickly becomes apparent that the excellent composition/production of the work is one of the main reasons for that joy. Bravo! on a wonderful walk down memory lane...thank you.
The fact they got Wilfred Brimley to play the postmaster general in the Absence of Malice parody is amazing. Really great touch.
When your love of classic films is so great, the parodies come off as original material. Great testament to Seinfeld and company. Many of those references went over my head when the show was in its original run. Now as a middle aged man, I can now appreciate the love that went into passing that knowledge to the next generation! Platoon when Kramer asks George’s dad why he won’t cook the Jewish food, and Frank’s recollection of the troops he cooked for..
Yeah, but it's not similar enough to the original scene
Haha, yes one of the best in the business.
Jerry Stiller, may he rest in peace.
@@yaronbaruch someone mention Schindler's list. With the close talker...that one was 🤣
@@yaronbaruch uses the same music, it seems to be a reference
@@fajita2 yes I think it does 'reference' the movie also, not an interpretive re-creation (right word?)...
I'll add one I just saw. Season 5 Episode 3 - The Glasses. About ten minutes in, George who is blind as a bat without his glasses spots a dime across the room in Jerry's apratment mirroring that scene from The Great Escape with James Garner when Donald Pleasence's character pretends to see a dime across the barrack's room even though he has gone blind as a bat from all the forgery work he did.
Good pick-up never made that connection.
@@harryd1664 well maybe its because youre...
blind as a bat.
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
It was a pin that Pleasence saw.
@@liduck52 You're right, of course. After 50 years the memory tends to get a little unreliable.
Good catch!
Whaaa, this is so awesome!! Thank you for putting these together, it's so great to watch.
Nice job pulling these together - so many references I didn’t know.
Always loved Seinfeld, but my appreciation just went up a notch.
I never even realized The guy who played Newman was in JFK that makes this joke even more hilarious
This video is a hidden gem of youtube. Congratulations for the time spent on editing and data gathering. Great work!
Seinfeld is my favorite show of all time, and I really appreciate the work you put into this.
LMAO to how many times Wayne Knight (Newman) was parodying his own performance from other flicks! Hahaha!
Twice
I’ve watched every Seinfeld episode, some more than once, and I knew some of the more obvious movie references but had no idea there are so many. Thank you for this excellent video of enlightenment! Also, I never made the connection that Wayne Knight was actually in many of these Seinfeld scenes where he was the actor in tribute movie, like JFK-amazing.
There was a poster of a T. rex in Newman's apartment
Some more than once? Not a very good Seinfeld fan.
Wow this was so good!!! It’s going to make me appreciate this show so much more now.
I feel so sad that I’ve only seen a tiny fraction of these movies
I love it! I did not know many of those references. Thanks for sharing.
