    FAQ:
    Who is this lady?
Gina Petitti was born in 1935 in Faeto, Italy. Her family ran a farm in Italy and she met her husband, Vito, in the same town. In 1970 Gina, Vito, and her 4 children immigrated to America. Gina’s husband passed away in 2012, but she is surrounded by a large family, which includes 9 grandchildren, and lives 5 minutes away from her eldest daughter in New Jersey. Gina spends her time cooking, gardening, and being an active member of her local Church.
Where does Gina get her recipes?
Most of these recipes are from what she learned growing up in Italy, but some of them have evolved over time. She has also learned new recipes from friends and family in America. She is always eager to try new things.
Why is no one helping her in the video?
Grandma Gina doesn’t want help! Usually, it’s because we will slow her down or not do it “her way.” For the videos we only show her, but when the camera cuts we jump in and help form the cookies or prep for the next step.
Why don’t we buy her a new...?
Grandma Gina has a closet and garage full of new gadgets, spoons, forks, pots, etc… but she doesn’t like them because she is used to doing it with her old tools. She has fun getting her hands dirty!
    Who is behind the camera?
Her retired son-in-law films, her daughter helps her prep, and she usually has one or two grandkids in the kitchen.
    Does Gina read the comments?
We print out and show her how much love she gets from all her viewers, and she is very thankful and hopes you enjoy her cooking! Your comments bring her lots of joy, laughter, and inspiration to make more videos to share with you.
Thank you for watching, we hope you subscribe, and we will see you in our next video!

Na the daughter is a bit of a bully in my opinion. The boys are great with her. Watch enough and you will know when she filming. I am from the south and married an Italian from NY who used to talk about his grandma’s “gravy”. I always thought gravy was brown and you put it on fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Now I know what he was talking about and I cook “Grandma’s Sunday Sauce/Gravy with Meatballs”. She is so sweet and I play the video in the kitchen when I make this and pretend we are cooking together.

    • @alanecook5692

I’m Italian and in our family we call it sauce. Gravy is for roasts and other meat. I do appreciate other people’s ways of doing things! Some people use water in their recipe of meatballs, others milk. Some use breadcrumbs . We, in my family soak bread in water and saturate it, then squeeze all of the liquid out (as much as you can!) of sliced bread. No breadcrumbs! 😊 by the way, I live in CT.

Gina you remind me so much of my grandma who was from CompobassoFiorito Sicily, my grandpa was Abruzzi. Every Sunday the whole family would get together for Sunday Sauce. Including my cousins aunts and uncles and grandparents there were 23 of us. I think we ate in shifts, men first, kids then all the women. In any case no one was allowed in the kitchen unless you were from the immediate family or 100% italian.. We also always had fresh italian bread from the corner store and italian cookies for desert. After dinner the men played cards and drank then we went into the living room, my father played guitar and my grandpa and uncles would sing italian songs. I think the problem with our country today is the lack of tradition and culture and a home cooked meal with warmth and love. Thank you for your great recipes and videos. May God Bless you. Ciantani. Alfredo

I haven't heard the sound of my Gramma Terese's beautiful voice since 1970...until now: Until I "met" Ms. Gina on TH-cam. Listening to her speak, her lovely singing, and the decades melt away and I'm back in Gramma's kitchen. She, too, had her own way of doing things and nothing would change her mind. Tongs? No way. Two forks are the only way to do it. And forget the closet full of giant percolator coffee pots she was given as gifts. It was the small aluminum pot or nothing :) These videos always take me back to that happy time in my childhood and for that I am beyond grateful. Priceless! Now off to buy the book! Thank you and God bless.

This is called Ragu alla Napoletana. It was originally from Campania and southern Lazio, but it is found all over southern Italy. Many Italian-Americans have roots from that area of Italy, and the original immigrants brought this recipe with them to the U.S., where it is still made to this day among Italian-American families.

I second that! Love to listen to her sing and love the joy that she has for cooking. Probably more than her joy for cooking is her joy for cooking for people. My great-grandmother wasn't Italian, but was Slovak. Just like Gina, she knew not only knew how to cook really good but the cherry on top was the the joy of service she had in cooking for both her family and people in general. If somebody came to visit, she would run to the kitchen to prepare food for them. On a regular basis, she would cook for all of the widows that lived near her and have them over or have somebody deliver the food to them. Hopefully we can get back to this kind of "old-world" mentality of cooking real food, instead of the fast-paced lives that most of us are living that is causing anxiety, depression, and a sense of disconnect from people and the food we eat.

I am so thankful to have found your videos. You really remind me so much of my mother and my grandmother. Your gravy is exactly our recipe to the T, homemade sauce and all. Watching you cook all your recipes brought tears to my eyes as it was like watching my mom cook for us again. My mom passed away 5 years ago and my dad passed away almost 10 years ago. Your videos really touched me so much and brought back so many wonderful memories, thank you.
My parents came to America from Italy in the late 60's and they taught us all their traditions such as: canning & preserving everything. We would make homemade tagliatelle, lasagna and ravioli. Everything came fresh from the garden. We had such a huge garden growing up. My dad would also make his homemade vino, soppressata and capocollo every year at the exact time. We all had to help out, especially when it came time to the week long project of canning 500 mason jars of tomatoe puree. I'm very thankful to have been taught these traditions along with knowing how to speak the language. It's very important to pass these wonderful traditions down. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to watching you cook up some more delicious and traditional recipes. Ciao ciao.

Looks so good. Id like to make meatballs simmered in tomato sauce, but I don't make my own tomato sauce so I'm wondering what I would use in a can... would it be crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce? ... Maybe both in together? I'm thinking only crushed tomatoes would be too thick? ...It would take a lot of cans to have enough sauce to cover meatball, lol.

All four of my grandparents are from Italy though I was born in the United States. My grandmother on my mothers side had 14 children. I loved my mothers meatballs and sauce, but when it came to meatballs I really loved my Aunt Mary’ even more. My mother would simmer her pasta sauce for two to three days at times and I could smell the wonderful aroma outside if she had the door or windows open. I’m 60 years old now and I miss my large Italian family. Unfortunately I lost contact with the many cousins I have.

I used to work as a bartender at the Forrest theatre in Philadelphia, and all the ushers were Italian grandmothers from south philly. I would sit down in the lounge with these women, all wearing their black dresses with white laced collars, as they would talk about recipes, and cooking. I learned Italian cooking from them. They used to argue over who actually knew how to make things correctly, who was a better cook...it was wonderful. Watching your videos reminded me of them. Glad to know I learned from great true Italian grandmothers as you are showing here. Thank you for a great show.

He asked you can make me anything anyway. 41 years we’ve been married. He’s a very happy man.

I am in a wheelchair and I still make my own gravy. I'm supposed to have Home Care 40 hours per week so when I do have somebody which I don't right now they help me do this in the summer. The past 2 years I haven't had anybody in the summer so I'm still using what I canned and it is very fresh and sweet. I know people who add sugar to Tomato things and I know people who would kill me for doing that so I don't. If they are too acidic and not sweet enough I add a pinch of baking soda. But they're still sweet and bright red and lovely! And I do it with those meats for Sunday gravy and I have to freeze some because I have no family. Sunday gravy isn't a lot of work if you already have your own tomatoes. It's work but not much more than any other meal. :-) I love you Gina! :-)

Elizabeth Shaw, I hope you get someone to help you! If you run out of your home canned tomatoes before you get a chance to make more, try Pastene ground peeled kitchen ready tomatoes. If they're not in the stores where you live, you can get them on the Internet. They're consistently good, just the right amount of sweetness. I find I don't need to add sugar. Some people use tomato paste in their gravy but I find it makes the gravy bitter and too acid. I used to use one small can of tomato paste for each quart of tomatoes. And I would have to add one teaspoon of sugar for each can of tomato paste. Stay well and keep cooking!

On Sunday morning my mother and grandmother would go to early mass in order to come back home to make sunday salsa. My father would take me and my brothers to high mass at 11am. When we returned home my grandmother would greet us at the door with her fried meatbals on forks for me and my brothers. It's was always such a treat, not to mention the aroma that filled the house from all the cooking. I am so blessed to have had such a loving family growing up. My great grandmother lived with us and spoke little english, so we all spoke Italian at home. I remember when I was about four years old. My great grandmother who was 89 yrs old would sit me on her lap and ask me "quanto ti ami" and I would anwser " asi asi tanto con tutti il cuoro" She was so loving. We spoke in the napolitano dialect. Nerdless to say I grew up with a strong sense of my heritage and for that I am truly grateful. So Gina when I watch you make Sunday gravy I'm so happy. Gina, I can't tell enough how wonderful you are. When I read the comments from your fans, it's obvious the love to bring to everyone. God bless you always.
