Last Friday I visited my mother's dear friend and my lifelong 2nd mum and Nona, Noemi. She is 92 and gave me this very dish for lunch. I said to her "I have had risotto in many restaurants, but none of them ever come up to yours". She said "it's because I'm Italian and I put a lot of love in there."
Such a blessing to have a healthy Grandmother who is still around to teach and pass down her knowledge…. So many of us would love to still have our Grandmothers to enjoy in our lives and would for sure appreciate more in our older ages.
I know exactly what you mean. All my grandmother’s recipes and more importantly, my aun’t recipes are lost when they unfortunately passed. I wish I could have videotaped my aunt’s cooking so I could understand her magic and show it to others. I thank this channel, but more importantly, I thank Gina for teaching me, us, and future generations of real home Italian cooking.
Hello Gina. I love you so much. Everytime I hear you start singing. I cry. My grandmother. Always sang so beautiful. Whenever she cooked. She would get up Sunday morning at 4:30. To make the pasta and she would be singing when she rolled the cavetelli Then she would make chicken and roast potatos. Italian bread and a big salad. Oh how I wish I had my grandmother with me today. I would cook with her all the time. She was very strict and she taught me how to make her stuffed artichokes and to do her eggplant Parmigiano When I was young And her pasta fajoli. I miss her. You bring me good memories Gina. God bless you sweetheart. Linda from Rhode Island
That’s a sweet tribute to your Grandma, I have similar memories of my Noni and I miss her. I used to love making homemade raviolis with her. When I became a young adult I tried to write down her recipes but she never measured anything. I would ask ‘how much?’ and she would say ‘oh about this much’ and show with her hand! ☺️
Yes! My Grandma, so many years ago lived in Rhode Island (her parents were but young kids from Italy in those early years) and they eventually moved to NH (Nashua) where many happy times unfolded over the years. I remember her children (my mother and sibs) reflecting on their youth, when my grandmother was always singing at the top of her lungs while cooking, mortifying them at the time!. I’d so love to hear that again today!
When I watch you cook, Gina, what I feel is hundreds of years of cooking history shared mother to daughter, mother-in-law to daughter-in-law, generation to generation, over and over. It's a beautiful thing! 💞
My favorite Gina words…Olive olio…spoonya…garlica…blacka peppah. You are treasured Grandma Gina. I love hearing you talk and Sing❤️Thank you for sharing YOU!!
Gina I was cooking your recipes but I moved to another state & had a bus incident &now waiting aged care package & I get cooked meals delivered But only cook now & then but I've got all the ingredients to make this mushroom risotto which I made for years but after watching you Gina I'll cook your recipe on the weekend I love you & your family for sharing your recipes & helping younger generation to be able cook real Italian food Bless you keep safe & well 🕊🙏❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹I'm 83 😍
This lovely lady reminds me so much of my Noni. The accent, the jesters…and my Noni was a fabulous cook. She passed at 93 from a broken hip, otherwise super healthy woman. That was 30 years ago. I still miss her and remember her always lovingly scolding me for letting my dog on the beds! 🥰
You can't imagine how much we love you Nonna Gina,. You make our life a whole brighter place. Thank you for always being there for us and having a caring heart. Ti amiamo piu. di quanto pensi.🇮🇹 💚🤍❤🇮🇹
It's always a special day when I see Grandma Gina cooking a new dish for us♥ Thank you! You remind me soo much of my own grandma, who passed at 98, still cooking like this until the end!
She reminds me of my great Aunt as well same accent and speech and so many others likenesses. Brings back wonderful memories of my Italian Immigrant Non and Nonny. Sadly they are all gourmet and customs have been lost over the years but still have recipes in my head. I love it when she says " you no like, you no put, you like you put. "
So I get these meals for senior citizens and today.I had this recipe and string beans I had never had Risotto, It was very good. I added a little more seasoning for my taste like a little black pepper, a little seasoned salt. Some accents some garlic powder. Some onion powder, but this was actually really, really good. I had never heard of it, but I just put the ingredients in my list. Now I have all the other ingredients except with the rice. That rice is expensive but we're gon to get it.I love her recipe
