Excellent job, brother. Thanks for sharing your time on the road.

Steve, at your age and experience level you should know that putting a driver in your truck usually does not end well, I owned a 1989 k100 for 10 years hauling steel in the youngstown area, sold it at 864,000 miles it was a great truck, I'm an old school flat bed driver with 45 years , now retired in the phoenix area, enjoy your channel

My grandparents used to run a small company who delivered for Coors. I was 12 or so. I remember they had a K100 with just under a million miles. The rest of the trucks were KW conventional. The coolest truck for me was a W900 aerodyne. 3406B. I’m not a driver, but it does my heart good to see an old truck with the 425 Cat still getting it done.

Back in 1989 was the last time I drove long hall. I had a K100 Aerodyne with a Detroit 12.7. I loved driving that rig and it served me well till I went into the Army. I have not driven since and I still remember my days of driving all over the US. Sure was a sweet rig for the time. Missed it a lot while I was in the Army. So many good memories.

  • @MarkK01
    @MarkK01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I always give trucks more then enough room to do there thing. I once had a trucker driver follow me into a fuel station way out of town to shake my hand and thank me for respecting his space. I know how heavy these trucks can get and I know it takes a long time to get them stopped. I do not wanna get hit by one so the easy thing to do is RESPECT there space. One thing about the jake brakes. If you run them in the city I live in in Canada you are getting a $1000.00 fine.

379 Pete. I drove a mid 90's for a while and but I no longer driver for that company and now I have a bunch of expensive parts for a 379 sitting in my garage that I bought for the truck waiting to be used... And you gotta love when those cars that cut you off like that.. And DOT always feel the need to "educate" truck drivers

Great video, Steve. I was born and raised in Houston, back in the early 1940’s. Lived there until 1975, when I moved to the Fort Worth area. Now, I live in NW Arkansas, and haven’t been back to H-Town since 2004. Lots of memories from Houston, but it sure ain’t what it was when I lived there. Thanks for the great video, and helping me bring back memories of my years there. Look forward to the next video. Drive safe.

I'd run a 99 Argosy. Detroit 60 12.7. I'm running a 10 speed deleted 579 at the moment, but I'd run an Argosy over this Pete any day of the week. I'd love to be able to find a carrier with even older trucks like Orwell to drive, but that's literally impossible. Thanks for the content. Safe travels.

I drove a 78 K100 big cam 400 with a 13spd Eaton for eight years. Honestly, as far as comfort, today’s rigs are so much more superior and easier on the driver. Being retired I guess that’s my two cents. 😂

    Hi Steve,
Love your videos where you went thru Houston, TX. I don't live far away but Houston is my hometown, so it's great to see the skyline and roads..
Seeing that "COVID 1984" that someone has sprayed was awesome. Couldn't agree more !
I only stumbled across your page yesterday and have enjoyed what I've watched so far. I love big trucks.
Love that you named your truck Orwell since it is a 1984 year model.
(I named my 2007 yr. model SUV "007". I just took the 2 off )
Now I've got to get caught up with your videos !
You're an excellent narrator of your trips and everything.

Good video, I worked in Houston its big with lots to do. As far as trains go, I found a spot in Houston called the "5th Ward", 3 major railways cross on a massive interlocking; KCS, Union Pacific and BNSF, also Amtraks Sunset Limited passes through with a station 5 minutes down the road and a local brewery as well. Again good work buddy.

    Any old truck is fine.
I drove for 30+ years. My dad and I restored and worked 3 trucks,
#1) a ‘71 KW conventional, originally had a 280 Cummins/13 speed, which we later pulled out and built a small cam 400.
    #2) a ‘72 Conventional with a 350 small cam and 5x4 trannies.
    #3) a 62 Pete conventional with a 335 Cummins and 5x4 trannies.
Right now I’m starting on a 74 Pete model 352!
    3406B with a 13 speed and it’s a single screw.
My point is as far as what I like, I prefer the older trucks. More character and less electronics.
My dream truck is a mid 70’s Extended hood KW. Big horses with a 5x4, pulling a flatbed.
Most of my experience was flatbeds/drop decks hauling anything that can be tied down.
A lot of oversized, and a lot of pneumatics.
Doing what you’re doing, getting in and out many times to drop trl and gooseneck, I would prefer a conventional. That’s a lot of climbing up! I’m too old for that.

Any second truck will be prepped and maintained by you to the same standard as Orwell, so choose what you are happy to work on. Enough good people have seen what you are about and will have decided whether they would or would not like to work for you. Like Tim, you will get mostly decent folk respond and you'll easily smell out the rotten ones.

Hey Steve! I live in Houston. Thought I may have seen your truck driving through a while back, turns I did. Orwell looks even better in person!

I hauled oversized precast for parking garages out of Brookshire there and we use to come out on that Pederson road next to the Loves there to go into jobsites in Houston, lived in the truck down there for two years working out of there...

You've got followers in Houston. It's cold here sometimes but only a couple of days at a time. Lots of lakes in Texas and from Katy, where you were, to Galveston Bay or the Gulf coast is only an hour away. I move from PA a long time ago any haven't missed the ice and snow once. Houston is a very, very big place with lots of job opportunities.

One like Orwell with a cab and sleeper that is stretched behind the fuel tanks or a w900 long hood and wow that trucker going over the tracks with the train horn blowing is just mental to do on the truckers part

I just had my class B in Maine but I used to help my cousins that have a construction company move equipment with the low bed and I'll be here if you use A3H chain and you break it up running across the equipment you just hook the 3H chain to attract with a binder to let you use one chain broke up

I'm actually smiling at the former Be Someone railroad bridge now being so Orwellian :D Nice to see the Pierce Elevated fixed up. It was in bad condition for a very long time! If you're ever in the Spring area, you should go check out Spring Junction at Old Town Spring. There's a big parking area there where you can park Orwell and get trains on UP's Navasota and Palestine Subs. And if your real nice, I might show up and meet you!

Steve I always liked the Ford L9000 with the Cummins they were popular here in Australia in the 80,and 90s nothing flash but they made a lot of people good money I worked for a national car carrier in the 90s and we used L9000 with series 60 Detroit's pulling 3 trailers of cars from Adelaide to Darwin .like old cars old trucks just have something special about them ,if I LIVED in the States I'd like to drive for you I love Orwell he sounds great.
    Cheers Kym

I am getting into the industry soon, but it's a goal to own an older truck in the next couple years. Experience is experience I suppose, but I'd love to get it in an older, well-kept rig like Orwell or similar. That's an opportunity I'd love to have, but no experience means nobody will trust you to care for the equipment like you own it. Keep up the awesome content, makes me feel like I drive for ya already!

With my heart attack in November 2012 lost use of my right foot. Can't pivot between fuel and brake unless it was automatic.
Arizona department of transportation pulled my license in 2015.
    Sure do miss driving

If I wasn't retired I would really consider driving for you, when it comes to trucks(cabovers) I like early 90's believe it or not I actually like the gmc Astro's, fixed right they could be sweet. I'd even relocate if need be. Wouldn't care what I'd drive I just want a decent paycheck. 10/4
