    • @Brenticus12
      @Brenticus12 2 ปีที่แล้ว +60

      @@murderedcarrot9684 Better scalability in damage values mostly, is why. Endgame content involves multiple players beating on the same boss. Those bosses have to be chunky HP wise otherwise they're just burnt through (Which is already a problem in all MMORPGs as content gets outdated over time) quickly and none of the mechanics matter.
      It'd be unsatisfying for people to see themselves doing like 5hp's worth of damage even once they're endgame. But they also can't make that the norm because you need lower damage values to allow for some scalability in damage from levelling.
      So yeah, it's to tap into human psychology but it's also because it's a lot better for scaling damage values across a wide range of level and content difficulty. Singleplayer games don't have to deal with the same issue to the same degree.

    Remember that the cities in the main Elder Scrolls games are smaller than they actually are in the lore, for example, the Imperial City has millions of inhabitants in the lore, but in Oblivion only a hundred appear. In ESO the cities can be bigger because it is an MMO. So yes, the huge buildings of Balmora are accurate.
    Also, in the time that occurs ESO the Argonians are no longer slaves, the Dunmer, Nords and Argonians made the Ebonheart Pact and now work together against the Daggerfall Covenant (Redguards, Orcs and Bretons) and the Aldmeri Dominion (Altmers , Bosmer and Khajiits), Cyrodiil is the neutral province.
    Obviously, even with the pact, Dunmer and Argonians don't fully trust each other, and even some Dunmer still have Argonian slaves, but is illegal.

    MMO’s aren’t for everyone. I was going through morrowind -> oblivion -> skyrim when I decided i might as well add ESO to the list. At the time, this Vardenfell stuff had just come out, so I was coaxed in by nostalgia and hooked by the mechanics, visuals, and (sometimes) some stories. I’m still not into MMO’s, and I don’t see myself playing anything besides ESO, but I think it’s really good fun for any TES fan, as you get to see what some place might look like in future games. I mean, you get to explore all of valenwood, that’s pretty cool in my opinion.
    I’d be really interested in seeing you play around and explore some familiar locations, especially Vardenfell, but other places too. Also try Cyrodiil when you’ve leveled up some more, that shit’s real interesting.
    Also, check that Zanispulu or something dungeon that guy told you about, you won’t regret it :)

      The game has grown *a lot* since then and is just coming into its golden age. Tons of quests, crafting, fun harvesting mechanics, amazing dungeons (and tons of them), gritty PvP, and good events/celebrations. The first 5-10 hours are confusing, and at times frustrating, as with any large-scale and complex game. But with ESO it is really worth getting over that hurdle. The community is solid too. It is also not really beat-able, as in when other Elder Scrolls games would start having an endgame you can cheese and the struggle to grow can slow down, ESO is now huge enough that there are still 800 other things to find and do. Best stuff in it? Very challenging high-level team content (Trials) that is super rewarding and gives golden jewelry.
      The final boss in this game is housing. You can get a mega mansion super structure with all furniture you crafted yourself.

      i just wish the game had an auction house. you can always make/join a guild and rent a trading stall. or you can directly link items in the global chat. but an auction house gives more freedom for the lone wolf, which i've always liked. some people don't like to be obligated to a guild and enjoy random encounters, as well as the satisfaction of carving your own individual path.
      all of that aside, TES is my favorite setting and lore. and i think they did a good job not just copy-pasting MMO staples from WoW, FF, Eve, etc. i especially enjoy the fact that enemies and quest rewards scale to your level. so if you like morrowind, you can start there. or go straight to skyrim and start there. or anywhere, for that matter.

    • @yousifosama4414
      @yousifosama4414 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@tisFrancesfault I’d disagree. Generally speaking, artists in Zenimax do a good job of mimicking the art style of the games that exist. Vardenfel has more color and clutter, but it still looks incredibly alien, and Red Mountain is no longer just something on a map and occasional conversation topic for the first 50+ hours as it was in morrowind, it’s now a looming volcano that can be seen pretty much anywhere in the island and is always ominous. Hammerfell may look alike a generic desert, but it’s in line with the deposition in TES: Daggerfall and Redguard.
      Its style is TES through and through, if it’s generic for you that’s understandable but it is faithful.

    Micky D, as someone who started playing this game when the Morrowind chapter/expansion was announced, allow me to pass along some anti-frustration tips to help answer some questions you had:
    1. You picked a Dunmer, and the Dragonknight class. Now, this is actually a good combo to pick, so you didn't choose unwisely. Dunmer are well-balanced for the races, so you can use any focus you want with them. Dragonknight is a solid class, and is mostly known for either being a magical damage class OR a tanking class.
    2. Gear does NOT level with you. If you out level your gear, you will die faster, hit weaker, and just otherwise get worse. HOWEVER, as you fight creatures and generic NPCs out in the wild or during quests, you will get gear (albeit randomly generated) for your level, so even if you can't craft or get help, you can still find stuff to put on. But with that said, don't stress too much if you out level your gear, because you level up FAST in the early levels, so you may rocket through it faster than you think. Just try and generally keep your gear somewhat up to date as you level, and you shouldn't have too many problems.
    3. In every region in the game, in the major city in that region (Vivec City for example for Vvardenfell) you can find a 'Pack Merchant'. Talking to them with enough gold on you allows your character to gain 10 more inventory slots. It gets more expensive each time, but the first couple upgrades are very cheap, and you can help reduce your inventory frustrations.
    4. At level 10, you unlock your first mount, and like with the above, in each major city, you can find a 'Stables' which will allow you to spend 250 gold once a day (20 hours technically) to level up your mount's speed, stamina, or inventory (aka make your inventory bigger) by 1. It's a flat 250 gold, but you can only pick one thing a day. However these stats apply to all mounts on a character, so if you get another cooler mount you like more, you will NOT lose any progress.
    5. Continuing about gear, what you wear affects what you can do/abilities you can use. Each skill line has it's own abilities and passives, and can be used only while equipped with the right gear:
    Destruction staff: Magical damage or tanking
    Restoration staff: Magical healing
    One-handed and shield: Stamina tanking
    Dual-wielding: Stamina damage
    Two-handed: Stamina damage
    Bow: Long-range stamina damage
    Light armor: Magic-focused builds
    Medium armor: Stamina-focused builds
    Heavy armor: Health-focused builds
    6. You're on (I assume) PC-EU. Which the EU server is not quite as populated as the NA server is, but it still has a steady population. However, EVERYONE on the EU server plays together as such. But you won't see any players from PC-NA or from say the X-box servers or the PS4 servers. As such, maps are instanced, so you are in Vvardenfell, but there may be multiple maps OF Vvardenfell running that you aren't in at that particular moment.
    7. The Guilds basically are their own sectioned off part of the game. There's 6: Fighter's Guild, Mage's Guild, Thieves Guild (DLC), Dark Brotherhood (DLC), Undaunted, and Psijic Order (DLC, but you own Summerset, so you could theoretically do so). Each one has their own skill line. Don't worry about these right now though.
    8. If you decide ESO might be something you want to do more of, I might recommend getting ESO Plus. That would, among other bonuses, unlock ALL DLC you do not own (with the sole, singular exception of the new Blackwood expansion that just dropped) for as long as you have a subscription.

    • @TheNN
      @TheNN 2 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      @@MickyD Sure thing, as a few more tips to help out, especially if you decide to play on your own:
      1. Vampirism and lycanthropy are things in ESO if you should so want to become one at some point. However you won't just randomly get them by fighting stuff, you have to go out of your way to unlock them.
      2. Progress and characters are not transferred between servers. If you're on PC-EU and switch to the NA server, you'd have to start all over. That said, ESO Plus does transfer if you should get that.
      3. Every quest gives, at bare minimum, gold and EXP as a reward. Which also increase as you level up. So just...run around and do stuff and you'll gain plenty of levels in no time.
      4. Your skills level up as you gain EXP, and your skill lines only gain EXP when you equip abilities from them on your skill bar. Ergo if you want 'Destruction Staff' to level up, you need to unlock a skill from that skill line, and equip it to your bar. Mind skills do not have to be 'used', only equipped to your bar when you gain EXP. As an addition, skills also can be 'morphed' to add or change their effects, which you do want to do, as the skill will no longer gain EXP (which means that the skill line also stops gaining EXP).
      5. To do all of the above, you need skill points. You gain skill points in primarily three ways: 1. Level up your character. 2. Do quest lines (basically do any quest with a fancy quest arrow is part of a quest line) 3. Find skyshards (which are crystal looking things that send a beam of light into the air), for every three you find, you gain a skill point. There is more ways beyond that, like PvP, but those are the three easiest and most direct ways of doing it.
      6. To help explain some map markers:
      Pillar looking things: Wayshrines. These are found all over every map, and can be used to freely teleport between, including to other regions in the game. These are usually found near settlements or along various cross roads. It's extremely useful to unlock these, to make getting around easier.
      Skull-and-crossed-swords: World Bosses. Immensely powerful enemies that are meant to be fought with a group.
      Cave entrance: Public dungeons. These are basically open air dungeons. Every public dungeon has quests, multiple bosses, a skyshard, and a 'group event' within. Doing said group event gains you an instant skill point, but it is meant to be done with others.
      Lit torch: Delves. Small/medium sized dungeons, which contain more enemies, usually one or two quests, and a boss or bosses to fight (but while more difficult, can be soloed, even by a new character). They also contain a skyshard each. Beating a delve (by defeating the boss/bosses) nets you a chunk of bonus EXP one time for it.
      Entryways: Dungeons and Trials. For the former, these are things you queue for, and are the standard 4-person content of the game. You unlock these at level 10. Every dungeon has a 'story' quest you can do that gives you a skill point upon completion. However most players do tend to rush through dungeons, so let your teammates know if you need to do the story line. Trials: DO NOT ENTER. These are the 12 man raids of the game. The thing you saw with Divayth Fyr, that is a trial. Trust me, you're gonna have a bad time if you go there.
      7. If you can, try to log in once a day for your daily login bonus. For a new character especially it gets you some nice things. Good healing potions, food that buffs your stats for a couple hours, scrolls that increase your EXP gains for a couple hours from all sources, and so on. The timer for this bonus is the same for all players, so you can't cheese the system or anything.
      8. At level 10 as well, you unlock Cyrodiil, the main PVP content. However don't worry too much about this. While you get a generic quest to go there, it's a tutorial, getting to Cyrodiil (often times shortened to Cyro) is a bit weird. But even if you do go, you will be put into a safe 'camp', so don't worry you won't be teleporting to a battlefield against your will.
      I think that about covers all the basics. I know I dropped a lot here, but really, don't fuss too much about it. This is meant to be just some general tips to avoid frustration or annoyance. Just run around, find quests, do quests, empty inventory when needed, and repeat.

      @pauloskinner 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I’m new to ESO but I never see anyone mentioning this tip, and I only found out from someone online, but: you want to do at least the pvp tutorial quests, as it gives you enough points to spend on the pvp skill line and you can get something like +30% PERMANENT SPEED BUFF to all your mounts with those points (I believe it’s the 1st pvp passive ability you can get). The tutorial itself has no pvp at all. Just some fetch quest and learning about balistas and stuff.

Sometimes it's worth it to do it from the map but I wasted a fair amount of money before I remembered oh yeah that was free to do it from the shrines. Also one option to consider is buying a premium sub because you get the dlc while you are a subbed member instead of spending just to buy them. So you could get a month and check out more areas. Nothing to rush though. You can get a lot of enjoyment out of what you already have. Just saying this is an option available to you. As your character outlevels their equipment you will actually see the numbers decrease (by the time you're level 8 that same level 4 staff's damage will probably be around 900 attack instead). This is so awesome! As a fellow adoring fan LOL of the Elder Scrolls series I can say this game is amazing! It has easily become my new favorite, it does however require the monthly ESO Plus subscription to really fully enjoy but it's like half the price that while used to be and you get plenty of awesome stuff for it including in-game currency. It is however very much an MMO version of The Elder Scrolls but it preserves a lot of the lore as well as having a very cool combat system. If you decide to try to get into it you will find very quickly that it has less to do with what kind of character you make and more to do with how much you practice game mechanics and recognizing telegraph's. It is also ideally designed to be a multiplayer social game. I'm sure many other people will volunteer to help you but let me know if you want any help with it, I've been playing for a couple years. As a final note you may find it easier to do story mode version stuff if you get a good friend who's been playing this for a while to run around with you silently while you're doing all the quests on camera. Otherwise you will be very focused on completing the fight and you may have a hard time doing commentary. There are also builds you can use that will keep you alive in story mode content and let you still do a ton of damage. My personal biggest tiptoe is go back to the tutorial and practice all of the game mechanics it taught you, roll Dodge, interrupt, block, setting your opponent off balance, and heavy attacking to stun them deal a ton of damage and regenerate resources

    As a matter of fact, you CAN have the Ordinator armor! But its at the pvp vendors in Battleground Camps in Vivec City. You'll have to do a bit of PVP for it! Or wait for the next Morrowind Event to get the ordinator armor they drop.. Or use the Dark Elf motif style at the outfit station for a lower rez armor that is akin to ordinator.

    Hey Micky, glad you're giving ESO a try. It's a really fun game but incredibly daunting for new players and can be unintuitive at times. You mentioned you're going to give it a go in your own time and I wanted to recommend trying some dungeons as that makes up lots of fun content. Queue times can be a nightmare but if you wanted I could join you as a tank, healer or damage dealer and explain the mechanics, it can make a world of difference enjoying the game when you have an idea of what's going on around you.
    Keep making the videos mate they're a good laugh after work!

  • @joelsweeney4024

    Awesome your finally giving this a go, as i commented in another video, they did a great job designing morrowind (besides the telvani isles, which are more of a swamp now), hell, they even managed to design skyrim better than the original (of the regions present)
    But the combat damage scaling is by far what annoys me most about the game, you actually get scaled DOWN when you level up, kinda brings a new perspective to the oblivion difficulty curve.
    And the way they redesigned Mournhold is disappointing af as im sure you will find out, and Cyrodil feels very uninspired as well, but im excited to try the Dark brotherhood dlc which adds a worldspace with a standing Kavatch and a reimagined Anvil.
    oh you can even go to Stros M'kai, island from Elderscrolls Redguard, which i personally found really cool

  • @GHOST5800000
    @GHOST5800000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You probably wont see this Micky but since you are a dark elf you are in the ebonheart pact which includes the dark elves, argonians and nords, so without any dlc you can actually go to eastern skyrim just not western skyrim, thats dlc, but you can go to the rift and see riften and the area around windhelm i forgot what its called, you just have to get there by traveling, which is fun in this game because you will literally cross borders in game and end up in a new province

  • @PaperFlare
    @PaperFlare 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm a pretty big elder scrolls online fan, so I would love to give you some tips:
    -regarding damage: weapon/spell damage caps out at around 6k. Your current damage seems high because of One Tamriel which removed enemy "levels" and scales up the damage of low level players so they can join higher level players for dungeon content. End-game is more defined by your skill and knowledge as a result, which is nice.
    -fighters' guild quests: since you're a Dunmer, I'm also assuming you're ebonheart pact. As such, you need to go to Mournhold to do fighters and mages quests. Each guild has a quest storyline that requires you to travel the entirety of the base game, but they also have daily quests that help you level the skill line. You can also level fighters by killing daedra/undead and mages guild by finding lore books (the glowing blue books you might have noticed).
    The game definitely suffers from a lot of the usual MMO pitfalls and gaffes, but it can be a lot of fun and the writing is generally enjoyable. I recommend going to Sadrith Mora and doing the questline there.
