  • 1960s Triuumph pre unit 650 twin ready for its first run in 50 years. Engine has been rebuilt, new magneto fitted, carbs cleaned and balanced, set up to run on methanol.

    I’d leave the paint… it’s only original once so they say… I’d definately remake the Perspex for the nose cone though in it’s original style.

      I have the perspex ready for that. Been watching videos to see the best way to form it. Going to make sure it runs ok first.

      @@bostonbikebits6539 I’d have thought thin Perspex like that would have enough bend in it to not require forming. Watching with much interest. Your bike came up for sale not long after I’d bought mine… 😫

    That second sparking plug on each cylinder needs a high tensile wire mate!

      it's a dual plug head, the outer, original plugs are used to start the engine and get it warm. The leads are then moved to the racing ones in the centers of the heads. Because the flame front then starts from the middle of the head and spreads outwards it has the same effect as advancing the ignition approx 8 degrees. The bike runs on methanol so runs a lot more advance than if it were on petrol, the timing is fixed at 44 degrees btdc.
