At Boston Bike Bits we restore bikes, build bikes, play with cars and avoid work at all costs. We believe that proper jobs are for lunatics and that the path to true happiness comes from being idle. Why buy designer perfumes when 2 stroke smoke and wd40 are so much cheaper? Our altar is filled with petrol - proper leaded stuff, none of this ethanol nonsense.
Ford Prefect V8 hot rod - repairing the flip front
Latest video of my so far 2 year long budget hot rod build. This time I am starting on the body work and rebuilding the fibre glass flip front, this is all new to me so expect some problems and issues along the way.

10 inch 4 stroke? brain fade there - 10cc 4 stroke.
Bit of an update on this one - it was something very simple stopping it running but the underlying cause is a bit more complicated. The spark plugs were all tracking due to very heavy carbon deposits, a new set had it running again. The cause was that the car was running very very rich. I now believe the culprit and root cause is a failed coolant temperature sensor telling the ECU it's freezing cold so the ecu is giving the injectors maximum duration, hence super rich mixture. I now have a diag box and a new sensor but won't know for sure until I get some time to go and have a look. I now have all the circuit diagrams and sensor specs so am confident it will be back to full health soon.
Sexy
What would be the value of the replica? Thank you very much

If you listen really carefully on this video, just as the Talbot Sunbeam goes through the second gate you hear a sort of clicking noise. That's where the door mirror just clipped the gate post. It was so slight ij left the mirror intact but just marked the paint. Definitely one of Josh's smaller incidents.
That's what bikes should sound like brilliant mate
They have now filled the worst potholes on this stretch but have left the crumbling road outside of our house, apart from one small section that got the shovel of tarmac and size 10 work boot treatment. Why they still insist that nothing needs doing when the holes there are far worse than some they filled is beyond me, I can't help feeling it is pure spite because I had a go at the woman measuring it.
Bit of an update - a couple of days back they sent out one of the new lorries that sprays a substance in to the potholes. I don't think it's traditional tarmac as it seems to dry harder and leaves a more durable finish. Anyway they had already been along and put loose chippings down over all the defects, which still remain, they stopped just short of the worst of the potholes. They then came along with the lorry a week or three later and filled the most dangerous holes, including the one that was over 100mm deep and had a sharp edge to it where a previous bodge repair had been done - ne of the ones Mrs Jobsworth had said was ok. A couple of days later they filled the one hole that had been marked outside our house, they did this with the more traditional Lincolnshire method of the shovel and size 10 boot. That bit is still appallingly bad, they wasted thousands on loose chippings instead of actually repairing the bits that needed doing. Why they didn't use the flashy new machine to do all the holes at the same time is anybody's guess. This is the problem when you have a number of highly paid officers sitting in offices deciding what will and won't get done rather than sensible people making sensible decisions. Save the money paid to those people and spend it on repairs - give each team an area and make them responsible for it. It doesn't take a genius.
@@bostonbikebits6539 they've probably got friends elsewhere in your area with a bad road outside their house so doing them a favour instead of doing other areas that they should be???? Yeah putting down chippings just makes it look good for a while, doesn't really fix anything does it!
That is wild
Thanks, great video. I have just rebuilt my sprag clutch (998), and when I started it up, there was a mechanical bearing noise and the bike didn't want to tick over. After a few minutes, it went away. I didn't check the location of the shim behind the needle bearing. When I was torquing up the nut, it was tight, then seemed to give a little, before taking full torque. Do you think I may have misaligned the shim and this has caused the noise on initial startup? Thanks in advance!
Just bought one of these, 87 Black & graphite colours, but always loved these colours. Wasn't looking for a GPX, was looking for an FZ or first gen VFR750 to add to my modest collection of 80s bikes, but a GPX popped up and it is so clean and original i couldn't resist. Still has the original exhaust (no salt on the roads here) tool kit owners manual, and even the original rubber brake lines, which surprisingly are still fine. The seller is the original owner and he said the cams an rockers were replaced under warranty as very early 87 models could have premature wear. Very underrated bike, don't see too many around.
Please check out the other video I did on this, the worst pot hole is 100mm deep with a sharp edge to it, they didn't think that one needed doing either. It is nothing short of scandalous.
@@bostonbikebits6539 it's not like you're asking them to do the whole road is it!
I've driven through there when it was flooded, it's really bad!
It's still nearly as bad, I don't think the "repair" they have done will last a year.
@@bostonbikebits6539 it wouldn't be much to worry about anywhere else down that road but it's right outside your house! I wouldn't want it outside of mine, there's nowhere for the water to go except for the big puddle you have there☹️
@@grahamdavis8404 yup, the fence is all rotting out - the very same fence that the council insist that we have, the larger vehicles cause the whole house to shake but nobody is listening.

Why are these meets always a million miles away from me 😭 Looks like a brilliant meet 😎👌🏼
Is it just me or haven't there been any good old English bikes? If I let my Venom and my Bonneville watch this vid they are going to have a fit. Too bad that there are always some noisy nincompoops amongst them riders!
Funny you should say that, I went to a do at Boston Bowl the week before and there were only 2 classics that turned up - me on my Maserati and my mate on his Triumph 350. I don't know where all the classic / brit riders are at the moment, in hiding for some reason. I was going to take my Triumph drag bike but I ended up taking nothing due to running out of time.
It was an impressive event. I'm sure local businesses prefer it in the streets. The queues for food were keeping them busy.

I have the same code, as well as P2425, i have checked both the auxilliary coolant pumps that supply the EGR cooler and both seem to be working, I did change the EGR cooler a while back but worked ok for a few months, now i just cant clear the check injection and then after 20 miles check emissions, any thoughts, could the egr cooler be airlocked?. nearing the end of my tether,
I bet you its an air lock same as I had. Open up that air bleed valve, a load of air should come out and your problem will be solved. The valve is very hard to see and to get at but it is there.
Just as an update on this it turned out to be a bit more flexible than I had hoped for. I ended up strengthening the whole area significantly with rather large 4mm thick steel plates that covered teh whole area. It made it all look much neater and removed any trace of flexing.
Just to be clear I had already identified that there was oil pressure by measuring the resistance at the sender - 250 ohms without the engine running, 70 ohms with. Never, ever run an engine if you think there is no oil pressure, you can destroy an engine very quickly. The fault in my case was a bent pin on a connector, I had straightened it before this test, I am now showing very good pressure, it's a brand new high pressure pump from a Buick Grand National.
B. Occelli is Bernard Occelli, a French co driver that worked with Didier Auriol for many years. On further inspection everything was a lot simpler than we thought, the bias control in the car was connected via a cable to the mechanical adjuster on the brake box. New pads are needed for the rear, all 4 show signs of being seriously over heated. The front discs are both scored, one much worse than the other but not so bad as to need immediate replacement. The car does not compete any more so we are not looking to win races with it. The oil leak was actually a couple of small leaks, a bit of tightening here and there was all that was needed. I am glad I spotted a loose nut on the rear suspension as every single nut in that area was barely hand tight.
Sorry my finger was in the way for half of this video, didn't realise until I uploaded it.

The Broadspeed minis were fairly well known even at Lemans if I'm not mistaken. This would as quick as my 2004 JCW Mini---maybe more even.
I have a JCW myself - a 2008 tuned to about 220 bhp. I would say the Anglia is about the same in terms of performance, maybe the mini has the edge. The Anglia is incredibly light, both cars are rather noisy but the Anglia definitely out shouts the Mini.
Hi very interesting video just for info the gearbox is a 2000E not a type 9 which is a much later 5 speed gearbox made for the Sierra. If yours is a 5 speed it is incredibly rare as you said made by Hewland and marketed through Wooler it was a very close ratio box dog engagement and direct top whereas the type 9 five speed was overdrive 5th hope this helps.
Hi, I always thought the sierra used an MT75. This box is definitely a 4 speed close ratio, having checked with google it appears you are right - it is a 2000e but with different internals. Cheers,
I’ve still got mine 😊.. happy days .. it’s capable

As always, living the dream.
That second sparking plug on each cylinder needs a high tensile wire mate!
it's a dual plug head, the outer, original plugs are used to start the engine and get it warm. The leads are then moved to the racing ones in the centers of the heads. Because the flame front then starts from the middle of the head and spreads outwards it has the same effect as advancing the ignition approx 8 degrees. The bike runs on methanol so runs a lot more advance than if it were on petrol, the timing is fixed at 44 degrees btdc.
Superb sound but watch out for the turbo when turning off the engine after high speed 😉
Awesome! I’d call that a win for now! 🏆
I’d leave the paint… it’s only original once so they say… I’d definately remake the Perspex for the nose cone though in it’s original style.
I have the perspex ready for that. Been watching videos to see the best way to form it. Going to make sure it runs ok first.
@@bostonbikebits6539 I’d have thought thin Perspex like that would have enough bend in it to not require forming. Watching with much interest. Your bike came up for sale not long after I’d bought mine… 😫
