Thank you for this. I am considering doing a brushless upgrade to my Axial SMT10. I have the newer 2020 model that has all metal transmission except for the spur gear. I wonder if going brushless the stock spur would be OK on 2s as I need a failsafe in the transmission so I don't blow the whole thing. A lot cheaper to replace an $11 spur gear than a $70 transmission. Thoughts?

Stock spur should be fine. Although if you do go metal, as long as it has a slipper pad, it should just slip and give.

How did you mount the ESC? Screws or just tape. I can see that?

Just 3M double-sided tape.

If you wanted to run 3S, I would gear down and make sure you are using metal transmission gears.
