I've literally got a 5.3 L33 and a 99 carrera sitting in my garage, to say this popped up at the most PERFECT time would be an understatement. I can't wait for the next episode!!
Some of the V8 mounting kits change the Porsche driveline angles. Pay close attention to the axles in relation to the pre-swap measurements. There are some interesting swaps being done with Honda's bulletproof K24 which can generate a reliable 450 -500 HP and 30 mpg. A few people are working on engine mounting kits, including a transverse kit for the Porsche Carrera which allows yo to use the Honda transmission which has a ton of upgrades available to make it as bulletproof as the engine. Good luck with the build.
#1- Don’t use the tiptronic transmission. The shift quality is garbage and the shifts are very slow. #2- Make your own mount. It’s easy. Run from the stock mounts to the heads. Use the factory bushings. #3- Pull the factory water pump (from the LS) and run an electric meziere pump. #4- Use corvette accessories, they’re the lowest profile. #5- It’s easiest to flip the intake around and run the intake as a wide tight bend by the firewall. #6- It will help to add a third center radiator and a rear mounted oil cooler in the decklid. #7- That 5.3 better be aluminum. You can pick up gen 4 aluminum engines for the same price as the iron blocks. 80-100 additional lbs is a lot when it’s hanging behind the rear axle. Awesome project!
Great project. I love the concept of tossing the flat six for a junkyard LS and ending up with more performance for a fraction of the cost. You can drive it hard without worrying if you're going to need another mortgage if it breaks. Looking forward to the next installment.
