thanks great video, followed it to the letter, unfortunately I am still getting a tiny leak at the back of the engine after replacing the gasket, so annoying, just a drop every 30 seconds or so after the enging has warmed up, it drops off the back bolt to the left as you look at it, tightened down to 9nm
you are one very talented man I give you that! I was going to attempt to do this job on my 2013 535D as I keep losing oil and then I could smell oil in the car after a journey so I whipped my hand down the back of the engine and low and behold my hand is covered in oil. no way would I attempt to do this its way above my skill level and the last one I did was in 1999 and much easier! have you ever seen an issue with the rocker cover its self being the issue ? imagine doing all that and then it leaks again even with a new gasket.
Hello thanks for the video! I got a question about the metal shards, are they not falling in the cilinder when cleaning with the wire brush, or sanding? And is a vacuum cleaner enough to get it out?
1. you are not producing "metal shards" ... as your aim is to eliminate carbon deposits and just gently resurface the injector seating 2. using compressed air or a vacuum is the best you can do... feel free to use any method you consider useful. Just make sure you don't drop something (big) in the piston ;). many times we overthink it.
Thanks mate I followed this on 2012 730d worked a charm. Had to walk to the gas station as I only had 10L of fuel its minimum 20L to run fuel bleed that sucked. By the time I got to that point in the video it was too late haha. I used ISTA to bleed. Got that injector puller off AliExpress $20 as well as copper washers and o rings
So I’ve got smoke coming from a plastic cap directly behind the oil filler cap. Could this be the same issue ? Not even sure what the cap is. It’s slightly smalller than the oil cap and is fitted with clips. BMW f10 (2012)
short answer ... because I was dump ... Long answer, I thought it is only the gasket that ages. I have never worked on that part and I did not know the cover can have problems, as it is made by 2 parts joined together. Also ... gasket is 20GBP ... complete cover is 200+GBP.... this is what comes next th-cam.com/video/EUSe3Od1AMs/w-d-xo.html
@@nothingandmore where did you source the cover from? I will need to get one for my car also, as I have changed only the gasket and found out later that the cover itselft is also faulty. I get a small amout of oil on it. Not major but I think of when I do the timing chain to get a new cover also.
@@nothingandmore I was disappointed of febi because on my last order, the water pump for the bmw f10 was not machined correctly and was not sealing well. Had to rework it myself, but should I not have caught it, it would have been a big coolant spill in my garage + on the V belt and that stuff will compromise your belt, you can't dry it up.
In case anyone wonders, the BMW dealership in Dallas Texas just quoted $3,750 to do this job. My sister in law asked me if I could do it. I've replaced tons of valve covers, so I told her I would take a look. I'm convinced that BMW has a team of engineers that are tasked with taking every job and redesigning whatever is needed to make the job as difficult and overly complicated as possible. Are you kidding me??! THIS to replace the valve cover??! GTFO. I've kept my wife's 2011 MINI S running all these years and I despise working on that car. We are dumping her MINI and getting something that isn't designed by sadistic jerks.
Like I tell all my coworkers who say "ohhh Mr money blah blah". No.... if i couldn't work on them myself I wouldn't be able to afford them.. the price vs performance along witg reliability is insane for these cars. Gotta keep up with them though.
@@DiddysBBOil well said :) need to do some preventative maintenance. also my theory is that you pay less on parts if you buy them when you don't need them ...

that’s a lot of work. Well done. My take away and learning from this was a useful one, which was not to try this myself!
:)) don't give up that easy. you can do it.

tighten it a bit more ... by hand maybe holding the ratchet closer to the ratcheting mechanism so that you don't generate to much force.

When do you use the injector seat cutting tools? What is their purpose exactly? Do you have to worry about metal shards falling into the cylinder?
what would you think is their purpose?
Not necessary to cut the seat, I've done hundreds of these and just used a wire brush to clean injector bores and never had an issue.
@@mikemata623what about the metal shards that fall in the cilinder? How do i get those out? Just with a vacuum cleaner?
Good video, I have to do it on my x3 e83. Does anyone know the tightening diagram? Thx.

what engine ?
Same engine as this f10 535d

Can you use the D7S to bleed the fuel system or do you need to buy the x-431 to do this?
tested today, and the answer is no. xtool is not able to bleed bmws
What’s the thread size on the top of the injector?
don't remember that value. I know that the injector puller kit had it inside .. planning on making your own extractor?
@ nah I’m replacing the rocker cover now and got stuck with two injectors. Ordered the kit waiting till tomorrow for it to arrive.

@ aftermarket one from ebay. Febi gaskets. Mine after 2 months started leaking so bad it’s like a waterfall.

Hello is the 320d (N47) less pain than this one?
don't think so ... you do the same steps only 4 injectors vs 6
My F11 525D has just failed its MOT on an oil leak and I think its this. Back left corner.
:) clean it with brake cleaner and go for a recheck :))
how many hours did it take?
maybe 5, but I also filmed the work

cutting the cover so that I don't need to undo the HP fuel lines or bend them and have problems later when reconnecting.
