  • A fantastic little lesson to loosen up a tight T-Spine, to bring movement into the upper chest, to get to know the shoulder blades, to find good feelings in the neck, to release tension, to learn more about shoulder movements and how the scapula (the shoulder blade) can slide over the chest. No stretching ! Not a workout.

    Maestro! This one lesson is doing more for me in one try than all the thousands of exercises and massages, etc. I have experienced in the last 50 years of searching for help for my upper and mid back issues. I am astounded and grateful. Words fail to express my appreciation . Your guest is lovely. Thank you Alfons.

    The guest Jeanette mentions how the lessons relax her and not in the usual way of just mental relaxation, but also somatic/body relaxation. This is important. I've been practicing massage for many years. Just getting a few of these lessons from a workshop given in my area and these YT ones with you, which show the difference in my own body, I can see that there are things massage simply cannot do because the person themselves have to be the one to do it from inside their own nervous system to allow a complete integration of everything that happens to create the movement. Perhaps I should be doing Feldenkrais with them instead....at the very least, Feldenkrais shows the tension that builds in my own body from releasing tension in client's bodies is becoming an unsustainable imbalance which I need to address and ultimately shift. My hands are swollen, my wrists are swollen, I get migraines, my vision is affected - all this from upper body tension, which I can understand by doing these exercises far better than from doing yoga or Yamuna Bodyrolling. What a gift - thank you.

      Jean, great observations, thank you for your feedback! I like to add that, from my point of view, massage and Feldenkrais are completely different disciplines. Each one can do what the other can not, they are not interchangeable. In February I will travel to Vienna (660 km away, on the other side of Austria) just to get a massage from my favorite massage therapist (I try to do that twice a year). I might add though, that I do Feldenkrais regularly, and I like to receive hands-on lessons (Functional Integration) at least once or twice a month. Please continue watching/learning/participating in my videos :-)

    This was very much like what the guest said in her feedback. Very freeing for the upper body. I sometimes have tension in the shoulders and neck, and these movements seemed to bring a lot of blood flow to the area, and a release of that tension. When lying on the back, after the first set of movements, my shoulders seemed to meld with the floor much more than usual....like there was no space between any part of the shoulder blade and the floor. The movements also really helped with a headache. Thank you so much.

    I will just join pretty much all the previous statments - this helps! I have developed mild right thoracic scoliosis while breastfeeding and holding my baby probably in not the most effective way. In a very short time with Alfons's lessons I started to feel my body better again, release tension prety much all over my body and being able to localise the most problematic spots and work to fix them. Thank you Alfons! It's amazing that you share this knowledge here and basically for free. I am sharing your channel with my friends and wish for many more people to discover you ❤️

      I would say transferring what we learn in these lessons into real life ...makes sense ... we call this process “integration” ... in one-on-one sessions it’s part of the session, in group classes (like in most of my videos) it’s part of the (self) learning of the student to find how to transfer and integrate into her daily life

    if I'm a "TENSE" personality, so I tense my upper traps for emotions, bad posture, is this execise good for me, if it's reenforcing those "tense" movements in the body?? I"ve tried it and in the moment, it gives me release, but then the next day I feel like my upper traps got a "work out" and I don't know if I want to overwork my upper traps if they are the ones who get me into trouble?? I'd like to learn how to deactivate them. does this make sense? Not an insult, just wondering if these kinds of movements are recommended for tense people?

    • @ImprovingAbility
      @ImprovingAbility  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joseph Quintero, hi Joseph. You could try, but actually there are more suitable FELDENKRAIS® lessons for that purpose. IMHO sorry to say but it's not a very good question to begin with. I know from a PT or strength training perspective they do talk like this, but it's neither empathic nor empowering. Maybe, instead, start by exploring the possibilities available to you. I have 2 "neck and shoulder" lessons here on TH-cam for free. And after that, maybe (if that's still interesting by then) start to explore what was lost. And ... was it?
