    I love Feldenkrais so thank you for your expertise. I would like to add, I hope some day people like yourself who emphasize "their" style of movement can do so without being so dismissive of yoga. Yoga changed/saved my life. When people who do qigong, functional movement, etc., start bad mouthing yoga for one reason or another, it makes me want to stop listening. There is no need for it. Be the change you want to see in the world. Sincerely... I know many intelligent people who have a lot to teach about the evolution of the human body. When choosing a teacher who I feel is qualified, I cannot honestly say that I want to learn from someone who approaches their perspective with an attitude of dismissal toward all the intelligence that has come before today. If we are going to teach to those who don't know, we must meet people where they are with an attitude of love and acceptance, not reprimand them for the previous choices they've made. Be well. May you lean into the future with confidence that what you have to say is enough, without bolstering it with critiques about other styles of movement.

    As always, wonderful! This morning I had a headache when I got up. After just five minutes of this video, the headache was gone. As if that was not marvelous enough, you made clear to me how the head is connected to the neck is connected to the hips is connected to the feet. In our modern world when you go to the doctor for a headache they study only your head. They might give a pill to numb the pain. So ineffective! So damaging! You represent to me that New Direction and healthcare. The body is all connected. Take the time to become aware. Thank you!

    I am in love with circles and figure 8's ... the movement synchronicity to create pure shapes is pure bliss to feel, and observe in my patients. To bring them from boxes, rectangles, ovals.... to pure circles and smooth 8's reassures me that their movement improvements will be sustained far longer than my manual therapy! Your teaching is so authentic and so natural - keep sharing your gift. Presume you are a Dutchie? Great work.

    thank you for suggesting this video.. this one, i definitely can do at the office and what is more important before my dance class. I do know about the stiff neck restricting the movement. My turns always suffer when i take a class after work, because i have been staring at the screen all day long, thus stiff neck and shoulders, shortened lower back etc. when i take class on the weekend, where i am relaxed before class, my turns are free and effortless. So, this one is really hits the spot. Thank you so much..

    I had a question. When I do these exercises, my back pops, cracks, and releases all over. I have a history of childhood trauma and I feel like these subtle movements have a really profound impact on my nervous system. Have you heard of this kind of a reaction?

      Hi Alfons - Thanks for your reply. I have just started a business called 'Spring into Action' based on the view that human movement is based on spring and elasticity rather than muscle power. Doing one class a week just, started. I would be very interested to hear your views on running. My own running is going great based on what I am doing. Thanks a lot for your videos, they will be a big help to me.

      Peter Varley Spring + Elasticity ... nice ! :-) I think your business will be an important contribution to the world. How / Where will you publish? I myself I did not investigate into running yet. I studied groundwork for many years now, and just recently started to explore deeper into getting up from the floor (new videos coming up soon). To be honest, whenever I see dogs walking and running I get a little bit jealous.. Dogs seem to float and really make good use of their spring mechanism. Many years ago I bought a book called "Running with the Whole Body: A 30-Day Program to Running Faster with Less Effort" by Jack Heggie. I studied bits of it already (the ones with Feldenkrais on the floor), but will look into it more too.

I’ve been going to day-long Feldenkrais workshops in Berkeley, CA, for a number of years, despite the 75-minute drive. But having those videos available is a godsend. I wish I had found them sooner.     I work as a ballet class pianist. Sometimes I sit for 6 hours a day. I always insist on using a real piano bench, whish is flat, no back. Sometimes I lean back to the wall between playing, but I sit flat, not in the curved chairs the other pianists bring in. I KNEW there was a reason my body liked the flat bench!

    thank you very much for this lesson! my overall spinal alignment is crooked and my neck is straight instead of curved and ive been getting debilitating headaches along with upper back, shoulder and neck pain for about a year now! i have been looking for a video like this so i can work on improving my neck each day at home or throughout the day so this is just what i needed!

      thank you so ,wish i could come and visit you! I did alot of head and shoulder videos tonight . I will never do yoga again ,too much directions on how to do it perfect ,yoga sucks .I am so glad i found you ! when i do a lesson or a few lessons back to back i feel sooooo much better . Please keep doing this for us. I am a seventy year old woman and i have weak knees . My left knee was so painfull thats why i started feldenkraist with you. the pain is gone but my knee feels like jello so i use a kane and sometimes i put a brace on it . NOW my other knee is kinda weak too I have been doing your knee pain movements and my knees are getting a little better slowly .i really did not realize my neck and shoulders were so stiff until i started doing the different neck and shoulder videos oh i feels so nice to feel my vertibrae and ribs . to be aware of my body .

    I have had a sore neck on the right side for years. 10 years. maybe more. tight right hip and tight right shoulder. please advise which videos to follow for relief. Im doing a weekly class at a community centre as well. I am so happy to find your channel. Even my physio told me not to do yoga. Too competitive.

      Start with "Relief for Shoulder and Neck" (1) and (2), where I am on the red checkered blanket. Repeat for a couple of times, until you know both lessons by heart and you can practice on your own. Do them often. If you have a busy lifestyle: 2 minutes is better than nothing. While practicing, challenge yourself by doing less and going slower. Submit yourself to the floor. Be the floor !

    About the comment you made related to chairs, what type of chair do you recommend for office work? I usually work around 10 hours per day with my computer. Thanks again for the lessons and for making me laugh with every video.

      I have no Zoom classes planned yet. I tried it on and off for years but wasn’t too happy with the limitations. Sometimes I have really beautiful one-on-one sessions with great results, but they require so much more focused attention on my side that I don’t offer them readily ;)

      Hi, thanks for your message here on TH-cam. If you practice at home on your own without guidance I would recommend you to work with another video: th-cam.com/video/MXPcCHdXtAU/w-d-xo.html It's called "Relief for Shoulder and Neck". Actually there are 2 videos. Do them slowly and very carefully (just as I describe it in my book). Don't put effort, make the movements very, very small. Do them as you would be learning and exploring, instead of looking at it as an exercise. Wish you all the best ! :-)

    +Feldenkrais + Fitness I stumbled across your videos and Feldenkrais for the first time today. I'm dealing with acute health issues that makes my head so very heavy and my neck sore and these movements are quite soothing.
    I watched your video about not stretching hamstrings to lengthen them. Very interesting. I stretched every day for over 20 years but than stopped a few years ago. Recently I tried to stretch again and my muscles became very painful. Thanks to your video about how to relieve back pain without stretching I now know why, thankfully. Phew! :) I was worried there was something wrong since I used to be able to stretch without problem. Anyway, I just borrowed the first edition of your book and hope to learn more about Feldenkrais by using your book and your videos. Do you offer Skype lessons or consultation to help with learning?     At one point on this video you mentioned that the movement has to be about 30 minutes long; however, I am not sure if you mean, 30 minutes for each direction or overall. Can you please let me know?

    hi alfons, i hope you are able to provide me with some guidance...even before i had the pain (explained in my previous comment) i didnt like to sit still for long and would prefer to be moving around whenever possible. but of course there are situations that do require me to sit down but i can't get comfortable in any type of chair or sofa no matter how i adjust my position! i really need a comfortable seating platform in my bedroom for studying at my desk/working on my computer but don't what to look for! the desk in my room but all of the "back support" chairs ive seen are mainly for office workers and don't address the type of back pain that i have.
    i do happen to have a wedge pillow similar to the one shown in this video. could a comfortable backless stool of the proper height with this pillow work as an alternative to a desk chair?

    Hi Alfons! You're so polite and nice. Not sure if you keep on replying anymore, but your lower back video was great. However, then I noticed my neck pain and I believe it's cause of my scoliosis. Do you have any videos for people with heavy scoliosis or recommendations (which not involve removing one's spine, though it sounds like a great idea)?

      Hi Alfons! I should ask you, I got a very bad skating injure yesterday (was trying for something cardio and fun), and got an injure between the C1 and C7 area (in spanish, this is called cervicales entirely). Should I keep feldenkrais and yoga or go to kinesiology therapy? My legs, elbows and my forehead are also all injured but not so badly, mostly very bad bruises.

      +Carla Hohn Articular cartilage forms a smooth covering over the surface of healthy joints. Some joints can create a rubbing sound as you move. A courser grinding or crunching may indicate changes in the surfaces of one or more joints. A related medical term might be "Creptius". This kind of sound can be heard from all kind of locations (e. g. I often feel it in client's knee joints, also in young clients). Just in the neck we can hear it! As long as there is no pain coming from deep inside it's perfectly normal. Do the head movements slowly, don't push against limits, apply awareness, and enjoy yourself :-)

      +Feldenkrais & Fitness Ⓥ THANKS! There is no pain so I should be good! I went to dentist recently as had "lock jaw" as I call it - could hardly stick a finger between my teeth and the only 2 teeth touching were left rear ones. He said TMJ (grinding) had worn away cartilage and the right disc had fallen off - which is why I have pain in my jaws. SO again thanks - I just didn't want to push it and hurt myself more in doing so! GREAT VIDEO by the way! Thanks and keep up the good work!

      thanks ***** :-) you might want to try doing the neck movements with jaw slightly open. just let the jaw hang down... I mean, there's gravity, isn't it? :-) just feel that your jaw itself has some weight, and when you move your head (very slowly and minuscule amounts) you might feel your jaw hanging, and your mouth open and close by itself to various degrees
