This video is particularly good for me..having been on crutches for years, in a wheelchair, I fought hard to maintain my health and leg strength. This is awesome. Thanks for the fun, laughs and most important movement. I'm so afraid I won't be able to walk and am certain this will help me no end.
Alfons, Another brilliant video. Your personality is so infectious. I am a Strength and Conditioning Coach and functional movement practitioner working with elite athletes in England. Your videos not only make a lot of sense they are fun to watch - and I use them to educate the athletes I work with. My wife has also benefited from your expertise! Please keep posting! Respect! Sandy..
Sweet ! Good to know, thank you :-) I always try to pinpoint the safest and most effective exercises. Maybe one day I could come for "working holidays" to England and give a workshop or work / consult with you and some of your clients?
Thanks Alfons for showing the correct method, as I was doing it wrong, going up on toes but also going backwards on heels. Thanks for this lesson Alfons. Will now do the right way.
well done amen. I teach yoga therapy and known as the german analytic yogi in the hood yep this is how I do it too outside of the feet parallel to suport and built the arch if the ankle is not very stable. also heels usually come towards another on decent. I sometime do this with help of a power plate
I've have tried the exercise in the last part of the video, where you go up on your toes and down in your knees. It's a wonderful exercise, that gives a nice, soft and wavelike movement in the body, so I shall integrate it in my programme, in order to reduce my knee arthritis problems. Thank you, Alfons!
I was looking at your other video and this one I can do...Maybe I can graduate to single leg but right now my right knee hurts too much. I look forward to doing this and will let you know how I do. You are so sweet. Thank you for this video.
Really terrific, Alfons. Your details are wonderful; your explanations and visuals (love the split screen!) really help people to grasp the internal feeling of a neutral pelvis. A great lesson for orienting the whole body to a lower center of gravity while improving movement and sensation in feet, knees, hips and relaxing spine.
This was an interesting exercise. I could go up onto the toes of my right foot, and also when two feet were together, but I couldn't go up onto toes of my left. I think I tried too hard, because now the top of my left knee is very swollen. Next time I'll know not to push myself so hard, I just thought my muscles were being lazy. I like how your exercises lead to better self awareness. Thank you .
You have fun so I have fun and even the movements seem fun. I fractured my kneecap 5 months ago and still am not bending as much as I want or walking a straighter line. I do believe my knee has become more comfortable with this lesson which inspires me to persevere/keep trying and be P-a-t-I-e-n-t HaHa.
+Natala G, good to hear, thanks for the feedback 🍀❤️ Focus more on the up than on the down in this exercise. Also work with the movement combinations in my "towards japanese sitting" videos. Smaller and slower will create far greater gains than bigger and more forcefully
Making Small and Slow movements toward Japanese sitting--great! And am only to foot flex/extend which will help to not trip again! Also seeing other wonderful lessons by you. Thank you from the bottoms of my feet to the top of my head and beyond!
I have no problems on tiptoe, but I have a weak right knee on the down/squat part when I do it alone. Difficulty going down stairs on that knee too. Should I just keep doing two legs together or gently practice all of it? I do think this practice is helping me. Thank you so much.
Great video and a really different approach to knee health. I'd like to ask you if this exercise is ok if you suffer from patellofemoral syndrome. Many thanks
Good knee health and knee function is totally underrated. Stay in your comfort zone. Practice with these exercises carefully, gently, persistently. I would also suggest to add in massage and good fascia massage around the knee and including the whole leg and whole body. Vague but not vague. Good luck!
Good question, keep asking! This work is not a fix, not movement re-education, not a posture normalisation camp. Instead, it helps you to notice things, consciously and subconsciously, provides you (as a whole) with choice. Use google to learn more about somatic education, FM Alexander, Moshe Feldenkrais, GI Gurdjieff, have fun!
Oh, it might be a sign that you were excited to follow along but did too much. Wait for a few days then start again: do shorter sessions with less repetitions, do short sessions twice a day instead of one long one only. Try to do the movements with less effort. Think of how people used to cook soup: when adding salt, a good cook added only a tiny little bit of salt at a time. Then added a bit more and then a little bit more until perfect. If the cook added too much salt at once, there’s nothing that could be done except start over again... also make sure to use your glutes (buttocks), don’t power this movement from your knees. I wish you all the best! 👍😊
hi alphons i need ur help! I had a tibial fracture 4 months ago and now I'm using stick for walking. My problem is after walking or standing for some time when I sit my knee gets locked and I've to slowly bend it and it makes a clicking sound like my patella is stuck doctor has indicated it to be a meniscus tear but I read it could be the popliteus muscle also I can't fold my leg beyond 100° and have leg atrophy pls help me with this
Dear Surjeet Marwah, I would need to work with you on the table with Functional Integration. Maybe you can find a Feldenkrais Practitioner near your home whom you can work with? If you want to try to solve it on your own the general approach is this: 1. Give your leg enough opportunity to heal 2. Built into a strong leg again. I suggest you do very careful, small movements for short time, but often, couple of times per day. Never use force, never push. I don't have a specific video for your question online, but you could start with th-cam.com/video/ed3dw_TPHzQ/w-d-xo.html and focus on the part where you move your knee back and forth. You can go to openatm.org or kinesophics.ca there you can find many Feldenkrais Audio lessons and pick something for your leg. I wish you all the best!
hello again it was really nice of you but I don't have any feldenkrais practitioner in my city. I'm having physiotherapy and actually it's really late since the sutures didn't healed for 3 months and I couldn't go to therapy. Now it's about 5 months since the fracture and the PT is working on getting back the range and strength but its very painful and hurts around the knee, more on the outer side of knee and my ankle feels jammed do u have some method to deal with regaining ROM and atrophy of leg
In his commencement address to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) graduates of 1997, Kurt Vonnegut said "Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone".
I'm just learning that this speech had been erroneously attributed to Kurt Vonnegut and in fact was written by Mary Schmich, a Pullitzer Prize winning journalist. The entire speech is wonderful. Here is the link to the full speech. Thank you again for your great videos. My son is also benefitting from the neck and shoulder exercises. scripting.com/specials/commencement.html @@ImprovingAbility
I can't phrase that in less than a page. Biomechanics of the human body, How the brain orchestrates movement, Big muscles move big joints, Desensitisation through better movement organisation. Maybe some answers in Tom Myers' book "Anatomy trains"?
Hi Alfons! Love your videos! Where can i read the theory of why these kind of exercises works? What are you working behind this "simple" exercise. What books do you recomend me to read? A hug from Argentina! :)
Hi Daniel... good question! MOST of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais work was never published, because the copyright owners fear for their monetisation. Maybe just google around? My favourite book at the moment is „The enchanted hour“ by Meghan Cox Gurdon.
As a result of this exercise I got Musculfieber in my back. Strange, unexpected, my first contact with Feldenkrais. Not in hips, not in calf, small of the back hurts. Strange !?
Could be a problem in your lower back that you had for a long time. Could be "extension intolerant back" or "extension based back pain". I recommend you google that, or better: head over to www.backfitpro.com and have a look what Dr. Stuart McGill has to offer. Back pain is not a miracle but it requires some studying the right resources (too many scammers out there looking for a quick $$). I'm currently working on a video about back pain, will try to include your question !
Daniela Schmitz yes, but what is your question? For basics the 2 videos called "Relief for Shoulder and Neck" and my "Relief neck tension" video, plus the video for basic strengthening th-cam.com/video/WlM3ZzfQhHE/w-d-xo.html
great info and demo neutral spine with many movements
wish i''d known this 60 years ago
thanks🙏

Great video. Helped my knees immensely
good job sir, BRAVO, BRAVO!!!!
Thanks Alfons for showing the correct method, as I was doing it wrong, going up on toes but also going backwards on heels. Thanks for this lesson Alfons. Will now do the right way.
Gracias!!!! Saludos desde Argentina.
Thanks a million. Your knee exercise is awesome. Very useful. God bless you.
Lovely video! Great exercises and great sense of humour!
Love the videos and the humor. Thank you so much for your efforts!

Smart & Playful...the perfect man!! TY, Alfons.
Thank you very much, Alfons!
Tried it for a few minutes after watching the video. My feet feel amazing!!! I'm going to try this at work. :-)

Make a video about shoulder stretch
you are awesome, and seem like a really nice person! cheers
Tough tough but feels sooo good
Great. Thank you
Uh oh I've been neglecting my knees again! Thank you for this prompt and great video (and split screen) 😊.
Thank you!!

Can you do a video on how to drive and not hurt the right knee? Thanks
Thank you so much ! I to do slowly and a little backward the pelvis is getting better. 😍
first i have ever heard of Feldenkrais.... interesting ... i am going to start trying this out.... video was very funny.. ty :)
Great video. How much time should be spet on each session?
I personally spend 1-2 minutes on this before I go running, and before, in between or after long walks. Keeps my knees pain free.
I have no problems on tiptoe, but I have a weak right knee on the down/squat part when I do it alone. Difficulty going down stairs on that knee too. Should I just keep doing two legs together or gently practice all of it? I do think this practice is helping me. Thank you so much.

what about knee pain from abduction and internal rotation of the leg?

IS THERE ANY EXERCISE FOR LIVER CIRRHOSIS PATIENTS PLEASE
very complex question, no short answer. best exercise would be an appropriate diet I guess. nutritionfacts.org/topics/liver-disease/
Is it normal to have pain start several hours after doing this exercise? My knees are throbbing

Hello Alfons,
Thank you.
It was not so serious, just sore muscles of the back.
good and funny!
+Daniela Schmitz, thank you !
