    YUV 4:2:0 cuts to a quarter the full color and brightness depth.
    The best option would be setting the console to RGB, then the console itself will set the YUV to 4:2:2 that is half of the color depth of full RGB 4:4:4
    Currently HDMI cannot support 4:4:4 YUV or Full RGB for color depth, due to bandwidth limitations of the HDMI 3. That’s something coming in the future with HDMI 4.0 etc

      And the whole point of chroma subsampling is that human vision is more sensitive to changes in luminance than chroma, so if Y is always 4, luminance data is not compressed, just the chroma. That's why it works fine for 4k 60hz 10bit HDR. At that resolution, it's hard to see artifacts other than text against a solid background.

    On Samsung TVs / monitors the RGB range is called HDMI black level. With two settings available being low and normal. I would guess those will match either the limited or full setting on PS4. Limited being set to HDMI black low and full setting being set to normal.

    I’ve always had problems with everything being too dark in HDR, every site I looked at said to set your ps4 to limited colors. Turns out my monitor does full color hdr smh. Automatic settings didn’t work. Don’t know why I didn’t try that until this video, but it’s made this monitor worth the money. Thanks!

      Automatic on the monitor or the PS4? Also, it is worth enabling HGiG if your monitor has it. It just disables any tone mapping done by the display, and relies only on the game content's mapping, or the PS4 system level HDR calibration.

    I have a strange HDR issue on PS4 Pro where my colour palette will suddenly change during gameplay.
    This happens mainly in warzone - transitioning to the gulag will suddenly make all of my colours appear darker.. or the opposite issue when leaving a dark bunker, the outside environment can wash out very bright - brighter than before I entered said bunker.
    The only way I can fix this is to cycle my adaptive contrast settings from high to off to high again and this restores the image to what I set it to.
    I'm using hdmi black level low and rgb limited. Hdmi port is enhanced so I can get 4K HDR.
    This issue has started since setting my HDMI port to enhanced. Never used to happen when I used 1080p HDR.

    My Video Output Settings are;
    2160p - YUV420
    RGB (Automatic)
    HDR (Automatic)*
    Deep Color (Automatic)*

    I have the exact same monitor as you, the issue I have is I've never seen good HDR. I have my PS4 pro set to auto on everything, did the calibration of the HDR settings but the HDR setting on the monitor just looks awful to me. Just washed out and looks like someone hiked the contrast up a lot and turned down the saturation a lot. The cinema HDR option or just going back to SDR looks way better to me, way more saturated on the red and blue channels. But the issue is, I don't know what HDR is supposed to look like. My only reference is a SDR. I guess I'm just confused, Like is the normal HDR setting on this how it is supposed to look? Or has anything I've described sound not quite right with the HDR output of my set-up. Sorry for the lack of detail, but I can't even share an image as it's only be crushed to SDR haha. All I can say is the only way I've found to get a nice image off HDR is using the cinema profile. Sorry for the awfully written post, colour is really hard to explain. Do you think there is anything wrong with using the cinema HDR profile for gaming on this monitor please? :)

    • @JohnGlasscock
      @JohnGlasscock  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally i use cinema hdr and hdr mode all the time with certain games. Unfortunately the only way to get a really good HDR picture is to spend over $1000 on a monitor 😬 Hopefully soon that will not be the case

    • @danielsf94
      @danielsf94 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnGlasscock Honestly, thank you so much for your reply! I was just worried cinema mode was adding too much latency or had some other issues like crushing colours (similar to the awful post processing on TVs) and glad to know I'm not the only one who uses it. Yeah you're absolutely right, it's a real shame good HDR still isn't at an affordable price point. As bad HDR is often just worse than SDR, at least anecdotally on my two fairly cheap 55-inch TVs and this monitor haha. I love the monitor we have for work, and the really low blacks are amazing in games and video. But getting the HDR to look passable has been a headache and every device I've used. Let's just hope micro LEDs, mini array LEDs and future OLED will help :)

    • @nathanpickering6742
      @nathanpickering6742 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielsf94 I would suggest still using game mode. Hdr set on auto for your tv will activate the wide colour gamut, which is Bt2020, and you'll get more colour volume and vibrancy. You'll also have more peak brightness and more clear detail in your image. But I think if you don't have a 10 bit panel, you can't make full use of HDR 10, which might cause problems like the image looking washed out. That's just my guess. I have the Sony a8h OLED tv which is a 10 bit display, so it'll make full use of HDR10. My colours get more then vibrant enough even with my colour settings set in the middle on default. I think some 8 bit displays can use HDR10 without any problems for movies, but for games it might be an issue depending on the game. Sorry if I'm rambling, that's just what I've been thinking. Maybe if you have your HDMI range set to limited then it could also cause problems in hdr. Try setting it to full range if you aren't already in it and see if that changes anything 👍.

    I have a Lot of doubts. I have an old Philips tv that has PC mode (which people Said that it's good for reducing lag) and I can see the Black colors on the test patterns only when I put some brightness up, but in the end It crushes ALL of the whites and then I have to adjust a personal color temperature to match the white error (usually lowering the greens). So...my tv don't have a rgb option, only a Gamma setting, and it's driving me crazy cause limited seems to make the colors washed out, yet full creates ALL that stuff that I mentioned.

    I get Real great Black and no washed out colors if i choose the bottom of the rbg settings in TV. I Set my ps4 pro to rgb full. And now i have Black Like it should be no feeling for washed out images anymore
