VoyagerAbove it's called crabbing. They do it when they're annoyed, scared, or just feel like scaring the hell out of you. I had 2 of them ❤️. They also bark! And it's loud. So it often woke me up at night because they're nocturnal.
They're so cute! I had a friend who bought Sugar gliders, but she realized pretty soon that she didn't have time to bond with them, and her dogs at the time were eyeing them up like chewtoys. I was really proud of her for finding them wonderful homes, and it's always great to see places like Animal Wonders teach others about such uncommon animals without showing them off like "pets" as many animal organizatons (at least in my area) do. Animals are cute, and cuddly, and beautiful, but they're also needy. Love the videos from this channel, by the way!
it would be really cool if you guys did an episode on fish keeping. because i think fish are probably the worst cared for pet out there. people think they can put a betta or a goldfish (which can grow up to a foot or more)inside a tiny bowl when they really need is a tank of at least 20-40 gallons. and I'd say 80%of fish owners don't even know what the nitrogen cycle is. i just really wish people would stop thinking of fish as disposable animals.
patelike Yeah, it's because they neither vocalise nor display body language like most animals do. Not even eyelid blinks to indicate their inner state. Without those external indicators most people assume fish don't HAVE any inner states. They look blank so they must be blank, by human reasoning.
Many funfairs have goldfishes as prize in France depispite the fact that it's illegal. It's like proposing to win kittens or puppies ! It's even worse, because people know how to take care of a dog.
I'm a new subscriber to your videos. I ran across it when looking at some other pet videos online. I have watched a good number of your videos and they're great. Keep up the good work. That sound of the sugar glider getting angry is how I sound getting up on monday for work.
I'd love to hear about sugar gliders as pets. You do a wonderful job at warning potential owners about the responsibilities and shortcomings of owning an exotic pet. You successfully cured me of my whim to own a fox (which I wouldn't ever attempt unless I had a house with a garden, but you've helped me get over the idea completely) , and also made me realize that I still want to have a chinchilla, and would be able to take proper care for it. So thanks for that :)
Question; Seeing as how these little fella's mark their territory with urine, and they spend a lot of time in that pouch. How often do you have to wash that pouch? Do you have extra's in reserve for wash day? Do they react differently after it's been washed?
The pouch needs to be changed regularly because, yes, it gets pretty stinky. We have quite a few pouches, different sizes, textures, and thicknesses. When th ey get a fresh one they don't like it as much as their old stinky one, but become associated within an hour or so.
I had to go back and make sure I heard right when Jessi said "about a year ago." Coulda sworn that was, like, last month. I guess you could say that time glides... (yeah, okay, I'll show myself out)
Sugar gliders are a ton of work and a ton of time. Seriously. Hours of research and lots of patience. But they are really cool pets. If you want to get one just do a ton of research and make sure you're ready for the commitment! Good luck.
I wanted a Sugar Glider since I was a little kid at a flea market, and there was this adorable older couple selling them. I fell in love with them immediately. The couple even offered a half-off discount to my mother (legitimately) because they saw how much I fell in love, but she wouldn't budge. I work from home now, as an adult, and the idea of having a little monkey sleeping in my pocket while I'm working is pretty tempting. The only problem is I am starting a new venture that may have me traveling, so now is probably not the time to start the bonding process. I'm putting it on the list, though. I'm pretty serious about taking responsibilities for animals you share your space with, so I definitely want to get it right.
How on earth can some people "not be into them"? They're extremely cute, social and fun! I'd keep a pair if I could. But then again, my family has labelled me an "Animal obsessive"...
JESSI how do you make the transition period after the death of a companion easier for an animal. I have a dog who is getting up in years and starting to show her age, she had puppies years ago and we've kept on. her adult puppy has never lived without her mother, and has always been submissive to our older dog. the puppy now has her litter mate who came back to live with my family when his owner couldn't have him anymore and we've started taking the puppies on outings by themselves without our older dog in hopes of easing the blow when our old dogs time come. but I'm concerned for the both puppies, they get visibly upset when their mother isn't around, until distracted and I fear the transition of her loss won't be easy for them, not to mention my family. help!
I had a friend who had sugar gliders. The first time I went to her house I saw a cage with a hat in it. I went to see if I could see what was in the cage and apparently I was too close for the gliders and they made "that" noise. I looked at my friend and told her that her hat seemed to be really piss off. Now "that" noise is the angry hat noise.
Sugar gliders have become such a novelty pet to have these days it actually makes me nervous. So many are giving up because people just don’t realize how noisy and rambunctious they can be at night.
Where do you get the meal worms for them? Do you keep a your own meal worm farm or buy them fresh? Have you considered raising meal worms/ insects to feed your insectivores?
how would you introduce sugar gliders? my baby, pumba, passed away leaving my little Timon all alone. what are signs to look for when you introduce them and what is a good age glider to introduce to a 6 year old neutered male?
So cute!! They're even smaller than I thought they would be ^^ I thought they would be about the size of a tarsier, or are those also smaller than I imagined they are?
These little guys are great, and its always lovely to see well looked after animals! I am curious why you said you'd tell their "rescue" story, when what you described was simply rehoming? If nothing else it seems kind of insulting to their previous owners!
Oh, it wasn't my intention to insult the previous owners, but just to share why we have them. Gizmo was illegally owned and if discovered by authorities he could very well have been euthanized. And Gadget was purchased as a pet and promptly abandoned, luckily he wasn't just left alone and ignored which happens to so many unwanted impulse buy pets. Just because they weren't in horrible condition when we met them doesn't mean they weren't rescued from the precarious situation they were in.
I bought my SG from a breeder and he is a boy named Neo. But since day one until now, six days and I still cannot hold him. He starts yelling when I call him or try to touch him. He even bites me, still won't let me touch him. But he is playful at nite, he likes his balls, toys, and food. Maybe I let him smell my human odor for a while. Maybe because his previous breeder never had time to play with him since there were too many of them in a cage.
It's surprising how intimidating an angry sugar glider can sound.
+VoyagerAbove No one would ever stick their hand in a dark hole if that sound came out of it! Super awesome defense!
VoyagerAbove it's called crabbing. They do it when they're annoyed, scared, or just feel like scaring the hell out of you. I had 2 of them ❤️. They also bark! And it's loud. So it often woke me up at night because they're nocturnal.
She’s SOOO hectic
I have made Sugar Glider pouches like you showed in this vid. Do you need more pouches or flannel liners?

+Kaytehh Just like human babies.

patelike I don't but my fish lived for quite a long time... my goldfish Jonah grew to about 6 inches and lived for over 6 years!
patelike Yeah, it's because they neither vocalise nor display body language like most animals do. Not even eyelid blinks to indicate their inner state. Without those external indicators most people assume fish don't HAVE any inner states. They look blank so they must be blank, by human reasoning.
The Emerald Men Official you probably stunted his growth or unless you had a fancy goldfish such as ryuhikin (probably spelled that wrong)
Yeah! Im gonna be getting my fish a new tank.

0:14 Yeah, that was pretty much the exact sound I made when I saw the thumbnail.
Hello animal wonders Montana! I first found this channel on epic at my school, and have been obsessed since.Love your videos!
I'm a new subscriber to your videos. I ran across it when looking at some other pet videos online. I have watched a good number of your videos and they're great. Keep up the good work. That sound of the sugar glider getting angry is how I sound getting up on monday for work.
Hi! Welcome! I can't help but smile when Gadget gets mad. Effective communication, but also super adorable.
That’s so funny! As a kid, my family had a sugar glider named Gonzo! He was amazing, and he lived a great life!
How cute!! Such fascinating little creatures :D
I kept these a couple decades ago and mine were named Gizmo & Gadget. Unreal. 😁

AnimalWonders Montana I have a question how can you tell them apart
They are so cute! And I'm so sorry about the loss of your sugar glider Nemo but congrats about Gadget!
Even when they're angry they're still adorable :-)

I was smiling this entire video, incredible animals
Gadget and Gizmo are soo cute

Aww, yay! I'm glad they're close now.

how would you introduce sugar gliders? my baby, pumba, passed away leaving my little Timon all alone. what are signs to look for when you introduce them and what is a good age glider to introduce to a 6 year old neutered male?
how can you not be into these sugar gliders
+Joey Ouyang Easy. They smell, they are ugly, they need too much space, ect. ect.
What is their average lifespan in the wild and where do they live. I knew the second part, but forgot.
When you wake them up in the day doesn't it interrupt their sleeping cycle or is it really easy for them to get back into it
Fun and informative
So cute!! They're even smaller than I thought they would be ^^ I thought they would be about the size of a tarsier, or are those also smaller than I imagined they are?
