Tali is a very good looking reptile; I've not heard of a Tegu before. She seems nice and calm in this video. I would never have considered that reptiles enjoyed being petted or stroked until I saw you petting your tortoise! Tali really leans into the forehead strokes!
Thank you! Tali is very cute and I didn't realize until recently how much they love being petted. I can tell she is enjoying herself. They have emotions just like all of us. I am sure of it and they feel pain too. I sign petitions for lizards and alligators and snakes in the skin industry. I hope you are feeling better. Love, big hugs, birdie spirit kisses. :)))

Awww, what a honey! Tali seems like the perfect combo for an animal ambassador... gregarious but calm, and a great size & shape to be less scary for soon-to-be reptile fans to interact with. 💚 (P.S.... is that a little blue Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair toy in Tali's enclosure? She has good taste! LOL)

I just wish they’d converted all the temperatures, not just the first two, because having to stop and convert them myself is disrupting my viewing experience.

Tali is a drop dead gorgeous teyu!
A different species of teyu is native to my area, and they're amazing. I specially loved seeing Tali burrow for the evening, as that's a behavior I'm not able to observe in the wild teyus. The funniest thing they do is carrying eggs in their mouths to eat later, it's so uncanny to see a huge lizard being so delicate as not to break the egg.
As a person with 9 amazing pet tegus I can safely say that tegus are the best!! Hands down. Everyone needs some Tegu love.

Oh, and be careful when taking tegus and other large lizards (aka lizards that can hurt you) outside. The natural sunlight will make you look a lot different because they can see in a broader UV spectrum than us and they freak out sometimes. 😅 My Nile who was decently natured believe it or not, went for me full force the first time I took him outside. It was like being in a surprise knife fight, only the knives were in his mouth 😅. Introducing myself to them outside while they're in a carrier is what I do now. If I recall correctly, my fellow biologist Clint from Clint's reptiles had his tegu freak out when he brought him outside as well.
Having his trusted human suddenly look very different must have been terrifying for him, so I’m glad you’re finding ways to make it less scary.
@@ragnkja I was terrified too. An angry 6ft Nile coming at you is a stomach dropping moment 😅😂. I couldn't even run because he was on his harness. I just kept talking to him and got him inside as quick as I could. He learned very quickly though.

Such a nice enclosure set up!
Ground chicken or turkey frozen in icecube trays. Then you can thaw however many you need. Also, quail eggs scattered in her enclosure would be fun for her.

Tali is gorgeous! My favorite bit was at 2:41. With all the substrate on her, I couldn't tell what part of her I was looking at until she flicked her tongue. I love that enclosure, too!

She's not full grown yet from the look of it. Most black and white Tegu get substantially bigger :) she's gorgeous Jessi. Hopefully she'll get a clean bill of health very soon.

We do! Pearl, the Colombian black and white tegu or golden tegu, has been with us since 2008. She was about a year old when we took her in and she's still doing great!
