He’s A Superhero, Whether He Likes It Or Not #BlueBeetle - Only in Theaters August 18
From Warner Bros. Pictures comes the feature film “Blue Beetle,” marking the DC Super Hero’s first time on the big screen. The film, directed by Angel Manuel Soto, stars Xolo Maridueña in the title role as well as his alter ego, Jaime Reyes.
Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.
Starring alongside Maridueña (“Cobra Kai”) are Adriana Barraza (“Rambo: Last Blood,” “Thor”), Damían Alcázar (“Narcos,” “Narcos: Mexico”), Elpidia Carrillo (“Mayans M.C.,” the “Predator” films), Bruna Marquezine (“Maldivas,” “God Save the King”), Raoul Max Trujillo (the “Sicario” films, “Mayans M.C.”), with Oscar winner Susan Sarandon (“Monarch,” “Dead Man Walking”), and George Lopez (the “Rio and “Smurf” franchises). The film also stars Belissa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories,” “Hocus Pocus 2”) and Harvey Guillén (“What We Do in the Shadows”). Soto (“Charm City Kings,” “The Farm”) directs from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (“Miss Bala”), based on characters from DC.
John Rickard and Zev Foreman are producing, with Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman and Garrett Grant serving as executive producers.
The director’s creative team behind the scenes includes director of photography Pawel Pogorzelski (“Midsommar,” “Hereditary”), production designer John Billington (“Bad Boys for Life”), editor Craig Alpert (“Deadpool 2,” “The Lost City”), Oscar-nominated costume designer Mayes C. Rubeo (“Jojo Rabbit,” the “Thor” films), visual effects supervisor Kelvin McIlwain (“The Suicide Squad,” “Aquaman”) and composer Bobby Krlic (“Midsommar,” the “Snowpiercer” series).
A Warner Bros. Pictures Presentation, a Safran Company Production, “Blue Beetle” soars into theaters only internationally beginning August 2023 and in North America August 18, 2023. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Vapostick (more specifically vapor rub) is a common tradition in hispanic and latin culture (also nicknamed "vaporu" in latin households). It solves all our problems, its like our "miracle cure". We often use it for coughing, bruises, bleeding wounds, sun burns, bumps and more. Id say its more of a placebo but then again we have used it for generations so maybe it does help lol
Ain't limited to just them, used in Dominican and Jamaican culture too.
@@kingdomcomesuperman3669 yes but my point was to explain why they were giving out vaposticks at the blue beetle premiere specifically
Thank you for clearing that up because I was rather confused by it!
However, it is a weird thing to give audience members though who are about to sit down to watch a DC film…
Must be an American thing!
We Ecuadorians known to use that too 😭😭🤣🤣
Same thing in Romania
Just got out of this, and I thought it was a very energetic, fun, and highly entertaining time. Loved Xolo in the role of Jaime Reyes, and the action sequences were on point: didn’t feel like a DC movie at all.
Wdym it didn’t feel like DC film?
@@purno2239I watched it too, it was way too light hearted and tonally inconsistent. It relied on comedy more than it should have.
@@thedrunkenyoda949 So basically mcu film
@@purno2239 or you know, the character
@@purno2239 Exactly
This looks like a good mid-2000's superhero movie.
I think it was pretty good and as a DC fan I really liked all the quick references they made to the rest of the DC universe
This movie was so good. It was so much better than I thought it would be. Excellent movie. I cried 5 times, it’s very emotional so anyone who is reading this if you haven’t seen it yet then make sure to have tissues with you when watching it. It had lots of heart and a beautiful love and bond with family. I loved it so much
Been watching your reviews going on 5 years, another great one Sean! You remain unbiased
Hes pedaling “superhero fatigue “ nonsense
I agree
That transformation scene when he first gets the suit is so crazy and scary tbh
I just got done with like 5 minutes ago. Loved it, it wasn’t perfect but I really enjoyed it. Super fun and energetic. I hope it does really good
Really good CBM! The entire cast esp Xolo Maridueña and George Lopez stole the show. It’s a 4/5 film for me
So, 8/10 basically
I’m excited to see it cause of Miguel from cobra Kai which is one of my favourite shows of all time, George Lopez (I used to watch his show and always found him hilarious), and also James Gunn confirmed that this version of blue beetle will be in the DCU so I’m pumped
100% agree with your DCEU vs DCU conclusion. It's dcu if it is well received, it's dceu if it is poorly received
The first movie without Wonder Woman/Gal Gadot cameo… hahaha…. The mystery continues if this is going to be DCEU or DCU.
Looks like a solid decent time. Checking it out tomorrow. My dad was really only convinced cause he loves Cobra Kai 😂
That's how it works. At least, back in the day
ur dad's a real one for loving cobra kai
That’s me lol. Only cuz of Cobra Kai
i love the format of this review, you know the different sections
So why did they hand out Vapo sticks? Can someone fill me in
I don't understand either...🤷
@@jefferickson8493its a mexican/cultural reference as as ointment that latina mothers give out to any ailments to their kids growing up
Its a cultural/mexican nod that mexican/latina mothers give out to their kids to alleviate
Awesome job on this review Sean my dude I'm definitely seeing this movie on Sunday and looking forward to watching it after hearing your thoughts on this and it looks like it's a movie worth seeing
I feel like the initial discourse surrounding this film was so negative because of James Gunn’s decisive takeover for DC combined with the overall mess that WB has been in for the past two years, which is really unfortunate because that doesn’t reflect the quality of this film at all! I’m so happy to hear such positive reviews and I’m really hopeful that it ends up exceeding its box office predictions!
Barbenheimer will continue to dominate any new movies, sadly…
What I understand is that the blue beetle movie isnt in the dcu but the character is, like a variant of him
No this version will be in the future dcu universe
Blue Beetle is connected to films like Superman Legacy & The Brave and the Bold, that means the Jaime Reyes will team up with the Batman that is being played by George Clooney! Also the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer is coming out on October 14th during New York Comic Con!
Appreciated your review! (watched this one after watching the movie)
I went in with low expectations because of negative reviews and thought it was actually good. Had it come out 10-15 years ago it would have been great.
I thought it was better than Guardians 2 & 3 (although my expectations were higher)
the social commentary in blue beetle was too on the nose but the story, characters and graphics were flesh out well. The leads did a great job
unfortunately they couldn't promote the movie cause of the strike so hopefully there will be another in the future
Glad it’s a decent watch after the controversy of the Flash
I probably go as far to say this is the best DC film of the year for me it’s self contained with actual heart to it and great family elements, The Flash could’ve been great but the execution was just a mess and made me more confused
Sounds a lot like Shazam 2019 honestly with the whole family thing.
Sorta but I think because they actually family and not adopted it hits a Lil different here
Great review Sean I can’t wait to see it myself
I am very excited to watch this and the reviews sound fantastic!
Pretty awesome movie. Awesome graphics and fun. The transformation sequences reminds me of The Guyer anime. Which i hope they make a real live action movie / series.
I do wish Blue Beetle had the open chest plates cannon like😊 Guyver…😂😂😂. But it would also be similar to Iron Man’s chest blast.
Just finished watching. It was fun enough, a step above quantumania and Shazam 2
Shazam 2 was better quantumania and this was way better than quantumania
I loved it. The family dynamics was thee star of it. George had me at Lopez.
The best part of the film is family. Vin Diesel already rates this movie 11/10
It’s the perfect Blue Beetle movie, I want to see more Jaime Reyes and Jenny Kord in the DCU. James Gunn needs to let another one happen.
Hope this movie doesn't flop because DC has been on a downward spiral when it comes to Box office
We can only hope Guts
It has a 100% chance of flopping
would be great if it did than we can finally get a clear restart and get rid of all the generic superhero crap
Wanted to say that it isn’t releasing for another month in countries like Australia so that it can come out in the holidays for us. This is also happening for TMNTMM so that will be part of the reason that the international box office is lower then what we would want
My part where a certain character died and Jaime went to see him kind of felt like when rocket almost died in guardians 3
Should’ve come out on March or April during superhero fatigue, because on that time I was in a mood for change of pace with something about family but after ATSV, Flash I’m in a mood for something big now. I’ll still go and see it if I have time, not gonna rush out and see it.
Hilarious, because a lot of people want smaller scale stuff and not more multiverse or bigger stuff
@@mugen9147I’m fine with multiverse stuff just make it good
@@mugen9147 I had that feeling during March-April haha
There is no superhero fatigue
@@chaserseven2886 Yeah you’re right, people called it that haha.
Going to see this today! I’m excited!
Im starting think we got a great year of movies. Action, animated, and comic book movies.
Enjoyed it, but I’m not sure how memorable it will be. I think I’ll end up reflecting on Strays more in the long run.
So would say this to make it easier. Blue Beetle was green lit by the old heads of DC. Making it a DCEU. However DCEU ended with the flash. BB is the first DCU movie before James Gunn was Co-CEO. Superman:Legacy is the first DCU movie made under James Gunns slate. Hope It makes sense. (Aquaman is not really known bc of its delays and connections being retconned)
Was waiting for vin diesel to come in and say its about family lol.
I HIGHLY enjoyed this film. Okay its certainly has it's generic elements. But i don't care. Its generic in a way thats still highly consumable. With some pretty good effects, Fast action scenes, A charming cast. I'd give it a 7.9/10
This film is now in my top 5 in my DCEU ranking
I ENJOYED
Someone explain me the whole vapo stick thing?
What movie theater do you go to and do you own a movie theater membership?
i love the cast and its also a good, funny but also a very emotional film i really enjoyed it and i hope we see a part 2 but i doubt it
Can someone explain the vapo stick
it’s up just like u promised 🥺
Greg Kinnear as Ted Kord for Blue Beetle 2
I love my students talking about how awesome was Bluebeetle lots of them watch it with their dads.
Can I get a vapo sticks explanation?
The things mentioned in this review are exactly what I would have picked out. Solid review that's more refreshing than the usual "DC movies suck, Marvel is superior". HOWEVER, I will say, technically blue beetle was created before Ironman and Antman. They just had live action made before blue beetle got there. So if anything, GET READY TO SEE THE ORIGINAL STORY TROPE EVERYBODY. 😂 This seems like a movie made for fans who are already familiar with blue beetle.
Jaime Reyes's blue beetle debuted in 2006, the previous two version don't have much similarities with this one
Loved it… DC fans need to show up to the theaters and support! Cobra Kai fans as well!
How could you not talk about how emotional certain parts are?!
I'm probably waiting for streaming. I'm just no longer invested in the universe with the reset coming to see it in theaters. I'm much more invested in Star Wars or MCU.(despite some projects being not so good in recent memory ^^)
Fair enough. For me, by investment, I’d go:
3. MCU (no investment. The future of the franchise doesn’t seem interesting to me. Everything I cared for is now gone, or reached a satisfying conclusion in my head canon. No Way Home and Guardians 3 being examples. Everything else hasn’t left a good impression on me, outside of Shang Chi and Hawkeye and Kate. Just interested in outside Marvel stuff like Spider Verse and Spider-Man 2 PS5)
2. DC (could go up depending what Gunn does. DCEU is just whatever, but things like The Batman and My Adventures with Superman keep me around)
1. Star Wars (Forever my favorite piece of media, but the sequel trilogy, Boba Fett, Obi, and Mando S3 were all horrible or disappointing imo. But Mando S1 and 2, Andor, especially Visions, Clone Wars coming back, Rebels, and Rogue One have all made it a lot more tolerable)
It's self contained. Does not necessarily belong to either, character is being carried over to dcu
This is actually the first movie in the new DC universe
@@cocopuffs1013 It could be DCU or DCEU.
Lul. Mcu needs more of a reboot than dcu 😂
Whats up with the vics
I loved this movie. My favorite of all times.
Awesome!
Why’d they hand out vapo sticks?
Because Mexicans use vapor rub to cure everything.
I recommend watching young Justice. It’s an excellent show. Top 5 of dc shows!
So whats the valpostick stuff
Yeah I’m lost on that too lol

People are talking about the comedy of the movie but the comedy doesn’t over stay its welcome. The serious scenes actually get to breathe and are almost never undercut for cheap laugh. I thought the villain was a cheap copy like Obadiah, Darren Cross, etc at first but they characterized and humanized him very well towards the end of the movie. Overall it was a fun movie and I will definitely re watch when it hits streaming. My only slight complaint is that its slightly formulaic but it is a superhero origin movie so whatever lol. 7.5/10
I get concerned when people describe a movie as "fun" because the substance tends to de deluded for laughs. That being said, I LOVE Blue Beetle in the comics so I am absolutely seeing it
It's "fun" when it needs to be, but trust me, it's also serious when it needs to be as well. There's some good emotional moments and the story does get a little "dark/adult" without needing to be rated R. Definitely worth seeing!
It’s what a self contained comic book movie should be it’s not perfect but it has heart
@@mikepratt6481are h sure? Because peoples definition of dark and adult tend to differ from mine.
@@dosomestuff1949 yes, there's some things that happen late in the movie that add some emotional weight to the movie. It's not just just a fluffy action movie.
@@mikepratt6481 also did the opening scene have some absolutely seat shaking boomy sound
I thought this movie was great very fun since I didn't know to much about the Blue Beetle and I actually enjoyed it more because of that I think when it comes to other Comics film my biggest problem is when you take a know Superhero that's not a light hearted character and they change it so it could fit with there other light hearted, wacky and funny films that are in there Universe It never works ever since the first Guardians and Deadpool the studios been pushing for every Superhero film to be like that and it's been lowering the quality of the films because not all Superhero movies should be like Guardians and Deadpool
This movie was great. We needed a superhero movie where the hero is allowed to be the hero
I'm thinking about why DC is not even thinking about including magic users to their movies I mean they need to made cameos including Raven, Zattana or John or other magic users who are related to their main character movies I think they will not go flop
I definitely had a good time with the movie. The superhero side of the movie is very generic however the family core was actually much more funny and heartfelt than I expected and so it won me over in that regard. Also I think the trailer definitely gave away too much.
@krazykajeevieofc it's a joke
@krazykajeevie it was just a joke
The end credit scene was a tribute to the actor who portrayed el chapulin colorado i think
Perfect flims so much fun with it, the flaws I had were so small it still was a 10/10. My 2 mirnor flaws was how was Batman superman and flash referenced when this is a new universe? And the exploisin scene at end looked very bad.

Dude, this was a good movie, especially for a DC flick. I wasn't expecting anything and barely heard of Blue Beetle. I got invested in the characters. Not woke 👍👍
Blue Beetle is really good! Cobra Kai is my favorite Netflix show.
It was a good movie, one of the better dceu films. I didn't feel too strongly that it was amazing or one of the best superhero movies but it was solid. An interesting thing about this movie was it was originally going to be released on HBO Max and I will say it's definitely movie theater quality good.
Should I watch this in the theater or should I just watch it at home, cuz I got a sound system at home as wel
@@dosomestuff1949 if you like seeing blockbusters in theaters and you just enjoy going to the movies it won't disappoint. It's by no means bad it's really solidly entertaining, but it's not like a must see in theaters if you want to wait.
It’s weird. I liked when it was about the scarab and the backstory with Ted and Jenny. BUT, with the family being present, it felt like Spy Kids. I felt this was a movie that would’ve been better if we had gotten a Ted Kord Blue Beetle movie and followed a story that was already set up a few movies ago.
I don’t think it is going to do well in the box office. My theater was not super crowded for Thursday night screening. Barbenheimer will probably stay on top?
The movie was okay, but I like the first Shazam more. This is Ironman/Bloodshot with a Mexican family? It is good for representation, but not breaking any new ground.
0:28 you haven’t seen or played Injustice 2?
Sean frogot about shazam in the first part of thi review
7:46 Meaning that the character Blue Beetle is canon but the events of this film aren't
Vapo sticks?
I say worth seeing in Theaters…..
8/10
9:20 that is totally Maximillian from The Black Hole
13:21 he means max😑
I liked it. 7/10
The movie is a 7 at best, but George Lopez makes it an 8. They played is stupidly safe. Hero gets powers, learns powers, someone close to hero dies/injured, hero gets captured/powerless/injured, hero seems to be failing, but gets hope practically from nowhere predictably, villain loses, hero gets girl. I mean how many movies do we know like that? Superhero fatigue is real and I understand why someone would not like this film.
It is his origin movie so they would play it safe.
Man I was really surprised by this movie. I thought it was great
I liked this movie it was nice to watch a family film that does not revolve around uncle issues or daddy issues.
so much about family it almost feel like fast and furious
I really liked this movie, the best parts for me were the characters and the family dynamic. I do agree, the plot and the villains are very generic.
They tried to be Guardians 2 with the family dynamic too much, but it didn't work with anything
Guardians act not like this family this is a real family
I'm sure if I believe that this review is genuine or not compared to Tyrone and Jeremy's reviews
It’s a 5/10 from me…
Blue Beetle is a boilerplate film welded together out of useable spare parts lifted from more successful and entertaining superhero films. Instead of redefining a genre and imbuing it with new life via a vibrant cultural backbone, Blue Beetle only further enhances the feelings of growing superhero fatigue.

yeah, I thought this was indeed a fun little side adventure. Nothing special, but just a fun time at the movies. The humor was very weird though. It felt like it belongs in a animation movie.
Another Iron man
No.
Little did we know the supervillain Susan Sarandon played in this movie is nothing compared to the supervillain she is in real life
Sorry about my x comment Sean 😂
Jaime's original - and by far best - solo series was all about defying tropes, so this movie being so damn generic (and loosely based on his third series) pains me to no end.
Yeah but the difference is that this is the first Latino superhero movie so that right there alone is different
This is pretty much DCU
I love the character, but it is not good. Powers were inconsistent. Regular people show no skills and then unbelievable skills. It's not a this is what happens if this was real life. It's a ridiculous campy show. I am glad to have a Blue Beatle. I hope he shows up in the universe.
The main question is can this film even break even by 100 million box office?
When the beloved Flash couldn't do it sadly this film has no chance
