      It's probably being embezzled due to a lot of entertainment companies exploiting a loophole that enables them to pay themselves. The money's usually pretty much gone by the time it starts at CEO, works it's way down to Media/Advertising relations, goes through to directors then executive producers to casting and film crew and so on and by the tail end you have post production companies out bidding eachother for the contract to see who can/will do it for the least amount of money and whoever gets the job inherits what's left for CGI and editing as well as sound. You're looking at less than 50k on a 100 million dollar movie and we see the end result of all that greed in quality on-screen.

    I loved Jaime and I loved the reboot (reorigin?) for Carapax, it makes sense on why he'd fight Jaime. The actual film? I liked the Jaime solo scenes, but I heavily dislike the whole idea of a family fighting with the hero. I want Jaime, THE Blue Beetle, not his entire family.

      I totally agree, ever since Suicide Squad, I feel like DC has been so obsessed with on family teams or pseudo-family teams. When in reality, they should be solely focused on the main character’s development and growth. Especially when you have a character in the Blue Beetle, who is a lesser known hero among the general public audience. I honestly liked the family initially but was completely sick of them by the end of the movie.

  • @Koncura

    I honestly think what hurts these origin story films is that they have become cookie cutter to the nth degree to the point that when you watch the trailers you know what lines that will be said, you know the beats of the plot before you know the characters. Add in the fact that film budgets have inflated to an insane level, and a solid chunk of that budget goes into reshoots as such the VFX department doesn't have the needed time to do proper good looking CGI so they just look like CW-level CGI. Introduce the marketing that these companies do, that inflates the amount of money required to break even to double or sometimes even triple the cost of the film budget. Companies have forgotten that the reason blockbusters are name such is that maybe 2 to 4 high budget films would come out a year, and when they came out it was an event effectively, you go see that movie several times because it just stuns you with great story and cinematography. They've forgotten that the movies that would carry them to be able to make such films are the lower 50-80 million dollar budget movies. Instead most films that gets made nowadays are these extremely high, downright ridiculous, budget "blockbusters" that burn their budget on reshoots so they just bleed money instead.
    Sorry for the rant, I've just gotten so tired of origin story after origin story that never gets expanded upon because the movies flop. Give me the hero/anti-hero in year 2 or 3 of being super, there's still plenty of room for growth as they haven't had their powers for that long. Can't also forget superhero fatigue, people just being burnt out of seeing these spectacles.

    • @ThePSWarrior
      @ThePSWarrior ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sorry, I'm trying to understand. How is there "plenty of room for growth as they haven't had their powers for that long" if they're being first shown in their second or third year ? I mean, at that point, wouldn't they have their abilities for more than 700 days and in that time, they still haven't gotten a full handle on their powers ?

    • @Koncura
      @Koncura ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ThePSWarrior Room for growth as in creativity with their power. They could be thinking in a one dimensional way of usage, but a roadblock occurs where creativity with their power is required and not brute force. That's what I mean with room for growth. After all if the worst thing you've fought so far is criminals with money and no one super yet, you would think brute force is all you need to put them down. Of course, their is also the case of they have been fighting other supers, but none have been able to push them to the envelope of what their power really can do. So effectively year 1 (origin) is gathering their bearings of what having powers does to their life, getting accustomed to this new thing that exists within them, fighting some sort of lower tier baddie, super or not. Year 2/3, they understand the fundamentals of the power along maybe playing around with minor things of their power as little tricks, but haven't been pushed to that edge of being completely eclipsed in power. To the point where they must come up with new applications of their power to level the playing field.
      I understand that my initial comment didn't expand on that point, so hopefully this kind of does a better job of explaining what I meant.

    • @dianapennepacker6854
      @dianapennepacker6854 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sick of super heroes persay. Just sick of them always repeating the same crap.
      Also so many of these heroes are OP, and perfect Marry Sues. No freaken room for growth if your character is literally Superman and has one weakness. Or the Flash who can control time.
      Also more rated R superhero movies can come out for sure. Same with Sci Fi - Bobba Fett running a sopranos style mafia would be awesome.

    I agree with pretty much everything you said here. The part that I wanted to see the most was Jaime's relationship with the Scarab. In the comics the Scarab can speak to Jaime whenever he wants like Venom but we never really saw that. We didn't get to see them Bond at all or try to understand each other. I know in some of the comics Jamie's big struggle is keeping the scarab's more psychopathic tendencies at bay. The way I took it is in a lot of the comics the Scarab sees the world in a very black-and-white view and has no problem killing people if they're in his way. Obviously Jamie is a good person and doesn't want to kill people and he understands nuance, something the Scarab does not. One of the most interesting parts of Jamie's struggle is him literally doing his best to keep the Scarab at bay because the Scarab is literally a part of him and they only become more symbiotic as time goes on. I would have liked to see that in the movies as well. Whether or not they make a second one or just have him be in a different superhero movie I do want Xolo to come back as the Blue Beetle. He was definitely the best part of the movie!
    Even that scene at the end where Jamie has one last conversation with his father and you said technically that with the Blue Beetle manipulating Jaime gave the Beetle more personality than the rest of the story. It showed that the beetle will do whatever it needs to do to survive. And then that moment it needed Jamie to accept his father's death and to accept the Blue Beetle for both of them to survive. I really enjoyed your take of that. I never thought of it like that before!

As a Puerto-Rican, I can confirm being loud and over the top and annoying even when your're trying to be understated or serious is part of the package. • @DinnerBells
      @DinnerBells ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@DinnerBells
      to be fair, the disappointing Superman movies with Cavill are a bit questionable and canning him was the best option not because of Cavill but because Superman is too difficult to portray on live action without looking too cheesy.
      Plus the same method that Gunn is using is basically what Marvel did.
      If you weren't aware, barely anyone gave a shhttt about Ironman before RDJ played him.
      Hell, he wasn't even well liked in the comic book community since Tony Stark in the comics was a huge a-hole and sometimes even portrayed like a villain due to how shhttty he was.
      Even Captain America wasn't even well known or well liked prior to his Chris Evans played him. And that's mainly because Cpt. America in the comics was *BORING*
      Natasha Romanoff was barely known, so was Clint (a.k.a. hawkeye) since he was a C-list Avenger.
      The only well known Marvel characters before the MCU were Spiderman, , Hulk, the Fantastic 4 & the X-men.
      Hell, even the GotG wasn't well known and the ones the MCU used were not the OG GotG and the ones that was used in the MCU barely sold any copies at all.
      Barely any of the MCU characters were mainstays or very popular in the comics.
      So no, you clearly don't know shhhhttt about what you're saying and clearly have never read a comic book before.
      And with Gunn has done in the DCEU, the new Suicide Squad and Peacemaker were great.
      If Cavill Superman were to return, it has to be later on when a proper DCEU was made.

    Honestly, I think this movie did not go far enough. There are plenty of ideas that could have been explored that warrants. The whole explanation of how the Blue Beetle suit works by making weapons from anything you can imagine, was it explored or executed well enough. We see the Blue Beetle makes a cloud Buster sword and even uses a couple limit Breakers. You don't think that could have been expanded to other anime Trope such as Naruto with a fully powered Rasengan? Or what about, a high-yield explosive missiles. If your imagination is the only limit, it's pretty much the same Powers as the Green Lantern. Get creative. Destructively creative. But I also think they pushed too much onto the Spanish representation as well. Maybe if they pulled back a little bit more maybe more people would have seen this movie. But what do I know, it's not like I'm a comic book fan and movie Associates. Especially the classics.

    I liked this movie overall.
    The receptionist thing really didn't make sense, as he didn't hand hand her a piece of paper with his name, or sign in at the desk; he TOLD her his name. It just made me think they were going for the cheap "rich white people" joke (when that secretary probably makes just a little more then Jaime's dad made at the garage, and probably also pays a bunch of money to a Kord landlord).
    It was weird that they were cheering the way the Bug ship butchers the guards; that one dude was stuck on the leg. This was probably another lower/middle class dude who had his abdomen crushed by a robobug, and this family is joking about it.
    Really thought Kord's message was going to be "Don't activate the Scarab; it's masters will destroy our world," but I guess they're saving that for the sequel? or part 3 of the Blue Beetle Trilogy- Blue Beetle 3: Rise of the Reach?

      It was more about racism. White people do not like to say unfamiliar names correctly all the time. Office people also tend to stereotype BIPOCS as servants than see them as people with the same or even better positions than them. It's a Canon event for most office BIPOCS.

      I 100% agree with you on the receptionist thing. When I was in the theaters, I just saw the movie yesterday, that didn't make any sense to me at all. Like you said its not like he wrote his name down so she would have no choice but to pronounce it the way he told her to pronounce it. It would make more sense if she saw his name and kept saying Jamie instead of How It's actually pronounced. I really enjoyed the actor that played Blue Beetle and the actual Blue bettle scenes but other than that the movie was okay to me.

    I'd say the issue with the conflicting states from Gunn is the fact he has to promote and support films he has no relation to. It's sad because he makes great films and has the skill required to build these characters, the issue is that WB/DC's previous regime of shitty fioms was passed onto him.
    I know Gunn will produce, write abd direct great films but because of the bad public reception from the previous films will make it an uphill battle. He should have said none of the films are canon and only some actors will return.

    This breakdown lists every problem I had with this movie. Thank you.
    And the fact that it's had many misleading (at least to me) glowing reviews thus far is confusing. Seriously, do people not see these issues. Or are people so quick to want a Latino superhero that they're willing to overlook things, both the production making this and the audience viewing it in a positive light. And even on that note, the persistent victimization is insulting. That receptionist and Victoria, deliberately mispronouncing Jaime's name and calling her scientist a generic Mexican name respectively. That nonsense doesn't happen normally. A work of fiction may have a flying thunder god, but people still communicate the same way IRL. Even if you wanna imply that classist Victoria is so above the plebians under her that she's absent minded about their names. No. She repeatedly calls him by the same wrong name. That is malicious intent by the characters (one of which was a random receptionist with no backstory on why she would suddenly be a bitch to someone she just met just because he's not White), that you wrote in and tried to enforce as a common victimization of Mexican people.
    Gunn said that this is not the first DCU movie, but Jaime is in the DCU. So, I sincerely hope this gets redone properly.

Firstly, the suit just looked cool🤷🏼‍♂️, second I thought xolo did a great job with what he was given, and lastly because the last several DC movies have majorly sucked in one way or another this one felt light stakes and fun. Things I didn’t like/would change; the villain was very blah.the scarabs voice. I like how creepy it sounds I’m young justice. I would have liked the tendrils/legs on the scarab moved more/attacked more. And finally I just find the idea of the scarab hating his dad and causing a wedge between them an engaging story line.

    Young Justice did Blue Beetle soo much better.
    I hate how he got chosen and it's never really explained why aside from, he was chosen.
    In YJ, Ted Kord fights of Supervillain Slade and in an ensuing explosion, the scarab, being studied by Kord gets launched far away. Jaime finds the scarab by chance and gets bonded. Note that the scarab is an alien infiltrator that wouldn't care much who it bonds to, as long as it snags a local alien and bends it to their whim.
    YJ shows that Jaime would have been an everyman who CHOOSES to be a hero when given an opportunity as opposed to being chosen for it.
    Either way Warner Bros chooses bad storytelling over anything else, each and every time.
    Their entire animated DC line up gets progressively worse since Flashpoint.

    I think the problem is the DC reboot was announced before the end of the DCEU. Fans are divided with some wanting the snyderverse and others wanting it gone. DC should just focus on stand alone movies like the Batman and Joker to build the brand back. DCs brand is just too damaged to build a connected universe

    Why is the scarab in the big orb at the start of the movie but Garret and Kord already had it? I don't remember an explanation in the movie. Any help?

      There is no explanation in the film and the scene ends up conflicting with information thats revealed about it having already bonded to Dan Garrett.

    The whole movie could've been avoided if millie could just follow simple instructions, "do not open the box and do not touch"
