This is a bit off topic, but ever since Sean first brought up the idea of “creative inbreeding”, I’ve really seen creativity in a whole new light. It’s a pretty fantastic way to talk about the lack of inspiration.
@weirdoelias it means when people get inspirations to make something by just looking at their own source and not branching out to bring something new to the table. It's like if you want to write a story about a dog and his boy but only look at stories that talk about "a boy and his dog." You don't look at other sources to make it pop. Yes, read within your genre but also branch out. For example, if I wanted to write a dog and his boy story, I could look to Old Yeller but then I could also look to, say, Two Kinds and showing how generational people look at raising animals. If you want more details, Sean made a video about creative inbreeding. Just type in Sean Chandler Plus stale or fresh and you'll get a deeper meaning to what he's talking about.

Just rewatched the dark knight today and I think my favorite part of it is just how tight it is. Every piece of dialogue matters and every big moment feels set up perfectly when you watch it again. Add to that incredible performances and Batman and you get an amazing movie
I've always thought it'd be better if they cut out that entire unnecessary trip to Japan and trimmed the ending so it ends with Joker being captured, and leaving Two-Face for a part 3.
When the dark Knight came out, it was in a whole league of its own during a different time. But with so many other comic book movies today, now you can start comparing it to other comic book films. But personally the dark Knight still feels different from everything else that we gotten today. 🖤💙🖤
Speaking on the point that Superman is dated: I never found the age of a movie to be the critical factor on whether a movie is overrated or not. Like, to me Casablanca is just as relevant and great today as it was back in the day. Even when it comes to movies that require effects, take something like 2001: A Space Oddyssey, it's 55 years old, but I think it holds up perfectly, whereas when it comes to a movie such as Mission Impossible II, it's under 25 years old, but it's pretty dated
@@EazyRocko The Godfather was made 50 years ago, but it hasn't aged a day as far as I'm concerned, and J feel like those are the movies that are remembered as the greatest: the ones that transcend the passage of time and generations. Nobody can deny the impact Superman had on comic book movies, but its quality diminishes as every year goes by, and that's not something that happens to every "old" movie. It's objective criticism, it's not just a problem I personally habw with it
Sean, I think you said it perfectly, the first 2 Superman movies are dated in terms of costumes and especially special effects but not overrated. They're classics that opened the door and let's see if many of these MCU movies are still being talked about when they hit 45 years. Also, Christopher Reeves is still the greatest casting that I've seen for a comic book character and every actor after him has always been in his shadow.
The only MCU movies that will be remembered like that could be Iron Man Cap Winter Soldier Guardians 1 Black Panther 1 Infinity War Some of these are my favorites, butthese are the ones I'd believe to live through a Century.

Batman Returns is the most underrated DC movie. A lot of people have forgotten this movie as time passed and I think it’s a shame because it is such a beautifully dark, gothic, melancholy film. I think it’s an incredible piece of superhero cinema and I wished it had a little more praise in general

In my opinion, the chronobowl makes sense to have the funky CGI, it's meant to give that uncanny and unnatural vibe like Barry is altering something he shouldn't. But Flash's suit in the battle against Zod just looks so weird to me, the suit should had been mainly practical since it's not a Spider-Man situation where you can't see his face. Also the floating above the ground look is something that came from Snyder where since he's going at such high speeds, there's no longer any friction so it just looks like he glides across the ground. Muschietti wanted to continue Snyder's vision of Flash's powers which makes sense but it can look a bit fake.
Smallville doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. I believe that it’s popularity at the time was the reason for the Arrowverse being created, also the reason for Marvel to try working on television. I definitely think that, after the failure that was Batman & Robin, it had a helping hand in why superheroes are as big as they are on film and television today.
I didn’t watch Smallville on it’s initial run, I just thought it was a teen soap and never interested me. Finally watched it not long after the final season and thought it was excellent, especially in it’s later seasons. It has my favourite Clarke, Lex and Lois of all time. 👍👍
I think TDK is an amazing movie, but I can see how someone would think it’s overrated. Everyone always talks about it like it’s God tier. Like, people get offended if someone doesn’t like it which is crazy. I love the movie, but I’m slapping people who don’t.
The thing about TDK is that when people talk about it the thing they always say is the highlight is Ledger's performance and rightly so because he elevates the movie from decent to really good, imo take Ledger's joker out and replace it with Leto's joker and the film would be seen as average.
I think alot of people cant/wont admit reason why they loved TDK think its the best , is the sole reason of Heath Ledger's role of the Joker & his untimely death soon after it's filming had a huge impact on its release.
Exactly! When people talk about TDK they always talk about Ledger's Joker and nothing else... take him out and replace him with Leto's joker and people will see how average the film is, nothing else will stand out.
I feel the movie wouldn't have got as overprasied if ledger never died. I feel his death and the rumors behind his death drove more people to see the movie that normally wouldn't have seen it. I heard from people many went to go see it that never saw batman begins or ever cared to see a batman movie or any superhero movie but went to see it after news of ledger death on the news and rumors the movie made him committ suicide. That people felt he deserved a oscar for killing himself making this movie for us. I dont know why he committed suicide but I heard back then there were rumors that he got so deep into character that it made him suicidal. I feel if he never died he wouldn't have won a award or even gotten nominated. When batman begins first came out it didn't get tons of praise at first but later did after tdk came out. I feel tdk would have gotten the same amount of praise as batman begins when it first came out if ledger never died.

I think so too, I love Heath Ledger as The Joker but at the same time I feel like he caused people to think The Dark Knight is much better than it actually is, like if you switched him out with say Jack Nicholson’s Joker people would still like the movie fine but it would not get the kind of praise it does now, it would just be seen as a *good* movie and that’s it
@@manvirshergill1739 i remember being at Barnes & Noble in Comic section where DC/Marvel stuff was, and overheard a guy telling his younger brother Bane from TDKR isnt comic version accurate that's best one. Explaining to him differance from Comic Book version from versions Nolan made them in his films as he intended them as.
I know that people have cried out in the past for a live- action adaptation of the Long Halloween, but between The Dark Knight, The Batman, and an animated adaptation in 2021 starring Jensen Ackles, we're already there.
Actually, with a few exceptions, I think the effects of the Donner movies hold up extremely well, especially considering that a lot of the technology they were pioneering was new and revolutionary at the time. They deserve credit for that.
I adore Batman. He's one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, but I find The Dark Knight overrated. Despite the smart directing and casting, the film just comes across as a film shouting out philosophies about justice and chaos rather than an intriguing piece of media. Also, I think it takes itself too seriously for a Batman film, which is ironic given the Joker's famous "Why so serious?" line. I think that Batman is inherently too odd to work in any film that strives for realism. The Dark Knight strips away all of the creativity of Batman in favor of a more bland feeling crime thriller. Also, the romance subplot really falls flat, imo. Bruce Wayne's big plan in the film is "Hey, Harvey Dent, can you be the symbol of hope instead of me? You can do all the hard work, while I try to talk your girlfriend into dumping you and getting together with me."
Not sure if this is really a hot take or not but: Zimmer's scores for the Nolan Trilogy are better than Danny Elfman's scores for the Tim Burton films.
Not really a hot take, but I think people are generally split on it. Elfman's main theme is more hummable, but Zimmer's score is more atmospheric and pulse pounding.
I think that the original Superman films are timeless masterpieces. They and Superman Returns capture the heart of the character more so than any of the big screen films that came afterwards.
I have also always thought that The Dark Knight was really overrated. There are just too many plot holes, weird cuts and the ending just never worked for me. I would rather watch The Dark Knight Rises.
Agreed. You know what's funny, a lot of these people give Tim Burton a lot of flack for Batman Returns because his fingertip were all over that movie yet Nolan did the EXACT SAME THING with TDK. It's just comes off as bias towards Nolan. My Hot Take: My Favourite Batman Movies are: The Batman, Batman'89 and Batman Vs TMNT Honourable Mentions: Under the Red Hood and Batman Returns. I understand Tim Burton's style isn't for everyone, even if I enjoy his style, but let's not pretend Nolan's style is for everyone. It's like everyone had a long speech in the TDK Trilogy.
I feel like when it comes to "creative inbreeding" you could only really see that in comic book movies when you could tell there was a lot and that a lot was coming out every year. I think this is because it is harder to make a type of movie not feel stale (whatever type of movie that is) whenever there are more of them out and more of them that are getting made because you eventually reach a point where since so many are coming out it is both more important and more difficult to feel fresh and harder to make them not feel stale. This is because if there are so many different entries in a genre then it is a lot harder to find a way to tell this entry in this genre feel distinct because we've already seen a bunch of different ways this story can be told so the question when making an entry in a genre "how do you make this entry in the genre feel distinct" because you know you need to so you can differentiate yourself from the other entries and have come out and/or are coming out. On a final note, I know this may seem weird but I feel like The Dark Knight a film that took inspiration from outside of its genre (eventually) made it more important to make comic book movies feel more distinct (and they are many ways of doing things but taking inspiration from outside the genre is differently an amazing one) because this film (and Iron Man which came out the same year) to some extent started the second comic book movie boom (the first was started by X-Men 2000 and Iron Man was part of the reason this happened because it made the MCU and in turn, DCEU to happen) because since it did so well critical and financially (being the first comic book movie to join the billion dollar club) and should just how well a comic book movie could do (again critically and financially) it made studios greenlight a bunch of more comic book movies because it did so well. I am not saying that's a bad thing but from my perspective, it adds a bit of irony to the legacy of The Dark Knight. 8:18 I also think that it is important to mention the fact that BatGirl has high heels which anyone can tell you are terrible in any fight.
In my opinion, the reevesverse should be the main universe for the DCU. I know it doesn't make sense but that's why it's my hot take. I meant The Batman would be the first movie like Iron Man was for the MCU
Aww, I didn't see the request for DC hot takes lol So here's mine: Leto's Joker in Suicide Squad was good and gets unnecessary hate, and I think that's because people didn't understand the reason for the character (probably because so much was cut out). In my view, he fits the modern era perfectly. If we had a Joker from this generation, who was in his late 20s or early 30s, that's likely how he would look and behave.

In my opinion about the dark knight is that it should have ended with with joker escaping in the police car. I stand by that. Everytime I watch the movie after that scene I lose interest in the movie and just wishing it was over. The entire third act in the building just feels like like plot armour just for them to use the sonar equipment more.
My gripe with the dark knight is that they rushed the Harvey dent plot, they should have let him live and let him become the villain in the dark knight rises
In my honest opinion,Gunn should have waited to announce his slate until after the four movies from Dc(Flash,Shazam 2,Aquaman 2,blue beetle)came out,see how they did and then announce it. But in all honesty,I’m not really excited for anything new from Dc or Marvel,cause I’m just numb from all the back and forth from all the pro Gunn/Snyder and the anti Gunn/Snyder fans,as well as people complaining Disney and their politics and people saying that “well you just didn’t like it cause your this and this”, I just don’t care anymore. I think overall, The DCAU will always be my DC Universe. Everything felt accurate and was very good, minus a few little things. So I think it was better than most of the Other DC Universes.

The dark knight unfortunately with no intent of Nolan’s benefited significantly from Legers death. Batman Begins was great but was under the radar of pop culture. Legers death brought eyes to the sequel and likely pushed it to be the highest grossing movie at the time. Unfortunately the next movie would be tied to the Aurora Colorado theater shooting.

The Dark Knight is an absolute masterpiece. I know some people have a problem with the ending but I love it. Also, I really liked The Flash. Is the CGI straight garbage at some points? Yes. But I thought it was a good movie and the ending hit me in the emotional feels. The Flash is a great example of people jumping on the bandwagon of hating something without even giving it a shot which of course hurt it in the box office.
@@manvirshergill1739 It has a brilliant plot, great performances from Ledger and Eckhart, it does a fantastic job of building tension, It has a fleshed out world, It’s deep, the music is great, it’s got a fantastic and unique ending (for a comic book movie), etc. The movie just feels so different from any other comic book movie. Sure, it’s not one of the greatest movies of all time. It definitely has it’s flaws. But it’s pros outweigh its cons by a lot.
I have no nostalgia at all for Superman: the movie, but I think the special effects are excellent and better than a lot of super hero movie effects and the story is brilliant with the people from Godfather at the helm. I don’t get people that say this movie is dated as hell, it looks better than Thor 4, Doctor Strange 2, The Flash, the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, etc. That said, Superman II is one I can agree that feels dated, the villains felt very cheesy.
My hot take is that the TH-cam hype machine for geek content is depending on the DCU’s success to have a sustainable future. Specially now with the audience’s interest in marvel dwindling.
My Problem the Dark Knight is that it felt like let's make a Real movie not a comic book. It's too realistic. I want a comic book come to life. It too realistic and makes Batman goofy in his own movie. Chicago stunt show instead of being in Gotham. Begins is my favorite. Superman the movie is the greatest Movie of all time. The flight effect are the best of all time. Superman 2 doesn't work because not a great edit.
I think the dark knight was probably massive for the time it came out. But as someone who just watched it for the first time in 2022, I really didn't get the hype. It was a good movie but I don't even think it would be in my top 10 superhero movies. It was a 7/10 for me
Green Lantern actually had a pretty interesting history, when it first came out critics were really bashing it but a lot of people online were actually defending it, but then once comic book movies really took off after the first Avengers movie it kinda got buried in obscurity for a while, a few years later it got dug back up and now everyone sees it as an abomination, I think it’s a case of how once these movies started getting more popular the comic book fans started getting pickier and less forgiving than they originally were, in other words they became spoiled
The Flash is the best DCEU movie. I just don’t think there’s a lot of good DCEU movies. I like Wonder Woman, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and The Suicide Squad, but The Flash has the most emotion, ok action, but a story that is just incredibly good. Like a 9/10

The action and CGI was pretty bad, but that's not really important to me when watching a movie, unless it ruins the story and characters. Maybe it's also because my expectations were super low because of the box office. But yeah, I can understand why people dislike the movie.
Zack synders justice league is the best superhero movie ever, I think the execution was there the action was there and the cgi was outstanding in some sequences. And the overall film is just a love letter to the dc fans

Here's a hot take I forgot about earlier: Josstice League is WORSE than Batman & Robin. B&R at least had a consistent tone and vision; Josstice League was a Frankenstein's monster of two different tones that mesh as well as ice cream and pickles.
Ooo I have a hot take. The Dark Knight Rises is the perfect ending to the trilogy and is just as good as the other 2. Only thing that brings it down is the twist villain at the end. For a trilogy to just have one small thing wrong with it, that’s not bad
The Dark Knight is a great, but very flawed movie. For example bad/cheesy dialogue and the ending sucked. Bruce's motive as Batman was to inspire people and to be an incorruptible symbol, yet he takes the fall for Harvey's crimes. Kinda defeats his purpose letting people think he's now a murderer. Also, Superman 78 is fantastic. That's who Superman is and Christopher Reeves played Superman perfectly.

Anyway, it would of been Nolan has only actually made one great Batman movie and two companion pieces of varying quality and all 3 movies rode on the great performances of their villains
Michael Keaton in my Opinion is the better Batman then Christen Bale and Robert Pattison and Ben Affleck When i think of Batman in Live Action i think of Keaton hes everything i wanted to see in a Batman on The Big Screen He Nailed The Duality of Bruce Wayne and Batman He brought a real humanity to Bruce that is hardly ever seen in on-screen portrayals of the character. There was a real sadness in his eyes as he wandered around his giant, empty mansion that made Bruce a sympathetic figure you can tell hes so scared by the death of his parents and looks like a man who wants to dress up as a Bat. developed terrific on-screen chemistry with the actors playing his villains: Jack Nicholson as the Joker, Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, and Danny DeVito as the Penguin. Burtons Batman is considered a Myth a legend to the criminals of Gotham to scare them when he sneaks up on them. now The Flash Movie cements his status as the Definitive Live Action Batman
Dark Knight is very good but also overrated. Nowhere near flawless. Rachel sucks in both Nolan films. Zero chemistry with Bale which was a huge misfire by Nolan. Bales voice sucks as Batman (great Bruce). The action is underwhelming and was immediately surpassed by Snyder. Nolan trilogy is still great but nowhere near perfect, hence overrated
For anyone that knows me knows that the Man of Steel is my #1 favorite comic book character/superhero ever. And also that the 1978 _Superman_ film is my #1 favorite comic book/superhero movie ever. And yeah, it is dated for sure, but it's got a tremendous amount of heart and it's a fantastic classic, as well. And it's also one of the most important and influential comic book/superhero movies in the history of cinema. Although, I will say that I much prefer the Extended Cut (which is 151 minutes in length if I'm not mistaken) of it over the original theatrical cut. And even the late, great Richard Donner preferred that Extended Cut, too.
For me personally I would say I enjoy Flash s1 and s2 more than all the live action dc movies ever made so far. Thats including all the batman movies as well

Dark knight is in my top 50 films and I think it's overrated honestly. I find that beyond its speculation it has very little for batman to actually do, he feels shockingly uncompelling in his own film so much so that Joker has to steal the show with a lightning in a bottle performance.

Funny enough, I think most people agree that the dcau is WAY better than the dceu. It was put together more structurally and was more consistent in the quality with REALLY peak movies like Flashpoint, Constantine, dark apocalypse war, death/reign of superman, etc which is better than most of the live action dceu movies by a mile

The Dark Knight is really good. But I think it’s overrated too. The first 30 minutes has some of the worst pacing I’ve ever seen in a crime film, and the handful of set pieces in the second half makes it feel like it’s 3.5 hours long
The dc movies brighter than the mcu one is one I agree with mainly because it's a fresh start a.d we have no idea what to expect from james gun. Dc movies where as thought the mcu already did the giant thing of whipping put and restoring half the universe. What else can be bigger than that for the mcu.
The Dark Knight Rises didnt resonate with batman fans not because of the contrivances or the shortcuts it takes to reach the destination, Shortly it was a misguided script following after the death of harvey dent & how to finish that story of a lie saving Gotham city, instead it went with the mixture of actual comic book & realism route that didn't fit Nolan's batman world. It just wanted to wrap up the series rather than feel like progression of the batman story! Its no where a bad movie, just a "misguided" one. The technical stuffs like Cinematography, music were superior though than it's prequels. It's sad that it's such s divisive movie, even Sean isn't a big fan of the movie, always pointing out its flaws which he said didn't make it a top tier Nolan movie!

Nah, people don't even know the meaning of the word overrated anymore. No Way Home is what you call overrated, Dark Knight was written and acted very well and a great movie, best 2008 movie by far, but out of the Dark Knight trilogy, Batman Begins is the best.
I tiried watching the original superman movie but fell asleep at a certain point. Good movie though. That said with the exception of the donner cut of superman 2 and the upcoming James Gunn film m, I have no intention on watching the other films.
DCEU actually doesn't have a bad or messy continuity. Superman is the center and it grows organically narratively. Now tonally..... That's another story
I also think Dark Knight is just a wee overrated. For me it’s like a 9/10, still S tier for me. I just dont think it’s the best comic book movie or the best thing to come out of mankind like some act like it is.
Ok this is getting out of hand 😂 The first hot take made nearly made me turn into the Incredible Hulk! The Dark Knight is my favourite superhero film of all time, my favourite Batman film of all time and one of my favourite films of all time too. You could say half of the MCU is overrated? The Dark Knight is certainly not “B tier” either. The elephant in the room comparison cracked me up by the way! Putting nipples on the Bat-suit is just weird ok… I have mixed feelings about DC having a brighter future than the MCU. The MCU has certainly dropped in quality over the years and are showing no signs of slowing down their content. As it pains me to say this, I am no longer as invested in the MCU anymore as I was during the Infinity Saga. James Gunn’s DCU has a lot of potential to shine but if WB interferes again, it’s going to be over before they even get started… As someone who also liked The Flash, I do feel that the film is nowhere near as bad as seemingly everyone else is making it out to be! However the CGI is bad and looks rushed. But do I think it’s the worst CGI ever? No. This year has certainly been the year for terrible CGI in superhero films though…
In my opinion why should we care which side is making better movies? Shouldn’t we just hope for good movies from both and not turn it into a competition?

It's like if you want to write a story about a dog and his boy but only look at stories that talk about "a boy and his dog." You don't look at other sources to make it pop. Yes, read within your genre but also branch out.
For example, if I wanted to write a dog and his boy story, I could look to Old Yeller but then I could also look to, say, Two Kinds and showing how generational people look at raising animals.

Just rewatched the dark knight today and I think my favorite part of it is just how tight it is. Every piece of dialogue matters and every big moment feels set up perfectly when you watch it again. Add to that incredible performances and Batman and you get an amazing movie

I've always thought it'd be better if they cut out that entire unnecessary trip to Japan and trimmed the ending so it ends with Joker being captured, and leaving Two-Face for a part 3.

When the dark Knight came out, it was in a whole league of its own during a different time. But with so many other comic book movies today, now you can start comparing it to other comic book films. But personally the dark Knight still feels different from everything else that we gotten today. 🖤💙🖤
Speaking on the point that Superman is dated: I never found the age of a movie to be the critical factor on whether a movie is overrated or not. Like, to me Casablanca is just as relevant and great today as it was back in the day. Even when it comes to movies that require effects, take something like 2001: A Space Oddyssey, it's 55 years old, but I think it holds up perfectly, whereas when it comes to a movie such as Mission Impossible II, it's under 25 years old, but it's pretty dated
For example, toy story came out in 1995 and it holds pretty well while Raplh 2 was relased in 2018 but already feels dated

Nobody can deny the impact Superman had on comic book movies, but its quality diminishes as every year goes by, and that's not something that happens to every "old" movie. It's objective criticism, it's not just a problem I personally habw with it
Sean, I think you said it perfectly, the first 2 Superman movies are dated in terms of costumes and especially special effects but not overrated. They're classics that opened the door and let's see if many of these MCU movies are still being talked about when they hit 45 years. Also, Christopher Reeves is still the greatest casting that I've seen for a comic book character and every actor after him has always been in his shadow.

Batman Returns is the most underrated DC movie. A lot of people have forgotten this movie as time passed and I think it’s a shame because it is such a beautifully dark, gothic, melancholy film. I think it’s an incredible piece of superhero cinema and I wished it had a little more praise in general

In my opinion, the chronobowl makes sense to have the funky CGI, it's meant to give that uncanny and unnatural vibe like Barry is altering something he shouldn't. But Flash's suit in the battle against Zod just looks so weird to me, the suit should had been mainly practical since it's not a Spider-Man situation where you can't see his face. Also the floating above the ground look is something that came from Snyder where since he's going at such high speeds, there's no longer any friction so it just looks like he glides across the ground. Muschietti wanted to continue Snyder's vision of Flash's powers which makes sense but it can look a bit fake.
Snyder at least had the decency to make it look good.

Smallville doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. I believe that it’s popularity at the time was the reason for the Arrowverse being created, also the reason for Marvel to try working on television. I definitely think that, after the failure that was Batman & Robin, it had a helping hand in why superheroes are as big as they are on film and television today.

The thing about TDK is that when people talk about it the thing they always say is the highlight is Ledger's performance and rightly so because he elevates the movie from decent to really good, imo take Ledger's joker out and replace it with Leto's joker and the film would be seen as average.

I feel the movie wouldn't have got as overprasied if ledger never died. I feel his death and the rumors behind his death drove more people to see the movie that normally wouldn't have seen it. I heard from people many went to go see it that never saw batman begins or ever cared to see a batman movie or any superhero movie but went to see it after news of ledger death on the news and rumors the movie made him committ suicide. That people felt he deserved a oscar for killing himself making this movie for us. I dont know why he committed suicide but I heard back then there were rumors that he got so deep into character that it made him suicidal. I feel if he never died he wouldn't have won a award or even gotten nominated. When batman begins first came out it didn't get tons of praise at first but later did after tdk came out. I feel tdk would have gotten the same amount of praise as batman begins when it first came out if ledger never died.

I know that people have cried out in the past for a live- action adaptation of the Long Halloween, but between The Dark Knight, The Batman, and an animated adaptation in 2021 starring Jensen Ackles, we're already there.
Actually, with a few exceptions, I think the effects of the Donner movies hold up extremely well, especially considering that a lot of the technology they were pioneering was new and revolutionary at the time. They deserve credit for that.
I adore Batman. He's one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, but I find The Dark Knight overrated. Despite the smart directing and casting, the film just comes across as a film shouting out philosophies about justice and chaos rather than an intriguing piece of media. Also, I think it takes itself too seriously for a Batman film, which is ironic given the Joker's famous "Why so serious?" line. I think that Batman is inherently too odd to work in any film that strives for realism. The Dark Knight strips away all of the creativity of Batman in favor of a more bland feeling crime thriller. Also, the romance subplot really falls flat, imo. Bruce Wayne's big plan in the film is "Hey, Harvey Dent, can you be the symbol of hope instead of me? You can do all the hard work, while I try to talk your girlfriend into dumping you and getting together with me."

I understand Tim Burton's style isn't for everyone, even if I enjoy his style, but let's not pretend Nolan's style is for everyone. It's like everyone had a long speech in the TDK Trilogy.
I feel like when it comes to "creative inbreeding" you could only really see that in comic book movies when you could tell there was a lot and that a lot was coming out every year. I think this is because it is harder to make a type of movie not feel stale (whatever type of movie that is) whenever there are more of them out and more of them that are getting made because you eventually reach a point where since so many are coming out it is both more important and more difficult to feel fresh and harder to make them not feel stale. This is because if there are so many different entries in a genre then it is a lot harder to find a way to tell this entry in this genre feel distinct because we've already seen a bunch of different ways this story can be told so the question when making an entry in a genre "how do you make this entry in the genre feel distinct" because you know you need to so you can differentiate yourself from the other entries and have come out and/or are coming out. On a final note, I know this may seem weird but I feel like The Dark Knight a film that took inspiration from outside of its genre (eventually) made it more important to make comic book movies feel more distinct (and they are many ways of doing things but taking inspiration from outside the genre is differently an amazing one) because this film (and Iron Man which came out the same year) to some extent started the second comic book movie boom (the first was started by X-Men 2000 and Iron Man was part of the reason this happened because it made the MCU and in turn, DCEU to happen) because since it did so well critical and financially (being the first comic book movie to join the billion dollar club) and should just how well a comic book movie could do (again critically and financially) it made studios greenlight a bunch of more comic book movies because it did so well. I am not saying that's a bad thing but from my perspective, it adds a bit of irony to the legacy of The Dark Knight.

Leto's Joker in Suicide Squad was good and gets unnecessary hate, and I think that's because people didn't understand the reason for the character (probably because so much was cut out). In my view, he fits the modern era perfectly.
If we had a Joker from this generation, who was in his late 20s or early 30s, that's likely how he would look and behave.
That's the issue.
Joker does NOT fit in to society. No matter what generation, he sticks out like a sore thumb.

In my opinion about the dark knight is that it should have ended with with joker escaping in the police car. I stand by that. Everytime I watch the movie after that scene I lose interest in the movie and just wishing it was over. The entire third act in the building just feels like like plot armour just for them to use the sonar equipment more.

In my honest opinion,Gunn should have waited to announce his slate until after the four movies from Dc(Flash,Shazam 2,Aquaman 2,blue beetle)came out,see how they did and then announce it.

The dark knight unfortunately with no intent of Nolan’s benefited significantly from Legers death. Batman Begins was great but was under the radar of pop culture. Legers death brought eyes to the sequel and likely pushed it to be the highest grossing movie at the time. Unfortunately the next movie would be tied to the Aurora Colorado theater shooting.

The Dark Knight is an absolute masterpiece. I know some people have a problem with the ending but I love it. Also, I really liked The Flash. Is the CGI straight garbage at some points? Yes. But I thought it was a good movie and the ending hit me in the emotional feels. The Flash is a great example of people jumping on the bandwagon of hating something without even giving it a shot which of course hurt it in the box office.

@@manvirshergill1739 It has a brilliant plot, great performances from Ledger and Eckhart, it does a fantastic job of building tension, It has a fleshed out world, It’s deep, the music is great, it’s got a fantastic and unique ending (for a comic book movie), etc. The movie just feels so different from any other comic book movie. Sure, it’s not one of the greatest movies of all time. It definitely has it’s flaws. But it’s pros outweigh its cons by a lot.
I have no nostalgia at all for Superman: the movie, but I think the special effects are excellent and better than a lot of super hero movie effects and the story is brilliant with the people from Godfather at the helm. I don’t get people that say this movie is dated as hell, it looks better than Thor 4, Doctor Strange 2, The Flash, the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, etc.
That said, Superman II is one I can agree that feels dated, the villains felt very cheesy.
I don’t believe in superhero or comic book being a genre. Movies based on comic books can be anything.

My Problem the Dark Knight is that it felt like let's make a Real movie not a comic book. It's too realistic. I want a comic book come to life. It too realistic and makes Batman goofy in his own movie. Chicago stunt show instead of being in Gotham. Begins is my favorite. Superman the movie is the greatest Movie of all time. The flight effect are the best of all time. Superman 2 doesn't work because not a great edit.

Green Lantern actually had a pretty interesting history, when it first came out critics were really bashing it but a lot of people online were actually defending it, but then once comic book movies really took off after the first Avengers movie it kinda got buried in obscurity for a while, a few years later it got dug back up and now everyone sees it as an abomination, I think it’s a case of how once these movies started getting more popular the comic book fans started getting pickier and less forgiving than they originally were, in other words they became spoiled

The action and CGI was pretty bad, but that's not really important to me when watching a movie, unless it ruins the story and characters. Zack synders justice league is the best superhero movie ever, I think the execution was there the action was there and the cgi was outstanding in some sequences. And the overall film is just a love letter to the dc fans

The Dark Knight is a great, but very flawed movie. For example bad/cheesy dialogue and the ending sucked. Bruce's motive as Batman was to inspire people and to be an incorruptible symbol, yet he takes the fall for Harvey's crimes. Kinda defeats his purpose letting people think he's now a murderer.
Also, Superman 78 is fantastic. That's who Superman is and Christopher Reeves played Superman perfectly.

Michael Keaton in my Opinion is the better Batman then Christen Bale and Robert Pattison and Ben Affleck When i think of Batman in Live Action i think of Keaton hes everything i wanted to see in a Batman on The Big Screen He Nailed The Duality of Bruce Wayne and Batman He brought a real humanity to Bruce that is hardly ever seen in on-screen portrayals of the character. There was a real sadness in his eyes as he wandered around his giant, empty mansion that made Bruce a sympathetic figure you can tell hes so scared by the death of his parents and looks like a man who wants to dress up as a Bat. developed terrific on-screen chemistry with the actors playing his villains: Jack Nicholson as the Joker, Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, and Danny DeVito as the Penguin. Burtons Batman is considered a Myth a legend to the criminals of Gotham to scare them when he sneaks up on them. now The Flash Movie cements his status as the Definitive Live Action Batman

Dark Knight is very good but also overrated. Nowhere near flawless.

For anyone that knows me knows that the Man of Steel is my #1 favorite comic book character/superhero ever. And also that the 1978 _Superman_ film is my #1 favorite comic book/superhero movie ever. And yeah, it is dated for sure, but it's got a tremendous amount of heart and it's a fantastic classic, as well. And it's also one of the most important and influential comic book/superhero movies in the history of cinema. Although, I will say that I much prefer the Extended Cut (which is 151 minutes in length if I'm not mistaken) of it over the original theatrical cut. And even the late, great Richard Donner preferred that Extended Cut, too.

For me personally I would say I enjoy Flash s1 and s2 more than all the live action dc movies ever made so far. Thats including all the batman movies as well

Dark knight is in my top 50 films and I think it's overrated honestly. I find that beyond its speculation it has very little for batman to actually do, he feels shockingly uncompelling in his own film so much so that Joker has to steal the show with a lightning in a bottle performance.
I feel like too many people want Superman to be like Superman from the first Superman movies and not letting Superman doing his own thing.
It’s kinda the same thing with Batman, people seem to just lock these 2 characters in a very small box and say they can only be portrayed in 1 way and 1 way only
Suicide Squad is a great movie! Okay, not “great” technically, but great in my opinion. It’s too fun to not be considered great!

No it's not, they have one conversation and they don't have conflict for the rest of the film till the very end by circumstances, the movie is stupid long for it's plot and it's nothing but Pacino acting weird in places randomly

Funny enough, I think most people agree that the dcau is WAY better than the dceu. It was put together more structurally and was more consistent in the quality with REALLY peak movies like Flashpoint, Constantine, dark apocalypse war, death/reign of superman, etc which is better than most of the live action dceu movies by a mile
Greatest thing about the Dark Knight to me is...Remove Batman, remove Joker and remove all the Batman lore...Its still a really great movie.

The Dark Knight is really good. But I think it’s overrated too. The first 30 minutes has some of the worst pacing I’ve ever seen in a crime film, and the handful of set pieces in the second half makes it feel like it’s 3.5 hours long
Man of Steel is better than the Nolan trilogy and Raimi trilogy. All of these movies are still among my favs tho

The dc movies brighter than the mcu one is one I agree with mainly because it's a fresh start a.d we have no idea what to expect from james gun. Dc movies where as thought the mcu already did the giant thing of whipping put and restoring half the universe. What else can be bigger than that for the mcu.

The Dark Knight Rises didnt resonate with batman fans not because of the contrivances or the shortcuts it takes to reach the destination,
Shortly it was a misguided script following after the death of harvey dent & how to finish that story of a lie saving Gotham city, instead it went with the mixture of actual comic book & realism route that didn't fit Nolan's batman world.
It just wanted to wrap up the series rather than feel like progression of the batman story!
Its no where a bad movie, just a "misguided" one.
The technical stuffs like Cinematography, music were superior though than it's prequels.
It's sad that it's such s divisive movie, even Sean isn't a big fan of the movie, always pointing out its flaws which he said didn't make it a top tier Nolan movie!

Nah, people don't even know the meaning of the word overrated anymore. No Way Home is what you call overrated, Dark Knight was written and acted very well and a great movie, best 2008 movie by far, but out of the Dark Knight trilogy, Batman Begins is the best.

I tiried watching the original superman movie but fell asleep at a certain point. Good movie though.
That said with the exception of the donner cut of superman 2 and the upcoming James Gunn film m, I have no intention on watching the other films.
DCEU actually doesn't have a bad or messy continuity. Superman is the center and it grows organically narratively. Now tonally..... That's another story
The DCAMU is split right down the middle. The films are either really good or offensively bad and there’s no in between.
I also think Dark Knight is just a wee overrated. For me it’s like a 9/10, still S tier for me. I just dont think it’s the best comic book movie or the best thing to come out of mankind like some act like it is.

I have mixed feelings about DC having a brighter future than the MCU.
The MCU has certainly dropped in quality over the years and are showing no signs of slowing down their content.
As it pains me to say this, I am no longer as invested in the MCU anymore as I was during the Infinity Saga.
James Gunn’s DCU has a lot of potential to shine but if WB interferes again, it’s going to be over before they even get started…
As someone who also liked The Flash, I do feel that the film is nowhere near as bad as seemingly everyone else is making it out to be!
However the CGI is bad and looks rushed.
But do I think it’s the worst CGI ever? No.
This year has certainly been the year for terrible CGI in superhero films though…
WB will only interfere if Gunn screws up. Snyder would’ve been left alone if he hadn’t made bad movies

@@christianogden2825exactly, Man of Steel was good, but BVS is an objectively bad film. It is poorly paced, the character motivations are terrible, and the villains are forgettable and sickeningly undercooked.
