If i remember correctly the ut-at was designed as a specialist bridge crosser, thats why it has the bridge laying equipment. The issue was that while the walkers were indeed all terrain they were heavy with thumping foot falls that disablized some natural and constructed bridges so they needed a way to make their own or reinforce what was there.

The original were made on a more limited budget and had minimal cgi. The prequels had larger budgets and cgi letting them differentiate the ships more because they didnt have to share model parts.

When I was young, the AT-TE was way cooler to me than the AT-AT for no other reason than its number of legs. You can imagine my excitement when I found out about the AT-OT.
Dude, have you seen the concept art for some FO walkers ? One had a sleek cockpit and body with slender blade like legs and mind was like "holy shit !" Those things would literally kill the enemy just by seeing it. Other fans that had a more realistic grasp on reality said it's main body couldn't be supported by the skinny legs but other just told the dude about repuslor engines and how if the FO engineers the legs and lower main body with some, they'll be fine and crawling across the battlefield in no time. Jesus, those things looked terrifying 😥
I really like the AT-AP, I remember having the toy of it back in the day and not realizing what the 3rd leg was for. now looking at it I realize the walker ran around on its main two legs to quickly get to an optimal firing position and then deployed the 3rd leg as a tripod for firing stability on its huge cannon it had more mobility than the larger AT-TE but still had its heavy firepower. I imagine it constantly moving on the battlefield, scouting positions and taking out key targets with its over sized cannon, moving on before the enemy could pin down its sniping position
Some years ago some scientists from NASA, or something, were asked to analize all Star Wars vehicles. They determined that the single best designed vehicle is the Sandcrawler. I can't remember which ship they liked most, but they noticed that wings on ships are stupid and pointless, because some have very elaborate wing designs and others have none. So if there's an option to have none and the performance doesn't depend on it, one should choose a ship with few of them. And they also made note of the fact that asymmetric ships (especially those where the cabin is in any way off-set are likely very hard to pilot. This was all around the time the prequels were still new, so I can't provide a link.
I'd really like to see your take on the top animals in the Star Wars universe that were domesticated for use by other species. The Gungans used Rantos, Empire riding Dewbacks, Tuskens and their Banthas, Rebel Alliance riding Taun Tauns, etc.
The AT-AT still makes no damn sense to me. So the Empire decided to strike fear into the hearts of the Rebel Alliance by evoking the nightmarish image of......a camel with arthritis?
If walkers were the Empire's main war machines over tanks I don't understand why they didn't at least make different variants for different purposes. For instance the standard AT-AT and AT-ST would be best on urban worlds maintaining order. In combat roles, make AT-AT variants with anti aircraft turrets, and ones equipped with shield generators to protect other walkers, vehicles, and infantry. AT-ST variants could have Gatling guns and missle launchers and even adapt the shielding tech from the AT-XT.
I see you found fractalsponge's All Terrain Shock Enforcer. As cool as it is, there's another one he designed that he calls the All Terrain Seige Platform, and if you thought the Death Star was overcompensation, you ain't seen this baby.

I've always loved the AT-AP. It looks so over-burdened but still works. It's the quintessential "How Much Gun Can I Stick On This Thing?" vehicle of Star Wars.
When I was a kid i had a toy mtv-7. It came out with the Toys for Empire Strikes Bacl. The legs for the big rollers went up and down. It was a cool toy.
MTV 7 was never seen in the original movies but was brought out as a toy. Similar to what happened with the Imperial troop transport, that many years later featured in Star Wars Rebels.
The thing about the train, you can carry twice as much in half the length. Now granted you have to engineer some damn good supports to connect the halves, but still.
I'm not sure the All Terrain Shock Enforcer is actually canon to any extent, not even within Legends. Every reference I've found to it has been to various fan fiction and roleplaying communities. One source I found says it was from a novel, one which was published on a Star Wars fan fiction community and it looks like other communities adopted its design. Not canon, but still cool. It's also way too practical to fit with the Tarkin Doctrine, anyways.
I always liked the spider looking MT-AT (Multiple Terrain Assault Transport) from Legends. Essentially it was the body of an AT-AT walker with 4 some versions 8 daddy long legs like legs used 2 travel over difficult terrain like mountains, walking up the mountain while laying down heavy fire on it peak was no problem. And the AT-XT (All Terrain Experimental Transport) as seen The clone wars game. It was quite impressive with fast walking speed, twin medium blaster cannons, twin plasma motor cannons, and experimental energy Shield for protection in head-on charges on separatist forts.
The UT-AT, AT-AP, Trident-Class Assault Ship, AT-SE, and AC-MF were useful in there intended roles and functions But my favorite is definitely the AT,SE sine it seems a smarter design than the AT-AT with a swivel gun to cover its blind spots better
That one two legged AT-AT walker variant looks like Legends content, and more specifically a unit from a mod for Empire at War FOC. It was like a powerful glass cannon Strong against everything but weak armor plating meant it died very quick, almost as quick as it killed enemy armor Yoden Mod I think it was? It’s a walker for the Empire
The AT-SE really needs some more attention. It looks awesome even though it is obvious to see that those legs aren't very stable Edit: wrote this before I finished the video, awesome to see you share my opinion :)
With amphibious/beach assaults, wouldn't speeders be better? They can just keep going up beyond the beach - fast, then deploy outside of enemy killzones. And they can probe for unguarded avenues to attack if shore defenses are too intense at the designated point. They allow flanking manoeuvres and tactical flexibility. Imagine how useful they would be in a D-Day style situation, the defenders wouldn't be able to predict where they would hit and they could break out easier than a tank.
In star wars repulsor lift had many problem with heavy vehicle. If someone try to make it ,he has to reduce the amour of vehicle of make the repulsor lift big enough that which both has it own big problem. heavy tank and heavy transport will not move fast like their counter thus make it a big target.
That ""Toy"" you snuck in at the end would be a fun thing to do as a subject especially if you can find any places the Unique Kenner Vehicles have been snuck into some place like some art of a Game mod. Ta.
Personally, I think the AT-SE looked like it had it's tail ripped off. And given the way some of these walkers had their bodies far too forward in their designs, adding a tail would have help counter-balance the center of gravity to provide stability.
Troops, it was made to carry troops. And it was quite effective even in war if used right. He forgot to mention that. That's why I think the AT-OT is such a godly walker.
The MTV 7 used to be a star wars toy too..a mini rig from around 1981 when empire strikes back came out.. lowered down so cockpit part was on ground and rollers splayed out. Cool vehicle 😉
I'm highly disappointed that some of these designs never had a carry over of any kind. Case in point, almost all the walkers really needed a top mount 360 degree armored gunner position to be able to cover the rear, sides, and act as an AA position as well.
My favorite on this list is the AT-SE. Barely beating the UT-AT "Trident". My favorite ground assault vehicle in Star Wars is the All Terrain - Siege Platform designed by Fractalsponge.

Yeah, the AT-SE is pretty cool. In fact, for most assaults that the Empire used the AT-AT for, I'd use the AT-SE instead. Lighter, easier to build, less costly to lose, a turret on the top that can effectively cover its flanks and rear with an unfortunate dead zone, terrifying to look at, even more so than the AT-AT... I'd take this thing over the monstrous dog-like walker that's probably larger than the GDI's Mammoth Mark II battlewalker any day. Still, its legs are quite thin so if you can get a strong enough explosive pack on said leg it's still going down and fast. In contrast the Mark II's legs are quite thick and can sustain much heavier impacts and yet keep walking on.

Still, its legs are quite thin so if you can get a strong enough explosive pack on said leg it's still going down and fast. In contrast the Mark II's legs are quite thick and can sustain much heavier impacts and yet keep walking on.
Hell yeah dude! No content goes to waste here on generation tech 🤘🏽😝🤘🏽
The All Terrain Shock Enforcer is like the Metal Gear Rex of Star Wars.
Can you do a video on the strangest space ships in Star Wars?
I don’t know if you noticed the acklay class and the quarrian rebellion crab cannon have sort of a similar principle for moving underwater
Therapist: The Millipede Tank doesn't exist Mr. Clone. It can't hurt you!
Umbaran Engineer's:
Yankee bust in: It appeared Homee! Then I fxxxed it by calling the A10 to turn it into scrap metal!
Clonetrooper: Thanks! U make my day better!
“Yes it doesn’t exist (slides improved design back into folder), you will never see it again.” The clone goes home and later that night he wakes up to find a millipede scout tank in his house, and the last thing he hears is
, “this is the improved version of your nightmares.” After it is all over it transforms into pennywise and says, “Delicious fear! I love it!”
I like the steamroller because no matter how good your enemies are you can still steamroll them!
Great video! Also, didn't the Tie Crawlers have the advantage of having self-destruct mechanisms which made them useful as roving mines?
