Asymmetric wing flapping has been know to throw off TH-cam's advertiser friendly content screening algorithm. Much like a Y-Wing's trench run on the Death Star.
The Y Wing makes sense when you think through what Lucas’s influences for the Space Battles was. WW2 Battles and dog fights. While the trench run is lifted almost entirely from the classic movies (and actual RAF bombing group) the Dam Busters, the Y Wings in particular the Y Wings in Episode IV seem to borrow more from the Pacific War. In particular the Devastator and the role it played in the Battle of Midway.
They weren't really bombers anymore, they were heavy fighters as proton torpedoes were outlawed by the new republic. With the X-wings they used being made before the ban and kept a secret afterwards.
dude i was complaining about that in TFA, like why are they sending a bunch of xwings to do a Ywings job at starkiller? those xwings shoulda been flying escort
Well, the bombing run accomplished the mission, but lost every Star Fortress. I was annoyed at the apologists that tried to explain why Y-Wings weren’t used instead.
@Dread StarZ but you figure most of those bombers didn't even make it to the objective and the Y-Wing can actually target things like weapons and launch bays so it doesn't have to destroy the whole thing to cripple it. Feel like it could have done more with less and less people would have died flying fragile bombs over a giant space craft carrier.
@@ericp1139 It was. Republic demilitarization (what I remind was state before prequels) banned photon torpedoes making new Y-Wing useless (repurchased as escort fighter, which it initially was) and old variants were already old during OT. Legal StarFortress was meant to be bad design using shitty photon bombs, in order to make clear scale of Republic weakness. In their respective contexts, the A-10 is tougher and much more heavily armed. The Y-Wing is designed to get in quick, hit hard, and then move before anyone can shoot back. The A-10 is designed to loiter for a while, raining death from above until it runs out of fuel. They're very different vehicles designed for different purposes. The Y-Wing is analogous to a torpedo bomber, the A-10 is a ground attacker/CAS plane.
Devolution of Y Wing. The Old Republic Y Wing is a formidable ship capable of doing bombing runs and strafing while able to taking heavy damage like the real life A-10. Rebel/Early New Republic Y Wing is the same ship without armour plating born out of necessity due to budget cuts, ease of maintenance, better maneuverability and speed buff, while Resistance Y Wing is questionable.
I am overjoyed to see my favorite ship finally receive it's moment of glory! I always saw the Y-Wing as the Star Wars Galaxy's analogue to the Ilyushin Il-2M-3 Shturmovik, compared to the X-Wing as the P-51D Mustang and the TIE/ln as the Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero.
The B-52 has been in service in the USAF since 1955. It's a 65 year old design. The A-10 is 43 years old. If it's a reliable design that can be easily modified and upgraded like the B-52. Or even kept nearly exactly the same like the A-10. All that matters in that case is that it is an effective design for a role that can't be better filled by some other fighter, fighter bomber, attacker, or bomber. That said, a 51 year old y wing is perfectly reasonable.
Ryuondo yes as long as it has the capability to add improvements to an already existing craft there’s no need to get rid of it. Even in war you gotta find ways to save money. And upgrading an already existing craft is cheaper then making a new one from the ground up
@Ryuondo That's all true, but the B-52 is a strategic bomber and the A-10 is a CAS plane, both roles that don't require as rapid improvement as other roles. In the last 50 years, the USAF has gone through 3 generations of fighters, with the F-4 Phantom, then the F-15 Eagle and F-16 Falcon, then the F-22 Raptor. Even if the Y-Wing is still suited to its role as a torpedo bomber, there's no reason the Resistance should still be flying 40-year old X-Wing designs and 30-year old A-wings.

Was nice to see the new Y-wing in Rise of Skywalker. The bombers from The Last Jedi were a joke. As someone who grew up with the original films when they came out, the Y-Wing was a favorite of us kids, plus, it was a nod to the fans to see the B-wings used in Rise of Skywalker too since they got almost no screen time in ROTJ.
The Y-Wing is my starfighter 😏🧡 Love that it has been a workhorse of the alliance, and is capable of taking on several tasks. Mainly function as a fighter-bomber.
Hi Allen! Loved the vid! 2 questions for you: The First Order took back to back cataclysmic losses fighting the Resistance: The destruction of Starkiller Base and then Admiral Holdos Kamikaze attack against the Supremacy and her escort. How was the First Order able to Blitz multiple Star Systems after Starkiller? They literally lost a planet! How hurt is the First Order after Krayt? Do you think the conquered systems will resist and throw off the First Orders rule? Is this all explained in some EU that I just haven’t watched yet?
Love the Y-Wing! About the only complaint I had about ch6 of the Mandalorian was that I had so hoped the Republic star fighters at the end were Y Wings. How cool would that have been?
The movie guide for Rise of Skywalker mentioned a new model was built using Rebellion specs for planetary defense forces , but under gunned due to NR restrictions
8:10 The empire stored Y wings in lightly defended facilities. More and more I can see that the Empire engineered its own downfall in almost every aspect of military planning.
My favorite ship to fly in the 2005 battlefront...nothing like running up the prow of a star destroyer, under flak and turbo laser fire, with your rear gunner lighting up the ties trying to shoot you down before you get within strike range, and before you know it you’re zooming across the star destroyers hull dropping thousands of Megajules worth of proton bombs on em, sweeping past the bridge, and looping past the engines...ahh the memories.
6:23 Can we just stop to take a second to acknowledge that this y-wing was "going down" and crashes on the malevolence...in space, where gravity isn't a factor for where a damaged ship would end up.
The Republic Y-Wing Looks Like A Maximum Level Y-Wing, While The Resistance Y-Wing Looks A Weaker Version Of The Rebel Y-Wing ( Just How I'm Seeing All 3 Y-Wings Together )
Ships literally stay in production despite being 1000s of years old like the hammerhead cruiser. It's insane to think the Y-wing is outdated by the sequel trilogy, its basically brand new compared to how slow tech advances in star wars.
The Y-Wing is probably my favourite Star Wars Fighter. I have the newest Alliance Y-Wing and the Republic Y-Wing as Lego sets and I will get the Resistance Y-Wing as a Lego set too. I remember it being my favourite ship to fly in the X-Wing Video game in the 90's too.

Very late to the party, but what a great video essay that was! Seems to me that the Resistance bombers did their job at D'Qar, taking out the sole "fleet killer' Dreadnought that could have taken out the heavily-shielded Raddus. And despite Leia's damning assessment, their losses weren't *that* much worse than Gold Squadron at Yavin, with only a single survivor, for a similarly existential engagement (although they do do better at Scarrif, losing only 2 or 3). The one-punch kill a single Star Fortress dealt to the Fulminatrix was way in excess of what several Y-Wings or even B-Wings could have achieved, and the total loss of the squadron was the result of a very unlucky bomb-bay collision with TIE Fighter debris on a bomber that had just armed its munitions - prior to that only one bomber had been downed. Resistance Y-Wings as more manouverable long-range multi-role craft may well have been stationed elsewhere on other duties. Regardless of all the hand-wringing it's very unlikely this one base and fleet group was the complete entirety of the Resistance, as evidenced by Snap and others showing up in RotS when they were absent in TLJ.
Security manager: We can fill out our force with a slower bomber aircraft that sucks at dogfighting. Security pilot: Why would we need to bomb something? Most modern ships have proton torpedoes now. Manager: ..... Pilot: we can literally buy 5 TIE interceptors and attach light shields to them for less than a single Ywing. They would be faster AND more maneuverable with the same firepower as an Xwing. Manager: they look to much like Imperial ships. Pilot: Is that your only objection?
The Y-wing kind of reminds me of the A-26 from WWII; a fairly large aircraft that handles almost like a fighter, deceptively fast for its size, and carries a substantial payload...but really has no business getting into dogfights.

They shoulda ALREADY had them by now. Hell if even a tenth of the fleet that crushed the Imp Remanant at Jakku was around still... the FO wouldn't have lasted very long, being heavily outgunned and outnumbered too. Mega SD/paperfootball from Hell or not
3:11 is a robot trying to learn the YMCA.
Android Allen confirmed.
porgs are actually CG heads put on top of the body of very real puffins that were roaming throughout the shot. They tried editing the birds out completely, but it made the place look barren and lifeless. Plus, CG heads were cheaper.
Dammit. I really wanna eat a porg now.
I prefer nerf.
Yeah.. Porg dogs... an Ewok burgers
Porg nuggets porg fingers and porg fried steak
Isaiah Amos reeeeeeeee I Wannt a porg now X45 I Agree With You
That topic on Porg Bacon got me dying laughing. Definitely always come here to feel a bit better. Love your humor.
Is Allan being held at gun?
I am so happy you guys made this long awaited video!!! Y WINGS BEEN MY FAVORITE SINCE I SAW THEM IN NEW HOPE WHEN I WAS LITTLE!
All this BTL talk has made me hungry for BLT.
It cause he never said BTL lol he always called it BLT
BLT-B. The infamous Bacon-Lettuce-Tomato Bomber 🚀
Best get yourself some Porg, then.
That´s cause he constantly said BLT mate XD (don´t worry, I know he was just mispronouncing it by accident and that he knows that its BTL)
@@martinilp2513 I think it's in large part thanks to him rushing to get his words out and so he trips up on them often. You can hear it a lot when he speaks. Certain words just sounds like mashed letters.
Great description of one of my favorite starships; a real work horse. Doesnt need to be fast or flashy, just needs to smash crap

The Y-Wing is my starfighter 😏🧡
Love that it has been a workhorse of the alliance, and is capable of taking on several tasks.
Mainly function as a fighter-bomber.
Great work GenTech, the Y-wing is my favorite Alliance starfighter.
Hi Allen! Loved the vid! 2 questions for you:
The First Order took back to back cataclysmic losses fighting the Resistance: The destruction of Starkiller Base and then Admiral Holdos Kamikaze attack against the Supremacy and her escort.
3 Koensayr Y-Wings
1: Republic BTL-B Y-Wing
2: Rebel Alliance BTL-A4 Y-Wing
3: Resistance BTL-NR2 Y-Wing
+BTL-S3
Now what would a BTL- Y wing look like if Naboo had a long range patrol version for sector defense?
The magic of the Y-wing is to find that sweet spot of part removal where performance peaks into your mission profile.
The IMC and the Militia (Titanfall) vs the Terran Republic, New Conglomerate, and Vanu Sovereignty (Planetside 2).
The y wing heavy bomber could use those in the us Air Force but that’s why we have the b-2 stealth bomber
6:23 Can we just stop to take a second to acknowledge that this y-wing was "going down" and crashes on the malevolence...in space, where gravity isn't a factor for where a damaged ship would end up.
I’m gonna sound like a nerd but whatever
Some ships have artificial gravity projectors. for what? No clue

Y-Wing, the A10 of the star wars verse.
No the K-wing is the A10, the Y wing is more like Mitchell B-25 or a de havilland mosquito
Y-Wing is more like the Ilyushin Il-2 or Douglas Dauntless dive bombers of Star Wars.
You may be onto something with the II-2
@@rnukes The Il-2 is an excellent ground attack aircraft of its time
Yes but the Y-wing was also a good recon craft and could really ruin the day of most shipping
X-wings get all the credit but Y-wings are goated
The Republic Y-Wing Looks Like A Maximum Level Y-Wing, While The Resistance Y-Wing Looks A Weaker Version Of The Rebel Y-Wing ( Just How I'm Seeing All 3 Y-Wings Together )
Ships literally stay in production despite being 1000s of years old like the hammerhead cruiser. It's insane to think the Y-wing is outdated by the sequel trilogy, its basically brand new compared to how slow tech advances in star wars.
5:33 The engine in this illustration is too large by about 200%.
A Y-wing's engine nacelle is 1.45m in diameter and 9.35 from end to end.
Allan, you kind of talk and sound like the guy who does the YongYea You Tube channel.
That first minute, movie critique disguised as engineering evaluation of the Y-Wing was savage!
Why is he shaking his arms around throughout the video😂😂
Semaphore ?
It's due to him being one of the people (I am aswell) that speaks with our hands, it helps Express what we are thinking or doing with the body language.
@@AuburnHuntress I get talking with your hands to emphasize what your saying and stuff but at times he flaps his arms out. lol I feel like I'm missing something too

This is the perfect companion video for me while I build my Lego Y Wing
Yes
Anyone who ever played X-wing will never associate speed with a Y-wing...
I love y-wings, they're so unique

hmm ewok steak
Question for anyone that may have the answer to my question but was the Y-Wing modeled/designed with inspiration from Star Trek’s main ship, the enterprise as the two engine cylinders look a lot like the enterprise’s as well as the whole Y design is the same as the enterprise
Reading “breastesses bacon” at the same time as hearing “mm-mmm, just like momma used to make,” was a little... disconcerting.
I thought that "darkside bacon" sounds more disturbing...
Porg Bellies 🍖🍗😋
Next video, can you to talk about the evolution from Z-95 headhunters to the T85 X-wings?
The Y-Wing is the AK-47 of starfighters. Over half a century old and still does it better and more reliably than anything else.
We don't deserve you, Allen, and your precision puns... but, you're the hero we need. Careful with that T-pose.

What logo?
Bruno Henrique Sequinel idk
Would't that just be Jedi?

Y-wing, my favorite ship in Star Wars since 1977.
The Y wing I think is the most iconic ship ever in Star Wars
No mom
corban Starkey wut?
Nah, the TIE or X-wing are a bit more recognizable.
Slender Man 186 nope y win is in all three eras
kyle Dove you could also argue the same for the X-Wing with the Z-95 headhunter and the ARC-170, same goes for the TIE with the ETA-2 and V-Wing.
My favorite fighter in the classic Star Wars among the good side. That ship needs more love.
The Forerunners vs the Imperium of Man Pre-Horus Heresy.
(Halo vs Warhammer 40k).
Both at their prime.
Imperuim of man easy
The Forerunners were at an entirely different tier of power from Humanity in 40k. They would be more on par with the Necrons honestly, with the level of power they were at they were able to bend the laws of reality. I think the Necrons would still be more powerful, but the Forerunners are more adaptable and might be able to create countermeasures to eventually defeat them.
@@talandar5773 Nah, considering they lost to an infestation species that are FAR LESS dangerous than the Tyranids, which the Imperium has to deal with.

And how?
Can't wait to see the Resistance Y-Wing in action.
5:38, that's a pic from a game that I was playing today. When I recognised it I was sooooooo shocked 😂😂
Ahhh a man as swift with hand movement as my big daddy maul when he stabbed qui gon

Last time I was this early order 66 had just been enacted
at 8:24 the rebel ships were jumping into hyperspace and the imperial Star Destroyers come in like NOPE!!!! >:)
The level of complexity in this is fascinating
My boy looks like he was trying to direct traffic while making this video.
The Y-wing kind of reminds me of the A-26 from WWII; a fairly large aircraft that handles almost like a fighter, deceptively fast for its size, and carries a substantial payload...but really has no business getting into dogfights.
And my son said investing into Koensayr Manufacturing would be a waste of credits.
Always listen to your own gut
Best episode yet. Tell it like it is brother!
The resistance had to sell Porg bacon to buy ships
