    But when the old indiana jones Sets releases there were only a few resellers and lego investors.. Now it looks like the whole world is investing in lego... So i think that means that the new sets that release can never do that well like the old sets!?! Whats your thought about that? (Sorry my english is not very good)

    • @BrickBucks
      @BrickBucks  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the demand for LEGO sets has increased massively at the same time as the supply increasing. In 2009, LEGO Group had 1.9 billion in sales. In 2021, they had 7.4 Billion. So sales of LEGO sets have multiplied almost x4 during the same time, which means many more people will be looking for retired sets

    The New Sets will Double or Triple in Price once they are Out of Stock. Especially the collectors edition. Thats iconic too. Im calling 5x in 3 years. Only Problem is liquidity. You cant easily sell it. It Takes time. So rivendell is Probably better

    Yesterday I bought Lego Indiana Jones the Temple of the Golden Idol, the biggest Indiana Jones set so far, with a 20 % discount on a French Online Store, I paid 120 euros, and I have just listed on ebay France, where I am from, for 999 euros. It can perfectly reach that price in 10 - 12 years, because it is the same price % increase that the previous biggest Indiana Jones set reached (The Temple of Doom).

    I was able to get the motorcycle chase for 80 last summer and sold it for 125. Probably should've held on to that one. I also got the fighter plane chase for 175. Interested that one wasn't higher, keeping that one though as its a personal favorite I would say.

    I don't think this is the way annual ROI should be calculated eg. (10:50), instead of dividing the ROI with the number of the years (14) you should put it under the nth (14th) root. Thus 9.64^(1/14) = 1.1756. o instead of a 71% ROI you get 17,6% ROI. The point of annual ROI is that it shows if you reinvested your ROI every year how it would yield for you.

    • @BrickBucks
      @BrickBucks  ปีที่แล้ว

      If investing in an asset that compounds annually then yes I'd agree, but if investing in something that you're holding for 14 years, then there is no turnover and no compounding of the returns each year, so it doesn't make sense to calculate the average return with compounding included

    The annual return on Temple of the Crystal Skull is 11.5% not 17%. 219% over 13.1 years isn't 219/13.1 - if you invest 100 and gain 20%... you get 120. If you gain another 20% you have 144, not 140. Here is the formula to use for future episodes! :D
    (1 + r)^(1/n) - 1
    where:
    r = rate of return over multiple years
    n = number of years over which the return is earned

    • @BrickBucks
      @BrickBucks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Compounding only happens during turnover (selling the sets and reinvesting) , and we're assuming a hold time of 13 years here with no reinvesting profits. So there's no compounding in my calculations and it's just a basic average

    • @nathanthomas1742
      @nathanthomas1742 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrickBucks You are 'reinvesting' by holding the item that has the new elevated value. It's the same principle. I'm a software engineer - just trying to help haha. Imagine I held something for 3 years. Original price was 10 dollars. It has annual ROI of 10%.
      1 year: $11
      2 year $12.10
      3 year $13.31
      So this is an increase of This is a 33% increase over 3 years. You would say that the annual increase is 13.31/100 = 13.3%/But yet it has increased 10% annually. Would you say the annual ROI is 13.3% or 10%.
      The idea of calculating the ROI is so I can say "if I had have invested in this 3 years ago, I would have made 10% per year" so the 10% is the relevant figure.

    • @BrickBucks
      @BrickBucks  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nathanthomas1742 again here in your example you are assuming that the profit is being reinvested each year (compounding). This wouldn't be happening if we are holding a LEGO set. Only if we sold the set and then reinvested the cash would that happen

    • @nathanthomas1742
      @nathanthomas1742 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrickBucks Let's say the S&P 500 has an annual ROI of 9% over the last 20 years. Does this mean to you that if you stay invested you would get 9% x 20 = 180% return over 20 years? Or is this not the sort of annual ROI you mean?

    • @BrickBucks
      @BrickBucks  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nathanthomas1742 no it doesn't - investment in the S&P would compound because you're buying pieces of companies that are compounding, and the index you're buying is constantly making buys and sales, so your appreciation and dividends are constantly being reinvested. The difference is that stocks are productive assets - they produce cash flow and compounding. LEGO sets are non-productive assets, like gold. They don't compound unless you sell them and reinvest the profit into more inventory
